A step-by-step guide to reclaiming the soul• Shares four maps for spiritual rebirth based on Joseph Campbell, Carl Jung, Tibetan Buddhist philosophy, and the precession of the equinoxes• Traces the author's journey of rebirth, covering his transformation through a spiritual crisis and the creation of a more meaningful life• Provides visualization practices based on ancient Tibetan wisdom to support you on the path of self-realizationExploring wisdom from mystical traditions and perennial philosophy on "dying before you die," Buddhist psychotherapist Miles Neale shares his own hero's journey of rebirth, providing a detailed roadmap for the pilgrimage through dissolution, into the great mystery, and back again to the world. He shares his transformation through a spiritual crisis and, ultimately, his creation of a more meaningful life. He provides four intersecting maps to help guide readers through the experiential process of metaphoric death, reclaiming the soul, and sharing one's genius with others. These four maps—the cosmological map, psychological map, alchemical map, and mythopoetic map—draw on the mythological stages of Joseph Campbell, Carl Jung's process of individuation, the Tibetan Buddhist alchemy of conscious rebirth, and the astrological phenomenon of the precession of the equinoxes, offering a detailed philosophical underpinning for the soul's journey to immortality. He also provides in-depth visualization practices based on ancient Tibetan wisdom to support you on the path of self-realization.Integrating Tibetan Buddhism with psychology, trauma healing, neuroscience, and mythology, along with profound personal experience, Neale provides a step-by-step manual for spiritual rebirth, revealing how to reframe life's unrelenting challenges and transitions as opportunities for psychological growth.Dr. Miles Neale, PsyD is a psychotherapist in private practice, teacher of Tibetan Buddhism, founder of the Gradual Path for inner and outer journeys, author of Gradual Awakening, and co-editor of Advances in Contemplative Psychotherapy. His forthcoming book, Return with Elixir: Four Maps for the Pilgrimage of the Soul Through Death and Rebirth (Inner Traditions, 2025), integrates Joseph Campbell's mythology, Carl Jung's psychology, Tibetan Buddhist alchemy, and the precession of the equinoxes.Over the past twenty-five years, Miles has fused Eastern spirituality with Western psychology. He earned a Masters in meditation research from New York University, a Doctorate in clinical psychology from the California Institute of Integral Studies, and trained in long-term mentor-student relationships with preeminent American Buddhist scholars Professor Robert Thurman, PhD, and Dr. Joseph Loizzo, MD, PhD as well as Tibetan master Geshe Tenzin Zopa.Miles has taught psychology and meditation at the integrative medical clinics of Harvard, Columbia, and Cornell Universities, designed and led the Contemplative Studies Immersion certificate program based on the Tibetan gradual path (lam rim), offers courses and workshops internationally including at the Tibet House, US, and has initiated fundraising campaigns for nunneries in the Himalayan region.Miles curates and leads life-changing pilgrimages to sacred sites around the world and lives with his wife and two kids in Bali, Indonesia.www.milesneale.comBecome a supporter of this podcast: https://www.spreaker.com/podcast/earth-ancients--2790919/support.

