In this experience we are happy to bring you a special interview with senior leadership advisor Marco Villa. Over three decades Marco has flown more than 2800 flights and 6125000 miles. Geoff and Marco flew together in 2022 on internal flights in Mozambique complete with a crazy trip to Nampula (listen to experience 64 for more details). We ask Marco about his alliances and statuses. With all of these flights, Marco has almost achieved lifetime gold status on British Airways. He holds status in three different alliances along with Emirates. It all started for Marco in the mid-1990s when flying staff standby tickets with Lufthansa, which sponsored AIESEC conferences that Marco (and Geoff and Vinod) attended.  We ask Marco about his business travel and his top “weird” destinations. Eritrea tops the list and Tajikistan being another exotic destination. We ask about Marco's pet peeves – he shares his thoughts about issues on the ground, in the air and at the hotel. He also shares an interesting “worst flight on the planet”. We ask about Marco's travel hacks and habits and learn what he never gets on a plane without. What airlines or hotels are at the top of Marco's list? Marco wishes that customer service comes back at the major airlines at some point in the future. We ask about what airlines he feels are at the bottom of the list. It is a really populated place for both major carriers and low-cost carriers. We ask what Marco would like to see in travel for innovation. Marco also shares his emotional attachment to his paper boarding passes. To celebrate this milestone episode 150, we're joined by Simon Holmes à Court in a very rare public interview appearance, and we believe his first about his own story!Simon has stood at the intersection of community, climate action and politics since May 2007 when he began chairing the community cooperative that set out to build Australia's first community-owned wind farm. Fifteen years later to the month, at the May 2022 national federal election, one of this former Silicon Valley dot com engineer's startups, Climate 200, harnessed community, climate awareness and politics to play a major role in shaking up Australia's tired old political order. He is an energy analyst, clean-tech investor, climate philanthropist, director of the Smart Energy Council, The Superpower Institute and more. ***Episode guiding points:This conversation is truly wide ranging and covers a lot of ground. We discuss his upbringing in Perth, Australia with 3 siblings and his parents being on the road a lot, and his father's South African heritage. Simon reflects on his boarding school experience in Geelong, near Melbourne and how that was physically and emotionally character building. Hear about his aspirations at age 18: set up a computer parts company with a friend to upgrade memory in people's computers, Studying law but then loved the student organisation AIESEC and going down a different path. Our host, Vidit also was involved with AIESEC during my university studies and couldn't speak more highly of the training it gave me. Particular aspects of this conversation that stood out to us include:Simon and his wife left the US on sept 10th 2001 with their first child and moving back to Australia, and living in Melbourne (cautious after his boarding school scars)Simon's discovery of renewable energy during his 14 years scaling a company called Observant: Building remote monitoring technical solutions, and precision water management for farmers and their family cattle stations in the Northern Territory How leadership of the Hepburn Community Farm Project gave Simon exposure to everything from The capital raising, the media, the politics, the engineering side, the commercials of building environmental, on ground engagementThe fascinating story of The kids off naru project, the Sydney opera house and a horse race and Simon learning the power of Twitter through thisLearning clarity of communication and present information in a way that makes people engaged and willing to listen and not switch off?Two concepts that we haven't stopped thinking about since this conversation is one: First The trim Tab from Buckminster Fuller (listen in to hear this context, small things like a trim tab can drive large scale changes), and second the Henry David Thoreau quote “There are a thousand hacking at the branches of evil to one who is striking at the root.”  So be a trim tab and a root striker. Thank you for your support of the 150 episodes to date, this has been the most impactful and enjoyable work our host Vidit Agarwal has done in his life, and is excited for what's ahead. Kenny is an innovation consultant originally from Nigeria and living in Uganda. During episode 40 of the Are we home yet podcast listen to my interview with Kenny, an expat from Nigeria, who talks about his time in Uganda. Kenny also speaks about the best decision he ever made, which was joining the AIESEC network. “I've met so many friends outside of work through AIESEC,” Kenny says. Listen to the interview now!Kenny has gotten to know so many people from joining the AIESEC network and can't stress enough how important it is to network and of course spend time with friends, and get to know one another. The importance of social networking offline Social networking offline is extremely important. In the physical world, face-to-face interactions are the norm, and the benefits