You probably all know it as a fact: there are THREE phases of Water. But what if we challenged this? Gerald Pollack and his research team are formal: there is, indeed a Fourth Phase of Water! So, what is this 4th phase? Where can you find it? How does it form? What does it imply? We dive into Exclusion Water - or EZ Water, to understand how this discovery may change what we know of water and its role in many phenomenons. Wanna join the discussion? You read it right: in order to be affordable, water needs to be more expensive. Counter-intuitive, right? Yet, like it or not, the safe supply of drinking water at our tap is the most affordable way to solve our need for Water. And that comes with some costs, that shall be covered through Water Tariffs... in order to push out of business "Water Dealers" of all kinds! In this Bonus Episode, we're covering:
The Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution is the world's leader in ocean discovery, exploration, and education, working to understand and sustain one of humanity's most precious common resources.

GF Piping Systems is, besides the proud sponsor of this podcast, a world leader in flow solutions. It produces and markets a water network pressure management solution that aims to reduce non-revenue water, fight water scarcity and improve water network performance.

This is of course very subjective. But how did we go from "hardly treated" to "treated hardly" in a bit over a century? Because it was the right thing to do, sure. But also, because of some pioneers! I made a top 5 - but I'm also sharing the ones, that could have made it to the top, and didn't do by a nose. So, here are our 5 most influential people, according to my book: 5️ The Man who defied a US President 4️ The Water Detective that triggered an Industry Revolution 3️ The Man that triggered desalination - and got a dismal reward 2️ The Man that made Drinking Water "Pure and Wholesome" 1️ The Technology, that's somehow in my garden Do you have more? With Global Warming around, the Idea of Iceberg Towing to produce Drinking Water sounded to me as - at best - opportunistic. That's where I was wrong! What if I told you, that out of the wide array of possible options, the one consisting of towing an iceberg from Antarctica to the aridest places of the World (Dubai, Perth, Cape Town...) may well be much less insane than what you thought? Seriously. The World will miss 40% of its needed Water in 2030. It's maybe time to get creative, so suspend your disbelief: Iceberg Water may REALLY be a sustainable solution! From the Emirates to South Africa, through the USA, France, and Antarctica, I went down the Rabbit Hole. *** ➡️ Do you like this short format, answering one key question/topic? Design Thinking is a methodology and a tool in the toolbox. But beyond the tool, it's about the execution: how you do it, how you prepare the playground for your teams to go crazy.
You may be the world's two largest Water Companies, yet have quite a terrible track record when it comes to Mergers and Acquisitions.

Episode 2 (Season 2) of the Empowering Women Podcast GUEST: Cindy Wallis-Lage, President of Global Water Business Line, Black & Veatch Cindy Wallis-Lage holds a B.S. in Civil Engineering and an M.S. in Environmental/Environmental Health Engineering. She has over 30 years of experience in the water/wastewater space. She joins us on this episode of the Empowering Women Podcast to discuss perspectives on growing into leadership, and opportunities she sees in the infrastructure world. Notable Quotes: “I call it the power of a moment - when something interjects and totally redirects what it is that you're doing. And I had that fortunate experience… he [the dean of engineering] said, ‘Why aren't you in engineering. You're obviously strong in math and science…' He took thirty minutes and explained what Civil Engineering could be, and I went ahead and enrolled right then and never looked back.” “[In engineering] women are still in the minority. And, therefore, regardless of what your role is, you have to treat it as an opportunity that you can raise the bar regarding the acceptance of women.” “For me it was being consistent in my walk and talk, being respectful, being present, leaning into conversations - making sure my voice was heard, not just because I wanted to talk a lot, but rather being heard such that when I was communicating I was doing it in a respectful manner… and my opinion was impactful.” “We need to call out [unconscious bias] and highlight it... Sometimes we have to find a way to break or at least highlight it, and that's the way to change things. My focus continues to be on how I can help break any of those biases about female leadership and make sure those opportunities are there for those” “[Success] didn't happen just because it's what I wanted. Yes, I was driving, however I had great advocates, great support systems, and mentors - inside the company, outside the company - that allowed me to be successful. Sometimes [they were] pushing me, sometimes pulling me. And all of that makes a difference. No one is successful on their own. ” “Don't wait for [advocates] to come to you. Ask people to help you. Ask if they are willing to support you and work with you and how you would to be able to work with them to help further your own career, and what you're trying to achieve.” “I think that frustration happens when people become too isolated in what they're trying to achieve as opposed to looking for a team. I need ‘team Cindy' if you want to look at it from that standpoint. Who's going to help me be successful. How do I engage those people that are going to make a difference. ” “We need to have tremendous communications skills. The biggest challenge you have is when we resort to communications just with emails or texting or however we're doing it in an electronic manner as opposed to just pick up the phone or sit in a meeting and to have those conversations… There's so much that comes with body language.” “That emotional intelligence of being able to understand people, to be able to communicate with people, to understand how to talk to different individuals based on their personality types - really important as you are seeking to mature through your career and have leadership roles. It isn't just the technical... It's also about how do you work with the team and then how do you lead a team. So being an effective team player, and then being effective at how do you lea
Introducing Riggs Eckelberry: Today's guest is the founder and CEO of the innovative water technology company, OriginClear, which is delivering water solutions for industrial customers worldwide. OriginClear has developed and licensed an invention that treats industrial and agricultural waste water with very little energy, and no chemicals. And now, industrial users can treat their water right where they use it, using prepackaged “point of use” water treatment systems that have an amazing life cycle of up to 100 years or more. Let's get things straight as Riggs Eckelberry doesn't look like a bomb-thrower. And yet, he's driving the disruption of a trillion-dollar industry that has fallen behind the times and is affecting the health of millions. That industry is Big Water. Simply, those billion-dollar centralized water systems aren't coping with demand, and water quality is getting worse. The answer? Instant InfrastructureTM. How The Dots Joined For Riggs Businesses are doing their own water treatment, using modular, prefabricated systems that are trucked right on site. They get better water quality, lower rates through recycling, and even improved environmental grades! Ten years after launching public company OriginClear, Riggs and his team are offering those truck-in-place modular systems in the USA, while licensees are building products internationally using OriginClear's low-energy, chemical-free innovation. Riggs Eckelberry is uniquely qualified to ride the huge wave of do-it-yourself water treatment that is transforming an industry, having learned management in the nonprofit space, captained oceangoing ships, and achieved several tech successes during the dot-com boom. So does he look back and think wow I have tackled something bigger than I could have possibly dreamt off? And would he recommend people following suit and start their own business? Well lets find out as we bring onto the show to start joining up dots with the one and only Riggs Eckelberry. Show Highlights During the show we discussed such weighty subjects with Riggs Eckelberry such as: How he has managed to overcome the impostor syndrome that so many people struggling with time and time again. Riggs shares his belief that one of his talents is seeing the obvious and looking for the simplest way through any problem. We discuss the series of things that need to occur to truly get momentum in a business and life. These things take to build, so let it happen without stress. And lastly....... Why it is so important to build a team that can make the difference to your business potential. You can't do it on your own.
