Spooky SZN continues, Slackers! This week we break down the “top 36” 80's horror flicks as ranked by Slashfilm. While I can't say I agree with the exact order of these movies - and admittedly some I've never seen - the top 10 is pretty solid. The 80's was peak horror in many ways, with not only slashers, but great tales of hauntings, monster movies, body horror, and worst of all - the evils of man. Some of the best directors of all time got their start in horror, so the list is full of absolute masters of the genre. Names like Cronenberg, Carpenter, Craven, and Cameron. Let's not forget Raimi, Romero, and Hooper. The 80's brought us Xenomorphs, Freddy, Jason, Pinhead & Chucky. But it was little Carol Anne that really scared us! What are your favorite horror films of the 80s?
Book Vs. Movie: The FlyThe 1957 Short Story Vs. the 1986 MovieThe Margos feature The Fly this month with special guest Patrick Bromley, who hosts the excellent F This Movie podcast. The 1957 short story and the 1986 film share the core premise of a scientist merging with a fly during a teleportation experiment, but they have different approaches. George Langelaan's story focuses on the emotional and ethical fallout, depicting science as perilous when unchecked. David Cronenberg's adaptation emphasizes the grotesque consequences of scientific overreach, blending body horror with a profound sense of loss.Langelaan's story explores guilt, tragedy, and the limits of science, while Cronenberg's film focuses on the horror of losing one's humanity physically and mentally. Both versions are haunting, but Cronenberg's film expands the original premise into a deeply personal horror, highlighting the darker sides of human ambition. "Have you ever dreamt of a better version of yourself?"That's not only the tagline for this movie but for the fictional experimental drug which is offer to our main protagonist. Demi Moore (Ghost, Indecent Proposal) plays Elizabeth Sparkle, a middle-aged actress/fitness guru who has been fired from the TV show she hosts on her 50th birthday. She feels rejected, cast aside, and fearful of losing more of what made her a star. And then comes a mysterious invitation to try a black market drug called "The Substance" which offers her a seemingly enticing opportunity to reverse the aging process.....or does it? :o Of course she decides to partake in this experiment and what results is in fact a younger version of herself played by Margaret Qualley (Drive Away Dolls, Poor Things) who names herself Sue. However based on several specific rules laid out for the titular substance , BOTH versions are not scientifically able to walk and breathe at the same time. And needless to say as those rules are NOT followed to the T, several complications ensue.....several NASTY complications. Winner of the Best Screenplay Award at this year's Cannes Film Festival, this film has received a lot of buzz and acclaim since then. Directed by Coralie Fargeat as a follow up to her cult hit from 2018 named Revenge, this nutso satirical thriller might be best described as Death Becomes Her meets The Fly meets Requiem for a Dream....NOT for the squeamish. ;) Host & Editor: Geoff GershonProducer: Marlene GershonSend us a texthttps://livingforthecinema.com/Facebook:https://www.facebook.com/Living-for-the-Cinema-Podcast-101167838847578Instagram:https://www.instagram.com/livingforthecinema/Letterboxd:https://letterboxd.com/Living4Cinema/