of social networking are evident. For example, research has shown that people who have strong social ties are more likely to live longer and be happier than those who don't. In addition, face-to-face interactions allow for the exchange of nonverbal cues that can help build trust and rapport. However, in the online world, social networking often takes the form of text-based interactions. While this can be helpful in some ways, it also has its limitations. For instance, it's difficult to build trust with someone you've never met in person. In addition, the lack of nonverbal cues can make it easy to misread someone's tone or intentions. As a result, social networking offline is still the best way to build strong relationships. During his time in Uganda, Kenny, has made good friends with his local coworkers and it's made all the difference in finding joy in his new home of Uganda. The time in Uganda Time in Uganda is a bit different than time in most other places. For one thing, the sun rises and sets much earlier here. As a result, people tend to wake up early and go to bed early. This can be a bit of an adjustment for visitors from more temperate climates. In addition, Uganda is located on the equator, so there is very little variation in the length of days throughout the year. The country does experiences two wet seasons, which can impact travel plans. Overall, Uganda is a great place to visit, and its unique time zone is just one of the many things that make it special. The local time in Uganda is GMT+3. Uganda is located in the Eastern Africa Time Zone. Eastern Africa Time (EAT) is 3 hours ahead of Coordinated Universal Time (UTC). Uganda spans two time zones, but the country currently only observes one time zone (EAT) due to its proximity to the equator. The westernmost part of Uganda near the border with the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC) observes Central Africa Time (CAT), which is 2 hours behind EAT. However, this part of Uganda does not currently observe daylight saving time. For most of Uganda, the current time in Uganda is EAT (GMT+3). Despite its relatively small size, Uganda offers a wide range of experiences for visitors. From wildlife-watching safaris to trekking through stunning mountains and forests, there is something for everyone to enjoy in this beautiful country. Beautiful Uganda Beautiful Uganda is a country located in East Africa. It is bordered by Kenya to the east, Sudan to the north, the Democratic Republic of the Congo to the west, and Rwanda and Tanzania to the south. The country is beautiful, with lush green mountains, sweeping plains, and rivers flowing through its valleys. The climate in Uganda is very pleasant. Uganda is a relatively small country, but there is a significant amount of variation in climate across different regions. In general, the north and east of the country tend to be hotter and more humid than the south and west. The capital city of Kampala has a tropical savanna climate, with average temperatures ranging from 21 to 28 degrees Celsius. The highest temperatures are typically seen during February and March. And we thought resterà visitabile nelle fasce orarie 11/13 e 16/21 nelle giornate di sabato 18 e domenica 19, giornata finale di Cantieri.

Hello and welcome to the Migration & Diaspora Podcast, with me your host, Loksan Harley from Homelands Advisory. Today, I'm joined by my friend Asier Ansorena, Senior Change Leader at Ashoka, to talk about diaspora networks and social entrepreneurship. About Asier Originally from Spain, Asier completed his studies in Economics and Political Science at the University of Michigan. He then worked at AIESEC on youth empowerment and entrepreneurship projects in Jordan and several Latin American countries. In 2009, he moved to Brazil to lead the microcredit team of Instituto Banco Palmas, the first community bank in Brazil. A few years later in 2013, he began to shift his focus to developing Palmaslab, a lab of research and innovation from the urban periphery that empowers communities through the development of youth-produced software and research, which gained recognition from the Inter-American Development Bank as one of the "Three Most Innovative Solutions in Latin America and the Caribbean" in its Social Innovation challenge, amongst other accolades - including from the Ashoka Foundation, the organisation he now represents. What we talk about In this interview, Asier tells us all about his work with Ashoka to build diaspora networks. We talk about why Ashoka, an organisation that supports social entrepreneurs, is building diaspora networks, how it's building them, and what Asier himself has learned in the process. In this segment, Julien LeFort breaks down the 4 dimensions of resilience and how it pairs with diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging to truly create balance. 