What the Riff?!?
1988 - January: Sting "...Nothing Like the Sun"

What the Riff?!?

Play Episode Listen Later Mar 31, 2025 43:09

Nothing Like the Sun, or as it is written on the album, "...Nothing Like the Sun,"  is the second solo studio album by former Police bassist and front man Sting.  The title comes from Shakespeare's sonnet number 130 which contains the lines, "My mistress' eyes are nothing like the sun."  Sting was met on the street one evening, who asked him, "How beautiful is the moon?"  Sting responded with this line from the sonnet.  Two events play a lot of influence on this album.  First, Sting's mother died in 1986, inspiring the lyrics to the opening track, "Lazarus Heart."  Second Sting joined the Conspiracy of Hope tour for Amnesty International, and through this tour was exposed to victims of government oppression in Latin America.  He was particularly moved by people in Chile for whom loved ones had "disappeared" in government actions, and wrote "They Dance Alone" as a description of the mourners who would dance the traditional Cueca by themselves with a picture of their loved ones pinned to their clothes.Sting's first solo album leaned into jazz.  This second album continues to have a jazz influence but reaches across a number of other genres including reggae, funk, acoustic rock, soft rock, and world music.  He brought in a number of solid musicians into the recording sessions including Gil Evans, Eric Clapton, Mark Knopfler, Branford Marsalis, and even his fellow Police alumnus Andy SummersSting would continue to further success after this album, which peaked at number 9 on the Billboard 200 chart.  In the UK, ...Nothing Like the Sun debuted and peaked at number 1 on the UK albums chart.Bruce presents this adult contemporary album for this week's podcast. Be Still My Beating HeartThis second single from the album went to number 15 on the Billboard Hot 100.  The lyrics are quite mature, describing the head telling the heart to settle down in the midst of an intense romance.  The title was likely inspired by a 19th Century poem from Mary Elizabeth Coleridge.  Andy Summers is playing guitar on this track.  Little WingMost of this album is original music written by Sting, but this one is a deeper cut and a cover.  Jimi Hendrix wrote "Little Wing" in 1967, and it appears on his "Axis" album.  Gil Evans did a jazz arrangement of this piece in 1974, and provided this arrangement and backing with his orchestra for this cover.  Sting's version runs just over 5 minutes, giving it a run time just over double that of the original Hendrix version.  Rock SteadyAnother deep cut, this song is Stings humorous look at a couple who have volunteered to join a cruise, and later find out that they are joining Noah on the Ark.  "Life may be tough, but we're sailing with the Lord."  FragileThis is the fourth single from the album, and is a gorgeous acoustic piece.  This anti-war song was likely inspired by Sting's work with Amnesty International. ENTERTAINMENT TRACK:That's Amore by Dean Martin (from the motion picture “Moonstruck”) This romance comedy starring Cher and Nicolas Cage delivered a Best Actress Oscar to Cher and a Best Supporting Actress Oscar to Olympia Dukakis.  STAFF PICKS:The Promise by When In RomeRob starts this week's staff picks with the only hit from a British new wave trio.  This track went to number 11 on the Billboard Hot 100, and became a popular song to play at weddings later on.  It gained a revival in popularity when it was used in the soundtrack to "Napoleon Dynamite" in 2004.  Got My Mind Set On You by George HarrisonLynch brings us a cover of a song originally written by Rudy Clark and recorded by James Ray in 1962.  It is off Harrison's comeback album, "Cloud Nine."  Harrison worked with Jeff Lynne on the album because he wanted a producer who wouldn't be intimidated by working with a Beatle.  The teamwork went well, and the two would go on to form "The Traveling Wilburys" supergroup shortly thereafter.Dude (Looks Like a Lady) by AerosmithWayne features one of many hits from Aerosmith's monster "Permanent Vacation" album.  The lyrics tell the tale of a man finding out that the "girl" he has bee pursuing at a club was a man dressed up as a woman.  The idea for the song came from Motley Crue singer Vince Neil being mistaken frequently for a woman with long blonde hair.Mission by RushBruce closes out the staff picks with a song which arose from a conversation between Neal Peart and Geddy Lee about the perception people have that the rich and famous have easier lives.  The lyrics reflect how every life has its own difficulties, and perhaps those who are highly successful would often wish for a more plain and settled life at times.   INSTRUMENTAL TRACK:Bailando/Aquatic Park by Carlos SantanaGuitar virtuoso Carlos Santana takes us out this week with a track from his solo album, "Blues for Salvador." What the Riff?!?
1987 - November: Bruce Springsteen “Tunnel of Love”

What the Riff?!?

