"There were spies, informers and degenerates of every kind and we were here to do business." These were the words an IRA activist describing his desperate, shadowy quest to source weapons for the IRA in Europe. But who were these people who traded weapons and information to support the IRA campaign in Ireland. In this episode of Brothers in Pain: The IRA in a Revolutionary World, Dr. Brian Hanley goes beyond the battlefields to uncover the hidden networks of the Irish Revolution. From the dangerous underworld of the continent to clandestine shipments across the Atlantic, we meet the smugglers, gun runners and fixers who operated in the shadows. This is the true story of the individuals who made the revolution possible in the face of impossible odds.Support the show: www.patreon.com/irishpodcastWritten, Researched & Narrated by Dr Brian HanleyProducer Fin DwyerSound Kate DunleaNote from Brian :In researching these episodes I have been indebted to the work of the following scholars;Anna Lively, Sam McGrath, Bruce Nelson, Terry Dunne, David Brundage, Niamh Coffey, Gerard Shannon,Maurice Casey, Kelly Anne Reynolds, Chris McNickle, Joe Doyle, Liz Gillis, FM Carroll, PatrickMannion, Jimmy Yann, Niall Cullen, Pádraig Óg Ó Ruairc, Keith Jeffrey, Arthur Mitchell, JohnBorgonovo, Kate O'Malley, Michael Doorley, Robin Adams, Kevin Kenny, Fearghal McGarry,Catherine M. Dean Karayanis, former Rush Limbaugh staffer and New York Sun columnist, steps in for Derek Hunter. The show digs into the 2026 war with Iran, a critique of media "elites," and a reflection on the shifting tides of American foreign policy and cultural resilience. The New York Times' skepticism regarding Israel's "decapitation" strategy against Iranian leadership is debunked with historical parallels to the fall of the Nazi regime. Dean pulls no punches on the resignation of National Counterterrorism Center Director Joe Kent, the "trust policies" of Fairfax County that he argues are endangering citizens, and the curious silence of the "Arab Street" as Iran's proxies face dismantling. The episode rounds out with a cultural critique — moving from the "woke" re-branding of Texas Democrats to the aspirational, colorblind philosophy of Star Trek's original series. It's a masterclass in connecting historical precedent to the chaotic reality of 2026. The Iran Conflict: Why "decapitating" leadership works and why the media is desperate to find "pragmatic" terrorists. NATO & The "Ugly American": A look at France and Ireland's critiques of U.S. policy and why Dean agrees with Lord Palmerston that nations have no permanent allies, just permanent interests. Domestic Security: The tragic murder of Stephanie Minter and the "trust policies" hampering law enforcement. Star Trek Philosophy: What Kirk, Uhura, and Lincoln can teach us about not fearing words in a hypersensitive age.
Today's Headlines: The Iran war claimed a notable casualty on the home front: Joe Kent, director of the National Counterterrorism Center, resigned and posted his letter on Twitter, writing that Iran posed no imminent threat and the war was started due to pressure from Israel's lobby. He's no hero — Kent is a MAGA loyalist with his own troubling associations — but when someone who could defend virtually everything else this administration has done draws a line here, that says something about how broadly unpopular this war has become. Meanwhile, Israel killed two of Iran's most senior remaining officials overnight, including the secretary of Iran's Supreme National Security Council, while continuing wide-scale strikes in Iran and southern Lebanon. Trump spent St. Patrick's Day in the Oval Office with Ireland's prime minister, alternating between insisting the U.S. doesn't need NATO's help and complaining it was "very unfair" that no one offered to send minesweepers. Cuba is now on the radar — Trump mused about "taking Cuba in some form" while his administration cut off the island's oil supply, triggering a nationwide blackout. He said he can do "anything he wants" with Cuba. Elsewhere in the circus: Trump appointed Erika Kirk — of Summer House — to the U.S. Air Force Academy's Board of Visitors, a formal congressional oversight body. In other news, Peter Thiel is in Rome giving private lectures warning about the Antichrist, and the Vatican is…not pleased. A former Kansas City pastor was suspended after it emerged she managed Epstein's private island in 2018-2019 and listed different employment on her resume. AG Pam Bondi was formally subpoenaed by the House Oversight Committee to testify about her handling of the Epstein files, with an appearance ordered for April 14th. And finally, the SEC is floating a proposal to cut public company earnings reports from quarterly to twice a year — still TBD, but worth watching and preliminary Illinois primary results. The Irish War of Independence often conjures images of guerrilla fighters on lonely mountainsides, on the run from the Black and Tans. While that is part of the story, Ireland's struggle for independence unfolded against the backdrop of a world in total crisis. As empires frayed and global movements for equality surged, the IRA sought out their own 'Brothers in Pain' navigating a shadow world of smugglers, gun