Welcome to episode 14! Today we are chatting with Angela Laverghetta. She drops some BIG wisdom and remember it's never too late to follow your dreams. Angela Laverghetta is a Northern Nevada based author, living among the Sierra Mountains, sagging bookshelves, and way too many pets. Born in that liminal space between Gen X and Millennials, her life has been about rapid change in technology—and circumstances. Through it all, she found comfort and (more importantly) escape in reading and writing. Her goal as an author is to provide the same comfort and escape for her readers. The Buried Knight is her first novel. Other published works include a novella previously published with a small press and a short story in The ACES Anthology. Readers can find updates for book 2 by signing up for her newsletter at www.angelalaverghettabooks.com Book Blurb: My name's Imogen Wylde, museum intern and recent inheritor of Wylde Retirement Home. I've spent my entire life pretending I don't see the fae and ghosts, but that doesn't mean they don't see me.Over 1,000 years ago, the veil between the faerie and human realms was sealed by Excalibur, and the knight buried with it. Now Excalibur is missing, the veil is unlocked and some of faerie's most threatening denizens have entered our world. The sword needs to be found so the veil can be closed once again. At least that's the story the mysterious stranger who showed up at my work told me, right after he attempted to steal a priceless artifact. Turns out he also might be a vampire – and Lancelot? Now I'm thrust into the world I've tried so hard to ignore.Carson City, Nevada just got a whole lot weirder. And more dangerous. About Victoria:Hi I'm Victoria a writer & developmental editor. I LOVE supporting sensitive authors write their dream novel. I'm currently writing my debut novel Wild Enough, a rom com centred around Elle's journey navigating anxiety, love and loss in Ireland.Go from daydreaming about writing a book to a finished first draft.Guess what? You don't need to have a fancy degree in creative writing or be an amazing speller (hi, it's me). You've come to the right place if you're a creative mind (like me) wanting to write your first draft with confidence. IG: www.instagram.com/editsbyvictoriaWebsite: https://victoriajaneeditorial.com

Join me, Janel, as I discuss Functional Nutrition and Wellness topics with some of my favorite health experts. This podcast was inspired by time on the trails with other health expert friends and family, discussing, debating, and ultimately working through loads of health topics that impact our day to day wellness and performance. Janel is a board certified nutrition consultant, a certified functional nutritionist, a doctor of natural medicine and a lover of the wild. Janel is passionate about helping people understand their body better so they can improve how they function. Thinking functionally invites us to see how all the body systems are all connected, that each person is unique, and that all the things we do in our life impact health or dis-ease (and everything in between). Thinking functionally means we are always asking WHY.

Whether you're seeking pedigree, a plan or a process, Lanny possesses it all. Chef, restaurateur, entrepreneur, visionary and Fort Worth native, Lanny P. Lancarte II is the owner of Righteous Foods, CHOMP Catering, Eat Fajitas and Ground Control Consulting.Lanny has been a familiar face on the food scene since getting his start at Joe T. Garcia's as a child, from which he set his sails toward a solo journey with his first restaurant, Lanny's Alta Cocina Mexicana. His menus at Alta Cocina were a vibrant work of art, changing with the seasons, giving Lanny's diners innovations that were well before their times and resulted in one of the most targeted culinary destinations in North Texas.Lanny graduated from The Culinary Institute of America in Hyde Park, New York, and Texas Christian University in Fort Worth, Texas majoring in Nutrition. During his youth Lanny took advantage of a number of culinary study tours to Mexico, working with and learning from luminaries like Diana Kennedy and Rick Bayless. Eventually returning to the birthplace of his culinary beginnings, Lanny opened his first dining room deep within the patio gardens at his family's landmark Mexican restaurant, Joe T. Garcia's on Fort Worth's historic North Side. (Creating a “pop up restaurant” before pop ups were even in our vocabulary)Lanny took up a healthy and active lifestyle as seriously as his cooking, which led him to open Righteous Foods. His biking and snowboarding travels alone have landed him on the roads of the Costa Brava in Spain, the Atlas Mountains of Morocco, the Smoky Mountains, the Sierra Mountains, all over the Rockies, the Alpanines of Italy, and the Coastal Range of British Columbia. His travels have provided insight to feed his creativity, with exposure and experience while exploring cuisines around the world and bringing the first all natural