Play Episode Listen Later Oct 3, 2022 38:21

After the overwhelming success of his “Born to Run” album, Bruce Springsteen's next studio album would take a dramatically different approach.  First, Tunnel of Love would be a solo project, and the E. Street Band was not credited as a contributor, though many members of the E. Street Band would be credited individually. Springsteen plays many of the instruments himself, and made use of drum machines and synthesizers on the tracks.  Second, the lyrics look inward as Springsteen explores aspects of lost love.  Springsteen was reacting to his troubled marriage to actress Julianne Phillips from whom he would receive divorce papers the following year. The divorce was finalized in 1989.Tunnel of Love was a critical and commercial success.  Critics would praise the originality of the material and its introspective nature.  The album would receive a Grammy award for Best Rock Vocal Performance, Solo at the 1988 Grammy awards.  Commercially the album would hit number 1 on the Billboard 200 charts and go triple platinum.  Five singles would be released from the album, three of which cracked the top 20 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart.Brian brings us this album for today's podcast. Two FacesThis deeper cut explores how there is a lighter side and a darker side within each of us, and how we can come to hurt the ones we love.  The singer prays that the “our love will make the other man go away,” but that other man is a part of us.Brilliant DisguiseThis was the first single released from the album, and it went to number 5 on the Billboard Hot 100 and number 1 on the Mainstream Rock chart.  It reflects doubt, first in the singer's lover, and later in the singer himself.  The question is whether either has become a stranger to the other. One Step UpThis third single from the album was only released as a single in the U.S.  Unlike much of the album, this song was not recorded in Springsteen's home studio, but at A&M Studios in Los Angeles.  The song reflects the troubles in Springsteen's marriage.  Although Springsteen played all instruments, E Street Band member Patti Scialfa sings backup.  Scialfa would marry Springsteen in 1991.Valentine's Day The last song on the album takes a surprisingly upbeat look at relationships, as the singer longs for his love.  It's quite a contrast with the other songs on the album.  “So hold me close honey say you're forever mine, and tell me you'll be my lonely valentine.” ENTERTAINMENT TRACK:Mess Around by Ray Charles (from the motion picture “Planes, Trains and Automobiles”)  With the abundance of Christmas movies, this is an unusual Thanksgiving comedy starring Steve Martin and John Candy trying to get home during the Holiday rush.  STAFF PICKS:Time Stand Still by Rush Bruce leads off the staff picks with the first single from Rush's 12th studio album “Hold Your Fire.”  The lyrics were inspired by Neal Peart's time in the band as he reflects on the things he missed while spending time on the road.  'Til Tuesday's lead singer and bassist Aimee Mann contributes backing vocals on this song. Hazy Shade of Winter  by The BanglesWayne brings us a cover with a much faster beat than the original Simon and Garfunkel version.  This song appeared on the soundtrack for the motion picture “Less Than Zero.” The Bangles had covered this song since 1983, and offered it to the movie rather than writing a new piece.  The Bangle's version peaked at number 2 on the charts.Give to Live by Sammy Hagar The Red Rocker was still under contract for a solo album despite joining Van Halen, and Rob features this single off the album that fulfilled his commitment.  Tidbit: Eddie Van Halen plays bass on this album.Little Lies by Fleetwood MacBrian finishes off the staff picks with a hit from the album “Tango In the Night.”  Keyboardist Christine McVie takes her turn on lead with this song written by her and her husband at the time, Eddy Quintela.  The idea is that sometimes little lies are easier to take than the truth.     INSTRUMENTAL TRACK:Midnight by Joe SatrianiThis is an instrumental selection from Satriani's album “Surfing With the Alien,” released in 1987.

