Chapter 1:A Brief Introduction of The Power of NowThe Power of Now is a spiritual guidebook written by Eckhart Tolle. It teaches readers how to live in the present moment and find inner peace and happiness. The central message of the book is that our thoughts about the past and future can create unnecessary stress and anxiety, and prevent us from experiencing true happiness and contentment.Tolle argues that by focusing on the present moment and embracing stillness and silence, we can become more aware of our true selves and access a deeper level of spirituality. Through meditation and mindfulness practices, we can learn to let go of negative thoughts and emotions, and cultivate a sense of peace and joy within ourselves.Overall, The Power of Now offers practical advice for those seeking to improve their mental health and well-being, and find meaning and purpose in life. Chapter 2:Eckhart Tolle-The Power of Now authorEckhart Tolle is a spiritual teacher and author of several books including "The Power of Now" and "A New Earth". He was born in Germany in 1948 and spent much of his life searching for meaning and purpose. After experiencing a profound spiritual awakening at the age of 29, he devoted himself to exploring the nature of consciousness and sharing his insights with others.Tolle's teachings are grounded in the idea that human suffering arises from our identification with our egoic minds, which are constantly ruminating on the past or projecting into the future. By cultivating present-moment awareness and learning to dis-identify from our thoughts, we can access a deeper dimension of consciousness that is characterized by peace, joy, and fulfillment.Tolle's work has had a significant impact on the spiritual landscape of the modern world, and his teachings have been embraced by people from all walks of life. Whether you're seeking to deepen your spiritual practice or simply looking for ways to live more fully in the present moment, Tolle's teachings offer practical guidance and inspiration.Chapter 3:5 Best Quotes By Eckhart Tolle1 "Realize deeply that the present moment is all you ever have."This quote highlights the importance of being present and mindful in the current moment. Tolle emphasizes the idea that the past and future are illusions, and the only thing that truly exists is the present.2 "The primary cause of unhappiness is never the situation but your thoughts about it."Tolle encourages people to examine their own thought patterns and realize that negative thoughts can often be the root cause of unhappiness. By changing one's thoughts and perspective, they can find more peace and joy.3 "Life will give you whatever experience is most helpful for the evolution of your consciousness."This quote reminds us that every experience, even difficult ones, can provide an opportunity for growth and learning. Tolle suggests that we should embrace these experiences instead of resisting or avoiding them.4 "To love is to recognize yourself in another."Tolle emphasizes the interconnectedness of all beings and suggests that love comes from recognizing oneself in others. By seeing ourselves in others, we can cultivate empathy and compassion.5 "Whatever the present moment contains, accept it as if you had chosen it."This quote encourages us to accept the present moment exactly as it is, instead of wishing for something different. By accepting the present moment, we can find inner peace and contentment.Chapter 4:The Power of Now on platformThe Power of Now is a book written by Eckhart Tolle that focuses on the importance of living in the present...

Psychologist Dr. Bruce P. from Los Angeles, California helps relate the works of Eckhart Tolle with the world of 12-Step recovery. Negative emotions are problems for many people but perhaps especially for addicts. AA co-founder Bill Wilson struggled with depression for many years after getting sober. His letter sharing his experience on the subject is in the Show Notes. Dr. Bruce explores the troubling world of emotions offering us a solution to our pain through accessing the Power of Now. Show Notes: Bill Wilson's 1953 letter on Emotional Sobriety Eckhart Tolle Key Quotes on Emotions: Pain is inevitable as long as you are identified with your mind. I am talking here primarily of emotional pain…Resentment, hatred, self-pity guilt, anger, depression, jealousy, and so on, even the slightest irritation, are all forms of pain. There are wo levels to your pain: the pain you create now and the pain from the past that still lives on in your mind and body. As long as you are unable to access the power of the Now, every emotional pain that you experience leaves behind a residue of past pain that lives on in you. It merges with the pain from the past, which was already there, and becomes lodged in your mind and body. This includes the pain you suffered as a child, caused by the unconsciousness of the world into which you were born. This accumulated pain is a negative energy field that occupies your mind and body. The emotional pain-body has two modes of being: dormant and active. It may be dormant 90 percent of the time. In a deeply unhappy person it can be active 10 percent of the time. Some people only experience it in certain situations such as intimate relationships, or situations linked with past loss or abandonment, physical or emotional hurt, and so on. Anything can trigger it, particularly if it resonates with a pain pattern from your past…even a thought or an innocent remark made by someone close to you can activate it. Some pain bodies are obnoxious but relatively harmless, like a child who won't stop whining. Others are vicious and destructive monsters. Some are physically violent, many more are emotionally violent. Some will attack