The sweetness at CinemaCon 2022 isn't only on the screen.Rob isn't on the road today ... at least, not in his car.Today through Thursday, Rob is in Las Vegas with John Campea and the rest of the crew from The John Campea Show as they provide live coverage of CinemaCon 2022, the annual trade show and expo for theater owners and operators from throughout North America.Rob told us that this morning, he had an opportunity to sit in on the presentation from NEON films, the distributors behind David Cronenberg's new film: CRIMES OF THE FUTURE. If you're an Imagination Connoisseur who happens to listen to Rob's ROBSERVATIONS show, you know how stoked Rob is for this film. (He covers it pretty extensively in episode #797.)We already knew CRIMES OF THE FUTURE was a bonkers concept film, the type of thing that only David Cronenberg can make. But according to Rob, the preview shown to exhibitors today was nuts. You'll have to listen to Rob's impressions of how the crowd reacted to get the full effect (of course, Rob isn't about to spill any spoiler-y details). The film opens at Cannes next month, but pre-screenings reported people feinting during the third act of the film and others walking out, they were so disturbed by what they saw on the screen. It's been a while since we've seen a film evoke such a reaction.Rob also discussed the new David Bowie documentary project in the pipeline at NEON as well as some other insights about the convention and state of the industry, in general. It sounds like everyone is pretty excited by the opportunities this summer brings at the box office (and that's a good thing)! Then, for good measure, our conversation took a typical, ROADTRIPPIN' turn and we headed down a rabbit hole in our conversation that's probably more appropriate for Willy Wonka than an actual rabbit. You see, Rob and I started talking about movie candy.Cinemacon isn't just about movies. It's about a movie exhibition. And that means they have vendors exhibiting who cover every aspect of the business. That includes concessions. And that includes candy.Rob and I debated the best cherry licorice-maker (Rob is wrong, by the way), our favorite sweet-n-salty snacks (we're both big on Peanut M&Ms), and our mutual admiration for the products manufactured by Ferrara Candy Company: Lemonheads, Atomic Fireballs, and especially Red Hots (Rob's fave). That leads us to today's question: What is your favorite movie treat? We want to know what you think. You can do that by sending us a letter.Just click on the "Contact Us" button in the main navigation of our website at postgeeksingularity.com and you'll be able to send us a message to let us know how we're doing and what's on your mind.We look forward to hearing from you.I invite you to listen in on my weekday conversations with my friend and business partner, Robert Meyer Burnett, as we talk about the things we love: great movies, inspiring television programming, nostalgic genre entertainment, and pop culture. This episode streamed on April 26, 2022.

What are the scariest movies you've seen? Zombies, haunted houses, werewolves....what is it that gets your heart pumping? Jay and Shua crossover with 31 Days of Horror to talk about what keeps them up at night on Enjoy Stuff. Jay and Shua compile a list of the movies that keep them up at night but are still fun. This week's Enjoy Stuff looks at all sub-genres of horror and which films rise (backside up) to the top. News -Mel Brooks's History of the World part 2 will finally show us more of what we imagine real history to be -Toy catalogs may be a little different, but Amazon sent one this year that remind us of all the nostalgic fun of making your holiday list. -Speaking of toys, the Fisher Price Chatter Telephone can now make real phone calls. What we're Enjoying Shua learned a lot about an actor he's always admired in Val. It's an emotional no-holds-barred documentary about Val Kilmer put together from hundreds of hours and years of personal video footage. Jay has tried to cleanse his horror film binge watching by revisiting two classics: Chinatown and The Two Jakes with Jack Nicholson. Enjoy Movies Some movies are memorable because of the intense screaming we experience when watching them. Jay and Shua compile a list of their favorite scare fests. An American Werewolf in London has made a big impression on both the guys. And it's created some scary moments during their childhood. (Plus a few nightmares) Jay likes the suspense and drama of movies like The Shining and Phantasm. Shua gets his scary kicks from more modern day films like The Sixth Sense and Get Out. Another couple movies that define Jay's taste include some outer space aspects such as Alien, or John Carpenter's classic The Thing. Shua prefers the humor in the horror remake/spoof Young Frankenstein. No matter what your taste is, sometimes you can have fun with a little adrenaline. Scary movies can bring us together and create a few laughs, along with the shouts. What are your scariest movies? Do you like haunted houses or aliens? Zach & Zo brush off their lab coats to explore the lab of a mad scientist; well, he's not mad at first. It came to pass that by way of a combination of a drunken night of jealousy and a teleportation accident a mild mannered scientist slowly descends into that status of a mad scientist . . . and, as a bonus, over time he realizes that he's mutating into a human/fly hybrid. www.backlookcinema.comEmail: fanmail@backlookcinema.comTwitter: @backlookcinemaFacebook: The Back Look Cinema Podcast Instagram: backlookcinemapodcastBack Look Cinema Merch at Teespring.comBack Look Cinema Merch at Teepublic.com

Wees bang. Wees heel bang. Want wij zullen jullie onderwijzen over het vlees. ** *september is niet de maand van de liefde. ** Sorry dat het zo lang duurde. Hebben jullie ons net zo hard gemist als wij jullie?
Be afraid... Be very afraid! We're back! This week I was joined by Andy Blythe, cine enthusiast and all round good bloke. We picked apart the astonishingly weepy 'The Fly' (1986) from David Cronenberg. It's a great flick about a man that mutates into a human/fly hybrid, and it's way more tender than it sounds. This slender film stars the terrific Jeff Goldblum, hand acting his little argyle socks off, and it also includes the great actress, Geena Davis, who plays anguish better than anyone throughout this tremendous movie. Please rate and review the podcast, it helps us soar up the charts and achieve world domination.
Part Vrienden, Part Maatjes, All Gelul!

