Hello Happy People,We are thrilled to share with you today Dianne's interview with Wealth Management Specialist, Chad Willardson. To say Chad has an impressive background in finance and publishing does not come close to painting an accurate picture of his achievements. He is the President and Founder of Pacific Capital, five-time bestselling author, long-time Certified Financial Fiduciary, and recently launched his latest book, Wealth Wired Differently. Following the success of his previous bestsellers, Fit for Wealth, Stress Free Money, Beyond the Money, and Smart, Not Spoiled, Wealth Wired Differently dives into essential topics for entrepreneurs navigating the financial landscape and looking for the best advice and strategies available. It is easy to understand how Chad could write such books when you look at his own entrepreneurial and financial background. The wealth management industry has changed tremendously over the last 20 years, and it's difficult to remember that what we now consider the norm developed over time. Merrill Lynch's shift towards goal-based wealth management transformed the industry and moved beyond a narrow focus on ROI. This new approach better-served clients by prioritizing their actual goals such as supporting family members, buying homes, or securing a comfortable retirement. The firm gained a substantial edge in an industry characterized by uniformity.  The people behind this approach are three wealthtech legends: John Thiel, Executive Advisor and Board Director and former Head of Merrill Lynch Wealth Management, Rich Aneser, Chief Strategy Officer at Envestnet, and John Connors, CEO and Co-Founder of Boathouse. The three discuss their tactics to shift advisors' perspectives in an industry averse to change. In this episode, the three guests talk with Jack about how Total Merrill got started, how they successfully shifted advisors' perspectives, and the challenges of building a business in the wealth management space. Key Takeaways [02:28] - How Total Merrill got started. [07:02] - The challenges of building a business in a well-established industry. [10:03] - How Rich deployed marketing in a meaningful way. [12:35] - How John Connors built Total Merrill's strategy. [17:08] - James Gorman's bright idea. [22:35] - Tactics used to shift advisors' perspectives. [25:26] - How to get people behind embracing a new business strategy. [33:16] - What John Thiel, Rich Aneser, and John Connor are most proud of. [42:22] - John Thiel, Rich Aneser, and John Connor's key takeaways. Quotes [42:22] - “People really want to do something with their money. Their performance is important, but it's only in the context of what they're trying to accomplish. We have to continue to leverage technology capabilities that can better understand risk, especially as things evolve.” ~John Thiel [43:33] - “You can only be a part of something really extraordinary when you're with an extraordinary group of people working towards the same end, and it never gets done alone.” ~ Rich Aneser [44:02] - “There's a lot of incrementalism in today's world, and a lot of people play it conservative and safe. The boldness that the Merrill team exhibited to put the client's interest first to make a big move, to try and change the game. There's not as many opportunities to change the game anymore.” ~ John Connors Links  John Thiel - Board Trustee - Florida State University | LinkedIn John Connors - CEO/Co-Founder - Boathouse | LinkedIn Rich Aneser - Chief Strategy Officer - Envestnet, Inc | LinkedIn James Gorman - Chairman and CEO - Morgan Stanley | LinkedIn Merrill Lynch Boathouse Envestnet Franklin Templeton Connect with our hosts LifeYield Jack Sharry on LinkedIn Jack Sharry on Twitter Subscribe and stay in touch Apple Podcasts Spotify LinkedIn Twitter Facebook

In her first book, OWN IT: The Power of Women at Work, former Wall Street powerhouse-turned-entrepreneur Sallie Krawcheck invites readers to throw out stale (read: male) definitions of what success looks like and embrace the qualities that make them amazing collaborators, extraordinary leaders, and invaluable assets to their companies. Before launching Ellevest, a digital investment platform for women, Krawcheck served as CEO of Smith Barney, CEO of Merrill Lynch Wealth Management, and CFO of Citigroup. In OWN IT, she draws on her unique experiences (and the battle scars she has to prove them) from the highest levels of business and entrepreneurship to offer a fresh and contrarian outlook on navigating today’s business landscape, namely: Being a woman in the business world today isn’t a liability - it’s an asset. Success for professional women will no longer be about trying to compete at the men’s version of the game, Krawcheck says. And it will no longer be about contorting to men’s expectations of how powerful people behave. Instead, it’s about embracing and investing in our authentic selves as women - and bringing those selves proudly and unapologetically, to work. When we do this, Krawcheck says, we gain the power to advance in our careers in more natural ways. We gain the power to initiate courageous conversations in the workplace. We gain the power to forge non-traditional career paths; to leave companies that don’t respect our worth, and instead, go start our own. And we gain the power to invest our economic muscle in making our lives, and the world, better. There are many reasons to be optimistic about the future, because the business world is changing fast –driven largely by technology - and it’s changing in ways that play to women’s strengths. This gives us more power and opportunities than ever…and even more than we yet realize. This change is real, and it’s coming fast. It’s time to own it. Sallie Krawcheck is the cofounder and CEO of Ellevest, an innovative digital investment platform designed to help women reach their financial goals. She is also chair of Ellevate Network; a professional networking community whose mission is to advance women in business. She is one of the highest ranked women ever to have worked on Wall Street, having held posts such as CEO of Smith Barney, CEO of Merrill Lynch Wealth Management and CFO of Citigroup and was a top-ranked research analyst. She has been profiled as one of Fast Company’s “Most Creative People” in Business, as well as in the Wall Street Journal, Fortune, Forbes, and more. Krawcheck attended the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and holds an MBA from Columbia University. For more information, please visit: www.salliekrawcheck.com

I'm honored to have a very special guest on the show today. This is someone I wanted to have on the show from before I was even live with So Money. I always had a running wish list of guests, and she was at the top. Now, she is here - Sallie Krawcheck. Do you know Sallie Krawcheck? If you don’t know Sallie Krawcheck, you need to know Sallie Krawcheck. Maybe if you don’t work in the world of finance, you don’t follow business news regularly, you may not have come across her name, but she is a force in this industry. Right now, she is the CEO and co-founder of Ellevest. Ellevest is a soon-to-be launched digital investment platform for women. To me, Sallie has always been the ultimate pioneer for closing the gender wage gap and women’s rights in the work place. With Ellevest, what she’s really trying to do is close the investment wage gap. Sallie is on a very public and professional mission right now to help women reach their financial and professional goals. She’s also the chair of Ellevate Network, a global professional women’s network with thousands of members and growing. I'm actually a member. Sallie serves as the chair of the PAX Elevate Global Woman’s Index Fund which she recently launched and invest in the top rated companies for advancing women. Now, before becoming an entrepreneur, she was the CEO of Merrill Lynch Wealth Management and Smith Barney. So, she knows a thing or two. We want to talk about the gender wage gap and how women invest differently. We also discuss her own financial failures because she’s had some. She is very generous with going down memory lane and giving us those stories to help us avoid the same mistakes. Ellevest is also a really exciting venture. She has a website for us that she mentions during the conversation that we can go to, to try it out and experience it firsthand. For more information visit www.somoneypodcast.com.
