Can You Actually Have It All In A Stepfamily? Today I'm sharing an interview I did for this year's Stepmom Summit because it's the kind of story that we don't get to hear enough of as stepmoms: a stepmom and mom who not only get along, but are real-life friends, work together, and have made co-parenting virtually seamless for their kids. I'm talking with Emmy Award-winning journalist Catt Sadler and Digital Dept. CEO Sarah Boyd. These women are each superstars professionally, and both vowed to put the kids in the stepfamily first. It's a wonderful story of how the dynamics can come together in a loving and positive way. About Catt: Catt Sadler is a three time-Emmy winning journalist, renowned for her work on E! Entertainment, where she spent more than a decade contributing to E! News, E! News Weekend, Daily Pop, Live From E! and hosting various network specials. She's also been a fixture on the red carpet covering high-caliber events and interviewing celebrities during awards season. She has been co-host of the Vanity Fair Oscars Party show for the last several years. Today, she is the host and EP of her weekly podcast: CATT SADLER Now. Catt has appeared on The View, The Talk, The Tamron Hall Show, and many other programs. After choosing to leave E! over a wage gap issue and receiving an outpouring of support, Catt became a prominent voice for the equal pay movement. She has spent much of her time contributing to the cause by taking part in the LA Women's March, speaking at the Equal Pay Day rally at City Hall in New York, and starring in LUNA Bar's Equal Pay Day campaign. Catt was also selected for the NYDJ Denim campaign highlighting women leading change. She starred in the SECRET deodorant “I'd Rather Get Paid” initiative and MM.Le.Fleur's “What Are You Made Of?” fashion campaign. In 2021 she was featured with a diverse group of women in Summersalt's swimwear campaign celebrating an eclectic group of confident and successful women who love their bodies – in all forms, at any age. Championing women has always been her passion. About Sarah: Sarah Boyd is the co-CEO of The Digital Dept., which represents the most sought-after celebrity influencers. Her current/past clients roster includes Alessandra Ambrosio, Jamie Chung, Olivia Culpo, Julianne Hough, Lauren Bushnell Lane, Jana Kramer, and many more who look to Sarah to help them capitalize on their influential status in the entertainment industry to make their mark in the influencer world. Sarah started her career in Fashion PR and in 2012, she decided to channel her expert industry know-how, her extensive list of contacts, and relationships into starting her own business, SIMPLY, a collective with one goal in mind: connecting. The SIMPLY ‘Do What You Love' event is an annual Fashion and Beauty Conference in cities such as LA, NY, Chicago, and Dubai. Since 2012, SIMPLY has hosted tens of thousands of attendees. Sarah has secured partnerships with prestigious brands like CITI, Topshop, Barney's NY and many more. She's been featured in Marie Claire, People Style Watch, Fox News, E!, LA Business Journal, to name a few. She was named a “Female Founder to Watch” by Forbes and is now a Forbes Fashion and Beauty contributor. In 2017, Sarah completed a successful acquisition for SIMPLY with Socialyte (under the NYLON LLC parent company) and Sarah held the position of President of Socialyte. In 2018, Sarah co-founded the Moms + Babes Box with partner Jana Kramer which is a quarterly subscription box filled with 6+ full sized products for moms and their babes. In 2020, Sarah and Jana sold the business. In 2022, Socialyte was acquired by Dolphin Entertainment, and in 2023, Socialyte and Be Social merged to become The Digital Dept. where Sarah was installed as co-CEO. Ali Hadley – from Fashion PR to Bodylove Pilates FounderI loved hearing every second of Ali Hadley's journey. It was while Ali lived in the Big Apple that her love of Pilates began and where she trained to learn to be a teacher… fast-forward to now and Ali is the founder of Bodylove Pilates. The popular iconic studio in the eastern suburbs of Sydney has now been joined by Ali's second Bodylove studio a magnificent Penthouse space in the city. Jo Tutchener Sharp is the Founder and CEO of Scamp & Dude- the British purpose led fashion brand with a huge heart. Before starting her brand, Jo was a high flyer in the fashion & beauty PR industry working for brands such as Estee Lauder and Tom Ford Beauty. She now lives in Berkshire with her husband and two sons. In this episode Jo talks all about three of the moments that have helped shape her life. Crosby Noricks is a pioneer in the Fashion PR industry. In 2006, she founded PR Couture, a career platform and sourcebook for lifestyle communicators, as a way to highlight where strategy and fashion intersect. In this “lesson on being seen”, we learn how she was able to pivot personally and professionally along the way to help more women become visible in their own businesses. TOPICS DISCUSSED IN THIS EPISODE: It's common for creatives to be multifaceted. Feminist Fashion How Crosby got into her field. Why Crosby wanted to figure out where strategy exists within fashion public relations. The mindsets about PR that PR Couture is trying to change. PR is such a feminized field and it also reflects