runners, and unlikely international allies from the Soviet Union to the United States. This overlooked international dimension is the focus of a new series on the Irish History Podcast, hosted by historian Dr. Brian Hanley. This marks a new chapter for the show as we expand to two episodes per week.Brothers in Pain: The IRA in a Revolutionary World officially begins this Friday, March 20th. In this preview episode, I speak with Brian about what you can expect from this unique series as we uncover the story of the Irish Revolution as you have never heard it before. Hosted on Acast. Happy Day After St. Patrick's Day! Ann conducted a poll on X regarding peoples' favorite things about Ireland. Watch this week's show where she reads your most beautiful comments. Please keep them coming. We also get a beautiful St.Patrick's day toast from one of our favorite Israeli heroes. Watch the show to find out which one. And speaking of Israel - it always amazes us that Ireland is so hostile to this country that they have so much in common with. They are both countries where the indigenous population was colonized and persecuted. They both lost their language. Israel has successfully achieved independence and built a nation and revived a language - something that the Irish people have failed to do. The Irish still speak English - the Israelis speak Hebrew. Is jealousy part of the Irish problem with Israel?Shapiro Pushes A LieAnd speaking of Israel. Watch the podcast where we exclusively reveal how Pennsylvania Governor Josh Shapiro lies to push the fake news that the home of Mayor Momdani in New York was attacked because he was a Muslim. Shapiro knew this was a lie but pushed it anyway. And hatred of Israel is so strong that the Northern Ireland Minister of Finance couldn't keep her mouth shut and destroyed a 300 well-paid job opportunity for the country.Watch this week where you can learn how to fail in business without even trying.Headlines From Another PlanetAnd on a lighter note Ann brings you not one but two crazy headlines this week! Find out why Los Angeles residents are strapping cameras on their heads to do the dishes and how Indonesian trans sex workers are impacted from climate change. Yes, that's a real headline!.And speaking of journalism... our friend Christopher Dodge, is making a documentary about how the crimes of the Biden family were covered up and the brave IRS whistleblowers who exposed them. And the price they paid for their bravery. The documentary is Shielded By Power . It's the perfect companion piece to our movie My Son Hunter. But Christopher needs your help. Hollywood won't touch this movie. He is crowdfunding on Indiegogo. Please donate to ensure this important project gets made. Read more about the production here.Journalism Or Fan Fiction?Do you remember when Phelim told you about his torrid afternoon with Bridgette Bardot? Well now it's Ann's turn. She steams up the studio this week with Gavin Newsom, and the most sycophantic puff piece ever written by a journalist. And see where this journalist's possibly accidental remark exposes the truth. And Gavin Newsom's connection to Remmington Steele. And speaking of frauds, the climate alarmist Paul Ehrlich is dead at 93. Taoiseach Michel Martin has been meeting US president Donald Trump as part of the annual St Patrick's Day pageantry. Martin once again faced the challenge of outlining Ireland's positions on issues from tariffs to wars in Ukraine, Gaza and Iran while maintaining his personal dignity and without antagonising Trump to Ireland's detriment. It was no easy task, with the US president criticising UK prime minister Keir Starmer, attacking Europe on its migration and energy policies and misgendering President Catherine Connolly. So how did Martin do? Pat Leahy reports from Washington.Would you like to receive daily insights into world events delivered to your inbox? First up on this week's Inside Business is Ireland's housing crisis and where it is felt most – Dublin city. Mark Fitzgerald is chairman of the Fine Gael Commission for renewal and a non-executive director of Sherry FitzGerald Group. He joined host Cliff Taylor in studio to discuss a recent piece he wrote for the Irish Times where he highlights restrictive geography and the lack of imagination around land use and zoning as some of the key contributors to the challenging housing situation in the capital. But what decisions led to the current scarcity of supply and what choices could be made to meet demand for future generations in the capital? Also on this episode, the latest report from the Economic and Social Research Institute suggests Ireland is trending to fall far below the 2030 targets as set out in the Climate Action Plan.Focusing on decarbonising Irish households, the report highlights the slow uptake in retrofitting and the installation of heat pumps. The report also points out some of the barriers preventing homeowners from taking such measures.Muireann Lynch is a Senior Research Officer with the ESRI and co-authored the report. She joined Cliff on the line to go through the report's key points.Produced by John Casey with JJ Vernon on sound. Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy for more information.