Her innovative company is tackling the global issue of plastic waste with its unique toothpaste tablets, offering a game-changing alternative to traditional toothpaste packaged in plastic tubes.Kaylaan's toothpaste tablets are designed for simplicity and sustainability. “All you do is crunch it. Your saliva does the magic, and you just brush your teeth how you normally would,” Deepti explained. These tablets, made with clean ingredients, generate zero waste and do not require water for activation. They are an eco-friendly solution for environmentally conscious consumers. The journey to bring this product to market has been filled with challenges. Kaylaan is the first company in the United States to manufacture toothpaste tablets with fluoride, a key component for oral health. “We are the only company in the U.S. that manufactures toothpaste tablets with fluoride,” Deepti shared. Achieving this milestone involved navigating a complex FDA approval process, adopting good manufacturing practices (GMP), and undergoing rigorous testing.Deepti highlighted the financial hurdles her company has faced, particularly the annual FDA fees required for over-the-counter products with fluoride. “This year, we got a bill for $25,000 in FDA fees, and we know it will keep increasing. But we didn't stop,” she said, underscoring her determination to succeed.Kaylaan's product lineup includes several flavors tailored to different preferences, from mint to kid-friendly strawberry and watermelon, as well as neem, a nod to Deepti's Himalayan roots. The company recently expanded its offerings with mouthwash tablets, further advancing its mission to eliminate plastic waste. To scale its operations sustainably, Kaylaan is currently raising funds through a regulated investment crowdfunding campaign on Honeycomb Credit. Deepti views this community-driven approach as a way to grow without compromising the company's values. “We wanted to give back to our community and use the funds wisely to grow consistently,” she explained.Kaylaan is more than just a business—it represents a movement to rethink oral care and reduce the environmental footprint of daily routines. Deepti's vision and perseverance serve as an inspiring example of how innovative thinking can create impactful change.tl;dr:Kaylaan founder Deepti Brambl explains how plastic-free toothpaste tablets tackle waste and promote sustainability.Deepti shares challenges of FDA compliance and GMP certification as a small, self-funded startup.Kaylaan's innovative products include fluoride and non-fluoride options in five unique flavors.Deepti discusses raising capital via a regulated crowdfunding campaign to scale operations sustainably.Persistence and embracing failure are key to Deepti's success as a purpose-driven entrepreneur. How to Develop Persistence As a SuperpowerDeepti Brambl's superpower is persistence—a relentless determination to overcome challenges and achieve her goals. As she explained, “If I'm laser-focused and want to achieve something, that is something I would say is my superpower.” Deepti highlighted the role of failure in her journey, noting, “The superpower is failing a lot because that's where the real growth happens.” Her ability to embrace failure and keep moving forward has been key to her success as an entrepreneur.Illustrative Story:When Kaylaan faced an FDA audit, Deepti discovered the company wasn't fully compliant and received a 485 letter. This setback led Amazon to delist their products, forcing Kaylaan to pause operations temporarily. Instead of giving up, Deepti used the audit as a learning opportunity, hiring consultants and implementing rigorous compliance processes. The experience not only ensured full FDA compliance but also set Kaylaan on a path for long-term success.Tips for Developing Persistence:Embrace failure as an opportunity to learn and grow.Allow yourself time to process setbacks before tackling problems with a fresh perspective.Seek help and guidance from others when faced with challenges.Focus on long-term goals rather than immediate obstacles.Adopt the mindset that every problem has a solution.By following Deepti's example and advice, you can make persistence a skill. With practice and effort, you could make it a superpower that enables you to do more good in the world.Remember, however, that research into success suggests that building on your own superpowers is more important than creating new ones or overcoming weaknesses. Often referred to as a “Goldilocks” mineral, iodine must be kept in balance—too little can lead to fatigue, thyroid dysfunction, and hormonal imbalance, while too much can exacerbate autoimmunity and disrupt delicate nutrient interplay. In this episode, we take a comprehensive look at iodine's role in thyroid health, fertility, immune function, breast tissue, and detoxification. We unpack symptoms of both deficiency and excess, explore the connection between iodine and environmental exposures like fluoride, chlorine, and brominated flour, and discuss important considerations for those with Hashimoto's or other autoimmune conditions. You'll also learn how to assess iodine status through testing, the validity of iodine painting, and the risks and benefits of different