people around you or close to you, while others may attack you, their host. Thoughts and feelings you have about your life then become deeply negative and self-destructive. The pain-body doesn't want you to observe it directly and see it for what it is. The moment you observe the pain-body, feel its energy within you, and take your attention into it, the identification is broken. A higher dimension of consciousness has come in, I call it Presence. You are now the witness or the watcher of the pain-body. You have found your innermost strength. Watch out for any sign of unhappiness in whatever form---it may be the awakening pain body. This can take the form of irritation, impatience, a somber mood, a desire to hurt, anger, rage, a need to have some drama in your relationship and so on. Catch it the moment it awakens from its dormant state. Focus attention on the feeling inside you. Know that it is the pain-body. Accept that is there. Don't think about it--don't let the feeling turn into thinking. Don't judge or analyze. Stay present and continue to be the observer of what is happening inside you. Allow the pain to be transmuted into peace. --- Support this podcast: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/fatherbillw/support

Psychologist Dr. Bruce P. from Los Angeles, California helps blend the works of Eckhart Tolle with the world of 12-Step recovery. Addicts aren't alone in struggling with relationships. Often, we search for and marry a prince or a princess thinking they'll save us only to see them before long turn into a frog – and sometimes even worse. Dr. Bruce explores the world of relationships offering us a way out through the Power of Now. Show Notes Eckhart Tolle Relationship Quotes: Unless and until you access the frequency of presence, all relationships, and particularly intimate relationships, are deeply flawed and dysfunctional.  They may seem perfect for a while, such as when you are “in love” but invariably that apparent perfection gets disrupted as arguments, conflicts, dissatisfaction and emotional or even physical violence occur with increasing frequency Love can turn into savage attack, feelings of hostility, of complete withdrawal of affection at the flick of a switch. And this is considered normal.  Relationships do not cause pain and unhappiness. They bring out the pain and unhappiness that is already in you. We use relationships or somebody to cover up our pain.  For love to flourish, the light of your presence needs to be strong enough so that you no longer get taken over by the thinker or emotional pain body and mistake them for who you are.  Can you change an addictive relationship into a true one? Yes, by intensifying your presence by taking your attention more deeply into the Now.  The greatest catalyst for change in a relationship is complete acceptance of your partner as he or she is, without needing to judge or change them in any way.  For presence to become deeply rooted, it must be tested in the fire of relationships.  Listening is the greatest thing you can do for your partner. Listening gives the other space to be.  Love as a continuous state is as yet very rare---as rare as conscious human beings. Brief and elusive glimpses of love, however, are possible, whenever there is a gap in the stream of mind.  Never before have relationships been as problematic and conflict-ridden as they are now. If you continue to pursue the goal of salvation through a relationship, you will be disillusioned again and again. But if you accept that the relationship is here to make you conscious instead of happy, then the relationship will offer you salvation, and you will be aligning yourself with the higher consciousness that wants to be born in this world.   Self Disclosure reference: https://www.encyclopedia.com/social-sciences-and-law/sociology-and-social-reform/sociology-general-terms-and-concepts/self-disclosure Your Body Doesn't Lie by John Diamond (pdf version) --- Support this podcast: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/fatherbillw/support

Psychologist Dr. Bruce P. from Los Angeles, California helps blend the works of Eckhart Tolle with the world of 12-Step recovery. Many addicts struggle to find a concept of a Higher Power that can work successfully for them. Step Two becomes easier when an elusive search for “a Power greater than ourselves” shifts to “accessing the Power of Now.” In this episode Dr. Bruce describes how the terms God and Now may be synonymous and how a simple shift in consciousness into the “fourth dimension of existence” may be more easily accessible than you THINK. In fact, not THINKING might speed things up considerably! Show Notes: The Power of Now by Eckhart Tolle / You may also be able to find free pdf versions online. You can meet Father Bill's dog Maggie around minute 56 or so. Here are the Tolle quotes used on this episode: 1. “The eternal present is the space within which your whole life unfolds. The Now is the only point that can take you beyond the limited confines of your mind. It is your only point of access into the timeless presence of God.” 2. “(When) the realm of Being, accessed through the portal of the Now, opens up, suddenly, a great stillness arises within you, an unfathomable peace. And within that peace, there is great joy.  And within that joy, there is love. And at the innermost core, there is the Sacred, that which cannot be named.” 3. “As soon as you honor the present moment, all unhappiness and struggle dissolve, and life begins to flow with joy and ease. When you act out of present moment awareness, whatever you do becomes imbued with a sense of quality, care, and love---even the most simple action.” 