In this episode, I sit down with Zach Rausch, lead researcher on the bestselling book “The Anxious Generation,” to discuss the impact social media is having on children, how we're seeing social media affect mental health today, and what parents can do to create intentional relationships with social media and technology in households. He also explains the perfect storm of social media usage during “periods of particular vulnerability,” how boys and girls are targeted differently on social media, and why the introduction of the forward-facing camera was so significant for our culture. In this solo episode, I share the exciting news that I've developed a “Quiet Your Mind and Busy Your Hands” journal and adult coloring affirmation book! I discuss how this project came together and how it implements some of the top elements that have fundamentally shifted my mental health. I also reflect on the past year with two children and how we've been trying to embrace the chaos instead of resisting it. I discuss my son's birth a year ago and the initial overwhelm that came with juggling two kids, the guilt I felt over not being able to attend to both at once, and the emotional shift that happened during the 7-9 month postpartum mark. I also share how my kids' relationship with each other has evolved over the past year, why I just don't love the newborn phase, why the mom I was for my firstborn's year one is vastly different from the mom I am today, and more.Key Takeaway / Points:On developing the “Quiet Your Mind and Busy Your Hands” journal and adult coloring affirmationsHow I prioritize my mental healthHow affirmations have fundamentally shifted my mindsetOn resisting the stress of kid's birthdays and letting yourself have fun in the chaosReflecting on my son's birth a year ago and the initial overwhelm with two kidsOn the guilt over not being able to attend to both children at onceOn the shift that occurred during the 7-9 month mark postpartumHow my kids' relationship has evolved over the past yearOn being honest about not loving the newborn phaseOn how different the first year of my kids' lives wereOn the mom I was for my firstborn's year one vs. the mom I am todayOn my relationship with my husband with two kids vs. oneBuy the Quiet Your Mind Journal and Adult Affirmation Coloring Book hereListen to Episode 145: “Breaking the ‘Manic Mom' Mold” episode hereThis episode may contain paid endorsements and advertisements for products and services. They share the most exciting part about parenting teenagers versus the hardest part, how they navigate social media with teens, and why they're developing a course on parenting and social media. On today's episode, I'm chatting with Paige Lindgren, a Certified Hormone Specialist and Pilates Instructor who is passionate about helping women feel their best and find balance, hormone health optimization, and healthy lifestyle choices. Paige also co-founded From Force to Flow, a cycle syncing platform that's full of hormone knowledge and tips for each phase of the menstrual cycle. Together we discuss the different phases of the menstrual cycle & optimization for each one, hormone imbalances and conditions (PCOS, Hashimotos, etc.) and how to test for them/manage symptoms, the impact that cortisol has on feeling safe in our bodies, why getting more protein is so important, long-term effects of blue light exposure, social media & screentime breaks, healthy sleep patterns, the difference between a healthy and dysfunctional thyroid, why over-exercising can cause more harm than good, managing environmental stress, natural vs. hormonal birth control options, exposure to elevated amounts of BPAs and microplastics, honoring cravings during menstruation, and so much more! I love how Paige presents these findings in a way that's both approachable and easy to understand, while creating a safe space for women with shared experiences to discuss their journeys. Today's guest is naturopathic doctor Dr. Saman Faramarzi. Dr. Sam is someone who has guided me physically and spiritually through a lot of my acne journey and completed her naturopathic medical training at Bastyr University. Dr. Sam studied cutting-edge research on mindfulness at the Benson-Henry Institute for Mind Body Medicine at Harvard Medical School. She incorporates her knowledge into private practice and witnesses profound changes in patients just after a few visits. I thought this episode would be an awesome opportunity for my POW audience to have an “appointment” with a naturopath as I recognize that these tests may not be readily available or accessible to everyone - as always take what works and leave what doesn't and I hope you learn something new along the way. On this episode, we get into the seven different tests we ran on me and my results, how health relates to trauma and mental/emotional health, stress roadblocks and clearing pathways to live optimally, principles of Chinese medicine, the importance of healthy gut and liver function as well as microbiome diversity, hormone health and thyroid issues, why food sensitivity is controversial, environmental toxins and how to properly detox, parasites, and simple tips and hacks that can make a huge difference to your health and overall happiness long term. I also address some recent feedback as well as give updates to the protein bar formulation before we get into the episode, so make sure to listen - this ep is full of valuable insights and I can't wait for you to hear it!For Mari's Instagram click here! For Pursuit of Wellness Podcast's Instagram click here! For the SAFA