supplementation approaches. We highlight topical uses—from wound care and nasal rinses to support for fibrocystic breasts—as well as dietary sources like sea vegetables and seafood. The conversation includes a breakdown of iodized salt, the iodine-selenium relationship, and how to use iodine safely and effectively in your wellness routine. On August 5 in Dharali, a Himalayan village near the Gangotri pilgrimage route, steady rain was followed by the ballooning of a river that destroyed homes and futures. It wasn't the first such disaster in this region. It began with regular monsoon rain tapping on roofs, creating thin streams down the hillsides. Hours later, a wall of water, rock and mud tore through Dharali. Nestled in Uttarakhand's upper reaches near Gangotri, Dharali lies close to a sacred source of the Ganga River. But on that day, the river smashed into homes, ripped apart roads and swept away everything in its path. Families fled with nothing. Lives were lost. The Himalayas are young mountains that shift, crack and shed rock. But our choices make them more dangerous: carving roads into fragile slopes, building too close to rivers and the warming the climate. In this episode, a scientist explains the forces shaping the mountains, and an environmentalist shows how our actions magnify the risk. Together, they trace the path from an ordinary day's rain to a disaster and reveal how to stop the next tragedy before it strikes. The calls & pitfalls of the growth of shamanism - Nicholas Breeze Wood

The Primal Happiness Show

Play Episode Listen Later Aug 6, 2025 67:00

In this week's show, Lian is joined by Nicholas Breeze Wood. Nicholas has practiced shamanism for over 40 years, combining it with the 'earthier' end of Tibetan Buddhism, as well as with 'medicine' teachings from Native North American peoples. He has worked with many gifted medicine people and shamans over the years, and is deeply apprenticed to his own spirit helpers, whose teachings never fail to awe and surprise him. Nick's shamanism is a fusion of traditional Himalayan and Mongolian forms, combined with teachings from his own spirits. He works especially deeply with ritual objects - such as bronze shaman's mirrors, phurba daggers and many other Mongolian and Tibetan shamanic and Buddhist ritual objects - for which he holds traditional teachings and, where required, traditional initiations. Despite being a ‘rather uneducated Buddhist,' he is an ordained Tibetan Buddhist lama, a type called a ngakpa, whose role is similar to a shaman's. Ngakpas are non-monastic, non-celebrate lamas who live in the community, specialising in ritual and magic for people within their community. Nick is the editor of Sacred Hoop Magazine - a leading international magazine about shamanism - which has been published since 1993. He is also a musician and artist. He is the author of several books including, 'Walking with the Tiger,' 'Sacred Drums of Siberia,' 'A Little Book of Revealing,' 'Voices From The Earth,' 'The Book of the Shaman,' 'The Shaman Box,' and 'The Resplendent Other'. He runs the large Facebook group 3Worlds Shamanism, has done a podcast called the 3Worlds shamanism podcast on and off since 2006 and also has a somewhat neglected YouTube channel, also called 3Worlds Shamanism. In this episode, Lian and Nicholas explore what it means to walk the path of shamanism in the modern West. Together, they trace the winding threads of Nicholas' life… from the windswept fields of his Midlands childhood to the birth of Sacred Hoop magazine, through encounters with medicine wheel teachings, Mongolian and Himalayan shamans, and the long shadow of Castaneda. What unfolds is not a how-to or a prescription… but a living braid of animism, discipline, and devotion. Nicholas reflects on the unexpected gift of dyslexia and how neurodivergence shaped his initiatory path, as a different kind of perception… one that enabled a direct, embodied relationship with the unseen. He and Lian explore the tension between psychotherapeutic frameworks and authentic shamanic practice, and the danger of mistaking surface form for deep structure. What makes a shaman, he says, is not sensitivity or interest, but being chosen by the spirits themselves. Woven through the conversation is the question of lineage. What does it mean to carry teachings from other lands onto this one? How do we honour both the transmission and the soil we stand upon? From the cosmology of the medicine wheel to the pitfalls of cultural appropriation, from core shamanism to the necessity of cosmological bone… this episode offers a rare encounter with an elder who has walked the shamanic path for many decades. We'd love to know what YOU think about this week's show. Let's carry on the conversation… please leave a comment wherever you are listening or in any of our other spaces to engage. What you'll learn from this episode: Why the word “shaman” is often misused… and how understanding deep structure versus surface form can clarify what is truly sacred. How neurodivergence can shape perception in ways that become part of our gift, especially when navigating the unseen or the unknown. What it might mean to birth a Western lineage… one rooted not in imitation, but in