all day healthful cafe to Fort Worth in 2014 that still flourishes today.By 2020, Lancarte had been working on a ghost kitchen concept for two years to provide an upscale dining experience delivered to your home. It was quickly launched out of Righteous Foods before he moved Eat Fajitas along with El Pollo Tocayo and Pizza Zapasta to a brick and mortar called Fantasma Kitchens. While working day to day in his restaurants, Lanny has peeled back the onion of restaurant operations, creating bespoke - yet scalable and transferable standards, processes, and procedures to create efficient, profitable businesses. Lanny's heritage, his innate talent, his good nature, and his dedication to excellence and creativity continue to command rave reviews. The most desired distinction, however, is simply knowing he's met or exceeded the expectations of his many patrons. For many of us ... We will go through life learning about individuals who defy the laws of nature ... and wonder if they will ever be fortunate enough to meet someone of this magnitude? ... I can now say .. "I have!". Several months ago, I found myself working late at night, using a movie playing in the background as a source of subtle distraction and timer. As the initial credits began to roll, I was drawn in to the movie by the caption "Based on a True Story". These are often my favorites. Almost instantly, the movie captured my attention, as it dealt with a former World Class hockey player who was trying to find his way in life as he overcame some of his inner demons. The movie starred some incredibly talented actors. The lead character was played by actor Josh Hartnett, and the lead female actress was Mira Sorvino. Two incredible actors, with a long list of famous and acclaimed movies. The movie is "6 Below: Miracle on the Mountain". This movie put forth the incredible story of a man's ultimate "will to survive". Eric LeMarque was a Division-I ice hockey player for Northern Michigan, an NHL Draft Pick of the Boston Bruins, and a former member of the France Men's Olympic team during the 1994 Winter Olympics. To many, Eric's story is almost a "Fairy Tale" come true. But hidden within this dream, rest a "Nightmare of Reality". Eric was preparing to enter a rehabilitation program to rid himself of addiction. On the eve of starting the program, he attempted to take a small escape from life by going on a snowboarding excursion in the Sierra Mountains - alone! This trip would change Eric's life forever. Besides being an incredible athlete, Eric LeMarque is also an author (Crystal Clear ... a journey through life as person attempting to overcome addiction), an entrepreneur, event speaker, and a performance consultant for elite level executives. Needless to say, Eric is busy individual who is constantly striving to help others attain their personal goals while "Re-Setting" his own. Eric is a person who is constantly working to help others reach their optimal best, but in doing such he is constantly pushing the limits of becoming the best version of himself. He truly believes in helping others by setting a good example. Today, Eric is attempting to become an elite level athlete in a manner yet to be achieved. Eric is training within his second athletic passion - snowboarding! This is not just a passion for Eric ... it has become a mission ... Eric is training to become the first athlete to compete in BOTH the Able-Bodied and Disabled Winter Olympic Games (Italy 2026). Upon learning about the numerous trials and tribulations Eric has endured throughout his life, one can easily say that he truly embodies the "Ultimate Will to Endure, Overcome and Survive". Eric is a person whose positive vigor to live life to its fullest is both invigorating and inspiring. But nothing can compete with his positive and energetic personality! Eric's vibrant and electrifying zest to live everyday as if it were his last can only be best described - once you've had the chance to experience him. Not mention ... he is a person who has first hand experience with feeling that today could be his last ... She merged soft celebrity and hard-hitting politics to become a fixture in the American home. (And we didn't even mention “The View”!) Did you know Walters filmed a TV segment dressed as a Playboy bunny a year before Gloria Steinem's famous expose? The woman had one hell of a career.Vice assembled a genuinely diverse panel of nine women to discuss feminism, and oooh boy, it was fascinating. Arguments over abortion, trans women in sports, beauty privilege, #MeToo, the hour-long conversation was a real intersectional shit show. Is feminism dead? Maybe. Definitely. Certainly not. As Sarah says, “Feminism is an ongoing project that shape-shifts over time.” What's cool about the panel is also what made it so contentious. Welcome to our 2nd Episode of 4 in our series about the Mind Body Connection. In this episode we focus on Yoga and all of the amazing benefits it offers. If you have never tried yoga or you have taken a class or 2 but didn't feel like it was for you, we encourage you to listen to this episode and learn a little more about it.There are many different kinds of yoga, so the chance of being able to find one that suits our needs is actually quite high. In this episode we speak to all of the incredible benefits you receive from a yoga practice.  