Burnout among healthcare professionals isn't just a buzzword. In this episode of Straight Out of Health IT, Dr. Maiysha Clairborne, a physician and transformational coach, shares her personal experience with burnout early in her career, which led her to shift from clinical medicine to helping healthcare professionals prevent and recover from burnout. She highlights burnout's key characteristics: physical, mental, and emotional exhaustion, depersonalization, and a sense of futility, where clinicians feel their efforts are never enough. Dr. Maiysha also stresses the role of psychological safety in addressing burnout, as a lack of safety creates stress and erodes trust. The conversation explores the root causes of burnout, including overwhelming workloads, excessive charting without support, inequities in workplace culture, and the increasing demands of technology. While AI-powered scribes and telemedicine provide flexibility and innovation, they can also contribute to clinician stress when poorly implemented or unsupported. Dr. Maiysha notes that systemic issues, such as toxic workplace environments and organizational inequities, often leave clinicians feeling isolated, underappreciated, and unable to advocate for necessary changes. Dr. Maiysha emphasizes the need for individual and organizational solutions to address burnout. On a personal level, clinicians must recognize burnout symptoms, identify primary stressors, and advocate for support and resources. From an organizational standpoint, leadership must prioritize psychological safety, listen to frontline workers, and take actionable steps to rebuild trust and support clinicians. Organizations can improve clinician well-being, reduce turnover, and ultimately enhance patient care by creating healthier environments and systems. Tune in to learn about the root causes of clinician burnout, the role of psychological safety, and solutions to help healthcare professionals reclaim balance and purpose!  --- Support this podcast: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/christopher-kunney/support

My guest today is someone I can almost 100% guarantee you will fall in love with, if you don't already know Dr Maiysha Clairborne then it is my absolute pleasure to introduce you this extraordinary woman! She is an Integrative Physician, Visionary, Thought Leader, Consultant, and Trainer of Neurolinguistic Programming… you know what I'm about to say - this is going to be juicy! We talk about the subconscious mind and what it is that is required from you when you are looking to really build your confidence, especially when you're looking to create business success. We look at what are the things that hold you back and how you get to the root of the problem or the root of the lie, so that you can create new installations, programmable installations, that are going to serve you rather than hold you back. So without any further ado, let's get on. Quotes "You have to balance out what you think of yourself with what other people are saying about you.""It's important for people to get connected with what's happening in their body.""We create similar patterns that give us the familiarity of chaos" "Being inside your own mind is the most dangerous place to because it confines you""The truth is, we make it all up anyway, so you better make up something good"Highlights 10:48 By avoiding my past, by avoiding looking at the things that had happened, by not addressing them, I was essentially continuing to stuff trash into a trash can without emptying it. I was hurting myself8:45 Here's the interesting thing, though. On the outside, I looked good to people. I say that because people would think I had it all together. That's what they would tell me. Click here for more from Jeanne-Marie, your parenting mentor. Becoming a parent often reveals unhealed trauma, and our children will activate emotions we did not even know existed, which is why it is so important to do our healing work as we parent. What We Talked About: What is Neuro-Linguistic Programming (NLP) How can we be self-aware as parents What might be the blind spots we have when parenting Trauma Responsive Communication How can we help our children navigate trauma Things to Remember  “Flexibility comes with creatively listening to the deeper context of what our children are communicating.” “When we start to see the behavior as the communication, then we can begin to ask the right questions.” ”Communication is more than just words. Only 7% of communication are words, 93% is everything else.”  “The meaning of your communication is the response you get.” “Trauma has an impact on our thinking, behavior, and communication.” “Going through the healing process helps to stop the behaviors, communication, and thoughts that inflict trauma on the younger generation.” “We have to practice self-compassion and self-love throughout our parenting journey. Or else we will continue to traumatize and re-traumatize ourselves and that's no good for our children.” - Dr. Maiysha Clairborne   Click here for more from Jeanne-Marie, your parenting mentor.