integration, initiation, and real relationship with land and spirit. In the late 1920s, Theodore Roosevelt Jr. and his younger brother Kermit, sons of President Theodore Roosevelt, wanted fame and glory apart from the family spotlight. They were seeking the “empty spots” on the maps, the areas that had yet to be explored and described by Westerners. From these remote places, they hoped to bring back exotic animals to aid the scientific community’s understanding of taxonomy, biological diversity, and its relatively recent theories of evolution. The animal they most wanted was an elusive black and white bear that, at the time, was more legend than scientific fact. Today’s guest is Nathalia Holit, author of “The Beast in the Clouds.” She tells the full story of this expedition into China’s Himalayan wilderness.See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

“I thought I needed them more than they needed me and what turned out that I learned very very quickly is the opposite is true. They actually need us, the real estate investor, to borrow that money more than we need them.”  Private lending isn't a mystery—it's a strategy. When traditional banks slam their doors shut, savvy entrepreneurs don't whine… they pivot. By learning how to attract and manage private capital, you shift from being at the mercy of gatekeepers to becoming your own underwriter. This episode breaks down exactly how everyday investors can raise private money ethically, safely, and with integrity—without begging or pitching a single deal.  Jay Conner shares how he raised over $2 million in just 90 days from people who had never even heard of private money before. “You don't need a credit score. You don't need a bank's approval. You need a teacher's mindset and a rock-solid program.” Conner breaks down his referral method, his “good news” script, and why trust, not desperation, fuels every successful transaction.  Jay Conner is known as The Private Money Authority. He's a national speaker, author of Where to Get the Money Now, and host of the Raising Private Money podcast. After being cut off by banks in 2009, he discovered private lending and has since done over 500 deals using over $8.5 million in private capital.  Expert action steps:  Join a mastermind group – Surround yourself with like-minded people.  Read great books – Your destiny is shaped by the people you meet and the books you read.  Take care of your health – Sleep, hydration, and sunlight matter. In this globe-trotting episode of The Bourbon Road, hosts Jim Shannon and Todd Ritter are joined once again by Rob Carter, one-third of the “Maltmigos,” for a single malt tasting session that travels from the Himalayas to the Highlands. Though Amzie couldn't make the show this time, the malt trio powers forward from their tasting post at The Corner Rickhouse in Frankfort, Kentucky. The spotlight this episode is on Royal Tiger Single Malt, a double-cask expression from Ocean King Distillers in Goa, India. Distilled by Craig Enriques, this single malt is made from six-row Himalayan barley and aged first in new ex-bourbon casks before being re-casked for a second maturation. The result? A spirit layered with creamy vanilla, overripe pear, honey-drizzled bread, and a whisper of spice from the oak—delightfully balanced and surprisingly sweet for fans of traditional single malt. Jim, Todd, and Rob dig into the expression's structure, remarking on its buttercream and vanilla-laced nose, light body, and smooth, sweet finish. They note that while the whiskey skews a little sweeter than their usual fare, it offers a refreshing break from the bolder, high-proof bourbons they typically favor. For a $49 bottle, the consensus was unanimous: this Indian single malt punches well above its weight. Other expressions tasted during the show are Ice Cream from Glenmorangie, Loch Lemond and Glen Scotia. As they sip, the conversation ranges from distilling techniques to global whiskey culture. The team highlights India's rapidly growing single malt scene and how regional water sources, climate, and local grain are contributing to distinct profiles that rival the best from Scotland or the U.S. They also muse about the potential for single malt cream liqueurs and whether peated versions could offer a new kind of dessert dram. Beyond the glass, the hosts discuss upcoming barrel picks in western Kentucky, share travel plans to Fort Campbell and Clarksville, and reflect on the value of tasting outside your comfort zone. For Rob, this was a first-time single malt deep dive; for listeners, it's a lesson in palate exploration, regional nuance, and just plain good company. So whether you're a bourbon loyalist or a curious malthead, this episode is an open invitation to explore a world of flavor—no passport required. By blending adventure, competition, and impactful storytelling, Gurung aims to draw global attention to the alarming speed at which Himalayan glaciers are melting. The groundbreaking project, World Vlog Challenge, features YouTube creators from around the world competing in a grueling trek to Everest Base Camp while documenting the effects of climate change on the region. The competition offers a $100,000 prize and has already premiered on Amazon Prime in the