Meet my friends, Clay Travis and Buck Sexton! If you love Verdict, the Clay Travis and Buck Sexton Show might also be in your audio wheelhouse. Politics, news analysis, and some pop culture and comedy thrown in too. Here’s a sample episode recapping four takeaways. Give the guys a listen and then follow and subscribe wherever you get your podcasts. Iran Optimism Clay and Buck argue that Democrats are struggling to oppose a mission widely seen as successful, particularly as oil markets stabilize and fears of global escalation fade. They also address speculation within a small subset of Trump supporters suggesting foreign influence over U.S. strategy, strongly rejecting the idea that Trump acts under pressure from any other nation. Buck shares insider perspective from his CIA Counterterrorism Center background, responding to the resignation of Joe Kent from the National Counterterrorism Center and offering blunt criticism of NCTC’s role within the intelligence community. The hosts emphasize Trump’s independence and his decades-long public record advocating a tougher stance toward the Iranian regime. Midway through the hour, the discussion turns to Cuba, where a nationwide blackout has plunged the island into darkness following the U.S. cutoff of Venezuelan oil shipments. Clay and Buck highlight how Cuba’s collapse, combined with Venezuela’s political shift and Iran’s military devastation, represents a historic weakening of three long-standing U.S. adversaries—an alignment the hosts compare to the geopolitical shift following the fall of the Berlin Wall. They also speculate on the enormous economic potential of a post-Communist Cuba, from tourism to restored American property claims. Saint Patrick's Day Clay and Buck celebrate St. Patrick’s Day while diving into major global stories unfolding in real time. The hour opens with a lively debate about parades, bagpipes, Irish heritage, and the quirks of genealogy—including a humorous exchange about green eyes, red hair, and whether those traits are uniquely Celtic. From ancestry talk to the Irish president’s St. Patrick’s Day message promoting globalism and mass migration, the hosts critique Ireland’s political direction and draw parallels to broader Western demographic decline, using Ireland’s dropping fertility rate as an example of why European governments have turned to large‑scale immigration. Iran Prosperity Project An interview featuring Shervin Pishevar, advisor to the Iran Prosperity Project, who outlines what he calls a “historic moment” inside Iran as citizens cheer U.S. drone strikes targeting the Basij militia. He describes Iranians celebrating the “precision liberation campaign,” blasting drone sounds from speakers to intimidate regime forces and secretly reporting Basij locations to help accelerate the fall of the Islamic Republic. Pishevar frames the ongoing conflict as the world’s first AI‑powered war, warning that if rogue states like Iran, Russia, or China gain access to similar autonomous drone or biotechnological capabilities, global security could be endangered. The discussion turns toward the Iranian people’s desire for democracy, the economic devastation inflicted by 47 years of theocratic rule, and the Iran Prosperity Project’s detailed 100‑day plan for a national referendum once the regime collapses. Pishevar argues that a free Iran could unlock more than a trillion dollars in trade with the United States and spark an economic boom comparable to Europe after World War II. He also emphasizes the critical role of Crown Prince Reza Pahlavi and the Iranian diaspora who view this moment as a turning point after decades of oppression. Clay and Buck press Pishevar on regional dynamics—including how the rapid modernization of Gulf nations like Saudi Arabia, Qatar, and the UAE stands in sharp contrast to Iran’s economic decay—and on what percentage of Iranians support regime overthrow. Pishevar asserts that the vast majority oppose the government and view the Trump‑led military campaign as liberation rather than intervention. He praises the killing of figures like Larijani and other top operatives of the IRGC, calling it a decisive blow against what he describes as a “mafia state.” Meet the Other Clay Shifting back to U.S. politics, Clay and Buck welcome Lieutenant Colonel Clay Fuller, Republican nominee for Georgia’s 14th congressional district—the seat formerly held by Marjorie Taylor Greene. Fuller discusses the April 7th special election, warns of Democrats attempting to quietly slip into power during low‑turnout contests, and stresses