a lot of the ways that women are socialized to be these supporting characters only working behind the scenes. *70% of the global PR industry is women. **Only 2 of the 10 largest PR agencies worldwide have women running their North American operations. And the salary for a woman in PR is $20,000 less compared to her male counterpart. The thought-leadership piece around PR and how it has evolved in the digital world. What being a thought-leader means to Crosby. How to pivot in the culture of the conversation. How to recognize the time to pivot. How to thrive in an agency environment in the PR industry if you're an introvert. You can ease into your own visibility. True visibility is internal. How certain career choices are subconscious decisions based on our own visibility issues. How personal decisions turn into personal branding. Active listening with your audience and yourself is key as you evolve and your business grows. Filling a gap in the market around service rather than profit. When men market to women they typically try and solve problems that don't exist. Being in service to your creativity and curiosity to help move your business forward. Finding a PR professional who aligns with your mission and values. Women often go into entrepreneurship roles because they face diversity and wage gap issues. We cut off our ability to be accepted and loved in a certain way by not allowing ourselves to be seen. Feminine leadership leans toward collaboration and inclusivity.
**THIS EPISODE WAS RECORDED VIRTUALLY OVER ZOOM - AUDIO QUALITY IS AFFECTED (SORRY!) ** Today's episode is with guest Monet Aluko! She graduated with a degree in sociology and criminology in 2015 and shortly after made her big move to New York where she worked for a private equity firm. Upon returning to the UK she found herself in between temp jobs trying to figure out her next career move. By pure coincidence her friend, who was working for a Fashion PR agency, was looking for someone to help out for a press day. Monet offered her services and the rest was history. Since then, she's worked in a variety of roles from showroom manager to senior account exec working with international clients on high profile shows including Paris fashion week. In this episode we discuss the importance of perseverance and pursuing careers that truly excite and motivate you instead of settling. Monet talks about the issues with comparison, not measuring your success by other people's standards and having patience with the process. We also discuss how (THE OG reality TV show) 'The Hills' was a huge inspiration for her to get into Fashion PR (forever grateful to you Lauren Conrad) and how the fashion industry is evolving to become more inclusive and sustainable, especially for the plus size community. Hope you enjoooooy! Karis x

Not to mention you'll get a free virtual goodie bag which will include a PR checklist, access to our marketing workshop, and 20% off the entry platform store. Fashion PR workshop tickets are out on our website www.theentryplatform.com/fashionprevent. Episode Show Notes: This episode is going to have you SO inspired, you're going to want to drop everything and get to work on your brands straight away. Especially at the end of the podcast where my guest and I get so excited talking about the women we are, the women we want to be, and how that's impacting our business. I absolutely loved speaking to I'sha who is the founder of Izayla, a contemporary luxury womenswear brand based in the sunny city of LA. I'sha comes from a working-class home where she and her siblings were encouraged to pursue really professional and academic careers but I'sha wanted to be different. She proved to her parents she was serious about fashion through her studies and they gave her the green light. Whilst it's still early days for the brand, she has already dressed Gabrielle Union, Lauren Speed from Love is Blind, and Blac Chyna! Whilst these are some big names, I'm really not surprised. As you listen to this episode, you'll see that I'sha is resilient, she's serious and she works bloody hard. This conversation really touched on what it takes in the beginning which is a lot of work! I know you're going to love this episode and I'm going to need you to share it with somebody else so they can start their day on the right note because wow - it was something! Today our special guest Emma Medeiros Fashion PR live on the The Nikki Rich Show. Call in 516-666-8294 TheNikkiRichShow.com. About Emma Emma started Medeiros Fashion Public Relations when after realizing that, out of the thousands of fashion public relations firms in the US, not ONE of them specialized in this exploding industry. Can't have that!!! "To me, fashion is simply FASHION", she states vehemently. "Why should plus size fashion be just an afterthought when the majority of women in this country fall into that category? We want to be sexy, feminine, and fashionable, and designers, retailers, etc, are finally waking up to that fact!" Emma is also the host of Ask Emma, a weekly PR and marketing tips and tricks video series on Facebook Live that she uses to share her wisdom and experience with other small business owners, with co-host Halema Redd, founder of fashion channel Hamilam TV (https://www.youtube.com/channel/UC6d--zwABMaugJ1pZMb7Crw).