The list is quite lengthy but here are just a few of the physical benefits... increased flexibility, increased strength, muscle toning, increased balance,  weight reductions and circulatory health improvement.  Yoga also has a mental component that makes it so functional and good for the whole body. The breathing, movement and mindfulness components in yoga allow for the mind to calm and thus can lower blood pressure, cortisol levels and create an overall physical and mental feeling of wellbeing. In this episode we share our experiences growing up with yoga and how we employ all of its wonderful benefits today.  We encourage listeners to try out new classes in person if possible because of the opportunity to connect with and create community. There is something really magical about sharing the choreographed movement and breathing with others in the same room, even if you don't know them personally.  Elise talks about the classes that she took from MC Yogi, a very well known Yogi that owns an awesome studio in Point Reyes Ca. His unique techniques and music make his classes incredibly fun and effective. We also suggest trying out yoga classes online if the in-person classes are unaccessible and/or there is apprehension about skill level in a group setting. Adriene Mishler has a phenomenal Youtube yoga practice that she shares with the world. Her practicality, simplicity and humor allow for her to meet the yoga needs of the many. There are even apps that have yoga you can do every day, for example Asana Rebel.  Nicole talks about working at Wanderlust which is an international yoga festival held all over the world. The events take place in beautiful outdoor spaces and there is nothing quite as amazing as taking a yoga class with a couple of hundred people in a huge field surrounded by the Sierra Mountains or a beautiful lake.We encourage you to go try out yoga or give it another shot. The physical and mental health benefits are amazing and the community of people associated with it are pretty darn cool too!!! Are you ready to Dabble in the Art of Yoga? To support this ministry financially, visit: https://www.oneplace.com/donate/1085/29 Watch cable TV for awhile and you’re bound to see a program about buried treasure in the Sierra Mountains or off some Caribbean island. Ever wonder why the searchers hardly ever find anything? An even better question might be what on earth does buried treasure have to do with government bonds and your savings account? Today, Kingdom Advisors President Rob West answers those questions and more. Then it’s your calls at 800-525-7000. The Efficient Markets theory. In the stock market it means that the value of a stock always reaches its perfect selling price barring any outside factors. Now, applying it to buried treasure it works like this the bigger the treasure the more likely someoneelse has already found it. A lot of folks are passing up some buried treasure in the form of government I bonds.Right now about the best you’ll get with your savings or emergency fund in an online bank is around 0.5% interest. Brick and mortar banks are paying far less. But, right now,Series I savings bonds are currently offering 1.68% that’s more than 3 times the online bank rate, and it would pay you $118 a year for a $10,000 emergency fund. An I bond is just another type of U.S.savings bond and it’s guaranteed to keep up with inflation. As with other bonds you get a fixed rate set for the life of the bond. And right now it’s right around zero. If you own an I bond you’ll get semi-annual rateadjustments. In other words, two per year. Right now, that rate change is 0.84%. Double that because you get two of them and your annual interest is just under 1.7%. There’s your buried treasure. And of course, I bonds are backed by the full faith and credit of the U.S. government. Also, interest on I bonds is free from state taxes and possibly federal taxes if you cash in the bond in the same year you pay for college expenses depending on your income. Theydo come with a few restrictions. You have to hang onto them for at least 12 months before you can cash them in. That means you shouldn’t put all of your emergency savings into I bonds in a single year. Also, you can’t buy I bonds through your broker or bank, you can only buy them online at TreasureDirect.gov. There’s nothing wrong with putting a portion of your savings into an I bond if you’re comfortable knowing that you can’t touch it for at least 12 months. If you can do that, you’ll earn almost $120 extra per year on $10,000, sort of like finding buried treasure. Here are a couple of questions we answered from our callers on today’s