Welcome Back No-Problem Parents!   Trauma-informed parenting (instead of parenting from trauma, parenting from a healed Self)   Did you know words are only 7% of our communication? The rest is our body language, voice, facial expressions, and other non-verbal means. NLP or Neuro Linguistic Programming Training will not only help you understand language, but it will give you mastery so that you can manage any conversation and conflict with ease and grace. It's not called the language of influence for nothing.   Meet Dr. Maiysha Clairborne, an Integrative Physician, Master Coach and trainer of Neurolinguistic Programming (NLP), Hypnosis & Time Line Therapy®, & founder of the Mind Re-Mapping Co. Her training combines the mastery of emotional and communication intelligence, teaching leaders that by mastering their language (both internal and external) they can not only be conscious but also responsible for the impact of their words, actions, and behaviors. This ultimately helps them to communicate in a way that builds bridges, creating new connections and outcomes that positively impact the people, community & organizations they serve.   Dr. Maiysha enjoys working in Corporations, Medical Systems, and educational Institutions, bringing conversations and skills of trauma responsiveness, emotional intelligence, and a growth mindset culture to these spaces. “I think I have always been a healer first. It feels like my life's assignment… my purpose. Each day, I endeavor to bring healing to everyone with whom I come in contact. I believe everyone has this capacity to bring healing for themselves and others. I'm here to wake them up to that capacity.” ~Dr. Maiysha   Watch this interview on YouTube here https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aMv2HK7sxos        From Dr. Maiysha Clairborne's TEDX.[i] On this episode #289 we will cover: ✔  How hypnosis and timeline therapy can help us to eliminate blocks in our subconscious mind. ✔ What's a more effective way for changing our beliefs than repeating an affirmation. ✔ A simple and easy to use strategy to resolve conflict in the workplace. ✔ The three views of "perception" for improving relationships (home and workplace). ✔ How to uncover the root of our doubts and fears to blast through to new heights in our personal and professional lives. ✔ Why challenges our beliefs is important for growth. ✔ What to think about when "resistance" comes up in our life. ✔ The importance of celebrating our wins, but keeping our eye on our end-goal.   I want to welcome you back to Season 9 of The Neuroscience Meets Social and Emotional Learning Podcast, where we cover the science-based evidence behind social and emotional learning (for schools) and emotional intelligence training (in the workplace) with tools, ideas and strategies that we can all use for immediate results, with our brain in mind.  I'm Andrea Samadi, an author, and an educator with a passion for learning and launched this podcast to share how the understanding of our complex brain transfers into our everyday life and results. Each concept we cover here I'm hoping will help you, wherever you might be listening to this podcast in the world, just as much as these ideas are helping me personally and professionally. For today's episode #289, we are meeting with Dr. Maiysha Clairborne, an author, TEDx Speaker, Podcast Host of the Black Mind Garden Podcast, a Master Practitioner of NLP and Hypnosis and Time Line Therapy. I don't think I need to explain why I wanted to speak with Dr. Clairborne when you click to the first page of her website, and she has the words EDUCATE, EMPOWER, ENRICH and ELEVATE in bold letters on the first page. She lives what she teaches, as these words come to my mind when I looked at her picture on the front of her press kit as I wondered where I would even begin with the questions I want to ask her. It was funny because she had some suggested topics included and I read through them, and thought “I want to know ALL of these topics!” So that's where we will begin. Let's welcome Dr. Maiysha Clairborne, and see what we will learn together to elevate and empower us to new heights and leadership. INTRO Q: Welcome Dr. Maiysha Clairborne! Thank you for making my life so much easier as a podcast host. Preparing for this interview was easy with all of the information you've got out in the world. I wasn't kidding when I said in the backstory that I want to know EVERYTHING you've suggested as questions for me. Welcome! Can you give us a bit of your background that takes us to where you are today? What inspired you to want to educate, empower, enrich