4. “When the compulsive striving away from the Now ceases, the joy of Being flows into everything you do. The moment your attention turns to the Now, you feel a presence, a stillness, a peace.” But the reverse is also true – is it not? – that when my compulsive thinking takes charge again and leads me away from the Now then I lose my connection with the Present Moment and I begin to feel restless, irritable, and discontent.  5. “An amazing realization is that in the present moment there is only what is, but there are no problems. And if your attention remains in the Now, you no longer inhabit a world of problems.” 6. “Being is accessible to you NOW as your own deepest self, your true nature. But don't seek to grasp it with your mind. Don't try to understand it. You can only know it when the mind is still. When you are present, when your attention is fully and intensely in the NOW, Being / (God) can be felt, but it can never be understood mentally.” --- Support this podcast: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/fatherbillw/support

Psychologist Dr. Bruce P. from Los Angeles, California helps blend the works of Eckhart Tolle with the world of 12-Step recovery. The Big Book tells us our “problem is in the Mind.” This episode takes a deep dive into the source of our compulsive thinking, first as it relates directly to physical addiction, but then as it traps us in a fearful state of separateness from God, from others, and from our True Selves. The Good News is escape is possible. Listen and start to find out HOW! 3 Quotes Related to THINKING from Eckhart Tolle that relates to "Unmanageable" thoughts and addiction: I would say about 80-90% of most people's thinking is not only repetitive and useless, but beacuase of its dysfunctional and negative nature, much of it is harmful. Observe your mind and you will find this to be true. This kind of cumpulsive thinking as actually an addiction. What characterizes an addiction? Quite simply this: you no longer feel nyou have the ability to stop. Every addiction arises from an unconscious refusal to face and move through your own pain. Every addiction atarts with pain and ends with pain. Whatever you're addicted to (includes all involuntary compulsive mental-emotional habits and reactive patterns) you are using to cover up your pain. Unmanageable (compulsive) thoughts related to everything else: The more you are identified with your thinking, your likes and dislikes, judgments and interpretations, which is to say the less present your are as the wathching consciusness, the stronger the emotional charge (pain) will be whether you are aware of it or not. The greatest obstacle to experiencing peace and the radiant joy of being is identification with your mind, which causes thought to become compulsive. Not to be able to stop thinking is a dreadful affliction... this incessant mental noise prevents you from finding the realm of inner stillness, peace, and joy. The compulsive thinker, which means almost everyone, lives in a state of separateness, in an insanely complex world of continuous problems and conflict. Read more... It's a beautiful episode this week as Kris connects with one of her mentors, Kirra Sherman. They first talk about how life pulls us in different ways emotionally throughout our human journey, and how we can learn to face both the joyful and negative heartbreaking things with courage and an open heart. Kris and Kirra talk about how setting aside just 5 minutes a day to feel your feelings can have a profound effect on your whole life, what a pain body is, and how carrying around feelings of trauma can have an impact on us that we may not even be aware of.    Key Takeaways: [10:23] The importance of letting go of your projections of how things should be and accepting reality.  [10:42] We don't have to call it spiritual for anybody, we could call it “okayness”. [14:20] When you start doing things that matter to you, your life as you know it may fall apart, and that's okay. Kirra talks about someone that did the work and healed their marriage, but sometimes things can also go the other way.  [18:57] What are some ways that we can learn to be open in sitting with discomfort?  [24:29] Putting the awareness on the discomfort and on the feelings is life changing.  [34:16] When do you know that you have reached enlightenment? Is it real? [34:22] There's no such thing as unworthiness.  [39:43] When you see through the story, the less you react to it. [45:09] What really matters is your heart. One way to get into the habit of checking in with your heart is really asking yourself if this will matter years from now, and what your true feelings are in the moment.  [50:33] Happiness is not a fix, it's a change.   Quotes: [16:42] “Things that you worry about are the things that in your mind are so important, become less important, because what really becomes important are the things that truly matter.” - Kirra [34:22] “There's no such thing as unworthiness.” - Kirra  [39:43] “When you see through the story, the less you react to it.” - Kirra  [50:33] “Happiness is not a fix, it's a change.” - Kirra    Sponsored By: ChildCare Education Institute (CCEI) Use code CCSC5 to claim a free course!   Mentioned in This Episode: Kris Murray The Child Care Success Company The Child Care Success Academy The Child Care Success Summit   Childcare Education Institute: use code CDARenewal22 to get $100 off your renewal Eckhart Tolle The Power of Now A New Earth Kirra Sherman  The Amir Zoghi App  Amir Zoghi