program: My daughter has been doing my taxes the past few years. She told me that I do not need to file taxes this year since social security is my only income, is that correct? I had an accident a couple years ago and I will be receiving a settlement soon. What is the wise thing to do with the money I will receive? I recently graduated from college. All of my loans are on hold because of Covid. What is the best way to pay these down? How do you know which charities are legitimate? Is it wise to refinance right now? Ask your questions at (800) 525-7000 or email them toQuestions@MoneyWise.org. The BIG HORN Episode of Endurance Horse Podcast  Episode 21      Welcome to  The Big Horn 100 episode of    Endurance Horse Podcast Created July 27/28th 2019 (yes I pulled an all nighter again Daryl Owen)   Hello and Welcome to episode 21 of Endurance Horse Podcast! I’m Christina Hyke, an equine photographer based in Southern Wisconsin Today is July 27th, 2019.     When I learned that both Bridget and Dante were headed to the Big Horn 100 it inspired me to dedicate this episode of Endurance Horse Podcast to the Big Horn 100. The Big Horn 100 predates the creation of the AERC, American Endurance Ride Conference, that is an impressively long running ride!  If you have been doing endurance very long, chances are you have heard of the Big Horn 100.      Shell, Wyoming is the base camp of the legendary Big Horn 100 mile, 1 day ride.  Twice this ride has been host to the Race of Champions, and a champion you must be to ride from the elevation of 4,000 feet rising to the climb of 10,000 feet elevation.  The Big Horn is a single loop of some of the most challenging, rugged and beautiful trail that America has to offer.  It has been told to me by more than one rider that the difficulty of this trail rivals that of the Tevis Cup.  I, personally, cannot say, as I have not ridden either trail, though I feel honored to share the stories from this trail with you, and maybe some of you are hearing about this ride for the first time and will hear the call of the Big Horn Mountains and take up the challenge to ride through climbing mountains, wild flowers and wild weather.  Can you hear it?  The Big Horn is calling you.   This year Big Horn 100 was managed by Cindy Collins.  Cindy loves this ride and from all the good feedback I have seen online and in the files that have been sent to the podcast, the riders truly love Cindy and the Big Horn- the descriptions given have surely made the Big Horn a ride to aspire to and one to never forget.  I am thankful to each of the riders who took the time to share their audio from Big Horn 2019.  One of my favorite audios is from a rider traveled all the way from Maryland to see the Big Horn, one of her bucket list rides, get checked off of her list.  Peggy Thompson has been riding endurance longer than the current AERC website has been keeping records.  Peggy will share her journey on the 50 mile endurance ride at the Big Horn 2019, though before she does, here is a short history of the Big Horn.    Greybull, Wyoming, 1970 was the setting for a meeting of the Canyon Cavaliers Saddle Club.  It was during this meeting that local rider, Dale Perkins mentioned an article he had read about a 100 mile, 1 day ride that traversed over the Sierra Mountains in California.  The beloved Big Horn mountain was right in the backyard of the Canyon Cavaliers Saddle Club and Dale said that  there was no reason why there couldn’t be a ride like one that hosted here, over the club’s much loved Big Horn Mountains in Wyoming.       The idea was well received by the club, though they needed help to create such a ride.  They sought out advice from a Laramie veterinarian who they had heard had actually ridden in the Western States 100 Mile One Day ride, also known as the Tevis Cup.   The young veterinarian Dr. David Nicholson agreed to travel to Greybull and share his insight into what it would take to manage a 100 mile, 1 day endurance ride in the Big Horn Mountains.   And, thus, with a good idea, much homework and  planning, the Big Horn 100 Mile, Inc. was formed, Tom Van Gelder was elected first president and created The Big Horn 100, Inc into a 501 c3 non-profit.    So there you have it, in the fall of 1970  the concept of the Big Horn 100 began and the organization of the 501 c3 called the Big Horn 100, Inc. was established in 1971.  The AERC, American Endurance Ride Conference was established in 1972.   Thanks to all the riders who sent in, we have another great collection of ride stories.  Head on over to our facebook group to connect with more of the story through the images/videos that riders share there.     Without further ado, I bring to you the Big Horn episode of Endurance Horse Podcast, may you be encouraged, inspired and find a few riders you can relate to or at the very least, laugh with!  Please let me know how you are enjoying the podcast by sending us an email.     