and elevate others? This says a lot about who you are. What about hypnosis and timeline therapy? I'm a full believer in hypnosis, but what is timeline therapy? Q1: It's been a few years since I've used them, but I did use an affirmation in my early 20s to help me to change my identity as a young woman, in business. Is there a better way? Tell me there is, because I didn't like saying the same thing over and over again in front of the mirror until I finally believed it. Q2: I love that you have some tips for improving our relationships in the workplace. What would you say would be some common workplace problems that you typically see, and how would you suggest solving them? Q3: Can you explain your perception activity that you explain in your TEDx? I've always thought it to be important to use this faculty of mind, to see beyond what our 5 senses can see, and look at a situation you might be struggling with from someone else's point of but you took this exercise to another level than I've ever seen before. When I'm in conflict with someone, I've always tried to step into their shoes, and see what they see, feel what they feel, but what are we missing if we only step into their shoes seeing their perspective and mine? Q4: For those of us who just want to improve and be better versions of ourselves, what would you say about some of the doubts and fears that we might have that we might not even be aware of? How do we uncover the ROOT of our doubts and fears and discover what they are so we can move beyond them? Q5: Belief change. This is a huge topic for me on this podcast. I talk about shifting our paradigms all the time, and I can tell you a few areas that I'm shocked where my beliefs have changed over the years, (specifically around diet and exercise). What do you think we should know about our beliefs? Q5B: So when I'm resisting with something or someone says “try it this way” and I want to try something new, but their way is too far off from how I would be doing what I'm doing. How can we better navigate resistance so we can grow with new ideas? Q6: Why do you think the goal-setting system is broken, (what part specifically) and what are better ways to set our goals? Q7: Another incredible topic. How do you suggest creating the balance between celebrating your wins and staying focused? I know both are important. Q8: What programs and services do you offer to help others? Q9: Is there anything important that I've missed? Dr. Clairborne, I want to thank you for taking the time to come on the podcast today, and sharing the years of knowledge, and tools to help empower us to improve ourselves at home and in our workplace. Beginning in 1805, the book traces Laffite through his rise to power as a privateer and smuggler in the Gulf, his involvement in the Battle of New Orleans, his flight to Texas, and his eventual disappearance in the waters of the Caribbean. SHOW NOTES: This week, Dr. Ijeoma Opara and I took the conversation to another level as we talk about code fluidity. Let's have a meaningful conversation on how people of African descent have developed and retain the ability to be flexible in our behavior and how we can use that to empower our full expression. Highlights from the conversation: [00:40] Dr. Ijeoma Opara · Internal Medicine-Pediatrics Physician and Associate Program Director at Wayne State University School of Medicine · Systems transformation for anti-racism, justice, equity and decolonization activist and advocate · Helps embody joy, abundance and freedom and fight for justice so the black community can live and thrive freely and prosper. [01:30] The Code Fluidity Code fluidity created by Drs. Opara and Clairborne is created to adapt the term “code switching”. Code switching is being one part of yourself in one circumstance and then switching and being another part of yourself in another. There is a sense of being locked-in toward being fluid and being able to be oneself all the time. We use code switching as a tool of survival – an outcome of having living in an oppressive system or violent society. To some, code switching is also a trauma response. [04:43] The True Liberation We are constantly shifting in identities which was driven by our will to survive. But what does joy and abundance actually look like? It is being able to show up in our full selves in whatever space we are without fear of harm or retaliation in some way, form or fashion. This is what true liberation means. If one looks at it in a spectrum like that, then it is almost like code fluidity is the next step from code switching which is like us choosing