the urgency of voter mobilization in a district central to the national battle for control of Congress. He outlines his strong support for President Trump’s Iran strategy, his belief in deterring Iran’s military capabilities, and the importance of Georgia’s upcoming primary and general elections, where Senate and gubernatorial races will also dominate national attention. It's St. Patrick's day this week. A day that commemorates the Saint and the arrival of Christianity in Ireland. It celebrates the Irish luck that people feel because of the occasion. And while many of us count our blessings, and have moments of feeling lucky, there are those who seem absolutely cursed. Some people just can't catch a break, and suffer through with a string of terrible luck. Is it just a coincidence? Or was something done to anger the spirits? Either way when death comes knocking, you better hope your luck hasn't run out. Learn more about your ad choices. Visit podcastchoices.com/adchoices

For many people, Saint Patrick’s Day is associated with green clothing, shamrocks, and festive celebrations. Yet behind the cultural traditions is the powerful story of a man whose life was transformed by God and used to share the gospel with an entire nation. Patrick was born in the late fourth century in Roman Britain. As a teenager, he was kidnapped by Irish raiders and taken to Ireland as a slave. During his years of captivity, Patrick turned to God in prayer and grew deeply in his faith. Eventually, he escaped and returned home—but his story didn’t end there. Years later, Patrick experienced a powerful sense of calling from God to return to Ireland, the very place where he had once suffered. Despite feeling unqualified and uncertain, he chose to obey. Instead of holding onto bitterness toward the people who enslaved him, Patrick returned with compassion and a desire to share the message of Jesus. Through his ministry, many people in Ireland heard the gospel and came to faith in Christ. Patrick traveled widely, taught about God, and helped establish Christian communities. One well-known tradition says he used the three-leaf shamrock to explain the concept of the Trinity—Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. Patrick’s life reminds us that God can redeem even the most painful experiences. What once caused suffering in Patrick’s life became the very place where God used him most powerfully. His example also challenges us to forgive those who have wronged us and to respond with grace instead of resentment. Just as Patrick returned to Ireland with a heart transformed by God’s love, we are called to extend that same love to others and share the hope of the gospel wherever God sends us. Main Takeaways Saint Patrick’s story is one of redemption, forgiveness, and obedience to God. After being enslaved in Ireland, Patrick returned as a missionary to share the gospel. God can use painful experiences to fulfill His greater purposes. Patrick’s life reminds believers to forgive those who have wronged them. Christians are called to share the message of Christ with compassion and courage. Merriam-Webster's Word of the Day for March 17, 2026 is: Erin go bragh air-un-guh-BRAW phrase Erin go bragh is an Irish phrase that means “Ireland forever.” // They proudly waved the Irish flag during the parade, shouting “Erin go bragh!” See the entry > Examples: “Dressed in full Irish regalia, Fitzgerald rode his horse, Jack, through the streets of Clinton every St. Patrick's Day. Jack was also dressed for the occasion, with green ribbons on his mane and a green blanket with gold lettering, ‘Erin Go Bragh.'” — Craig S. Semon, The Worcester (Massachusetts) Telegram & Gazette, 22 Dec. 2025 Did you know? March 17th is the feast day of the patron saint of Ireland, St. Patrick. In the United States, it is also the day of shamrocks, leprechauns, and green beer (and green everything else). Blue was once the color traditionally associated with St. Patrick, but the color green has several links to Ireland, including its use on Ireland's flag in the form of a stripe, its symbolism of Irish nationalism and the country's religious history, and its connection to Ireland's nickname, The Emerald Isle. On St. Patrick's Day, people turn to their dictionary to look up Erin go bragh, which means “Ireland forever.” The original Irish phrase was Erin go brách (or go bráth), which translates literally as “Ireland till doomsday.” It's an expression of loyalty and devotion that first appeared in English during the late 18th-century Irish rebellion against the British.