US and UK, with a global release planned for August 7.The show's purpose goes beyond entertainment. Gurung explained, “The springs, rivers, and waterfalls that feed billions of lives downstream originate here. Through this challenge, we show YouTubers—and their audiences—the source of freshwater and the critical role glaciers play in our ecosystem.”The melting of Himalayan glaciers, once a slow, natural process, has accelerated dramatically due to human influence. “Normally, it would take hundreds of years to form a meter of glacier,” he said. “Now, they're melting in just ten years. That speed is dangerous.”What sets the World Vlog Challenge apart is its focus on engaging younger generations. Recognizing that traditional scientific communication often struggles to reach this audience, Gurung chose YouTubers as his storytellers. “These creators are great storytellers and can bring the stories of the glaciers to life in a relatable, engaging way,” he said.Funding such an ambitious project posed significant challenges. After exhausting traditional investment channels, Gurung turned to regulated investment crowdfunding via WeFunder. “We're asking the community to support something that promotes Nepal, the Himalayas, and awareness about climate change,” he shared.Through determination and creativity, Gurung has created a show that is both educational and entertaining. By focusing on the human drama of the trek and the urgent message of climate change, World Vlog Challenge stands as a testament to the power of storytelling and collaboration. Those interested in supporting the project can visit the Wefunder campaign at [wefunder.com/challengerseverest] and watch the show when it becomes available globally on August 7.tl;dr:Shree Gurung's World Vlog Challenge uses reality TV to highlight climate change and melting glaciers.YouTube creators compete for $100,000 while trekking to Everest Base Camp, documenting the journey. The show blends adventure and education to engage younger audiences on critical climate issues.Shree's determination enabled him to overcome funding and production challenges for this ambitious project. The show is now on Amazon Prime, with a global release set for August 7.How to Develop Determination As a SuperpowerShree Gurung describes his superpower as determination, the ability to persevere through challenges and setbacks. In today's episode, he explained, “There were so many moments I wanted to give up, but I didn't have a choice. I knew I was doing something good for the community, and that kept me going.” Shree's determination has fueled his ability to produce a groundbreaking reality show about climate change, overcoming obstacles like lack of funding and global skepticism about a Nepal-based production.Shree shared how his determination enabled him to produce the World Vlog Challenge. Despite rejections from sponsors and studios, he single-handedly managed production, marketing, and logistics for the show. “For around 45 days, I didn't sleep properly,” he recalled. Coming from a rural Nepalese village and lacking traditional resources, Shree drew on his experiences of hardship to push forward, creating a globally recognized project that showcases both Nepal's culture and the urgency of climate change.Tips for Developing Determination:Find Your Passion: Shree emphasized that clarity of purpose drives determination. Identify what inspires you.Break Down Challenges: Focus on one step at a time, especially when the big picture feels overwhelming.Seek Community Support: Surround yourself with people who validate your mission and provide encouragement.Embrace Responsibility: Commit fully to your goals, even when quitting feels easier.By following Shree's example and advice, you can make determination a skill. With practice and effort, you could make it a superpower that enables you to do more good in the world.Remember, however, that research into success suggests that building on your own superpowers is more important than creating new ones or overcoming weaknesses. What should farmers know about his bill? Major cuts to the SNAP program, stricter qualifications for recipients, and passing costs off to the states. Next up, the continued issues of the screwworm and the problems these invasive, flesh eating pests are causing. ICYMI, a screwworm is a type of parasitic fly larva that fees on living flesh of warm blooded animals, including humans. Its name comes from the maggot's appearance as it burrows into a wound, resembling a screw being driven into wood. Th screwworm can cause severe damage and even death if left untreated. The USDA is making plans to better prepare farmers should these pests get into their herds. Moving on, Doug shares a list of foods with the highest amounts of microplastics. They are apples and carrots (most commonly used in juice cleanses). Other foods with higher levels of microplastics include rice, pink Himalayan sea salt, sugar, tea, plant-based nuggets, fish sticks, shrimp, and water. Tea is one of the most widely consumed beverages in the world, second only to water. It comes in many varieties: black, green, white, oolong, and herbal. Tea is celebrated for its health benefits, from antioxidants to its calming effects, and