In this special solo episode, Kris dives into her recent experience while attending Eckhart Tolle's “The Depths of Being” retreat, with his amazing wife and teaching partner Kim. Kris dives deep into learning to let go of outcomes and expectations and shares some key learnings and takeaways while embarking on this spiritual journey in the beautiful land of Maui, Hawaii. She opens up about some personal changes as well, and what she has learned about just letting go and relaxing into what is throughout the process. At the end, Kris shares a few easy ways that you can practice becoming more present in the moment and how doing so can help both your business and those around you, while bringing you a great amount of peace.   Key Takeaways: [7:23] Kris talks about the five-day retreat (and overall eight-day trip) with the famed Eckhart himself, and his beautiful wife, spiritual teacher, and creator Kim Eng. [12:44] Kris dives into the first topic: intuition and how to listen to your inner knowing. [14:44] The universe actually wants to bring you whatever you want. You just have to learn how to manifest it. [20:34] We need to remember that we are human beings, and not always human doings. [25:45] The more you let the little triggers build, the more emotional stress and pain you are going to have, and the less happy you're going to be. [27:57] What are a “pain body” and a “pain body attack”? [34:04] It is a lifelong practice to see what triggers you and reflect on the pain instead of just reacting. What are the people, places, and situations teaching you? [38:38] The practice is about coming back to a place of neutrality. To come back to a place where you're in a space of openness and acceptance and you're not resistant to the “is-ness” that is. [41:33] Kris talks about the ending of her personal relationship and the lessons she is practicing about letting go of attachment and expectations and going more with the flow. She opens up about the energetic shift that came with this practice. [42:50] Once you let go of your attachment, the resistance usually goes away, and you get back to neutral. [45:07] Notice where your mind is at this moment. Are you in the present moment? [49:44]  Kris got a message from the divine during a moment of stillness on the yoga mat. Frank Daly and Mike Kitlas cover the wonderful teachings of Eckhart Tolle in this week's episode of Perspective Shift.  After struggling with depression for many years, Tolle found a deep inner peace within himself by noticing that he was both the mind and the observer of the mind. He explored his spiritual experiences deeper through studying different religions, such as staying at a Buddhist monastery. He has held many lectures where he speaks on his findings as well as authored books on his teachings, such as The Power of Now: A Guide to Spiritual Enlightenment and A New Earth: Awakening to Your Life's Purpose. We do not own the rights to the video clips used in this episode. They have been used fairly in this video under YouTube's Fair Use Policy. In this episode, Adam and Budi speak with Detroit Public Theatre's Managing Artistic Director Sarah Clare Corporandy. An original founding member of DPT in 2015, Sarah Clare is a Michigan (Ypsilanti) native. After moving about the country to find the best places and ways to create live theater, she was called back home to Detroit (first figuratively, later literally). After training in both theater and voice at Hope College, she transitioned to the administrative end of art-making and received an MFA in arts administration from Wayne State University's Hilberry Theatre program, cutting her professional teeth with Breathe Art Theatre Project (with DPT cofounder Courtney Burkett), Barrington Stage Co., and New York Stage and Film. Sarah Clare acted as Managing Director of Philadelphia's Pig Iron Theatre Co. from 2008-2009 (Isabella, Pay Up!, and the Pig Iron collaboration with NYC's Public Theatre on Suzan-Lori Parks' 365 Days/365 Plays). For 13 years since then, she has worked as Company Manager (3 years) and Managing Director (10 years) of Chautauqua Theatre Co. in Western New York, where she was co-leader through two artistic leadership transitions and was the line producer for the Chautauqua Institution's innovative inter-arts collaborations, The Romeo and Juliet Project, and Go West!, which presented narratives through cohesive experiences of symphonic and vocal music, live theatre, dance, visual art, and literature. At DPT, Sarah Clare initiated the commission of Noah Haidle's Broadway-bound Birthday Candles. She was lead producer on the televised remounts of From Broadway to Obscurity (Eric Gutman) and No Child… (Nilaja Sun), in collaboration with two PBS stations, in Buffalo, NY and Detroit, MI, and with both DPT and Chautauqua Theater Co. She has acted as the lead on DPT's move to a new building, heads up strategic planning for the company, and shares artistic leadership with Sarah, Courtney, and Dominique.  Overall, she specializes in creating opportunities for artists on projects close to their hearts and bringing them before audiences who can share in and gain something from their offerings.Mentioned in this episode:Eckhart Tolle The Power of NowCourtney BurkettSarah WinklerDominique MorriseauWe See You W.A.TTCG ConferenceSCADTo submit a question, please visit http://www.speakpipe.com/theatreofothers for voice recording or submit an email to podcast@theatreofothers.com Messages may be quoted by name unless the writer stipulates otherwiseMusic credit: https://www.purple-planet.comAdditional compositions by @jack_burmeisterSupport the show

The Power of Now by Eckhart Tolle teaches us that every minute you spend worrying about the future or regretting the past is a minute lost, because really all you have to live in is the present, the now, and gives you actionable strategies to start living every minute as it occurs. Eckhart published The Power of Now in 1997, which eventually went on to become a New York Times bestseller after Oprah Winfrey fell in love with it and recommended it.