With extensive, first-hand reflections from Geddy Lee, Alex Lifeson, and Neil Peart, as well as from family, friends, and fellow musicians, "Anthem: Rush in the '70s" is a detailed portrait of Canada's greatest rock ambassadors. The first of three books in the "Rush Across The Decades" series, "Anthem" puts the band's catalog, from their self-titled debut to 1978's 'Hemispheres' into both Canadian and general pop culture context, and presents the trio of quintessentially dependable, courteous Canucks as generators of incendiary, groundbreaking rock 'n' roll.Fighting complacency, provoking thought, and often enraging critics, Rush has been at war with the music industry since 1974, when they were first dismissed as the Led Zeppelin of the north. "Anthem", like each volume in this series, celebrates the perseverance of Geddy, Alex, and Neil: three men who maintained their values while operating from a Canadian base, throughout lean years, personal tragedies, and the band's eventual worldwide success.Martin Popoff has written close to 100 books on hard rock, heavy metal, classic rock and record collecting. Peter Schultz was in an early version of Rush.  He helped start the legendary band! We all come from someplace and the gentleman featured in this interview Neal Peart, the virtuoso drummer of the Canadian prog-rock band, Rush, passed away a while back, causing many fans to reminisce to people were about the early days of the band. Author and speaker, Michael Angelo Caruso, interviewed Peter (remember the TV show "What's My Line?") Schultz about his odd and exciting connection to the Alex Lifeson, the guitar player in Rush. Peter grew up in Toronto, Ontario and played in a band with the guitar player from Rush. From age 12 to age 14, Peter and Alex jammed together in at least one-third of the band that was the band that became Rush. Michael conducted this "Talk to Me" podcast interview from Detroit, Michigan and Peter Zoomed in from British Columbia, Canada. Michael was also in a band early on. The Caruso Brothers toured North America on the college circuit opening for acts such as Rick "Jessie's Girl" Springfield, Joan "I Love Rock 'n' Roll" Jett and Corey "I Wear My Sunglasses At Night" Hart. You'll learn a simple, yet effective technique for confidence that few leaders use and the best way to offer criticism. Unfortunately, most managers try to motivate employees using three tools that usually don't motivate: job descriptions, performance reviews and evaluation forms that are linked to money. It turns out that money doesn't motivate most employees anyway. Michael uses the amazing power of story to motivate leaders who attend his presentations.