what we should show in the “facade” and what should be in the “background”. [09:39] Beginning the Journey How do we begin the journey for ourselves inside of a system that is not quite there yet? Getting to know who we truly are is definitely a good starting point for us! Getting to know ourselves, being comfortable of our own skin and beginning to explore all of our belief patterns, our traumas and where they come from. It needs to start from rejecting the myth of imposter syndrome as opposed to what the system is telling us that we do not belong. Conclusion: Overall, it is important for us to understand that people sometimes use code switching to keep themselves protected from an oppressive, violent system or a result of a traumatic experience they have in the past. One thing worth noting here is that there is hope – there is hope for true liberation, joy, and abundance. And it may not be easy at first but accepting who we truly are is a great first step to the process. Catch up with Dr. Ijeoma Opara by contacting her at ijeomannodimopara@gmail.com. 445. Part 1 of our conversation with Stephen Winick, of the Library of Contress. In 1902, on a prairie in southwest Louisiana, six members of a farming family are found murdered. Albert Edwin Batson, a white, itinerant farm worker, rapidly descends from likely suspect to likely lynching victim as people in the surrounding countryside lusted for vengeance. In a territory where the locals were coping with the opening of the prairies by the railroad and the disorienting, disruptive advances of the rice and oil industries into what was predominantly cattle country, Batson, an outsider, made an ideal scapegoat. Scott has studied the events of the time, and the ballads that were written about the death of Batson. This week in Louisiana history. November 27, 1813. Most physicians tend to focus more on professional development and put personal growth to the side.  Shame, guilt, and fear are some of the factors that impede them from realizing their true potential and transitioning into their career.   In this episode, Dr. Maiysha Clairborne discusses topics as diverse as her expertise. She is an Integrative Family Physician, Master Hypnotherapist, NLP Executive Coach, NLP & Hypnosis Trainer, entrepreneur, speaker, author, podcaster, and a loving mom.     As a Mind ReMapping & Behavior Transformation Specialist, Dr. Maiysha shares with us how the NLP tools help her clients overcome barriers to success. She emphasizes the importance of focusing on the deep self and controlling the unconscious thoughts and behaviors so that they can have complete control over their lives.   “When we begin to focus on our personal development, not just our professional development which is important, we begin to focus more on that then we begin to clear out some of the noise and begin to hear our true selves then from that point you can start to look and expand the tunnel of possibilities.” - Maiysha Clairborne MD   Highlights: (01:54) Subconscious conditioning to becoming a doctor (06:31) Failing is not an option (10:15) The power of language (15:42) Remapping the mind:  Focus on personal development (18:35) Inappropriate guilt and awareness triggers (29:24) Big steps or small steps (37:37) Create an internal balance with hobbies   Resources: Transitions: Making Sense of Life's Changes https://www.amazon.com/Transitions-Making-Sense-Lifes-Changes/dp/0738285404 Physicians on Purpose Podcast Ep20:  Maiysha Claiborne MD - Follow Your Calling Wherever It Leads You https://physiciansonpurpose.libsyn.com/20-maiysha-claiborne-md-follow-your-calling-wherever-it-leads-you   Connect with Maiysha Clairborne MD: Website: https://drmaiysha.com/ LinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/in/drmaiysha/ Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/DrMaiysha/ Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/MaiyshaClairborneMD Twitter: https://twitter.com/DrMaiysha   Watch on Youtube: https://youtu.be/vwictzA4y3E   Learn more about Dr. Dike and The Happy MD: https://linktr.ee/dikedrummond We would love to hear your feedback.  Send us your review on Apple Podcasts/Itunes, or in other directories through this link: https://www.podchaser.com/podcasts/physicians-on-purpose-1546320