I want to understand myself first, even though I'm attentive to others as well, so that if I know what works for me, it might also work for someone else. I'm interested in religion, philosophy, psychology, spiritual modalities, from which I seek the gold. I look for what works, so that I can use it for the benefit of all. We, as humans, are tool-using creatures, and we are really interested only in what we can use. It is the same with information. You have it already. You just can’t feel it because your mind is making too much noise. In essence there is and always has been only one spiritual teaching. The secret of life is to die before you die, and find that there is no death. What at this moment is lacking? The Power of Now is your only point of access into the timeless and formless. Past and future veil God from our sight, burn up both of them with fire. Break mind patterns that have dominated human life for eons and awaken consciousness from the dream of matter, form, and separation. The ending of time. Karma Yoga: non-attachment to the fruit of your action. Everything is honored, but nothing matters. Forms are born and die, yet you are aware of the eternal underneath the forms. You know that “nothing real can be threatened.” Consciousness manifesting as form, just like in dreams. Lila: Divine Play of the Absolute Dig deep until you reach the rock, then build your house, so it is not swept away by the floods. Having access to the formless is truly liberating. Energy = formless form World dissolves into unmanifested, unmanifested takes on form of world as energy. Use your body as a portal to enter the unmanifested to stay connected with source at all times. Formless = silence between musical notes (form) “Overcome the world.” “Cross over to the other shore.” Conscious immortality. Misfit/Neurodiverse/Neuroatypical = Advantage Abiding presence, unchanging deep stillness, uncaused joy beyond good and bad. This is the joy of Being, the peace of God. The moment you completely accept your non-peace, your non-peace becomes transmuted into peace. Anything you accept fully will get you there, will take you into peace. This is the miracle of surrender. As more humans awaken, the word ‘work’ is going to disappear from our vocabulary, and perhaps a new word will be created to replace it like PLAY. https://eckharttolle.com Book ► http://bit.ly/TollePowerOfNow Our First Book ► https://highlevelperception.com Welcome ✌

He set up the firm back in 2016 having paid his dues in the Investment Banking world at UBS and Deutsche Bank, and in the Management Consulting world with Oliver Wyman. You’ll often see Ben quoted for his market views on Bloomberg, CNBC, and Reuters. Ben is also heavily involved in the rapidly growing Fintech scene here in Asia and just a few days prior to recording this he was elected as the new Chairman of the Fintech Association of Hong Kong. The secret sauce that makes Ben unique is that come Friday night he leaves the boardroom, swaps his suit and tie for a t-shirt and jeans, and performs on stage as a Stand-up Comedian. He is a regular headliner at Comedy Clubs all across Asia, won the 2017 Hong Kong International Comedy Festival and has opened for a number of big international comedians on their Asian tours, including Russell Howard, Kevin Bridges and Tom Segura. One of my favourite sayings is that clarity of speech, reflects clarity of thought, and in that regard, this episode is an absolute masterclass. We touch on many topics including:Ben's philosophy on leadership and building successful teams The importance of doing what you loveThe sacrifices involved in running your own business His worst ‘bomb’ on stage as a comedian How humour gives him an advantage in the workplace How watching his father live out his dream was the best lesson he ever got in what it means to live a successful life.Links:Benjamin Quinlan on LinkedInQuinlan & Associates Comedian & Speaker ProfileTEDx - Creativity at your feetTEDx - Supercharged FearHome of the Podcast: www.michaelxcampion.com IG: @playingtheinnergame@michaelxcampionJoin the weekly newsletter www.michaelxcampion.com/subscribeOther mentions:Eckhart Tolle - The Power of Now

Pre-birth planning, spiritual lessons and the importance of giving and receiving love, with guest Robert Schwartz. “Understand how courageous you are for planning a lifetime on earth, and coming into body and then executing your life plan.” ----more---- On the show today, Robert Schwartz, hypnotist, speaker, and author. Rob joined me to discuss pre-birth planning, what it's all about if we all have a life plan and what the point of all this actually is.  About Rob Schwartz – A personal turning point In 2003, my search took a new and surprising turn when I decided to consult with a medium. Although I had a strong belief in God, I had never (as far as I knew) directly experienced the metaphysical. I researched mediums and selected someone with whom I felt comfortable. My session with the medium took place on May 7, 2003. I remember the exact date because on that day my life changed. I told the medium very little about myself, describing my circumstances only in the most general terms. She explained that each of us has spirit guides, nonphysical beings with whom we plan our lives prior to incarnation. Through her I was able to speak with mine. They knew everything about me—not only what I had done but also what I had thought and felt. For example, they referred to a specific prayer I had said to God some five years earlier. At a particularly difficult time I had prayed, “God, I can't do this alone. Please send help.” My guides told me that additional nonphysical assistance had been provided. “Your prayer was answered,” they said. I was astounded. Eager to understand the suffering I had experienced, I asked my guides about the major challenges I had faced. They explained that I had planned these challenges before birth—not for the purpose of suffering, but for the growth that would result. I was shaken by this information. My conscious mind knew nothing of pre-birth planning, yet intuitively I sensed truth in their words. Although I did not realize it at the time, my session with the medium triggered a profound spiritual awakening for me. I would later understand that this awakening was really a remembering—a remembering of who I am as an eternal soul and, more specifically, what I had planned to do on Earth.   