President of the Catholic League Bill Donahue joins Sid for his annual St. Patrick's Day appearance to talk about why he no longer marches in New York's St. Patrick's Day parade: after defending the parade's rules against political banners, parade leaders in 2014 allowed gay groups to march under their own banner but, he says, continued to deny pro-life groups, which he calls a double-cross by parade “elites.” He adds disappointment that Ireland has become de-Christianized, far left, and supportive of recognizing a Palestinian state. When the Guinness family saw the turmoil and scandals of other great historic dynasties, they literally said, hold our beer, and proceeded to top them all. The new series, The House of Guinness dramatizes just one generation of the famous Irish family; the 4 children of Benjamin Guinness, who took over the brewing business in 1868. And while we'll cover what was fact and fiction, there is so much juicy gossip on with the rest of the family tree. Including some rather creative cases of looking for dates at the family reunion. From how they turned cold Irish porter into cold hard cash in the 1760s, to the 1960s drug impresario whose tragic death inspired the Beatles song "A day in the life" to rumors of a family curse. The clan has a history as dark as their famous stout. So order up a pint of plain, and let's get to know the Guinness family. On today's Bible Answer Man broadcast (03/17/26), Hank shares his thoughts on St. Patrick's Day. Saint Patrick was born a Brit in the fifth century, but when he was 16, he was captured by Irish pirates and taken to Ireland as a slave. After escaping, he later returned as a missionary. Although all analogies for the Trinity ultimately break down, Saint Patrick supposedly explained this doctrine by using a shamrock. Tradition credits him as the founder of Christianity in Ireland and its first bishop. Certainly, many came to faith in Christ through his ministry.Hank also answers the following questions:Have you heard of the New Apostolic Reformation? Are IHOP and Bethel Church in Redding associated with it? Ryan - Medicine Hat, AB (3:09)Can you explain the doctrine of predestination? Mary - Lincoln, NE (5:39)When we get to heaven will we remember this lifetime? Wesley - Gilmore, TX (9:44)Is Oneness Pentecostalism and its denial of the Trinity a heresy? Lisa - Richmond, VA (15:34)Could you give me some insight into the teaching of Ray Hagin and this idea of Afrocentrism? Shirley - Garner, NC (21:22)

Ireland and castles go hand in hand. With thousands scattered across the island, it can feel like there's one around every bend in the road. The real challenge isn't finding castles in Ireland — it's deciding which ones to add to your itinerary. Barbican Gate Rock of Dunamase, County Laois, Ireland This article is based on the Traveling in Ireland podcast, episode 331. Use the player below to listen or scroll to continue reading the article and get resource links. No matter the type of travel you enjoy—or the type of transportation you're using—you'll find castles that easily fit into your trip. With more than 30,000 castles and castle ruins scattered across Ireland, the real challenge isn't finding them… it's deciding which ones make sense for your route and the time you have. That's exactly the kind of planning the Ireland Travel Compass is designed to help with. It brings attractions and accommodations together geographically, helps you see what fits well together, and makes it much easier to build an itinerary that actually works. And if you'd like a simple way to start thinking about your own itinerary, I've created a resource that walks you through my TRIP framework – a straightforward way to avoid the most common Ireland planning mistakes and build a trip that feels manageable and enjoyable. 10 Castles in Ireland Worth Visiting With thousands of castles scattered across Ireland, choosing which ones to visit can feel a bit overwhelming. Here are a few of my favorite castles in Ireland—and why they stand out. Rock of Dunamase (County Laois) – The Dramatic Castle Ruin Rock of Dunamase may be one of the most atmospheric castle ruins in Ireland. The site dates back to the 9th century when it served as a stronghold of the Kings of Laois. The ruins visitors see today sit on top of a massive rocky outcrop and were largely destroyed during Cromwell's invasion in 1650. Even in ruin, the location tells you why it mattered: the views stretch for miles across the countryside. Traveler tips: Free OPW-managed site Rarely crowded Easy detour when traveling between Dublin and Kilkenny Short walk up to the ruins with sweeping views Driving through narrow country roads and farmland to reach it only adds to the experience. Lawn games in front of Malahide Castle : Crack the whip.By Aoife for Flytographer; Dublin, Ireland. All rights reserved. Malahide Castle (County Dublin) – The Fairy Tale Castle Just 10 minutes from Dublin Airport, Malahide Castle is a perfect first stop after arriving in Ireland. The castle itself offers fascinating guided tours led by engaging storytellers who bring the Talbot family history to life. But the estate offers far more than the