When you're motivated to be your best, the world is your oyster. Good things such as a great job, ideal partners and prime opportunities, come to those who believe in themselves. Self-esteem and a good strong self-concept are central to being highly motivated. It's hard for others to believe in you if you don't believe in yourself. This is true in leadership, sales and even when raising a family. Tony Robbins' mentor, Jim Rohn, famously said you are the sum of the five people you hang around with most. If your five best friends are destitute, you are more likely to become poor. If your favorite five people are upwardly mobile, you are likely to do well financially. E68: Stem cell lesson from Dr. Tom Nabity

Here's an interview with a #Michigan doctor on the topic of stem cell harvesting and banking. Watch the video version on the Michael Angelo Caruso YouTube channel at https://www.youtube.com/michaelangelocaruso. Dr. Tom Nabity runs the Michigan Center for Regenerative Medicine. He is a non-surgical, orthopedic physician who specializes in pain management, including stem cell therapy. One of its services is harvesting stem cells from patients so that those patients can heal more quickly from future age-related maladies such as: - Bone fractures (broken hips, compression fractures) - Heart attack recovery - Stroke recovery - Alzheimer's and dementia - Slowing of the aging process Important: This podcast does not offer official #health or medical advice. Consult your doctor before undertaking any medical procedure. There are four types of stem cells: 1) Embryonic 2) Umbilical cord from a donor 3) Autologous from fat 4) Autologous from bone marrow* *Michael had stem cells pulled from his bone marrow (upper pelvis). The procedure: The doc uses ultrasound to identify a good, safe entry place, then sterilizes the location. A numbing agent is introduced. A diamond tip needle is inserted (about a half-inch in Michael's case). The doctor can use a hand drill or a power drill for the insertion of the needle. He uses a syringe to harvest the bone marrow, which is actually 60 ccs of blood. The large vials are then sent to the stem cell bank to be cryogenically stored at super cold temperatures stored. Dr. Nabity uses Forever Labs in Ann Arbor, Michigan. The going rate on stem cell banking costs about $250 per year. Michael thinks of it as an investment in his health. There are still lots of unanswered questions, such as: - What happens when lots of people start living longer? - What about people who can't afford to bank their own stem cells? - Will reintroducing stem cells work the way we want it to? E64: Stem cell doctor promotes quality of life, longevity