Mentioned in the show Vipassana Meditation https://www.dhamma.org/en/schedules/schbhumi  Eckhart Tolle – The Power of Now https://www.bookdepository.com/Power-Now-Eckhart-Tolle/9780340733509 Your Soul's Gift https://www.yoursoulsplan.com/index.php/books/books-2 Your Soul's Plan https://www.yoursoulsplan.com/index.php/books/books-3 Rob's Events https://www.yoursoulsplan.com/index.php/events   The host of The Afterlight is Lauren Grace For the last 15 years, Lauren has worked in a variety of related fields, including media, sales, events and marketing. As you might already know, mindfulness is a way to be in the present and only the present. You focus on what you are doing or thinking at this moment, without worrying about the future or dwelling on the past. Mindfulness can be used for so many things, from helping you to lose weight, to re-gaining your focus on important work projects. It is really important for your mental and emotional health, as well as your physical health. One specific method of being more mindful is through meditation. The two things combine to allow you to be a happier, more fulfilled and more balanced person. Here are some things to know about mindfulness meditation.    Featured Product Ageless Brain Delivers powerful natural compounds scientifically shown to grow new brain cells and BOOST memory power Rejuvenates and re-energizes your brain cells – and helps your brain stay YOUNG as you age Puts an end to brain fog… embarrassing senior moments… forgetfulness… trouble concentrating… and more! Promotes a calm, focused mind and balanced mood Supports healthy inflammation levels Made with organic herbal ingredients sourced from the Amazon rainforest   * * *   What is Mindfulness Meditation? First of all, it can help to learn a little more about what mindfulness meditation is and how it can help you. The following information is going to give you more insight into what meditating in a mindful way means and of course the different ways it can help you. You now know that mindfulness is a way of being, thinking, and living in the moment. If you are eating a meal, you are focused only on what you are eating, including the textures, flavors, and sensations. You aren’t watching TV or thinking about your budget meeting. You only focus on your meal. This practice can also be used with meditation. Mindfulness is not easy to pick up right away, especially during a busy day when your negative thoughts and stressful situations creep up in your mind constantly. This is why you should start by also practicing meditation.   How to Start Meditating Instead of trying to stress yourself out with both mindfulness and meditation at the same time, start slow. Just start with basic meditating. Find yourself a quiet space where you can really focus on the meditation. This can be anywhere from your bedroom at night before bed to even the shower or when you are going for a walk. If you can do it at home where you can sit comfortably with your eyes closed, that can be helpful. Start your meditation by focusing on your breathing and only thinking about the breathing. Focus on taking in each breath and letting it out. Think about your lungs, and not about your next meal or all the appointments you have next week. This simple act will help you to retrain your mind to think about just one thing, which is the essence of both meditation and mindfulness.   Using Mindfulness With Meditation Now that you have a good introduction to meditation, you can start using mindfulness. Once you get used to sitting quietly and trying to clear your mind of all those nagging thoughts and only think about your breathing, you can then start with the practice of mindfulness. This is when you are only concerned with the present moment. Once you have the breathing practice down, choose just one thought to focus on. Only one thing happening in this current moment. This is a good introduction into how mindfulness meditation works.   The Benefits of Mindfulness Meditation Before discussing more tips on mindfulness meditation, it helps to know why you should start this practice. There are actually many advantages to mindfulness meditation, from lowering your stress to helping with your mind’s focus, memory, and concentration. Mindfulness meditation can also help your physical health, which is something many people are not fully aware of. Take a look at some of these benefits of mindfulness meditation.   Stress Reduction One of the top reasons people like mindfulness meditation is because it helps reduce their stress. When you start meditating and living in the present with mindfulness, you learn how to think about things differently. It isn’t going to magically get rid of all those stressful situations and people in your life, but it helps you to deal with them better. You develop a healthy coping mechanism where you understand and appreciate things for what they are, and stop dwelling on how much worse they could be. It truly is remarkable how helpful this is for your overall stress and anxiety.   