The Vet Alumni Podcast w/ Tek & Prem

Tek & Prem discuss the Eagles Super Bowl expectations and the product they have put on the field through 12 games in 2024. Nick Sirianni is a winner. Vic Fangio has gotten the most out of a young and hungry defensive unit. Jalen Hurts continues to be disrespected by the fanbase and nationally. A young Carolina Panthers team comes to town this Sunday for a 1 PM kickoff at the Linc, and while they have improved, recently, a Super Bowl contender at home should easily roll through them. The Lions are the NFC pace-setters but there is still a month of football to play and some challenging games on their schedule as the Eagles have a semi-cakewalk. Saquon Barkley is on a record rushing pace and the Eagles Defensive Line has been as dominant as we have seen in years. The Flyers are young, talented, and getting better at a rapid pace. The young sensation Michkov has been as advertised, and they play with a gritty energy as a unit. The Sixers are still a dumpster fire with stars who seemingly do not want to take the floor and compete.

Tyler Brown is a Special Teams Graduate Assistant at the University of Michigan. Tyler has been surrounded by elite kickers and punters for nearly 2 decades through his father, Randy Brown. Randy is the Special Teams Coach at the Baltimore Ravens. Tyler has been by his father's side while he coached NFL placekickers like, Jason Elam, David Akers, Billy Cundiff, Justin Tucker, Wil Lutz, and the list goes on. Tyler has learned from "The Wolfpack" which is the best specialist unit to ever be assembled in the NFL. The Wolfpack is made up of: kicker Justin Tucker, punter Sam Koch, and long snapper Morgan Cox. Tyler knows what it takes to earn a job, but also keep one, and win Championships like the Baltimore Ravens in 2012 capturing a Super Bowl. Tyler has implemented the experience gained from his mentorship under Randy to "the Wolverines" in Ann Arbor. In 3 seasons, numerous school records have been broken by Jake Moody and Quinn Nordin. Most importantly the system is in place, working like a well oiled engine. The inaugural episode of the Simple Kicking podcast covers the lessons Ty has learned from his specialists and he opens up on his techniques on coaching. His best advice comes on recruiting, and how kickers and punters can improve. For example, his specialists watch film on NFL kickers like Harrison Butler of the Kansas City Chiefs, and emulate their technique.

The 2018 NFL Draft is almost halfway home and Chris Trapasso and Ryan Wilson are joining Will Brinson to recap the second day of the draft. Fun fact: Wilson, a Steelers fan, owns an Oklahoma State sweatshirt for no reason other than it was $5 at TJ Maxx. Was it a SIGN? Maybe! Trapasso is huge on Mason Rudolph and James Washington, so they debate whether the picks were good for Pittsburgh. They also dive into the great second day for the Giants, David Akers destroying the Cowboys fans, whether or not the Colts had a good group of draft picks in the second round, if the Bears are helping Mitchell Trubisky, whether Josh Rosen is a winner already, what the Oakland Raiders are doing, how the Patriots are hiding their Jimmy G situation and much, much more. The Philadelphia Eagles have the best record in the NFL. Read that sentence again. The Birds are now 6-1 on the season. They are 3-0 in the NFC East. They are 5-0 in the NFC. They are in solid shape at this point in the season, and have handled adversity in amazing ways. The Washington Redskins were the latest in this midnight green highway when they came to Lincoln Financial Field and lost. After a rough first quarter, where the Eagles were cited with multiple penalties, negative yardage, and a Carson Wentz interception… all on the Eagles first possession of the game, they escaped with only a 3-0 deficit. In the second the Eagles outscored the Redskins 17-7, and barely looked back. We are seeing Wentz to continue to develop, take chances, and make miraculous escapes from the pocket. He is also taking a tough sack, and then throwing touchdown passes a play or two later. He’s a leader of this team, and the team is showing full support for what he is doing and backing him every step of the way. It’s the beginning of something amazing, and a 6-1 record is a great beginning. The Monday Night Football game also brought David Akers back for his induction into the Eagles Hall of Fame, as Akers is the highest scorer in the history of the team. He led an Eagles cheer  during his induction ceremony, and 70,000 fans cheered with him. Next is a home game with the San Francisco 49ers traveling east to play in Philly. The Niners have not won a game yet this season, but that can make them a dangerous prospect. We still do not see this as anything but a win for the Eagles, as the coaching staff and players do not take any team lightly, they know every game is a fight, and no opponent is weak. The negative that came out of the game is the Eagles lost two needed starters in Jason Peters and Jordan Hicks with injuries that ended their seasons. Both players are excellent in their positions and are starters for a reason. It’s a concern for us with having lost two more starters even before the halfway mark in the season.   James A McCormick IV is an NFL sports entertainment talent advisor and also a commercial real estate agent for Sperry Van Ness.  It is always a good idea to have more than one stream of income coming in.  James is not the first real estate professional that we have interviewed.  We also spoke with Susan Matthews who handles the residential real estate market What are some the things do we cover with James in this Listen Up Show.  James has deep ties in the commercial real estate market but he also earns from doing sports and entertainment.  I asked him about his time as league executive in the NFL national football league and his experience as a director of all player & talent marketing initiatives for the league; time at NFL films along with those struggles at Valley Forge military college.  For those who want to take a more passive role in real estate, there is a company called realtyshares that allows you to earn passive income in real estate. Our guest's stories are what really makes interviewing James so special.  He talks to us about his relationship with Troy Vincent the Executive Vice President of Operation for the NFL & the 2003 infamous Eagles NFC Championship year. So what are his motto's in life and what does he attribute to his success: be prepared, be Ready for the opportunity and always over deliver.  He built his own character at an early age from church, music and his family. He coined a phrase: outwork the work - for all the things that must be done you must be the last person standing.  Be your own visionary, knowing where you are going. Some key things to take away from the show: 1) Look within an introspective; 2) Center yourself to focus; 3) Master the key to executing on your ideas. He also recalls two great football story's the first is about NFL Films - Steve Sable, his mentor, Player Relations who has dealt with 80 producers, 12 networks: CBS, ESPN, HBO, NFL Network, the science of contacting current and former players, building trust and relationships, owners: Cris Carter & Bobby Taylor, when Brian Westbrook - returned a punt against the Giants and went on to win their next 9 games that season, Donovan McNab, Duce Staley Playoffs Green Bay Packers 4th and 26th at Lincoln Financial Field in Philadelphia, no timeouts with the clock at 1:12 seconds pass to Freddie Mitchell David Akers made a field goal went into overtime Brian Dawkins intercepted a pass by Brett Favre returned it 35 yards set up another field goal for David Akers giving Eagles win 20-17 sent Eagles to third straight NFC Championship Game but they lost to the Carolina Panthers.  It will be awesome to speak with him about the Eagles Super Bowl win this year.
