The legendary Paul Ledney of Profanatica makes his long overdue debut on Into The Necrosphere this week. Profanatica has just released their new EP, “Wreathed In Dead Angels” through Hells Headbangers. Paul is also a four decade veteran of extreme and underground music, who has literally seen every trend you can imagine - and was more than happy to share his unique perspective on the evolution of death and black metal, along with discussing a host of other topics. Then it's on to the news rant and this week I'm rounding up the latest singles by Thronum Vrondor, Dark Angel, Baest, Gaahl's Wyrd, Necrophobic, Sodom and others for judgement. I also comment on the recent attempt to cancel Glenn Danzig, Metallica appearing ever-so-smug on the teaser to their latest documentary, and I answer more of your questions. PLUS: a premiere on the sphere courtesy of Australian war metal brigade, Deathorde.

War (or Total War as they were known later) was a short lived project in the late 90s (that included members of Necrophobic, Abruptum, In Aeturnum and Hypocrisy) that only issued one EP and one full length. So why do they deserve the In 40 Minutes treatment? Because here we have one of the best (THE best?) vicious black metal bands on this much maligned earth. Sure, Marduk has a more extensive discography, but I would put both of War's releases right up there with Panzer Division Marduk in the "Best Violent Black Metal Album of All Time" category. Welcome to another album review on The Great Metal Debate podcast. I'm Xander, and today I'll be talking about the upcoming album from the Nashville-based black metal duo Obsidian Shrine. I've been a fan of Obsidian Shrine for nearly three years, since I discovered them in mid-2019. I never go the opportunity to see them live, but I have heard from many people that they always put on a good show for a local act. The band's debut album – Anno Domini Satanas – is vastly overlooked and is a true hidden gem for any black metal fan. If the band Inquisition wasn't already proof that you can make quality black metal with just two people, then let these two guys proove it witht their new album Bloodshed Under The Black Star. The first song is the album title track, and immediately we are greeted with a cacophany of crystal clear yet rhythmic sound. It begins like any other well-produced modern black metal; but after 30 seconds, there is a sudden tempo change. It's a pleasantly triumphant battle hymn, made up of a marching band-style drum roll for a small build-up. Then… hell is unleashed! When the raspy vocals of Murmur kick in, you pretty much know what you're in for. This song's surprises don't end there. At the half-way mark we hear a guitar solo from none other than Sebastian Ramstedt from the old-school blackened death metal band Necrophobic. It's a nice treat and fore-shadowing what's to come later on in the album. “Kingdom Of Sheep” is another standout track, as it begins with the ominous sound of sheep baaing. The last time I heard a song start off this way it was the song “Satan Spawn, The Caco-Daemon” by Deicide. However, the baaing doesn't last near as long, as it is cut short by the snarls of a Baphomet. Plus, this song is absolutely nothing like the beginning of “Legion” as it is a very different musical style. The song itself is a dark-to-light. “Only War Remains” is a track that truly showcases how good guitarist Nazgûl is at shredding. As for the song “Luciferian Wrath,” it's every bit as diabolical as it sounds. “Angelus Mortem” is without a doubt the most evil song on the entire record – especially since most of the vocals are Murmur and Nazgûl at the same time. Which makes the song sound every bit as satanic as when Glen Benton and Dave Suzuki did on the last two Vital Remains albums. Track 6 is called “Indoctrintoxin” and it's probably the fastest song on the album due to the continuous blast-beats and the fast guitar strumming with plenty of distortion. Just like with all great modern metal releases, it just isn't complete without a cover song from the most influential musicians to the band. I told you Necrophobic was coming back: track 7 is a near-identical re-recording of the song “Nailing The Holy One.” Obsidian Shrine has done an incredible job of honoring the metal gods! “At The Gates” isn't just the name of a Swedish metal band; it is also the name of the next song. Yet another standout track for the band. But the album concludes with a wonderful song about good old demonic possession. The final track is called “They Who Dwell Within,” which opens with an audio clip from the movie Exorcism Of Emily Rose. Once you hear the voice of actress Jennifer Carpenter say the name of the track, you are hit in the face with an unrelenting hellfire of a song. It's an epic and hellish finale, which ends with the haunting message of Emily saying: “And I am Lucifer – the devil in the flesh.” You can tell that Murmur and Nazgûl both poured their blackened hearts and souls into the production of this album. It was made for their small cult following of fans and their die-hard supporters. Do not sleep on this amazing black metal album – it'll be worth every penny! I'm giving it a 9.5 out of 10. Obsidian Shrine's Bloodshed Under the Black Star will be available on April 15th through Negative Earth Recordings. You can pre-order your copy of the CD and order their t-shirt on Bandcamp.com.
El machacón estribillo declara lo siguiente: “Remember me, hear my plea, time's drawing nigh for me to die...”. “Torture, waiting to die, torment, you scream and you cry, evil, in my eyes, death... in the black of the night”. Hallows Eve no inventaron nada.

