Google has a long history of putting customers first, thinking about the long-term, and being design-centric. Those values are part of the core product culture and help define how many products get built and go to market. In this episode, Neha and Kyle discuss product management processes and practices, talking to customers frequently, and establishing a product vision. Launching at scale is also very different. Google starts with the product vision, strategy and roadmap. They then break these down into OKRs and do customer research to create the PRDs and eventually the UX design for an MVP for development. Neha BansalNeha is the Head of Merchant Growth and Monetization for B2B Commerce at Google, where she is leading efforts to build the next $1B+ B2B business (zero to one product) for the company. She has worked at Google for ~5 years and has led various products in the Ads and Analytics space. She was the lead Product Manager (PM) for Google Analytics Intelligence. In this position, Neha oversaw the launch of Google Analytics 4 Search and Insights, a tool millions of businesses use to make the best marketing decisions that help them grow. She has also spearheaded many diversity and inclusion initiatives relating to hiring at Google, which have resulted in the elimination of unnecessary requirements in the PM hiring process for interns across the company. Before joining Google, Neha worked at Essex Product Consulting, where she helped Fortune 500 financial services companies build products that increased their bottom line by $50B+. She has 11+ years of experience as a PM and has guided many newly minted PMs in reaching their career goals.Links from the Show:LinkedIn: Neha BansalBooks: Hangry - A journey of GrubHub by Mike EvansThe Cold Start Problem by Andrew ChenGrowth Hacking Marketing by Ryan HolidayOther Links:Product Management Course - https://forms.gle/kS7tSL2LwXZZdaUXA Bio Link: https://bio.link/nehabansalMore by Kyle:Follow Product by Design and Kyle on TwitterFollow Product Thinking on Twitter and TikTokSign up for Kyle's Product Thinking Newsletter for more updates.Kyle's writing on MediumProduct by Design on MediumLike our podcast, consider Buying Us a Coffee or supporting us on Patreon

As we began our exploration into retail and the so-called B2B commerce platforms, we kept asking about the nature of last-mile retail. Why is it so fragmented? And can we expect retail consolidation? In this episode, we explore why retail looks the way that it does in African markets, and how B2B commerce platforms are working to empower retailers in the context of the way in which last-mile retail works to meet the demands of their customers, the mass-market consumers across the continent. These platforms aggregate demand at the fragmented last mile, to ensure that products not only get to consumers but get to consumers more efficiently, with the aim to ultimately reduce the costs of goods, which, as we talked about last episode, are disproportionately expensive in African markets.[05:12] - Why is retail in Africa so fragmented? As Twiga Foods' Peter Njonjo explains, it's largely due to the rate of population growth in urban cities across the continent.[07:42] - How are B2B commerce platforms attempting to provide solutions for retailers in the context of massive fragmentation? We go on a journey of discovery with ZUMI's William McCarren.[14:29] - So what exactly do B2B commerce platforms do, and how does retailer aggregation work? Sokowatch's Daniel Yu explains.[16:52] - And as a result, these platforms can offer embedded finance offerings to SMEs and retailers who may not have previously had access to credit.[22:07] - On the back of demand aggregation, platforms like Twiga Foods and Sokowatch are both needing to invest further upstream at the supply level of the value chain, as well.[31:30] - A retrospective conversation with The Flip's host, Justin Norman, and b-mic, Sayo Folawiyo. This season is sponsored by MFS Africa. All this season, we're exploring value chains. And in the payments value chain, no fintech has a wider reach on the continent than MFS Africa. Through their network of over 180 partners - MNOs, banks, NGOs, fintechs, and global enterprises - MFS Africa's API hub makes connects over 320 million mobile wallets across 30+ countries in Africa.
APAC is the B2B commerce capital of the world. Yet less than 1% of the addressable opportunity in industries like electronics, retail and FMCG is actually carded—presenting vast untapped potential for financial institutions. Why is so much being left on the table?

In this episode of the Futurum Tech Webcast, Interview Series, my guest John Bruno, the VP of Strategy for PROS, and I are having a conversation about the ever-changing state of B2B commerce. Today's business customers are expecting more and more from companies in terms of not just product quality, but also customer experience. And a large part of customer experience is providing compelling offers in a way that is fast, consistent, easy, and transparent, and offering relevant prices to make the ordering process an efficient, hassle free one. That's a lot to ask at the end of a global pandemic. The good news is that smart technology solutions exist that can help. Our discussion centered on the following: Trends in the industry, including our research in the 2020 B2B Digital Buyer's Journey, indicating that some 80% of B2B buyers have eliminated traditional buying cycles and 63% said their business and tech requirements would never go back to pre-pandemic levels. The shift in customer expectations over the course of the last eighteen months and how this has impacted what we're seeing in the digital buyer's journey. Challenges organizations face with their omnichannel ecommerce strategies. The nuances that organizations must navigate with their pricing strategies. The critical role that pricing plays in successful ecommerce strategy. How prices can prices be delivered so that buyers can have the best experience possible transacting via eCommerce The shift by PROS to SaaS offerings as part of their platform and how PROS Smart Price Optimization and PROS Smart Configure Price Quote are being used by savvy customers. John shared some customer success stories as part of our conversation, illustrating the PROS platform in action and the specific ROI customers using pricing optimization technology are realizing.