castle alone. Visitors can enjoy: Extensive parklands perfect for stretching your legs after a flight Walled gardens A fairy trail Butterfly house Dining at Avoca café The grounds are partly free to explore, while the gardens and castle tour require tickets. During busy months (May–September), it's smart to pre-book the castle tour. Malahide is also very easy to reach from Dublin city center by DART or bus, making it a great half-day excursion. Looking for more day trips from Dublin? Click Here! Bunratty Castle beyond Durty Nellie's Bunratty Castle (County Clare) – The Irish Tower House Experience If you want to understand the most common type of castle in Ireland, Bunratty Castle is the perfect example. Tower houses — tall, four-story defensive structures — once dotted the Irish landscape. Bunratty is considered the most completely restored example in the country. Visitors can explore: Dungeon levels Narrow spiral staircases Battlements with views over the countryside Surrounding the castle is Bunratty Folk Park, a 26-acre living history village that showcases historic Irish homes and daily life. Highlights include: Traditional farmhouses and cottages Costumed interpreters A recreated village with shops, schoolhouse, and pub Bunratty is also famous for its medieval banquet experience, held year-round. These dinners are extremely popular, so booking well in advance is highly recommended. Kilkenny Castle viewed from the parklands Kilkenny Castle (County Kilkenny) – Ireland's Castle Palace Unlike many defensive castles, Kilkenny Castle evolved into a grand aristocratic residence. Originally built as a fortress, it was transformed over centuries by the Butler family — Earls and later Dukes of Ormond — who held the castle for more than 600 years. Today visitors will find: Elegant reception rooms Decorative plasterwork ceilings Large windows overlooking parkland Formal gardens The castle sits in the center of Kilkenny City, surrounded by roughly 50 acres of parkland that locals still use for picnics, sports, and relaxing on sunny days. Kilkenny Castle is an OPW managed site. Tickets are available on site, and advance booking is rarely necessary. Learn about the OPW Heritage Card – the best deal in Irish history Cahir Castle along the River Suir Cahir Castle (County Tipperary) – The Norman Stronghold Cahir Castle is one of the largest and best-preserved Norman castles in Ireland. Set on the River Suir, the fortress features massive stone walls, towers, and defensive structures typical of Norman military design. Visitors can: Climb the tower Explore defensive passages Stand beneath the working portcullis Look for cannonballs embedded in the walls Guided tours are included with admission and provide fascinating insight into how these massive defensive castles operated. Despite its impressive size, Cahir Castle often sees surprisingly small crowds, making it a rewarding stop between other popular attractions like the Rock of Cashel and Blarney Castle. Leap Castle Photo credit: Mike Searle, CC BY-SA 2.0 Leap Castle (County Offaly) – Ireland's Haunted Castle Leap Castle is often called the most haunted castle in Ireland. Built in the late 15th century, the castle is tied to dark legends and family power struggles. The castle chapel is known as the “Bloody Chapel,” named after a violent incident during a rivalry between brothers. During restoration work in the early 20th century, a hidden dungeon filled with human remains was reportedly discovered. Leap Castle is privately owned and lived in by musician Sean Ryan, who has carried out much of the restoration work. Visits are possible, but only by appointment, so travelers must contact the owner ahead of time to arrange a tour. Dunluce Castle on the Causeway Coast Dunluce Castle (County Antrim) – The Dramatic Cliffside Castle Few castles in Ireland match the dramatic setting of Dunluce Castle along the Causeway Coast. The ruins sit right on the edge of towering Atlantic cliffs, creating one of the most photographed castle locations in Ireland. Visitors can explore: Ruins of the castle keep Clifftop viewpoints Visitor center exhibits about the castle's history The castle itself is impressive, but the surrounding views may be even more memorable. Two particularly stunning viewpoints include: The bend in the road east of the castle, where it suddenly appears in front of you Magheracross viewpoint west of the castle, offering a sweeping coastal perspective Bring a jacket — the winds here are often strong even on calm days. Ireland's Best Castle Hotels Ashford Castle viewed from the gardens Ashford Castle (County Mayo) – The Luxury Castle Stay For travelers dreaming of staying in a castle, Ashford Castle delivers a truly luxurious experience. Once owned by the Guinness family, the estate now consistently ranks among the best hotels in Ireland. Activities on the estate include: Falconry Golf Horseback riding Boat tours on Lough Corrib Gardens and woodland walks Afternoon tea is particularly popular and should be reserved ahead of time. Ashford Castle works best as a destination stay rather than a touring base — there is so much to experience on the estate that most guests prefer to