It's IPO day plus one for Roblox Corporation (NYSE:RBLX), the red-hot gaming hub that's entertained our kids all through the pandemic. Yesterday, as you've probably heard, Roblox debuted on the NYSE after noon, shooting straight from its $45 "reference price" to begin trading at $64.50, ultimately closing the day up 7.7% at $69.50. Roblox's astonishingly good performance yesterday wasn't actually a huge surprise. Although the NYSE had set a reference price of $45 on the shares, based on their last-known cost in a private transaction, early indications on TheFly.com from bids coming in suggested the stock would begin trading much higher. As early as 10:30 a.m., in fact -- three hours before the first trade was executed -- TheFly pegged the stock as "indicated to open at $60-$65" a share. Still, as the shares wobble from higher to merely high on their first full day of trading, investors are clearly playing it by ear, uncertain how much they should be paying for a share of Roblox. This is the nature of direct-listing IPOs. What's going on Internet, Analytic here aka Dreamz and I would like to welcome you to mine, which I call the Notorious Mass Effect Podcast! Let's debate the debates, Typhoid Donald Trump, Joe Biden's campaign, Election2020, Covid-19 and that's just where we begin this week on The Halli Casser-Jayne Show with Matthew Cooper. The Halli Casser-Jayne Show is available at Halli Casser-Jayne dot com, on all your favorite apps, and on your Alexa device, too. As we do every week, Halli and her partner in politics, veteran White House correspondent Matthew Cooper, take a deep dive into the current political landscape in their weekly snap, crackle and pop conversation. And what a week it has been. Donald Trump tested positive for Covid-19, was dramatically medevacked to Walter Reed Medical Center, took us all on a wild ride through the streets of D.C., waving his hand as if he was the Queen of England. But hey, Trump was just beginning. After returning to the White House Trump gave us more drama when he played the part of Argentine dictator Juan Peron on the White House balcony “don't cry for me tra la la.” Finally, there was the Vice-Presidential debate and just when you thought it couldn't get any crazier, a fly landed on the tarmac that is Mike Pence's thick patch of white hair, and they say Gd works in mysterious ways. There's more, tune in. You don't want to miss Halli's brilliant prediction, too! Let's debate the debates, Donald Trump, Joe Biden, Kamala Harris, Mike Pence, Election2020, Trump's Covid-19 diagnosis--it's a wild ride this week for Halli and Matt -- and the fly on The Halli Casser-Jayne Show with Matthew Cooper, always available at Halli Casser-Jayne dot com, on all your favorite apps, and on your Alexa device too. With guest host and special effects makeup artist Noelle Hetzel, Elisabeth and Lindsay discuss their favorite makeups as well as which movies successfully and artfully incorporated both practical and CGI elements and which ones leaned too heavily on CGI and veered into the uncanny valley. Also in this episode, Elisabeth compares the development times between the Dragon Age games and how that affected each game and where the developers put their focus for Dragon Age 2.

Continuing with our director retrospective on David Cronenberg, we discuss his massively successful 1986 re-make of The Fly (SPOILERS). How does it compare to the original film from 1958 as well as Cronenberg's other films? You'll never know... unless you listen to this show. As always, we end the episode with our picks for Weekly Movie Recommendations. 02:30 - Honeymoon 06:12 - The Drop 10:27 - David Cronenberg's The Fly 1:05:07 - Weekly Movie Recommendations
The Fly is what happens when Cronenberg gets his hands on a decent story and hires some decent actors. He's back in his element with all the technofear and cartoonish gore. All three of us liked this one and pretty much agree that it's a classic. Goldblum is awesome and the drug metaphor takes this film to the next level artistically. Remake? What? Why? Where? Who? Crazy.Check out the podcast
