On Episode 86 of Outdoors with Lawrence Gunther, we speak with Ron Walsh, who is blind, about living the outdoor life. Ron offers up some tips on modifying a muzzleloader for sighted targeting assistance; Lawrence reflects on forest fires, smoke, and what it means for the iconic campfire; and in Lilly's “Did You Know” segment, she explores myths and facts surrounding the Northern Lights. Ron is the host of AMI-tv series Blind Adventures with Ron Walsh, where Ron and his friends explore Saskatchewan and the exciting locations the province has to offer.Stream both seasons now on AMI.ca or the free AMI-tv app.Ron Walsh BioRon Walsh realized he might have a vision problem while on a hunting trip in his twenties when he couldn't see a deer clearly visible to others. He was diagnosed with Retinitis Pigmentosa, a genetic degenerative disease that progressively impairs vision. Ron continued with an active life as his vision deteriorated and when forced to give up his driver's license, he embraced cycling, embarking on a two-week journey from Calgary to Victoria through the Rogers Pass. Eventually, Ron was forced to give up cycling, but he did not let his blindness become a barrier. Among his many exploits, he became one of the few blind people to traverse the Chilkoot Trail and completed a ten-day canoe trek across the Churchill River.Grateful for his many adventures and the help he received to achieve them, Ron created a foundation dedicated to removing barriers for members of the blind and partially sighted community so they can engage in the same exciting, engaging and fun activities. Ron can be found either planning or out on adventures that include hiking, canoeing, cross-country skiing, downhill skiing, golfing, bowling, dog-sledding, sailing, kayaking and many others, even some he hasn't thought of… yet.More on Outdoors with Lawrence GuntherListen live on Sundays at 3 p.m. Eastern over basic cable on AMI-audio, or stream episodes of Outdoors with Lawrence Gunther as a podcast. Send us your comments at Feedback@AMI.ca and please rate and review on Apple Podcasts.Lawrence Gunther BioHaving earned a Masters in Environmental Studies, Lawrence Gunther is North America's only blind conservationist, outdoor writer, podcaster, blogger, filmmaker and TV personality. A lifelong outdoor enthusiast, in 2007 Lawrence invented the world's first Blind Fishing Boat, was the first Canadian to win an international blind sailing regatta in 2010, and was certified in SCUBA in 2011. Lawrence is a regular contributor on AMI's NOW with Dave Brown and AMI This Week, and is an author for Outdoor Canada Magazine where you can find episodes of Lawrence's other podcast The Blue Fish Radio Show. Lawrence's award-winning documentary What Lies Below premiered at the Rogers Hot Docs Theatre in Toronto in 2016, and after featuring at film festivals throughout the world, went on to air on AMI-tv and CBC's Documentary Channel for the next three years. Registered blind at age eight, Lawrence acquired his first guide dog in 1986, and his most recent guide dog from the CNIB, a process that was documented through the video series Makings of a Guide Dog. In 2012, Lawrence founded Blue Fish Canada, a charity dedicated to water quality, fish health, and informing and inspiring the next generation of conservation-minded outdoor enthusiasts. Lawrence's outdoor accessibility accomplishments have been recognized with numerous awards including the Governor's General Meritorious Service Medal.

