In this episode, Will speaks to Dr. Mattias Bosch, who has a rich, academic background.  He studied Aeronautical and Mechanical Engineering at TUM and a PhD in Law at LMU, both Munich based universities, and during his German law studies he was a scholar at the University of Washington in Seattle.      Bosch has worked in the intellectual property field since 1993, having begun his doctoral thesis comparing US, European and German patent law related to medical process patents. He was a founding partner of the intellectual property law firm Bosch Jehle in Munich and his practice expanded to focus upon complex patent litigation in the tech industry.      Bosch retired from his law practice in 2020, but his story does not end there.   Realising his career had provided the opportunity to travel the world, he had come to believe that the route to a stronger and more stable society was to encourage the worldwide teaching of dignity.  He enrolled in the Harvard Kennedy School for an Executive Education Certificate in Non-Profit Organisations, and has served as the Executive Coordinator for the charity Global Dignity, since 2021.    Today I find my guest as a fellow of Harvard University's  Advanced Leadership Initiative Cohort of 2023, whose vision is to ‘unleash the potential of experienced leaders to help solve society's most pressing challenges'.  Listen to this episode to learn more about Dr Bosch's route to success. We discuss the African debt crisis , and where it came from, and what are the solutions. How it results from scavenger capitalism, how western countries and their financial institutions such as the IMF, and banks, have imposed austerity, and forced African countries into poverty and essentially destroying them to get them to pay pack their debt, while multinationals make massive profits while paying very little tax to African countries, and how the west extracts huge natural resources. The solution is action through the UN - to get a coordinated international response, based on solidarity, and Ireland has a key role. Africa now has a large number of evangelical Christians, and this is the time for Africa to take up the baton to mobilise workers into the field. Nosa shares of many heart-moving testimonies on committed believers who had not wavered in the face of persecutions. Our African brothers and sisters encounter various challenges when professing their faith, priming them into a nation of resilience compared with their Western counterparts. These stories of immense bravery speak of something important – that in every circumstances, God's grace is sufficient for us. Nosa encourages the church to walk together despite our differences in age, gender, tongue and colour, recognising that each member adds a special value to the table. About the special guest Nosa Edokpolo Tukura is the Deputy International Director, Resource Development, at Missions Supporters League (MSL) based in Abuja, Nigeria. MOBILIZING WOMEN FOR MISSIONS (Nosa Tukura) https://www.academia.edu/33577397/MOB... We live in a kairos moment, a time where we have more educated, entrepreneurial and professional women than ever before. We have several young women studying in our institutions of higher learning in various fields including the hitherto designated 'male dominated fields'. Many women have proved their mettle in academia, science, medicine, engineering, arts, etc. Many have broken the proverbial 'glass ceiling' by becoming heads of institutions previously headed only by men. AfirGo Magazine https://afrigo.org/ AfriGO was launched in 2016. This quarterly magazine celebrates this history while encouraging the church's increasing participation in God's global mission. In Episode 5 of the Trade for Peace podcast, our host, Mr. Axel M. Addy, former Minister of Commerce and Industry and Chief Negotiator for WTO accession of Liberia, sat down with two renowned academics: Dr. Patrick Low, Fellow of the Asia Global Institute and former Chief Economist of the WTO and Dr. Achim Wennmann, Advisor to the Director of Strategic Development and Partnerships at the Graduate Institute and former Executive Coordinator of the Geneva Peacebuilding Platform.   Patrick and Achim argue that although there is a discernible relationship between trade and peace, determining the causal directions can be challenging. On the one hand, it can be argued that new markets and economic opportunities arising from reforms could be realised by the cessation of conflict and thus trade could contribute to the maintenance of the newfound peace. On the other hand, while the revenues generated from trade could make people and societies better-off, they could also be used to finance conflict, if placed in the wrong hands.   To make trade work for peace, our guests suggest a range of accompanying infrastructures aimed at reducing inequality, improving predictability, transparency, and security in the trade and business environment.  They also make the case for granular research on post-conflict transition processes, bridging knowledge between the trade and humanitarian communities, better understanding of the relationship between trade in natural resources and civil strife, and exploration of the different impacts of multilateral and regional trade arrangements, etc.   Guests: Patrick Low, Fellow of the Asia Global Institute and former Chief Economist of the WTO  Achim Wennmann, Advisor to the Director of Strategic Development and Partnerships at the Graduate Institute and former Executive Coordinator of the Geneva Peacebuilding Platform Host: Axel M. Role of Law Citation Reverend Monsignor Michael A. Souckar Since 1973, it has been the practice of the Canon Law Society of America to confer its highest honor on someone who has contributed in a particularly positive manner to the high ideals of this scholarly society, at service to the Church's mission to preach the Gospel of Jesus Christ and to exercise justice in accord with the truth and tempered by mercy. As the Universal Church observes the Year of Consecrated Life, this year's Role of Law recipient has given faithful witness to the evangelical counsels of poverty, chastity and obedience for 49 years. Our honoree, a native of Pawtucket, Rhode Island, was taught by religious sisters in secondary school and later entered religious life with the same community. Her vocation has led her to roles of service in the Church that she never could have anticipated, even after earning both the licentiate and doctorate in canon law at The Catholic University of America. Going beyond the usual works undertaken by women religious, our honoree was repeatedly called upon to serve the Church in ever more challenging and significant roles. Becoming the first woman religious to have “this” or “that” job became so common that it was, I dare say, no longer exceptional. Her talents, skills, knowledge and dedication to the mission of the Church were her credentials. And that was enough. As a teacher, our honoree has been a professor of canon law at CUA (where she taught religious law to my JCL class, the class of 1994). We were only one small group of many whom she has taught, whether in the classroom, at convention seminars for the CLSA or other Societies – canonical and non-canonical – in published scholarly articles, or simply by a friendly word of instruction, guidance or counsel. As an executive, our honoree has held roles of responsibility at the diocesan level, within her religious community, for groups of religious communities, and for the Conference of Bishops. With determination and with grace she has guided these respective authorities, even during turbulent times, to make decisions in accord with the Gospel and the law of the Church, and she has most ably assisted in the implementation of those decisions. She has been a loyal and active member of this society since 1984, and has served on several committees, the Board of Governors, and in the role of Executive Coordinator and President. Dear friends, during this Year of Consecrated Life, please join me in congratulating the 2015 recipient of the Role of Law Award, a Sister of Mercy and a daughter of the Church, Sister Sharon Euart, R.S.M.

Center of Compassion volunteers Julie Gregory, Executive Coordinator, and Karen Finnerty, Community Outreach Coordinator, discuss this complex of humanitarian activities that has been located in Dover Plains for the past eleven years. Founded by Sister Maureen of the Westchester’s Sisters of the Divine Compassion, The Center of Compassion runs a food bank, a weekly community lunch, a backpack program of food for school children, emergency meals for the home-bound, and a thrift store at 7 Market Street in Dover Plains. All the meals they provide are homemade by volunteers. The backpack program, one of their newer outreaches, provides about 50 to 80 children identified by the school system as in need with a Friday backpack filled with six well-balanced meals; the children return the empty backpack to the school on Monday. Mostly funded by local donors, The Center of Compassion also operated with a grant from the Regional Food Bank of the Hudson Valley. --- Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/radiorotary/support