Check out the links provided in the show notes as they have additional links to resources that relate to riders or events mentioned in the podcast.   Email your audio stories to endurancehorsepodcast@gmail.com  Ideally the files should be from two to 7 minutes in length.   The Riders of Episode 21 Cindy Collins Wyoming, The recent atmospheric rivers or long, narrow regions in the atmosphere that carry concentrated water vapor dumped massive amounts of snow in the Sierra Mountains. Mammouth Mountain in the Sierras received more than 37 feet of snow since winter began. Start of 2019, California’s snowpack was at 67 percent. After the atmospheric rivers, the snowpack has risen to over 136 percent. This is good news for the drought-ridden state of California. In recent years, California has even tapped out its groundwater basins. The snowpack will provide California with much needed fresh water. But it isn’t all good news. Stay tuned next time. Imagine climbing a narrow gully of snow lined with rock faces and cliffs in the Sierra Mountains. In the cacophonous silence of this remote landscape, you hear every morsel of your breath and every crack of snow beneath you. Before you lies a 50-degree pitch on your ascent to the top and although you've been climbing for hours the sky still seems so far away. You've never been more awake in your life. You are strapped to a child's plastic sled with only the use of your arms as the carrier to your destination. Your life is clenched tightly around a pull-up bar tethered on belay and every inch of the climb delivers searing pain that weighs heavy on your already exhausted body and mind. With seemingly nothing left to give, how do you continue? When everything in his body told him that he had nothing left, Jeremy would exceed his limitations and complete another pull-up. He knew that if he could give 100% of himself to each one, despite the overwhelming fatigue and discomfort, that he would gain maximum travel towards reaching the top of the mountain that haunted him for seven years. Bloody Couloir is a coveted ski and snowboard destination in the Mammoth Lakes region and the spot where Jeremy showed us all what it means to put inspiration into action. A runner at heart, he was left without the use of his legs after a motorcycle accident in 2001 but that has clearly not stopped this athlete from crushing his goals. Jeremy possesses a mass amount of grit and will and through his loss, he is exploring a whole new level of what is possible. This is a must-listen, must-share conversation and we thank you deeply for your support of the show. In "The Little Girl Who Dared" by Henry Lanier you'll hear the story of the disastrous plight of the Donner Party, when a large group of emigrants traveling to California were trapped in the Sierra Mountains for months as a result of early snows. The courage of a small girl in bringing aid to her father, who had been turned out of the party, turned out to be a critical factor in the survival of half the group, in this true pioneer story. Its an excellent account of the hardships that early emigrants faced on their way to a new life in the American West. Did Jesus condone cannibalism? - Episode 7-37, February 6, 2017

A daily devotional through the recorded words Jesus spoke while He walked alongside us. Our website http://alittlewalkwithgod.com. Thanks for joining me today for "A Little Walk with God." I'm your host Richard Agee. Cannibalism is one of the most taboo practices throughout the civilized world. We revolt at even the thought of the action. What would you do if Jesus hinted at the practice when He talked to you? That's just what some of those around Him were thinking one day. Scripture John 6:43-51 Jesus: Stop grumbling under your breaths. If the Father who sent Me does not draw you, then there's no way you can come to Me. But I will resurrect everyone who does come on the last day. Among the prophets, it's written, “Everyone will be taught of God.” So everyone who has heard and learned from the Father finds Me. No one has seen the Father, except the One sent from God. He has seen the Father. I am telling you the truth: the one who accepts these things has eternal life. I am the bread that gives life. Your fathers ate manna in the wilderness, and they died as you know. But there is another bread that comes from heaven; if you eat this bread, you will not die. I am the living bread that has come down from heaven to rescue those who eat it. Anyone who eats this bread will live forever. The bread that I will give breathes life into the cosmos. This bread is My flesh. Devotional If you studied much history about the settlement of the west, you've heard of the Donner Party. George Donner led 89 pioneers out of Springfield, Illinois in April 1846 on their way to California. They took a new, supposedly shorter route scouted by a guide that led them into some pretty treacherous terrain. The party became trapped in the high Sierra Mountains in late October due to heavy snowfall and the legends of the day continue