Improved Memory If you struggle with memory issues, this might be more to do with how much you are trying to keep track of in your mind. Memory issues are often linked to negative thoughts and overthinking. When you start the bad habit of overthinking, it tends to lead to over-analyzing things as well. This is only going to make everything more stressful and frustrating for you. If you can start mindfulness meditation, you will notice that you are focusing on one thing at a time, so your memory starts to improve as well.   Better Focus and Concentration Other cognitive functions can also be improved with meditation, including your focus and concentration. Once again, you are changing the way you think about things, developing positive attitudes like acceptance, appreciation and gratitude, patience, and nonjudgment. This in turn allows you to focus on one thing at a time, whatever is happening in the present, instead of trying to think about too many things at a time. With proper mindfulness and meditation, you are learning how to adapt to everything around you, let go of the negative emotions, and appreciate all of the positivity in your life. It is very fulfilling and improves your overall focus in the long run. This can help with work, school, and anything else you are trying to achieve.   Lower Blood Pressure As far as physical benefits, the first is lowering your blood pressure. This comes from a lot of the mental and emotional benefits, therefore lowering your blood pressure. Things like stress, anxiety, and lack of focus can overwhelm your mind, and actually have a negative effect on your body. When you start meditating and using mindfulness in your daily life, you will feel less stressed and overwhelmed, which can then cause your blood pressure to get a rest.   Weight Loss Don’t forget about the benefits for eating and weight loss! Mindfulness isn’t just done in a meditation session, but throughout the day. By living more in the present, you can also focus on what is good for your body, starting with mindful eating. This is when you really think about your food choices and indulge in each meal, instead of being distracted and just grabbing any snack without thinking twice about it. Through mindful eating, you learn to notice the signs of actual hunger and not boredom or feeding your emotions. Over time, you will notice that it changes your eating habits and ultimately leads to weight loss.   Future Success Finally, all of these benefits can help you future. You become more successful by being less stressed and more focused on the task at hand. You stop trying to multi-task and become a unitasker, which really does wonders for you. All of these things you learn through mindfulness meditation are going to help you in the future.   How to Start Doing Mindfulness Meditation You have already have a brief introduction into what mindfulness meditation is and how it works, but let’s go a little deeper into the practice. You will also learn some helpful method, tips, and tricks that can help you if you are new to meditation.   Where to Meditate As mentioned briefly in the previous section, you need to start by choosing the right place for your meditation. Schedule a time of the day when nobody else is home or when you have few distractions. Wait until the kids are at school or asleep, your significant other is otherwise engaged, and let the dogs outside for a bit. Every little distraction, from a knock on the door to a cell phone ringing is going to break you out of the meditation. You only need about 15-20 minutes to start with. For now, try to choose a place in the house where you can sit quietly and close your eyes. Eventually, meditation can be anywhere you find it relaxing, from driving to work to going for a walk or hike. However, right now you want to practice with your eyes closed, so choose your bedroom, living room, or even on your patio if it is quiet and peaceful enough. Sit in your location with your eyes close and in a relaxing position. It should be a position where you will not be fidgeting or moving around constantly. Keep your back straight and hands relaxed.   What to Focus On Once you have gotten into the right position, you can start with your mindfulness meditation. Traditional meditation calls for clearing your mind completely, so that is a good first step. Focus on your breathing first to clear your mind of all distractions, stressful situations, plans, and schedules. Put your to-do list away and watch your negative feelings and thoughts float away. Once you are only thinking about your breathing, your mind is clear, and you can start the mindfulness portion. This is when you are focusing on just one thing, one thought, one scenario. You are being mindful about the present, so it can be as simple as thinking about the act of meditation or a scent you smell in the air. What you focus on is not as important as the act of meditation to relax your body and mind.   Find a Singular Object It can also help to focus on a single object with your eyes opened or closed. If you want to close your eyes, get an object that is simple to hold in your hand. This can be anything that is small and easy to feel in your hands. You will close your eyes and hold this object, touching its details and curves, focusing on the sensations, shape, and size, and not on any other thoughts that try to creep in. You can also choose a visual object, such as focusing on a painting on the wall or placing an object right in front of you. Look at the colors, textures, and design of that object. What you are doing is training your mind to release all other thoughts and focus on one singular thing.   