[Gottesblog] On Genuflecting – Larry Beane

On Genuflecting By Larry Beane,   The ceremony of genuflecting at the altar is a particular ceremony that some people deride as “Too Catholic.” Genuflecting is what is commonly called “taking a knee.” It is a kind of kneeling in which one drops to only one knee, probably in the interest of time to be able to get back up quickly - especially for pastors who become long in the tooth often at a rate exceeding that of the laity. When it comes to kneeling, sometimes the spirit is willing, but the flesh is weak. For many of us d'un certain âge, bowing from the waist down is a more practical way of carrying out this ceremony. But you young guys should be able to genuflect and rise again with no trouble, or else you need to hit the glucosamine and chondroiten, if not the gym. When I was the campus pastor of a high school, one of my duties was to lead the football team in the Lord's Prayer in the end zone, after the coach called out the rubric: “Take a knee, guys!”. Kneeling is a posture of prayer, of humility, and of worship of God. It is a ceremony that is appropriate at certain times in our liturgy. According to our shared confession in the Book of Concord, the purpose of ceremonies is that people may be “taught what they need to know about Christ” (AC 24:3). And if Roman Catholics and Anglicans genuflect before the altar, but Baptists, Methodists, the Reformed, and Non-Denominational Christians do not, what is the ceremony (or lack of ceremony) teaching? Indeed, it would be incongruent for a Baptist minister to pronounce the Words of Institution and then genuflect after the words pertaining to each element. This is because Baptists believe that Christ is not present, that the elements are only symbolic. Roman Catholics and (at least some) Anglicans believe that Jesus is miraculously and physically present in the Sacrament. So which ceremony (genuflecting or not genuflecting) makes more sense for the Lutheran consecration? What does genuflecting during the consecration teach about Christ? Kneeling is an act of worship. Angels forbade kneeling before them because they are not worthy of worship (Rev 19:10, 22:8-9). We are to worship God alone (Matt 9:10). The wise men “fell down and worshipped” the baby Jesus (Matt 2:11) - with the word for worship (προσκυνὲω) being more than just an intellectual acknowledgement of his divinity. The word means to worship with the body, by kneeling or prostrating oneself, in the presence of God. A Baptist minister who confesses that the elements are only symbolic would - in his own mind and confession - be guilty of idolatry were he to genuflect before that which is merely a creature and not the Creator. Lutherans - along with Roman Catholics and (some) Anglicans (and the Orthodox Christians), confess the Real Presence, that Jesus is physically (not merely symbolically or spiritually) present. So our piety concerning the Lord's Supper is traditionally quite different than that of a Baptist or Presbyterian or Non-Denominational pastor or layman. For instance, most Lutherans kneel to receive the Sacrament, and our church architecture typically encourages this by virtue of a communion rail with kneelers. Again, this would not make sense in a Baptist context. (I'm not picking on Baptists here, it's just that they are the largest confession of Christians in our context in North America who confess the symbolic nature of their communion elements). So, is it also incongruent for Lutherans to genuflect during the consecration? Interestingly, during the Reformation, the Reformed accused the Lutherans of “bread worship” because of our confession of the Physical Presence. They considered such things as bowing or genuflecting during the consecration to be idolatry. Calvinistic rulers ordered the Lutherans to stop doing it. Obviously, we Lutherans disagree with them on this. And in fact, many editions of the Book of Concord include quotes from the early church fathers - largely to respond to the accusations of the Reformed - in a section called the Catalog of Testimonies. One such quote comes from St. Augustine, and it involves acts of worship toward Christ in the Sacrament: Of the Words of the Lord, Discourse 58 (t. 10, p. 217): “If Christ is not God by nature, but a creature, He is neither to be worshiped nor adored as God. But to these things they will reply and say: Why, then, is it that you adore with His divinity His flesh, which you do not deny to be a creature, and are no less devoted to it than to Deity?” The same, on Ps. 99:5 (t. 8, p. 1103): “‘Worship His footstool.' His footstool is the earth, and Christ took upon Him earth of earth, because flesh is of earth; and He received flesh of the flesh of Mary. And because He walked here in this very flesh, he also gave this very flesh to be eaten by us for salvation. But no one eats that flesh unless He has first worshiped it. Therefore the way has been found how such footstool of the Lord may be worshiped, so that we not only do not sin by worshiping, but sin by not worshiping.” The celebrant, deacon, and acolyte customarily have genuflected together in my parish's celebration. I had a devout parishioner who moved away who would also genuflect in the pew. This is not just a ceremony that only the pastor may participate in. We Lutherans also confess the freedom in the Gospel regarding ceremonies. For example, it is customary to make the sign of the cross at certain points in our personal prayer life (as we are instructed in the Small Catechism), and in our liturgical worship. Again, this ceremony teaches us about Christ - it is a confession of His divinity as the Son in the confession of the Holy Trinity, and it links His crucifixion to Holy Baptism by means of the Trinitarian invocation. Tracing the large sign of the cross from our heads, hearts, and shoulders began as a confession against the Arians, who did not confess the Lord's divinity. This way of making the sign of the cross was a modification of the earlier practice of crossing oneself on the forehead as a reminder of Holy Baptism. But no member of the parish should pressure anyone to either make the sign of the cross or not. That is a matter of personal piety. The pastor is also a member of the congregation with Christian freedom. He may choose to cross Himself at certain points in the service, or he may choose not to. No other member of the parish has the right to pressure, bully, or force him to do so, or to stop doing so, any more than anyone has the right to compel a layman to either do so or not. Genuflecting is a similar act of personal piety (as are things like bowing for the Gloria Patri, nodding the head at the name of Jesus, or folding one's hands to pray). So a parishioner has no more right to demand that a pastor cease to genuflect at the altar than he has to demand that the pastor cross himself at the beginning of the sermon. Luther was actually appalled to learn that some parishioners did not genuflect in the pew during the chanting of the Nicene Creed (there is an ancient custom to genuflect at the words “and was made man”). He said: And when the congregation came to the words, “from the Virgin Mary and was made man,” every one genuflected and removed his hat. It would still be proper and appropriate to kneel at the words “and was made man,” to sing them with long notes as formerly, to listen with happy hearts to the message the Divine Majesty abased Himself and became like us poor bags of worms, and to thank God for the ineffable mercy and compassion reflected in the incarnation of the Deity. But who can ever do justice to that theme?...The following tale is told about a course and brutal lout. While the words, “And was made man” were being sung in church, he remained standing, neither genuflecting nor removing his hat. He showed no reverence, but just stood there like a clod. All the others dropped to their knees when the Nicene Creed was prayed and chanted devoutly. Then the devil stepped up to him and hit him so hard it made his head spin. He cursed him gruesomely and said: “May hell consume you, you boorish ass! If God had become an angel like me and the congregation sang: ‘God was made an angel,' I would bend not only my knees but my whole body to the ground! Yes, I would crawl ten ells down into the ground. And you vile human creature, you stand there like a stick or a stone. You hear that God did not become an angel but a man like you, and you just stand there like a stick of wood!” Whether this story is true or not, it is nevertheless in accordance with the faith (Rom. 12:6). With this illustrative story the holy fathers wished to admonish the youth to revere the indescribably great miracle of the incarnation; they wanted us to open our eyes wide and ponder these words as well. ~ Luther's Works, Vol. 22, pp.102-103, 105-106 Everything that we do during worship is a ceremony - even refraining from certain ceremonies. As the late Atheist philosopher Neal Peart put it in a lyrical poem entitled Free Will (some of our readers may even know this entire work from memory): “If you choose not to decide, you still have made a choice.” And before you tap out that hate-letter to Father Eckardt and contact my District President for a heresy trial, I'm not endorsing everything in the song. I'm only using it as an analogy that refraining from a given ceremony is also a ceremony. So we should be deliberate of what confession we are making by either partaking of a ceremonial act, or opting not to. But again, we do so in the realm of Christian liberty. And yes, we should teach, while being mindful that conducting ceremonies - like genuflecting at the altar - is part of that pastoral pedagogy that we are called to do. We should humbly be willing to be taught - especially by the man who has been sent by the Holy Spirit to teach us. And teaching is done in the liturgy as well as in the classroom. What we do in the presence of the altar, font, and pulpit is a powerful confession and explication of what we say that we believe. And if anyone believes genuflecting to be wrong, sinful, or incongruent with our confession, he should be prepared to quote the Bible and the Confessions to make a case for why our ceremonies should resemble those who confess the Real Absence in the Lord's Supper, as well as for making a case that earlier centuries of Lutheran practice has also been wrong.