that the party survived only by resorting to cannibalism. They finally arrived in California the next year. Why bring up the Donner Party? We still remember their means of survival 160 years later. We view cannibalism as a most heinous crime Jeffrey Dahmer, Peter Bryan, Ed Gein (serial killer which inspired the character for Silence of the Lamb Wikipedia 50 reports between April 2000 and August 2016, 28 since 2010 We're revolted by the thought Imagine the reaction when Jesus gave these words, “Anyone who eats this bread will live forever. The bread that I will give breathes life into the cosmos. This bread is my flesh. Sounded like cannibalism to those who heard His message on the surface Without listening to all He had to say and trusting Him, His message caused revolt The world hated His message when they thought He talked to eating His flesh How would you react? We live on this side of the cross and understand the symbolism Jesus shared with those who heard His words that day. We understand He gave Himself for us and we partake in the remembrance of Jesus' death through the sacrament of the Lord's Supper, Communion, the Eucharist, whatever name you choose to call that special remembrance of God's sacrifice for us. Can you understand why the world, without faith, hates us? Can you begin to see why non-believers revolt at the mention of Jesus' name? Never condoned the practice of cannibalism Must understand He wants us to consume Him, the word, God's message, the reason for His coming, devour everything He brings to us Become a spiritual cannibal Until we believe that Jesus' words are true and draw close to Him in faith, we will not enjoy the life eternal He promises. Until we begin to consume Him in every part of our life, we cannot enjoy all He has in store for us. If you want to learn more about my church, you can find us at SAF.church. If you like the devotional, share it with someone. If you don't, tell me. I hope you'll join me again tomorrow for "A Little Walk with God."

John Barron is a full-time blacksmith in Georgetown, CA.  He began working with metal in a large fabrication shop in Oakland, California in 1975 and learned. Today, he specializes in architectural ironwork and will be one of the demonstrators at the ABANA 2016 Conference in Salt Lake City, Utah. What We Talked About John learned his trade from an Italian trained smith in a union iron-working shop in Oakland, California during the 1970's and 80's. He joined the Shopmen Ironworkers Union and worked in a large fabrication shop. One of the main skills he learned was how to design, build and install stair railings. In 1989 John left the Ironworks Union after being vested with them for 10 years. He moved to the Sierra Mountains and began working for Auburn Ironworks, the oldest running blacksmith shop in northern California. A few years after hiring John, the company downsized and let him go. This pushed John to start his own blacksmithing business. After five years of running the business he took a hard look at his expenses and income and found out that he was making about $7/hour, which wasn’t sustainable. So he shut the business down and went to work for other fabricators. Eventually he moved to Georgetown and stated another blacksmith business. In between metal jobs John does shoe repair for additional income. John will be demonstrating how to design, measure, layout and install a stair railing. 46 feet of railing will be the goal to be finished and installed on-site for a handicap ramp. The railing will be a collaborative project and John is asking for participants to help make the railing and also make 18 rings for the railing. The rings are to be made from 1” x ¼” flat bar, bent into a 7” circle the easy way and forge welded.  Your design can go on the inside of the ring, but will need to allow space on the sides for collaring and on the top for a rivet.  More details here: http://www.piehtoolco.com/abana/2016%20ABANA%20RAILING-Layout1.pdf If you plan on making a ring, please let John know by email, john@barroncreations.com . John is hoping to have six forging stations for participants to work in pairs assisting in making the railing components. The ideal participant will have level 2 blacksmith skills.   Guest Links John’s Website: http://www.barroncreations.com/ His page on the ABANA Conference website: http://www.abana.org/Conferences/2016/contents/en-us/d10_John_Baron_SP_.html A Big Thank You to today’s sponsor – ABANA 2016 Salt Lake Conference Maybe more pictures If you enjoyed this episode, I would love it if you would support the show by: telling your friends. sharing this episode using the social sharing buttons below. subscribing to the show and leaving a rating and review in iTunes.  Not sure how?  Just follow these simple steps here or watch the short video tutorial, http://youtu.be/rq4OCyRGjHc?list=UUH3MfNZLXlKgionAs6kMT_Q subscribing to the show in Stitcher, http://www.stitcher.com/s?fid=54499&refid=stpr Thanks so much for your support!