Psychometry, also known as psychoscopy or token-object reading, is a form of extrasensory perception where facts or impressions about a person or thing are received through contact with an object that retains an energetic impression. Psychic medium and author Heather Rease Mattison, an international psychic medium, psychometrician, and medical empath, joins A Psychic's Story to share her experiences with psychometry as well as her haunted home in Gasport, NY, an area in the U.S. with a robust history of psychic activity. In this fast-paced and wide-ranging discussion, Heather explains how she came from a family of psychics and how her intuitive abilities expanded after a Near Death Experience (NDE) in her 20s. She defines what psychometry is and how some people attach themselves to specific areas, objects, and houses long after they have passed. These spirits can interact with our present physical world, sometimes in benevolent ways. . . and sometimes not.Other topics Heather touches on are how an NDE changes a person's energy profile, what we look like to ghosts, and why animals do not need to reincarnate. Heather and her home are featured on Season 5, episode 10 of Kindred Spirits, titled “The Haunting of Graestone Manor.” She also appears as a guest co-star on episodes “What Lies Below,” “Disorderly Conduct,” “Beware the Occult” and more.Heather is the author of three books, The Haunting of Graestone Manor, Letters to Olivia- If You Could Hear What I Hear, and Letters To Olivia- Past, Present And Future Days.If you would like to connect with Heather or book a room at Graestone Manor, visit her website. Welcome to Episode 376. In this episode I’m joined by Dan West and Shy Aynetchi. Listen, we don’t review Marvel’s The Falcon and the Winter Soldier this week because I got the only 2 guys on the planet not watching the show. Next week I’ll talk about both episodes 4 and 5 of the series. In Good Pop Bad Pop this week for movies we talk about the South Korean film Night in Paradise now on Netflix. “Hiding out in Jeju Island following a brutal tragedy, a wronged mobster with a target on his back connects with a woman who has her own demons.” Also on Netflix, we talk about What Lies Below starring Mena Suvari. “A socially awkward 16-year-old meets her mother’s fiancé, a man whose charm, intelligence and beauty seems too perfect to be human.” We also talk about the short film on Netflix Two Distant Strangers. Brian talks about the new sci-fi movie out in theaters Voyagers starring Lily-Rose Depp, Colin Farrell and Tye Sheridan. We also talk about the new Melissa McCarthy and Octavia Spencer film Thunder Force now on Netflix. And yes, we talk about the comedy horror Slaxx that features a pair of murderous jeans. Yes, jeans that kill. In TV this week Brian and Dan talk a little about the latest episodes of The Walking Dead. We discuss the Netflix 4 part docu-series This is a Robbery: The World’s Biggest Art Heist. And Shy talks about Them on Amazon Prime. In News Phoebe Waller-Bridge has joined Indiana Jones 5. One of the creators of Mortal Kombat tells us they were tracking our player choices on early arcade cabinets. We go more details on that Knives Out Netflix deal. And we might be getting a Gladiator 2 with Chris Hemsworth. In Marvel News we talk about how Dan went 5 days without watching the new Loki trailer. And in DC News BvS and Justice League writer Chris Terrio speaks out for the first time and he doesn’t hold back. Sadly, he doesn’t speak on this show. But we read about it!

In this bumper episode Mike, Rich and Steve cover a whole half-dozen of new releases, starting with the Swedish thriller, RED DOT (available on Netflix) in which two campers are terrorised by someone with a sniper rifle. Then we take a look at GATECRASH, a film with few characters but loads of tension! We welcome back former Doctor Who, Silvester McCoy in THE OWNERS, in which Game of Thrones star Maisie Williams wishes she had better taste in boyfriends. BROIL gives us a vampire dynasty story much more successfully than Vampires of New Orleans did. WHAT LIES BELOW involves a teenage girl discovering her mother's new boyfriend might not be who he appears to be and ARCHENEMY touches on ideas from Will Smith's Hancock but with its own flourishes. Out Short Shot is SQUADRON, a Star Trek fan move from the Czech Republic - make sure you switch on the Closed Captions for the subs as the ones impriinted on the film are tiny! This is set in the midst of Deep Space 9's Dominion War and is well worth a look! I met Terry Bachmeier at a screening of What Lies Below along with his son and grandson. The next day I received an email from Terry, a man in his early 70's, telling me about growing up in Uranium City in northern Saskatchewan. I visited the community after it was abandoned, but Terry brings the town back to life as he relates his childhood experiences of helping to feed his 11 brothers and sisters through fishing and hunting, while gaining intimate knowledge of the surrounding wilderness and the dangers posed by the many uranium mines that blighted the landscape. It's a beautiful but tragic story peopleneed to hear this week on Blue fish Radio.