Welcome to what is probably the last episode of The Modern Moron… for 2020.  Maybe the best thing about this episode is that it’s short!  So why include it?  I have a couple of reasons, one being that it’s short.  This episode covers the tail end of our conversation where the Senator is getting weepy about people who have died this year in the music entertainment industry and he mentions Eddie Van Halen’s passing and I have be en working on an episode on just Eddie Van Halen which I will probably never finish.  The second reason, and this is the main reason, is that The Senator, in his fantasy world, mentions in passing that people consider him to be a well rounded person.  And I don’t let this go.  Most of  us think about our selves most of the time… what’s on my to-do list, what am I doing right now… what’s my level of hunger,  what should I eat… it’s  human nature to some degree.  Think of yourself for example… right now.  You may be driving or exercising or some other task.  Most podcasts are listened to while multitasking. But the Senator… in his delusion thinks that at some point in your day, your thinking of him.  That’s right.  You’re thinking of him and what a well rounded person he is.  Do you think that’s a preposterous notion?  I do.  My ego might think that someone is thinking harshly of me or kindly of me, but I have some common sense to snap out of that notion and realize: no one is thinking of me, nor should they.  That’s not low self esteem or high self esteem, it’s just a fact.  Most of us spend the majority of our day thinking about our self and we are doing, what we’ve done in the past or what we will be doing.  Human nature.  But the Senator thinks most people, at some point in the day, stop and marvel at what a well rounded person he is.  Like a very stable genius might.   We start talking about musicians and it turns into a circle jerk about all the concerts we’ve been to in our lives, truly disgusting.  Disgusting but relatively brief.   And we do mention a couple of documentaries that might be worth your time, especially if you like documentaries about musicians and the music industry.  Netflix has several and two of them are about music executives, Clive Davis and the other is about a guy named Clarence Avant whose career spans not only the music industry but film, television and politics as well.  It’s called “The Black Godfather”.   Again, we pick up the conversation with The Senator mentioning musicians that have passed away this year, af few of which include the great song writer John Prine, Charlie Pride, Hellen Reddy, Mac Davis, Charlie Daniels, Kenny Rogers, Little Richard, Bill Withers, jazz great Ellis Marsalis who is the father of 4 great jazz musicians including Wynton Marsalis and Branford Marsalis, the great drummer from Rush, Neal Peart and many others including as the senator mentions, Eddie Van Halen… Another music business based docu-series you might want to check out on Netflix is called “Song Exploder” in which they interview an artist and drill down into the elements of creating a particular song, from lyrics to sound design and production to the way it was received by listeners.  I don’t think this is a show you would necessarily watch every episode but that’s okay because each episode is a stand alone with a different artist in every episode.  I’ve only watched one so far and I thought it was really good.  The artist is Trent Reznor who doesn’t really fall smack dab into our demographic.  He was the frontman for a group in the early 90’s calle Nine Inch Nails.  What we would call Goth or a 90’s version of punk rock without the punk rock tempo.  You know, dark suicidal teen angst stuff.  Real wholesome stuff.  Every generation has it right?  Those teen years where no one understands you and you’re questioning why you were put on this planet and no one gets it.  You know, a good old ego trip.  I never outgrew mine.  As I said in the last episode, for me, it was Karen Carpenter and "Goodbye To Love".  I’ll put this song up against any teen angst in any generation… from the Who to The Sex Pistols to the Clash to… Nirvana!  I mean, they named their band Nirvana for Christ’s sake.  That’s a happy name!  I think Mr. Reznor would agree about the that Carpenters song.  And by the way, Trent Reznor was able to move past those feelings that many youths feel.  He’s won an academy award for best original score in the movie the Social Network.   Scraps: Island of Misfit Toys - Conan O’brien | YouTube  Carpenters Goodbye To Love - The Carpenters | YouTube