"The Legend of Snowshoe Thompson" is one of the most enduring tales of the American West. A Norwegian immigrant, Thompson tried his hand at gold mining during the gold rush in California and Nevada but when he married, he went to work delivering mail through the snowed in passes of the Sierra Mountains of Eastern California and Western Nevada, fashioning "snowshoes" mounted on long pieces of oak, and becoming an expert at cross country and downhill skiing. For twenty years he brought desperately needed food, and supplies to stranded towns, sometimes saving lives in the process. His story and the perils he faced are the stuff of legend. The Silent Year tells of a tumultuous, transformative year for eight-year-old Paul Kinsel, who abruptly stops speaking shortly after moving to a new home in the Sierra Mountains. No one except his mother really knows why. But over time people in his small town realize that little Paul is the perfect person to tell secrets to, secrets they’ve been dying to tell someone, somewhere. And as they do Paul learns of local lies, affairs, crimes and even the stunning truth about a popular teenager’s mysterious disappearance. But it’s the devastating secret between his mother and father that eventually forces Paul to emerge from his selective mutism and embark on a crusade of family reconciliation. It’s 1977. Vietnam veterans struggle as plumbers and repairmen to make ends meet in rugged mountain country. Episodes of M.A.S.H. flicker through television rabbit ears. Radio DJs rumor of a Beatles reunion. Newspaper headlines are transfixed on Patti Hearst and Jimmy Carter. And kids like Paul Kinsel can’t wait until a new film called Star Wars hits theaters in May. For two decades David Emerick has worked as a journalist, writing stories for newspapers and television for the Associated Press, The Washington Post and other agencies, and has long been an independent indie rock musician with numerous records.

Today, we're going to share a few reasons why people really enjoy living in the Roseville and Sacramento region. We've put together a list of the top 4 reasons why our area is a great place to live! Let's dive right in:1. Location: In one direction, we are only 2 hours from Lake Tahoe. In the other direction, we are only 2 hours from San Francisco! Tahoe is one of the most beautiful lakes in the world. Located high in the Sierra Mountains, the Lake Tahoe area has world-class skiing, camping, fishing, boating, and sailing, among many other activities. San Francisco: If you go the other direction, you can expose yourself to the cultural vibrancy of the Bay Area. Drive across the beautiful Golden Gate Bridge and experience the many cultural and historical landmarks this great city has to offer! 2. Recreation: Within a 30-minute drive from the Roseville/Sacramento area, there are numerous recreation options. Folsom Lake is within 10 minutes of our office. It's a great place to fish, water-ski, sail, or just enjoy the many trails around the lake.American River Bike Trail features over 30 miles of bike trails that run from Folsom Lake to Old Town Sacramento. It runs along the American River, so you can enjoy incredible views and wildlife on your journey.Sacramento River is a great place to enjoy boating, fishing, or spending an evening at one of the many restaurants overlooking the scenery of the river. Mountain and road cycling are also available. 3. History and Culture: There's no shortage of culture and history in the area! The Gold Rush of 1849 started right here in the Sacramento area, and it has left behind many old mining towns in its wake. Some of these mining towns have sprouted up into major cities, such as Folsom, Sacramento, and Auburn. Many of these areas have original boardwalks you can walk along and see some of the original structures that were built in the gold rush days. The Transcontinental Railroad started here in Sacramento, not in San Francisco as most people think.Arts: We have the Crocker Art Museum, the Railroad Museum, the Governor's Mansion, the Capitol Building, as well as a wide assortment of art from the local area. Shopping: The Roseville Galleria Mall is the premier shopping center in the region, and just across the street you can find the Fountain Square, a very attractive shopping mall with many interesting things to see.4. Overall Quality of Life: People love to work and play here!Affordability: Living in this wonderful area is completely affordable, especially when compared with the nearby Bay Area. You can get a nice size home, on a nice lot, with many features and amenities, and you don't have to deal with the traffic congestion you'll find in metropolitan areas.Quality education: You'll find some of the best high schools in the state of California in Placer County.   