www.rachelmatthewswriter.co.uk/post/the-inspiration-space IG: @rachelmatthewswrites / @creativeconnectionspod This week’s episode is with the Founder of The Inspiration Space, Liana Fricker. The Inspiration Space is a community that helps women to grow, scale, or start a small business. https://theinspirationspace.co The Inspiration Space joined forces with a digital accelerator, Growing Together, hosted and supported by the University of Winchester. This allowed The Inspiration Space to combine the nationally recognised business mastermind workshops with their model of peer-to-peer support and community meet-ups. Liana is the dynamic spirit that brings people together to connect the dots, using her knowledge from launching new brands, selling ideas and managing multiple clients. Her professional career in London started in Fashion PR, and she later moved into advertising, after hitting burnout she moved to the suburbs to start a family and found herself feeling unfulfilled after the novelty of the new experience wore off. She tells me how consulting for a startup in California changed her outlook on business. She saw first hand how entrepreneurs in Silicon Valley are confident in their ideas and ambitions, even when they aren’t earning any money, but the end goal keeps them going. Entrepreneurship is all about getting people to the field and solving this big problem that is burning inside. This is what later led her to start The Inspiration Space, a place for women to make a meaningful connection as they progress their businesses, acquire knowledge and establish new relationships. The Inspiration Space helps solve the problem for wanting a career change later in life, the Open University is not the only option in this new revolutionary wave of work. I ask her what common hurdles she helps those in her community overcome, and she describes what the first three years of launching a startup are all about. She endorses the mindset of dreaming big, being vocal about your goals and aspirations to earn money. She says how important it is to put yourself in the right entrepreneurial environment to drown out the doubters because innovation is more important. You can only innovate when you realise it’s okay to be a round peg in a square hole. But don’t mistake a lack of purpose in traditional employment with the desire to start a business - they are two very different things.

Getting your foot in the door of any industry can be very difficult without the right connections. Sarah Boyd finds this to be true in the styling and blogging industry.
The rise of Brian Phillips, the President of Black Frame, to the top echelons of the fashion industry, is both well-known and impressive. Instead of working his way up through the ranks of PR companies he founded Black Frame after having made fashion inroads at the cult magazine Visionaire straight out of college, worked at the now defunct production company Fatal Art Syndicate, and built up a close knit group of friends who just happened to work in the fashion industry. Friends that including Carol Lim and Humberto Leon, the duo behind Opening Ceremony (which Brian helped promote from the start) and who also are also now designing Kenzo – a deal that Brian was instrumental in brokering for the duo. But, perhaps the most mythic fashion war story from Brian’s early career years happened when, while he was in-between jobs, Hedi Slimane came knocking. Brain had worked with the iconic designer on a project a year earlier, the results of which apparently stuck in Slimane’s brain. When Slimane reached out to Brian again, he just happened to be the creative director of Dior Homme. After a meeting with Sidney Toledano, the then CEO of Christian Dior at that time, Brian had a deal with the brand. Thus, at the tender age of 24 Brian launched Black Frame. His first two clients.... Dior Homme and Visionaire. Since then he has nurtured the creative careers of designers and brands like Rodate, Delfina Delettrez, Helmut Lang, Eckhaus Latta, Woolrich, Dion Lee and Nike. Launched a sister company called Framework that focuses on “developing concepts for innovative brand experiences” and more recently became the creative director of the cult biannual publication Garage Magazine. I have known Brian for many years and what strikes you about him, besides the breadth and width of his cultural knowledge, is his no BS way of doing business. In an industry where schmoozing and sucking up has become almost an art form Brian doesn’t suffer fools or is looking for acolytes. He is all business, pretty much all the time. You better bring you’re A-game and offer up an interesting challenge if you want to get his attention. And Brian is a pretty interesting guy in his own right. I promise that if you can bear with the background hum of the air conditioning fan in this interview, that finally shuts down at about the 4-minute mark of our conversation, you will be rewarded with an insightful and informative discussion in which Brian really lays out his business philosophy and creative strategy. Honestly, I just asked my questions, sat back and let Brian run with it.