Tapping gives a regimented way to process negative emotions. And then you feel amazing afterwards.  –Jill Wener On this episode of the PlanSimple Podcast, I'm really excited to talk with Jill Wener, the meditating doctor. Facing stress and burnout herself, Jill found mediation. She overcame her initial skepticism and learned the science behind Conscious Health Mediation. In 2017, she learned another technique—Emotional Freedom Technique, also known as EFT or tapping—that helped her overcome limiting beliefs. We talk about really feeling your emotions and giving ourselves permission to have more positive feelings. Along with this Jill talks about reframing thoughts, so that we are focusing on what we want to grow. Tapping becomes a modality for processing your emotions.  Jill briefly explains how tapping works: You say things out loud as you tap on different points on your face and chest. And then you can embody that feeling and sit in it and allow it and embrace it. Then you allow it to pass and to integrate and shift. Then there is a cognitive shift. And you feel amazing after.  We talk about:  How flexible and adaptive tapping is — and how easy it is to start Learning tools that you can use on your own (they may take time and practice, but you can get ongoing benefits on your own) Meditation and how it perks you up better than Starbucks Mediation being more preventative, while tapping is more like a spot cleaner Seeing negative emotions as a gift Tapping with your kids Tapping is one of those tools that can bend time, but making you feel amazing in a short time and helping you release negative thoughts and emotions getting in your way. Jill will walk us through tapping during CAMP!  Are you signed up yet? Do that now so you have time to plan your amazing week. https://plansimple.com/camp BIO After 10+ years practicing Internal Medicine in a busy urban hospital, Jill knows firsthand what severe stress and burnout feel like. In the midst of her own emotional turmoil, she was introduced to Conscious Health Meditation, and it had a profound effect on her well-being. Due to her medical background, Jill was initially skeptical of spiritual practices. However, as she learned the science behind Conscious Health Meditation, she embraced the training and marveled at the results of her efforts. The only Conscious Health (also known as Vedic) Meditation instructor in Georgia, Jill completed her training in Rishikesh, India in April, 2016.  Jill strongly believes that there is no 'quick fix'; no singular technique can address all of the physical and emotional challenges of today's society. When she discovered the evidence-based technique of tapping (also called the Emotional Freedom Technique or EFT) at a conference for women physicians in 2017 and began using it herself, she was amazed at how well it complemented her meditation practice and helped her to let go of long-held limiting beliefs. She became a tapping practitioner in 2019, and finds tremendous joy facilitating incredible growth and benefits with her tapping clients.  A nationally-renowned expert in physician wellness, Jill has published several articles on KevinMD, led physician wellness programs around the country, and lectured at the national level on stress and the benefits of meditation and tapping. She has been interviewed on multiple TV and radio shows as well as podcasts (in the medical community and beyond). In addition to her online and in-person meditation and tapping programs, Jill leads meditation retreats all over the world and is the co-founder and Chief Wellness Officer of the TransforMD Mastery Retreat for Women Physicians. An (always aspiring) anti-racist, Jill is the creator of the Conscious Anti-Racism curriculum, in which she (along with her business partner Dr. Maiysha Clairborne) combines her insights as a white woman on her own anti-racism journey with her mind-body expertise and her 10 years of experience practicing medicine. Jill is also the host of the Conscious Anti-Racism podcast, and she is also the author of the Conscious Anti-Racism book with Dr. Clairborne.  LINKS www.jillwener.com https://www.instagram.com/jillwenermd/ Doable Changes from this episode: NOTICE NEGATIVE EMOTIONS. Most of us were taught that emotions like anger and sadness were bad, but learning to feel and process all emotions is important. Start by simply noticing your emotions without judgement. Name how you are feeling. TRY MEDITATION. Jill notes that meditation is preventative. It's a practice that over time makes a difference—just like all of our doable changes. Start by doing a very short meditation. If you think mediation isn't for you, try Conscious Health Mediation, a specific modality that Jill teaches. EXPLORE TAPPING. Learn more about Tapping on Jill's site—or come to CAMP—to learn tapping from Jill! This technique is simple to learn, and you can get something out of it whenever you do it, even if you don't practice regularly.