it continues to play a major role in global culture and commerce. In recent decades, tea has experienced a revival in interest, with a growing market for specialty teas, such as artisanal blends, organic teas, and matcha. The modern-day global tea market is vast, and tea continues to evolve as both a daily beverage and a symbol of tradition, health, and innovation. It can solve 3 key problems, particularly in the Himalayas: Urban migration - young folks are moving to megacities in search of work which fragments the family and drives unsustainable urban growth Land degradation - abandoned farmland due to the fragmented family deteriorates into unusable dirt Climate change - increased droughts and floods trigger catastrophic landslides Tea is one clear solution: Tea creates rural jobs and reverses urban migration Tea revitalizes wasted farmland and is an anchor crop for biodiversity Tea leaves drink CO2 which gets stored in their roots and removed from the atmosphere Tea is a gender economic equalizer -  And the outcome of what my guest has started is aligned with many of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals Their Vision is to create a sustainable future for Himalayan farmers and their families.  Their Mission is to partner with Himalayan communities to raise the quality of their tea, so farmers can earn more and raise the quality of their lives.  Young Mountain Tea partners with farmers in North India to get a new factory up and running. Tea farmers, 90% being women, will launch their region's first community-owned tea factory. This factory will be a blueprint for a model of sustainable change in the tea industry, eventually throughout the Himalayas and the world.   Building A Sustainable Future For Himalayan Farmers And Their Families is truly a social enterprise. Host Doug Stephan and Dr. Ken Kronhaus of Lake Cardiology (352-735-1400) cover a number of topics affecting our health. First up, Doug and Dr. Ken discuss the biggest news stories in the medical world, starting with a focus on good news that heart attack deaths have dropped by nearly 90% since the 1900s, in large part to implementing knowledge of the fundamental risk factors of heart disease.Additionally, a new study suggests a better way to measure weight over BMI (body mass index). The problem with it is that muscle and bone are a lot heavier than fat, which can give a false elevated BMI reading. A BMI over 30 is obesity. There are now high tech devices that can better measure body fat more accurately. Moving on, regular exercise in children isn't only fighting childhood obesity, but also childhood anxiety and depression.Next up, new hope of inverse vaccines that target a specific part of the immune system to suppress, and possibly reverse, autoimmune disease. The next item of interest is what the Health and Human Services is doing with the food and drink products containing synthetic dyes and just how many food products they're actually added to, and the most common is Red 40.Then the question -- how beneficial are pets for our health if we're allergic? Turns out, pet allergens are found in nearly all homes, even homes without pets. Pet allergens are from the pet dander, not their fur, and symptoms of pet allergies often mimic colds or seasonal allergies — sneezing, running nose, nasal congestion, red and/or itchy eyes, coughing, wheezing, shortness of breath, and hives or eczema. Immunotherapy is the only, ultimate relief of pet allergies. If you're looking to reduce allergy symptoms to pets, that would include keeping the pets out of the bedroom, use HEPA air filters, wash hands after petting animals, bathe your pet regularly, and use a vacuums with a double or micro-filter bag.Lastly, Doug and Dr. Ken answer listener questions, including low levels of a common drinking water contaminant linked to premature birth, low birth weight babies, and interference of the bloods ability to carry oxygen. Plus, are juice classes as healthy as we're led to believe? Doug and Dr. Ken discuss that, too. In tandem with that, foods that are filled with microplastics include apples and carrots (most commonly used in juice cleanses). Other foods with higher levels of microplastics include rice, pink Himalayan sea salt, sugar, tea, plant-based nuggets, fish sticks, shrimp, and water. Website: GoodDayHealthShow.comSocial Media: @GoodDayNetworks

In this podcast, I kick things off by sharing a behind-the-scenes highlight from my recent trip to Washington, DC, where I attended the Make America Healthy Again Commission report presentation at the White House. This experience was powerful, but also sobering, as the report shone a harsh light on the health crisis among our nation's youth—more than 40% of children have at least one chronic illness, and a staggering 70% of their daily calories come from ultra-processed foods. I discuss not just the causes of these issues, like environmental toxicity, digital addiction, and over-medicalization, but also my thoughts on where real change can and should occur. By the end of this episode, you’ll have a clear blueprint for dialing in your nutrition, optimizing your training recovery, and using smart timing to boost your energy, fat loss results, and longevity.