He has performed with many jazz, Latin, World music, World fusion, Afro-Cuban, and rock bands as a touring, session recording, and full-time player. Reyes is known for his fusion of many of the world's percussion techniques, including the ability to play a drum set with his hands in addition to the traditional use of drumsticks.   It's said that he can "sound like a drummer and a percussionist at the same time". He is well known as a long-term member of Santana, and a member of Chicago as the percussionist from 2012—2018 and the drummer since 2018.  Walfredo Reyes Jr. was born on December 18, 1955 in Havana, Cuba. He's a third generation musician in a prolific professional musical lineage on both sides of his family, including several globally notable percussion experts. His father is percussionist Walfredo Reyes, Sr.; one brother is World music percussionist Daniel de los Reyes (also with Chicago); another brother is actor Kamar de los Reyes; and his grandfather is trumpeter and Cuban orchestral organizer, Walfredo de los Reyes II. Reyes has had a lifelong interest in the music of Chicago Transit Authority, now known as Chicago. He says that the band's debut album, Chicago Transit Authority, is the first album that he had ever purchased as a youth with his own money. The following passage is written by Rick Van Horn: “Few drummers playing today can successfully combine the rich history of Latin, Afro-Cuban and World Percussion with the drum set.  For Walfredo Reyes, Jr., fusing the two disciplines has been his driving passion. In fact, by blazing this path, Reyes has challenged the technical levels of our instrument. Born in Cuba, raised in Puerto Rico, and culminating his musical style in the U.S., Wally (Walfredo Jr.) learned the traditions from the master, his father Walfredo Sr. "He married those principles with his love of the drum set, coming up with his own truly global rhythmic style. Simply put, Wally is able to sound like a drummer and a percussionist at the same time. Add blistering chops and a penchant for playing unusual patterns to the mix, and you have only a small idea of what this man can do." Not surprisingly, this one-man percussion show has gathered an impressive list of gigs over the years, including touring and/or recording with: - Carlos Santana, Traffic - Steve Winwood - Jackson Browne - Celia Cruz - Gloria Estefan - David Lindley - Ricki Lee Jones - Richard Marx - Sergio Mendes - Smokey Robinson - Robbie Robertson- Joe Sample - Boz Scaggs- Christina Aguilera - Ricky Martin - Johnny Hallyday - Khaled - Lindsey Buckingham - Chicago - And many others Because of his versatility, Walfredo is one of the most in demand musicians in the world today. This week the boys welcome back their smart friend Dr. Sam Gibbons. Sam is not actually a doctor, but compared to Kyle and Matt, well, he's a rocket surgeon. As usual, they cover a range of subjects, including Matt and Sam's experimentation with some crazy new experimental drugs, why Trump will most likely win in 2020, and the Iran thing. They also say a sad farewell to one of the Gods or Rock, Neal Peart of RUSH.

Het jaar 2020 is begonnen en het cijfer twee speelt hierin een belangrijke rol, zoals ook in deze podcast. Je hoort blues- & rootsmuziek waarin 'Two' centraal staat. Denk aan Lesson or Two (Monti Amundson) of Two of Us (Beatles). Verder gedenken we met het getal "2112" en de hieraan gerelateerde compositie het overlijden van de legendarische Rush' drummer, filosoof en tekstschrijver Neal Peart, een van de meest invloedrijke muzikanten in de rockhistorie.