How can both Black people and white people get through the discomfort around racism? What are some strategies to see through the immediate struggle to find inspiration and motivation? What will it take for our country's values to shift enough to allow for real change? In this series on healthcare and social disparities, Dr. Jill Wener, a board-certified Internal Medicine specialist, meditation expert, author, and tapping practitioner, interviews experts in multiple fields relating to social justice and anti-racism. In this video, Jill interviews Dr. Maiysha Clairborne, a family practitioner, Integrative Medicine specialist, hypnotherapist, NLP expert, physician coach and the co-creator and Chief Operating Officer of Jill's Conscious Anti-Racism movement. Dr. Maiysha shares her own personal struggles with burnout early in her medical career and how she learned early on that her path was going to be different. She tells the 'behind the scenes' story of how she connected with Jill and joined the Conscious Anti-Racism movement, even though she never saw herself as an activist. Dr. Maiysha's explains how she copes with the daily stresses and discomforts of systemic racism and what motivates her beyond the fear. As a female physician, Maiysha had spent most of her career putting work first. However, when she became pregnant with her son, one of the first things to come to mind “how will I balance my profession as a physician with my commitment as a mother?” That question informed the way she next moved in her career. She designed her second career specifically so that she could be available for her son. With that in mind she started Stress free Mom MD in 2016, coaching physician moms to create balanced lives that they design. Not long after that she began helping burned out Dr. Mommies transition into better jobs and career paths giving them more time and freedom to be with their families. It wasn't long before she became known for what she does, and for having made a successful transition from clinical medicine and was asked to coach in the area of entrepreneurship. That is when she decided to create the Next Level Physician Entrepreneurs Institute. She wanted to show doctors that it was possible to leverage what they already know and create a profitable business that more than paid the bills while having freedom, fulfillment and a life they truly loved by their design. Clairborne & Saint-Victor about how their unique backgrounds in medicine have led them to create this transformational retreat. Dr. Clairborne relates how her early career experiences led her to burnout and to almost take her own life before discovering her own path. Dr. Saint-Victor talks about how immigrant parental pressure guided his early career in medicine and caused his own internal struggles around identity, and cultural, and familial expectations. Dr. Clairborne practices integrative medicine and has training in acupuncture, coaching, neurolinguistic programming, hypnotherapy and focuses primarily on getting to the root of people's problems and not just focusing on clinical symptoms. Through this process she helps people change their behavior to be able to change their lives and outcomes. Dr. Saint-Victor has a background in psychiatry and computer programming and has a long-standing fascination with the way a computer works, juxtaposed with how the human brain works. With this background he helps physicians use mental models to create an identity that is not just wrapped up in being a physician. The Mind Re-Mapping and Manifestation Retreat – Change cannot occur until your thought process changes. Removing self doubt, imposter syndrome, the same obstacles reappearing over and over again in your life, defining and reaching fulfillment in your life, and how to remove the blind spots that may be holding you back are all areas that will be tackled during this retreat. How does the pattern of being a physician affect how we view the world and interact with others? And does that in some ways limit us? During this retreat you will - 1)     Reconnect with yourself 2)     Get clarity on what you want out of life 3)     Act towards your goals and eliminate your fears 4)     Reconnect and discover your deepest values 5)     Remove the negative thoughts and negative self-talk 6)     Increase your performance in your given arena 7)     Decrease your incidence of self-sabotage 8)     Begin to operate within your purpose 9)     Take away the tools to maintain the transformation you've just undergone Come and enjoy a beautiful resort as well Books mentioned in this episode – https://thephysiciansroad.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/12/Screenshot-77.png () https://amzn.to/37hsufJ (Psycho-Cybernetics)https://amzn.to/37hsufJ (https://amzn.to/37hsufJ)  The Mind Re-Mapping & Manifestation Retreat Chateau ElanFebruary 1st. 2020https://gegkoacw.pages.infusionsoft.net/ (Register here:)https://gegkoacw.pages.infusionsoft.net/ (https://gegkoacw.pages.infusionsoft.net)  The Physicians Road where you create your life in Medicine On your Own Terms   Join Our Facebook Grouphttps://www.facebook.com/groups/thephysiciansroad/ (www.facebook.com/groups/thephysiciansroad/)