Life and Wellness website click here! For Dr. Sam's Instagram click here!To shop Bloom Nutrition Greens click here! Lauren Garroni and Chelsea Fairless are LA-based fashion writers who start Every Outfit on Sex and the City in 2016. It started as an Instagram feed documenting, you guessed it, every outfit on S.A.T.C., which obviously went viral instantly. The girls grew up in LA but moved to NY - both attended The New School (Lauren and I even had classes together) and have grown account into many verticals, including a book deal (“We Should All Be Mirandas,” from 2019). They now have a podcast discussing, of course, the outfits, but it's really a larger discussion about pop culture, and truly every single detail of what's happening with the now revived And Just Like That. They are intelligent, funny, knowledgeable and quick-witted. I loved having them on and feel like we need a part two after the season ends! Today on the show we have an amazing guest, Thomas Delauer. Thomas is an American author, health expert, YouTube star, and performance coach best known for his work on personal health transformation. Like me, Thomas went through a radical transformation and lost 110 pounds, but learned just as much about his own mental health alongside his physical journey to overcome unhealthy habits and thought patterns. Today, he helps clients around the world transform their lifestyles and I was inspired by our motivational conversation. In this episode, we discuss eating disorder development in kids, body dysmorphia and mental health, OCD & obsessive thinking as an adult, when exercise can become self-harm, shame around food, Thomas's rock-bottom story, intermittent fasting for women and men, keto diet, misconceptions about food and fitness, prioritizing muscle gain while being diet conscious, potential effects of gluten and dairy on autoimmune conditions, and so much more. For Mari's Instagram click here! For Pursuit of Wellness Podcast's Instagram click here! For Thomas's Instagram click here! For Thomas's Youtube click here!To shop Bloom Nutrition Greens click here! Today on the show I had an incredible conversation with Paul Saladino MD, one of the leading experts and authorities on the science and application of the animal-based diet. We covered so many valuable topics, specifically for women, that we plan to release the interview in two parts. Dr. Saladino is board certified as a physician nutrition specialist and completed residency at the University of Washington. He attended medical school at the University of Arizona where he focused on integrative medicine and nutritional biochemistry. He has used these diets to reverse autoimmune issues, chronic inflammation and mental health issues in hundreds of patients, many of whom had been told their conditions were untreatable. In this episode, we discuss the importance of food quality, what western medicine doesn't teach us about nutrition, the connection to plants and autoimmune issues, healing skin issues, benefits of creatine and animal protein, ethical farming, the problem with oats and coffee, SIBO and the gut, why raw dairy, and much more. This conversation can serve as educational regardless of your diet preferences and discusses how anyone can have access to making better consumption choices. On this episode, we discuss the connection to skin and inner wellness, the minimal daily must-have routine you need, products that are too harsh, how to heal acne scars, what the skin barrier does, the benefits (or not) of things like: zit stickers, red & blue light, Botox & fillers, Accutane & Spironolactone, AviClear, Sculptra, and more. Today on the show we are joined by Todd White, the founder of Dry Farm Wines. Todd's passion for biohacking, health & longevity - while also being a wine enthusiast - led him to found Dry Farm Wines in 2015 when he could not find a wine that supported his outlook on health and lifestyle. Todd sought to improve what we put in our bodies after learning the truth about wine industry practices that put profit over people. Today we discuss the three pillars that categorize a natural wine, the harmful hidden ingredients and additives in conventional wine, different standards between domestic and international wines, tips on how to improve alcohol toxicity for optimal health, and much more. In stressful times, Kate seeks out romantic comedies, using the genre's poor grasp on reality to escape her own. So this week, we have a rom-com deep dive done on a whim, following a fateful viewing of the critically-unacclaimed film Something Borrowed. In this episode, Kate goes through some of her favorite films, trends, themes, and theories as it relates to the art of the so-bad-it's-good romantic comedy. She explains the boundaries of her questionable taste, then meanders through the high points from 1989-2003 before she runs out of time, and discusses favorite romcom tropes (e.g friends to lovers, supernatural occurrences, writes article/places bet), trends (e.g. phrases as movie titles, everything about weddings), actor/actress combos & swaps, sound bites, grand gestures, etc. At one point there's a snorkel about Kate's hot takes on Judd Apatow movies and her dependency on Paul Rudd's soothing demeanor. Later on, Kate walks through a spreadsheet she created in chronological order to make sure she doesn't miss any highlights, but she only makes it to 2003, so, see you next week? She will post a spreadsheet link here once it's done for a list you can refer to and/or check on the @bethereinfive @bethereinfivepodcast account for a link.