Be Patient Remember to always be patient. Both mindfulness and meditation will take practice and is not something you are going to pick up right away. People need time to get used to clearing their minds and having a singular focus. You have lived all these years trying to multi-task, do everything at once, think about every little thing that could go wrong, making plans and schedules and to-do lists. It takes time just to relax and be in the moment, so make sure you are patient with yourself.   Incorporate Essential Oils With Meditation As a final note, we want to discuss using essential oils in combination with meditation. This can be really helpful, especially for beginners. You are not only going to focus on the scents to help with mindfulness, but certain scents can actually help you relax even further.   Good Essential Oils to Use You can use any oils you want, but there are some that are good for relaxing and calming the mind. Here is a list of some essential oils to try out, and the reasons why they are so helpful.   Lavender One of the best and most relaxing essential oil scents to start with is lavender. Lavender is perfect for stress relief, lowering anxiety, and helping your mind and body to fully relax. You will feel calm with a scent that isn’t too strong or overbearing.   Lemon You can also try lemon, which is especially good when you are doing the mindfulness meditation in the morning or when you want to be a little more alert. This is a fresh scent that also helps with improving your mood, reducing allergies, and improving your respiratory system.   Peppermint Peppermint is a bit of a stronger scent, but you can dilute it even more or put a little less into your oil diffuser. Peppermint is good for oral health, respiratory support, and better focus and concentration. Like lemon, it is also a great mood lifter.   Rose Rose is a light floral scent that will calm and relax your mind, while also helping your body to relax. This is good for beginners, and can easily be mixed with some of the other scents.   * * * Deeper Dive Resources   Eckhart Tolle – The Power of Now https://www.eckharttolle.com/power-of-now-excerpt/   The Art of Effective Listening https://www.forbes.com/sites/womensmedia/2012/11/09/10-steps-to-effective-listening/#ee7333138918   Organixx Article: Moving Meditation: A Meditation Practice for Those Who Just Can’t Slow Down https://organixx.com/moving-meditation/   Organixx Article: 13 Powerful Proven Health Benefits of Meditation https://organixx.com/health-benefits-of-meditation/   Organixx Article: 5 Reasons Behind Emotional Eating (& Tips on How to Eat Mindfully) https://organixx.com/emotional-eating/

Aubrey Marcus is the CEO and founder of Onnit, a company dedicated to human optimization and peak performance. I like what Aubrey had to say because it's not just what you'd typically think of when you hear the words "optimize" or "peak performance." He says, "You gotta live a life that's worth living. Live a life that's well-rounded, balanced and includes the things like having a glass of wine or smoking a joint and making love to your lover, playing with your dog and hanging out, but also being extremely productive, also meditating, also eating right, also training like a beast." And his philosophy is backed up by clinical studies. He really has the science to prove his theories. So I'm testing them all.  Show Notes Onnit Own the Day Own Your Life by Aubrey Marcus Alpha Brain   Also Mentioned The Joe Rogan Experience Kettlebells My interview with Rich Roll My interview with Freeway Rick Ross (the infamous drug dealer and now philanthropist)  Alpha Brain  Ginko Huperzia Serrata  Acetylcholine system (responsible for memory, sharpness, focus) Gaba Dopamine Serotonin Boston Center for Memory (this is where Aubrey did his clinical trials for Alpha Brain) Aubrey's interview with Tim Ferriss Aubrey's interview with Gary Vaynerchuk Tim Ferris' video working out with kettlebells  Brody Miller Rodger Huerta The steel mace The steel club Zeitgeber (the external cues that help sync your circadian rhythm) The Human Charger (light emitting earbuds)  Wim Hof method Norepinephrine Chronic stress Snus (a Swedish tobacco company)  The Four Agreements: A Practical Guide to Personal Freedom (A Toltec Wisdom Book) by Don Miguel Ruiz The Mastery of Love: A Practical Guide to the Art of Relationship: A Toltec Wisdom Book by Don Miguel Ruiz You Are the Placebo: Making Your Mind Matter by Dr. Joe Dispenza A New Earth: Awakening to Your Life's Purpose by Eckhart Tolle The Power of Now by Eckhart Tolle Practicing the Power of Now: Essential Teachings, Meditations, and Exercises From The Power of Now by Eckhart Tolle Island by Aldous Huxley Sex at Dawn by Cacilda Jethá and Christopher Ryan   I write about all my podcasts! One of today’s most influential spiritual teachers shares his youthful experience of depression and despair — suffering that led him to his own spiritual breakthrough, and ultimately, freedom and peace of mind. He also explicates his view of what he calls “the pain body” — the accumulated emotional pain that may influence us and our relationships in negative ways. And Tolle talks about spirit and God, and what those concepts mean to him.