1. Composure 2. Self-Assurance 3. Tenacity 4. Challenge See video here - https://youtu.be/DrQmhKs8stQ WHO IS JULIEN? For the last 15 years, Julien has worked with both non-profit (AIESEC, Chance UK, Coaching for Everyone) and private sector (Société Générale, Adecco, Thomsons Online Benefits - Mercer group). Originally, he worked in a corporate environment managing Learning and Development globally. His job was supporting people in their development as leaders and as individuals, creating programs that would make them shine as employees and make them grow and develop. After being forced to stay at work for a meeting, resulting in Julien missing an important event in his daughter's life, and a feeling of being stuck in his work, Julien decided to make the shift to entrepreneurship. Now he is a Success Coach, a Trainer and Mentor of coaches and works with a range of truly amazing individuals from coaches to creative entrepreneurs. Most recently he has been diving into the correlation between Resilience (specifically in his work as a coach) and Diversity & Inclusion. “Every act of eating involves some element of choice.” Every day people around the world go to the store to purchase food and then sit down to a meal with their families. The meal may include bread made with wheat from Peru, salad with lettuce from California, and beef from Australia. All of these products end up on our plates through a vast interconnected global supply chain. While the supply chain creates a large number of food choices in wealthier countries, it does not always produce more nutritious food or get food to those in dire need. In Episode 6 of Better Food. Better World., Elizabeth Nyamayaro is joined by WFP Director of Supply Chain Operations Division, Alex Marinelli, food journalist Mark Bittman, Purnima Menon of IFPRI-New Delhi, and Yemeni Food Science & Nutrition Advocate, Esra Shaiban. They explore the supply chain's connection to our food systems, look at who is affected by poor nutrition, and share what we can do to improve the quality of the food we consume. Elizabeth and her guests understand the heavy burden our world is facing and believe that we can choose to do food better. Key Moments: 1:25 - In the introduction, Elizabeth asks everyday people from privileged parts of the world about their relationship to food. 2:27 - Alex Marinelli explains how the supply chain links to our food systems. 8:00 - Elizabeth continues to talk with people on the street about what food is for. 8:32 - Mark Bittman discusses how despite appearing broken, our food systems benefit corporate interests.  12:14 - Elizabeth shares more from her interviews with people on the street reminiscing about food during their childhood. 13:34 - Purnima Menon centers food systems on people, especially the people most affected by poor diets — women and children. 22:25 - More voices from the street describing how they decide to eat. 23:20 - Esra Shaiban shares how we can improve the quality of food and add nutrition. 29:37 - Esra Shaiban, Alex Marinelli, and Elizabeth share their wishes for a world with better food. Briefly, at The Australian National University, I was a member of AIESEC, an international group of economics students. There were good moments, but I eventually had the realisation that these weren't really my people; they just didn't have a similar lens on the world, to me. So, I assumed that all economists were the same, until a few years ago when I read a wonderful book called Obliquity. It was wise, grounded, human, provocative, and had, at its heart, the insight that we rarely figure out - the hard, complex things - and it was written by an economist.  After some time in academia, John Kay realised that he possessed a unique skill, one that was uncommon in the typical economist. John has already appeared on this podcast, featured as an author in someone else's read. He's a British economist, and truthfully, a philosopher. He is what a real influencer looks and sounds like. Get‌ ‌book‌ ‌links‌ ‌and‌ ‌resources‌ ‌at‌ https://www.mbs.works/2-pages-podcast/  John reads two pages from ‘The Secret of Our Success' by Joseph Henrich. [reading begins at 11:15]  Hear us discuss:  The significance of social learning in the world: “You'll never see two chimpanzees carrying a log together.” [16:52] | The process of shifting foundational beliefs: “It's not that they're worse people, it's that the environment in which they operate has been a different one.” [18:12] | Finding inspiration and hope. [22:47] | Reducing polarisation. [24:39]

This is Episode 13. Welcome to Entrepreneur Mindset-Reset. Hi everyone! Thanks for tuning-in today for a new episode of Entrepreneur Mindset-Reset, THE podcast where entrepreneurs just like you and me share how they master their mindset to overcome obstacles to their success. In today's episode, I'm speaking with the brilliant and insightful Julien Lefort of Creative Minds Unleashed. Julien shares his journey from France to the UK to Romania, and how he decided to become a coach. He talks a lot about how taking a step, no matter how seemingly small, can make all the difference in the world, and how at the end of the day, you've got to figure out what energizes you so you can tap-into that energy to support you in doing what doesn't come naturally for you. You won't want to miss when he tells the story about how he tackles the “have-to” tasks with creativity, and how that builds his energy up rather than depleting it. He shares how to create a counter-balance in order to get stuff done so he can spend more time doing what he loves.  Julien has a knack for seeing gaps and filling them from the perspective of what has worked for him, adjusted and fine-tuned with feedback from his clients. This is something every entrepreneur needs to hear, so you can go forward and create momentum.  So, grab a beverage or a snack and settle-in to listen to Julien Lefort and his amazing journey.