Crossover thrashers Power Trip seem forged especially for RAM. 65% Metal. 35% Hardcore. 5% pro wrasslin'. Right before the Trippers hit the road they took the time to headline the Manitoba Metalfest giving us the opportunity for a long overdue chat. Vox/mainman Riley Gale was eager to talk record 2.5 (??) "Opening Fire 2008 -2014", their SOLD OUT (!!) Decibel cover, and the band's musical involvement with the WWE. On 4/20 no less. In our "News, Views, and Tunes", we go over the Lamb Of God stolen axe incident, the Cro Mags lawsuit sitch, and producer Rick Rubin's controversial "Slayer/black metal" statement. Musically we crank some Power Trip, new tunes from Tanith, Destrage, Windswept, Amygdala, some Necrophobic, and introduce (another Trip) in Canadian punkers Guilt Trip in our "Indie Spotlight". Horns!!

Welcome to another scintillating episode of The Podunk Polymath Podcast! I talk on te pre-ramble about two firsts, and also about some stories in the news that are less than pleasant, one new and one ongoing. I have the pleasure on the palaver of speaking with two podcasters that I like and admire a great deal : Ari Stillman and Jeremiah Traeger, who both are on podcasts of their own (The Gaytheist Manifesto and No Religion Required, respectively) but have now joined together to form the irreverent but hilarious and topical SJW Circle Jerk. We have a wide ranging discussion about making fun of ourselves and the limits of such humor. And there's lots of childish behavior, mostly from Jeremiah. We also find out that Ari doesn't do well under pressure, like giving funny and original outros. I think you will agree that this is one of the best episodes of TPPP yet! In the novel 1984 there is a room called Room 101 wherein the "Ministry of Love" subjects prisoners to their worst fears, phobias and nightmares. Apparently George Orwell named it after a meeting room at the BBC where he would be subjected to tedious meetings. Episode 101 is far from tedious though, although there may still be nightmares, fears and phobias lurking within these files. If you're afraid of snails or slugs you might want to avoid Slugde's latest album Gastronomicon. Malignant Tumor might also conjure fears of disease, but that's more likely the sound of your head getting crushed. If you're afraid of spectral hounds (or of Welsh myth) then Cwn Annwn might be your trigger. Technophobia sufferers may wish to take Silicon War Sector's advice about Techno Ethics to heart, while those fearing the unseen may want to avoid Rorshack. Necrophobic and geometriphobic listeners won't find comfort in Triumphant Skull (or in Studying the Spheres), nor will they want Visio Mortis. Those who have an irrational fear of Spiral Mountains will want to seek help immediately. And those who fear punk music will certainly want to escape prior to Stars Burn Stripes's Songs About Escapism. But other than those caveats there is nothing more to fear within the confines of the aural bit-stream awaiting you. Unless you're afraid of the best Creative Commons metal music on the planet. We couldn't be any more excited about this week's guest: Bill Steer of the legendary Carcass. Just back from a one-off show in South America, Bill talks about how the metal industry has changed since Carcass's last go-round, how the songs on Surgical Steel were written, how Swansong is not their best record, the rise of nu-metal that led to the band's demise and more, all while we gaze lovingly into his pretty eyes. We also discuss why metal bands have no message control during public controversies, focusing on the recent Necrophobic domestic abuse and As I Lay Dying Facebook scandals. Should bands learn better PR techniques? Should they stop beating the crap out of their women (allegedly)? Should they cut off their Facebook accounts before one of their members makes them look stupid? Songs:Protest the Hero - "Clarity"Carcass - "Unfit For Human Consumption"