stay at least two nights. Access to the estate is restricted to guests or visitors with reservations. Lough Eske Castle from the guest car park Lough Eske Castle (County Donegal) – A Relaxing Castle Retreat Lough Eske Castle offers a luxurious but peaceful castle experience surrounded by the landscapes of County Donegal. The focus here is relaxation rather than packed schedules. Highlights include: Spacious rooms Beautiful lake and woodland setting A highly regarded spa Fine dining and afternoon tea Unlike some castle hotels, Lough Eske also works well as a touring base. Nearby excursions include: Slieve League Cliffs Glencolmcille Scenic drives along Donegal's coast Families will appreciate that the hotel offers interconnecting rooms — something not commonly found in castle accommodations. Approaching Kinnity Castle Kinnitty Castle (County Offaly) – The Most Authentic Castle Stay For travelers who want a castle experience that feels historic and intimate, Kinnitty Castle is a wonderful option. Unlike many castle hotels that have been extensively modernized, Kinnitty retains much of its traditional character. The baronial rooms at the top of the castle feature exposed stone and wood, creating the feeling of being a guest in a historic residence. Activities nearby include: Horseback riding Archery Hill walking in the Slieve Bloom Mountains Guests can also visit nearby attractions like Birr Castle and Gardens. Inside the castle, the Dungeon Bar is a memorable spot for a meal, while the Library Bar is perfect for relaxing by the fire with a drink. One practical tip: there is no elevator, so pack lightly if you're staying on the upper floors. No matter how you choose to explore Ireland, castles have a way of connecting you to the country's history, its stories, and sometimes even its legends. And with so many scattered across the island, chances are you'll find at least one – or several – that fit perfectly into your trip. Mike sits down with Peter Patrick Kenny for a wide-ranging conversation about preaching, preparation, and pastoral ministry. They discuss sermons that cover thirteen chapters and sermons that focus on just two verses, the dangers of over-relying on full manuscript notes, and the habit of slipping into “Christianese” when communicating biblical truth. They also explore tools like discourse analysis, arcing, and inductive Bible study, and how these approaches help preachers understand the text more deeply and communicate it more clearly to their congregations.Along the way, Peter reflects on the ministry of assistant pastors and shares lessons he learned while serving under the guidance of Ed Neill at Grosvenor Street Baptist Church in Dublin. It's a fun, friendly conversation between two friends that will encourage and equip anyone who studies, teaches, or preaches the Bible.Peter is originally from Co. Tipperary, Ireland and now lives in Cork with his wife and three children. He has the joy of serving as the pastor of Cork Baptist Church, a very diverse city centre congregation that has been in it's current building since the 1890s and in the city for many years before. He's excited to see what God will do in the years ahead as his word is preached.Resources Mentioned: Preaching to a Post-Everything World - Zack Eswine : https://www.logos.com/product/43211/preaching-to-a-post-everything-world-crafting-biblical-sermons-that-connect-with-our-culture Charlie Wingard's book Help For The New Pastor: https://charliewingard.com/book/ Bible Arc : https://app.biblearc.com/Additional Resources:https://www.thegospelcoalition.org/themelios/review/an-interpretive-lexicon-of-new-testament-greek-beale-brendsel-ross/https://cdn.desiringgod.org/pdf/booklets/BTBX.pdfhttps://www.thegospelcoalition.org/profile/benjamin-l-gladd/https://www.thegospelcoalition.org/blogs/justin-taylor/preaching-to-post-everything-world/https://www.christcenteredpreaching.com/https://www.grosvenorbaptist.org/Join us for our next Training Weekend May 15th-16th, 2026 at Reliance Church in Temecula, CaliforniaRegister Today! The US Israel war with Iran has caused significant disruption to the global supply of oil and caused major economic upheaval. The US government has granted permission to domestic oil producers to drill in Alaska and the Gulf of Mexico, but much of America's oil comes from fracking. So will the frackers be taking advantage of current high oil prices to increase production? Vishala Sri-Pathma has the latest. In Sri Lanka, the government has announced an emergency shift to a four day work week to conserve dwindling fuel reserves, amid growing fears over petrol shortages. The Sri Lankan government has now declared that every Wednesday will now be a public holiday to cut fuel consumption on the island. Elsewhere, there were real worries in Dublin that Donald Trump's tax agenda could see US multinationals paying far less corporation tax in Ireland on their European profits. However, those fears haven't materialised. US tariffs have generally not been applied to pharmaceutical products which are Ireland's main export to the US. Meanwhile, the Irish economy has also been underpinned by a continuing corporation tax windfall.