There are many reasons why we think our area is one of the best places to live in California. If you have any questions about our list, or if you would like us to show you around the area, give us a call or shoot us an email. I have to start the show notes out with something that has become glaringly apparent to me and yes, I know it seems obvious, but there is such a difference between "getting something" and "understanding something". The more I write and engage the easier it gets. I can't seem to write a post that is less than 1000 words! Whaaaaat? (this is one of my favorite new sayings, which I stole from Vince Vaughn and Owen Wilson in the movie "The Internship", which isn't an academy award winning movie but was a fun, enjoyable afternoon at the movies with my son). I'm not even kind of complaining... I'm having a ball! BUT... bom bom bom.... of course now I start seeing posts about how shorter posts are better (think post formats, which if you're not sure what they are I've got a post and video coming soon), and how single author blogs are dead. REALLY? Oy  vey. I don't think so. There will always be trends, "new fangled fancy pants" ways of doing things but at the end of the day providing quality content will always work. Period. End of story. Full stop. (can't believe I used the statement 'new fangled'...) By the comments I'm receiving on these lengthy posts I'm not too worried. I'm receiving more comments than I ever have before and am building some amazing new relationships! So do yourself a favor... go ahead and read the latest and greatest news about what's working online, take it all and and then see what sticks! Think of it like panning for gold (I've actually done this! My parents live about an hour east of the Sierra Mountains, so we've actually panned for gold in 'them thar hills'... what is up with my lingo today?). When you pan for gold you scoop a bunch of of 'stuff' out of the river, but then you clear through all the crap to find the gold. You may only find a tiny nugget, but that tiny nugget is worth far more than a HUGE bucket of pebbles, rocks and sand (or whatever else you may find in the river). [sws_divider_basic] The Best Advice I've Ever Received Kind of a bold claim, I know. Of course when I had this 'nudge' to share this as the best advice I've ever received it felt like "BAM!" That's powerful! Now as I write this I'm thinking,  "hmm... is this the BEST advice I've ever received?" Aah... my sidekick, the 'overthinker' has shown up. I'll push my sidekick aside and leave this as is, because no matter what you're doing, what area of your life you apply this to, it's going to pay off. I live by the saying that "you don't regret the things you do, you only regret the things you don't do." The best advice I ever received was actually in reference to my past relationship (promise I won't go all Dr. Phil on you here, not how I roll. Wayne Dyer yes, Dr. Phil, no). It was in the first couple of months of the relationship (you know, the 'honeymoon' phase) and I was on cloud 9. I was talking to my therapist about it (well, giggling like a school girl is more like it) and here's what she said to me: "Go ALL in Kim!" There was more to the conversation than that, but the overall message was give it all you've got. If it doesn't work out you can at least look back and know you gave it everything and savored every moment. Of course she was right. It didn't end the way I had hoped it would, but I have no regrets. 90 percent of the time it was great. And like most things that end (relationships, friendships, businesses...whatever), I can see now that there is no way I could have spent my life with him, but I know without a doubt that I went ALL in! This is a question you need to ask yourself about your business. Are you going 'ALL' in or are you playing at your business? How to determine if you're ALL in Here's the thing. This is going to look different for each person, so there isn't really a system or task list that will help you determine if you're going all in. You're the only one who can determine that. But YOU know on a gut level if you're going "ALL in" or if you'...
