Get it right and you can SOAR!! Join me and my guests Mali Phonpadith and Marissa Levin, CEOs of SOAR Community Network and Successful Culture International, as we explore the magic created when a successful merger occurs. In their words, "This is a marriage of two organizations that are aligned in purpose, values, and culture who share a passion for raising the consciousness of leaders and organizations so that all employees feel seen, heard, supported, valued, and aligned with a company's values and mission. Our work in diversity, equity & inclusion, and our flagship SCALE Academy, perfectly align with the comprehensive suite of solutions that SOAR brings to the market. The integration of our programs positions SOAR to be a global leader in corporate culture, DEIB (diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging), conscious leadership, and ESG (environmental, social and governance) initiatives across government, private, and nonprofit sectors.” . Mali and Marissa recognized the “business case” for the merger AND also recognized that successful mergers are exceedingly rare. What was the difference that has made the difference? Have you ever had to compromise your values? She said, “… When I went to school … I did compromise some of those beliefs and values, some of those traditions … it wasn't going to serve me at the time … I didn't want to get beat up … I didn't want to be ridiculed … In fact, many times, I just wanted to be invisible … But, it was hard to be invisible when you stuck out like a sore thumb...” If Mali's message speaks to you, what did you do when your values were compromised? She said, “… The best thing that I could do to cope as a young person was to either fit in or try to do my very best to study real hard and not even give eye contact to my peers … Sitting on the bus, being picked on, you just look down and you just didn't say anything … You didn't want to cause problems, you didn't want to cause issues … So, the values that my parents taught me like, ‘Stand up for yourself,' but at the same time they were also concerned and I saw that they were kind of compromising on their values because they didn't understand the rules and the laws … So, they were like, ‘Stand up for yourself, but do it in a way that doesn't get you in trouble because we don't know what the laws are here…'” What are the values that you choose not to compromise on, no matter what the circumstances may be? EPISODE HIGHLIHTS: Values: Your values will shape your thoughts, actions, and beliefs Compromise: “I think most people compromise when they don't feel safe” Uniqueness: What makes you unique? Mali Phonpadith interviews Julie Jakopic of iLeads Strategies. In high school Julie Jakopic was an actor, president of the world affairs club, and a nationally ranked synchronized swimmer. She’s never fit neatly in anyone’s box. Not because she didn’t fit in one, but because she couldn’t or wouldn’t pick just one box. As a kid, that often meant she didn’t feel like she belonged anywhere. As an adult, that desired to explore more than one box, has been a gift. She has lead organizations in the nonprofit, public, and corporate sectors, dealing in everything from cosmetics to energy efficiency to human services. She gets to bring the best of one sector to bear in another, and she understands the crazy things that are pervasive across them all. Over her career, she has been led by, and even been, the overwhelmed frantic executive; the controlling, people-pleasing, diva-martyr. It may get stuff done, but it is soul-killing for the team and the leader. For her, it created the need and the opportunity to look back at leadership journey that started at a swimming pool, often under water where no one can speak or hear you. Ultimately, she has learned that leadership is less about what you say and more about what you do. If you lead from a place of deep mission-driven commitment, a place of joy and service, not only will your life be happier but you will be more productive. This is the understanding that drives her to help leaders lead better – in their careers and in the rest of their lives, too. Julie created iLead Strategies to share that knowledge broadly, to help leaders create workplaces that work for their workers, deliver outstanding results for their customers, and make a real and positive impact in the world. www.iLeadStrategies.com www.juliejakopic.com www.DontAwaitCreate.com Twitter: @ileadstrat Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/iLeadStrategies LinkedIn: www.linkedin.com/in/juliejakopic/ Join our community: http://soarcommunitynetwork.com

Born by the beaches of Casablanca, Laurent grew up with the Mediterranean lifestyle infused with a time-immaterial mentality: the best things in life take time to nurture —food, wine, friendships. There are no short cuts, which is perfectly fine because the journey is just as enjoyable as the destination. Every moment counts, every moment is a celebration, so make the most out of the moment you’re you are living in. When that moment is over, make the most out of the next one. This is how Laurent was raised and what he brings to his fitness program! For the past 15 years, Laurent has been Washington DC’s well sought after fitness expert. He was called to participate in Oprah’s “Live Your Best Life” tour and has been featured in ELLE Magazine along with numerous television and radio programs. As the architect behind NRGY!15TM, he created this high intensity workout based on 15 signature moves choreographed to energetic music. Mali Phonpadith interviews Angelique Cooper McGlotten, Best-Selling Author of Living Backward: The Gift of Hindsight In Building A Truly Significant Life. "Each of us is on a path that is taking us somewhere. Moment-by-moment, day-by-day, we build our lives and shape our eternal future. What are you building with your life? Do you know where you’re headed? And do the things in which you’re investing time, energy, and money really matter? Life is fleeting. We get only one opportunity to make our mark. And we don’t have time on our hands. True progress is using our gifts and talents to fulfill our unique purpose and becoming all we were created to be—not simply checking off the boxes or leading a busy life. When we engage life with a reverse orientation of time elapsing, not accruing, we will make steady progress toward living purposefully as we wisely redeem the precious time we’ve been given." Mali Phonpadith, Founder and CEO of the SOAR Community Network (SCN), joins Mark Alyn on Late Night Health. Mali is an entrepreneur, author, speaker and marketing strategist. She is also an accomplished poet, television show producer and podcaster who helps small business SOAR in the market. All these roles and titles may sound impressive, but arriving here hasn’t been an easy road. Mali and her family escaped war-torn Laos in 1979 and arrived in the United States when she was just 5 years old. She did not grow up with money and privilege. Her parents worked two or three jobs to support their four children. Mali and her siblings learned early in life, the importance of hard work and determination. Mali began working in a fast-food restaurant when she was fifteen years old and hasn’t stopped working since. Stress, worry and fear of “not having” ruled most of her young life. This “conditioning” continues to be a part of her life but with a lot of personal development work, her awareness guides her to live more calmly and have a sense of freedom that she wasn’t able to tap into when she was growing up. When Mali turned 27, she began facing terrible tragedies. In 2003, she lost her fiancé and a family member in a drowning accident. Two years after this painful event, she lost her godfather and 6 months thereafter, suffered the sudden death of her father to a 3-week battle with cancer. Two years later, her best friend passed away, then her uncle to cancer and, most recently, her grandmother to illness. She has weathered seven major losses in less than 10 years. The constant grief can take a toll on the body, heart and mind. Mark interviews Mali to explore all the ways in which she walked through the grief and continued moving forward, even with all the losses she has had to endure. They discuss practices, techniques, and the emotional stamina required to move from tragedy and trauma toward living every day with intention and purpose.