Here's an interview with a #Michigan doctor on the topic of stem cell harvesting and banking. Watch the video version on Michael's YouTube channel at xxxxx. This "Talk to Me" #podcast with Michael Angelo Caruso features Dr. Tom Nabity, who runs the Michigan Center for Regenerative Medicine. There are still lots of unanswered questions, regarding this process, such as: - What happens when lots of people start living longer? - What about people who can't afford to bank their own stem cells? - Will reintroducing stem cells work the way we want it to? He has performed with many jazz, Latin, World music, World fusion, Afro-Cuban, and rock bands as a touring, session recording, and full-time player. Reyes is known for his fusion of many of the world's percussion techniques, including the ability to play a drum set with his hands in addition to the traditional use of drumsticks.   It's said that he can "sound like a drummer and a percussionist at the same time". He is well known as a long-term member of Santana, and a member of Chicago as the percussionist from 2012—2018 and the drummer since 2018.  Walfredo Reyes Jr. was born on December 18, 1955 in Havana, Cuba. He's a third generation musician in a prolific professional musical lineage on both sides of his family, including several globally notable percussion experts. His father is percussionist Walfredo Reyes, Sr.; one brother is World music percussionist Daniel de los Reyes (also with Chicago); another brother is actor Kamar de los Reyes; and his grandfather is trumpeter and Cuban orchestral organizer, Walfredo de los Reyes II. Reyes has had a lifelong interest in the music of Chicago Transit Authority, now known as Chicago. He says that the band's debut album, Chicago Transit Authority, is the first album that he had ever purchased as a youth with his own money. The following passage is written by Rick Van Horn: “Few drummers playing today can successfully combine the rich history of Latin, Afro-Cuban and World Percussion with the drum set.  For Walfredo Reyes, Jr., fusing the two disciplines has been his driving passion. In fact, by blazing this path, Reyes has challenged the technical levels of our instrument. Born in Cuba, raised in Puerto Rico, and culminating his musical style in the U.S., Wally (Walfredo Jr.) learned the traditions from the master, his father Walfredo Sr. "He married those principles with his love of the drum set, coming up with his own truly global rhythmic style. Simply put, Wally is able to sound like a drummer and a percussionist at the same time. Add blistering chops and a penchant for playing unusual patterns to the mix, and you have only a small idea of what this man can do." Not surprisingly, this one-man percussion show has gathered an impressive list of gigs over the years, including touring and/or recording with: - Carlos Santana, Traffic - Steve Winwood - Jackson Browne - Celia Cruz - Gloria Estefan - David Lindley - Ricki Lee Jones - Richard Marx - Sergio Mendes - Smokey Robinson - Robbie Robertson- Joe Sample - Boz Scaggs- Christina Aguilera - Ricky Martin - Johnny Hallyday - Khaled - Lindsey Buckingham - Chicago - And many others Because of his versatility, Walfredo is one of the most in demand musicians in the world today. Riley, a junior at Oakland University, helped create 13 Reasons Why NOT, centered on Netflix’s show 13 Reason’s Why, in which the lead character leaves behind a recording blaming 13 people for her suicide. Riley's 13 Reasons Why NOT program arranged for thirteen students from Michigan's Oxford High School to make public address announcements to 1,800 fellow students by sharing an emotionally vulnerable place they had been through and thanking someone who had helped them out of it. Feedback created a national sensation with over 100 major news organizations picking up the story, including Nightline, the Washington Post, and USA Today. National Public Radio (NPR) featured 13 Reasons Why NOT as one of the Best Youth News Stories of 2017 and then, Netflix got involved. She is now the face of Netflix's social campaign Tell Them which uses inspirational stories to overcome struggles such as mental illness, abuse and sexual harassment.  This social media campaign uses stories of recovery to inspire youth to come forward with the problems they may be facing.  The Tell Them videos can be viewed across all of Netflix's platforms for the second season of 13 Reasons Why. Riley is currently earning her bachelors in Clinical Psychology at Oakland University, an international public speaker and a certified Crisis Intervention Counselor who teaches on using vulnerability to help those at risk for suicide.  She uses both personal testimony from her battle with mental illness and hands-on work with youth to break silence and stigma surrounding mental health. Her speeches are critically acclaimed for bringing hope to a tough topic and giving communities tangible stories of recovery after mental illness. E31: Best Presentation Advice I Ever Got

Professional presenters are a special breed. Salespeople and top leaders are a fearless bunch. You have to be brave to stand up in front of group of people and speak to them with clarity and verve. Most of sellers are "pleasers" who love the spotlight. They're mostly egocentrics who are more than okay with attention. "In short, we presenters love ourselves," says veteran keynote speaker, Michael Angelo Caruso. "And we want you to love us." That's why salespeople work so hard to meet with you. They want to tell you about themselves, their products, their services. They want to give you a presentation and then hopefully, submit a proposal. "But ego centrism works against us," says Caruso. "The best presentation advice I've received is from the book, 'Let's Get Real or Let's Not Play' by Mahan Khalsa." This video covers two Khalsa-isms: 1) Don't present to people just because.... 2) Don't create/submit a proposal unless you know EXACTLY what the prospect wants. "When I incorporated these two concepts into how I handled presentations, my life improved immensely" says Caruso. "And now this is what I teach my Present Like a Pro students.'" Brandon Voss is the son of Chris Voss, author of the terrific book, "Never Split the Difference: Negotiating As If Your Life Depended On It." In negotiation, there are three types of "yes": 1) Counterfeit (designed to make you go away)2) Confirmation (innocent, reflexive, black & white)3) Commitment (the real deal, leads to action) Is your email getting ignored? Put this in the subject line: "Have you given up on this project?" Other talking points include: - Never underestimate the other side's desire to correct you - The question that stops an aggressive negotiator in his tracks is "How am I supposed to do that?" - The importance of tactical empathy And know this: women are better negotiators than men. It turns out that most females truly understand empathy and that there's power in deference.