Europe and the United States share the largest trade relationship in the world, worth nearly 2 trillion dollars each year, but that partnership is starting to fracture. Beneath the surface, this relationship is built on deeply interconnected supply chains, financial systems, and mutual dependencies that extend far beyond simple trade numbers. While headlines focus on tariffs and political tension, the deeper issue is structural dependence and what happens if it begins to unravel. As the United States turns inward and Europe looks to new trade partners, the question arises whether Europe and other middle powers can realistically reduce their reliance on major economic powers. It examines why the trade relationship is more balanced than it appears how services reshape the deficit narrative, the risks facing economies like Germany and Ireland, and what a shift toward independence could mean for the future of global trade. https://economics-explained-tv-program.beehiiv.com/ Learn more about your ad choices. Friends of the Rosary,Today, March 17, is the Memorial of St. Patrick, a bishop chosen by God 1.500 years ago to preach His glory by bringing Christianity to Ireland, a little country which would be converted from their pagan gods to the one true God.Today, Irishmen venerate him as their father in the Faith.Sf. Patrick was born about 385 in the British Isles. In Roman Britain, when he was 16, while he was tending his sheep, Irish raiders captured him and sold him into slavery. Six years later, he escaped to Europe, became a monk, and was ordained; he then returned to Ireland to preach the Gospel.During the thirty years of missionary work, he covered the Island with churches and monasteries and founded the metropolitan see of Armagh. Many legends are associated with St. Patrick: how he drove the snakes out of Ireland and how he used the shamrock to teach the mystery of the Trinity.Ireland, although a small country, played a large role in spreading the true faith to the world. During the early Dark Ages, and while Europe remained in darkness, the Irish monasteries preserved Western writingsIn his autobiography, Confessions, written in true humility, St. Patrick said,“I am greatly God's debtor, because he granted me so much grace, that through me many people would be reborn in God.”Ave Maria!Come, Holy Spirit, come!To Jesus through Mary! Here I am, Lord; I come to do your will. Please give us the grace to respond with joy!+ Mikel Amigot w/ María Blanca | RosaryNetwork.com, New YorkEnhance your faith with the new Holy Rosary University app:Apple iOS | New! Ireland has long been a place where the line between myth and mystery blurs. Stories of strange lights drifting across lakes, phantom vessels gliding silently through the night, and mysterious visitors from the skies have been passed down for generations. But what if some of those legends weren't just folklore? In this special St. Patrick's Day episode, Ryan explores Ireland's strangest UFO encounters. From ancient tales of a druid said to command a flying “wheel,” to glowing boats appearing on a misty lake, to modern sightings of hovering craft, radar anomalies, and multiple airline pilots reporting brilliant lights racing past their aircraft over the Atlantic. Along the way, Ryan uncovers a rumored UFO crash that reached the halls of government, a bizarre roadside creature sighting, and chilling close encounters. Are these echoes of folklore… or evidence that something unexplained has been visiting the Emerald Isle for centuries? Happy St. Patrick's Day and keep looking up!
