Today, we are used to thinking about the whole planet as a single unit, but for most of history, earth was in fact an entire galaxy of isolated human worlds. In this episode of Made You Think, Adil, Neil and I continue to discuss Sapiens by Yuval Harari. In this second part we cover the most recent part of Human and Society evolution and how we moved from scattered collection of isolated human beings to a cohesive global civilization. Prior to the Industrial Revolution, the daily life of most humans ran its course within three ancient frames: the nuclear family, the extended family and the local intimate community. Most people worked in the family business or their neighbours’ family businesses. The family was also the welfare system, the health system, the education system, the construction industry, the trade union, the pension fund, the insurance company, the radio, the television, the newspapers, the bank and even the police. Yet throughout history, such imagined communities played second fiddle to intimate communities of several dozen people who knew each other well. The intimate communities fulfilled the emotional needs of their members and were essential for everyone’s survival and welfare. In the last two centuries, the intimate communities have withered, leaving imagined communities to fill in the emotional vacuum. The two most important examples for the rise of such imagined communities are the nation and the consumer tribe. We cover a wide range of topics, including: Cognitive Dissonance as a survival feature of human beings The absurd of national identity when talking about ethnic cuisine Industrial Revolution, Internet, and the re-framing of communities Who was the first guy to circumnavigate the world How merchants shaped today’s world Meaning of Happiness And much more. Please enjoy, and be sure to grab a copy of Sapiens by Yuval Harari! If you enjoyed this episode, be sure to check out our episode on Discipline and Punish by Michel Foucault, a book that covers Postmodernism, a kind of Religion according to Harari, as well as our notes on The Way of Zen, to know more about Buddhism and the search of Peace. Examples: Democrats and Republican, Religion, and positions on immigration examples. The truth is that we don’t think in binary. 6:35 – "Traditional" ethnic recipes are made with non traditional ingredients. The idea of national identity fall into the absurd. Countries that claim an identity did not exist 200 or 300 years ago. 11:06 – The result of today's globalization comes from 3 groups: Money, States, and Religion. Subcultures. Turning point where we assumed we know what was in the world, to assume we didn't. Maps with empty spaces example. 28:25 – Space exploration and old World exploration is driven by greed and money. Science and dominance comes as an effect rather than a cause. 35:30 – Tangent. Crypto may spread with the availability of cryptocredit. 41:12 – War of merchants. The history under Wall Street. Why the British took Hong Kong. The main problem with pure market capitalism is that it's going to create growth, but we are not sure if it is in a good direction. People blinded by Capitalism. 47:00 – Industrial Revolution. Mentality shift to optimize for our own pleasure rather than building something bigger than ourselves. Gunpowder and steam engines example. E-Sports may lead the trend to monetize attention. 50:48 – Internet and micro-communities replacing local intimate physical ones and old “imagined” ones like States. Peculiarities, power, and limits of such communities. Some people argue that the Donalds subreddit was one of the big factors to turn Trump president. 57:11 – The costs and levels of different levels of communication: personal meeting, phone call, texting. The pattern that occurs with new technologies. Being aware and controlling unwanted effects of tech, to not fall tangled in it. 59:55 – Happiness. The lottery ticket and car accident examples. Our guest today is Josh Boltuch, the CEO of Fancy Hands and its subsidiary, On Demand Ops, and in this episode we talk about both firms. Fancy Hands is a network of thousands of U.S. based virtual assistants. You sign up for a set number of requests per month and pay a fixed monthly fee. Each request can be pretty much anything that can be done on the Internet or by phone – whether that is calling your utility company to complain about a charge on your bill, or researching the best BBQ joint to visit on your trip to Memphis. You don’t get a dedicated virtual assistant: each incoming request gets farmed out to the next available person who is a good fit for that assignment. On Demand Ops was launched by Fancy Hands in 2017 and is geared more towards the enterprise customer. A key service of On Demand Ops is large scale lead generation, for example. They’ll work with a client to develop and refine a script and a protocol, and then they will make thousands of phone calls that have the goal of setting up calls with qualified customers interested in hearing about the client’s project. They have sophisticated quality control and analytics that Josh describes in our discussion. As an independent professional you might not need this service for your own practice, but you may well have clients that are looking for a solution like this. For those who are interested in trying out Fancy Hands, Josh kindly offered a discount code to listeners of Unleashed. Use the code Unleashed when you sign up and you’ll get 50% off your first month’s subscription.

In this week's Best Life Ever podcast episode, we talk about hooking up your Future Self (HUYFS) for Fall and Winter. As we transition from Summer to Fall, we share ways that you can proactively leverage (and protect) your time and energy. The Fall season is notorious for being quite full. Some people associate Fall with “back to school craziness”, the start of “holiday madness”, and a cluster of birthdays (scientific fact: cozy winters and egg nog = Fall babies, do the math). What beliefs do you have about this season? Perhaps it brings up a warm spicy blend of emotional triggers for you from seasonal lattes to school open houses, family parties to crowded malls. Whatever beliefs (and therefore feelings) you have about these next few months, know this - while you can’t control how crowded a mall is, you CAN control your BELIEFS about this season, how you want to FEEL this season! If you adopt one new belief before we dive into the rest of this year, make it this one: “The past does not define me or my life. This year, I am focusing on what I can control and hooking up my future self to have an amazing Fall and Winter.” We’d love to hear your hacks for creating the Best Fall Ever and for rocking the second half of 2017! Today on Financial Fluency, I am pleased to have Rachel Feldman on the show. Rachel is works with lifestyle business coaches both online and brick and mortar in order to help them grow the business of their dreams, from the ground up, using free tools, and with little money. In her prior life, Rachel was in Commercial Real Estate, a profession she loved. When she began to have personal health issues, and realized that the health industry focuses on the one-cure-fits-all attitude, Rachel knew that one day she would be helping people in the health and lifestyle fields. Things took a turn for her when her family lost everything due to the crash in the stock market, and she had a decision to make. Go back to Commercial Real Estate, or find her passion and create something new. Without any experience, she started building her health coach business with a website and videos, and because she was afraid to speak in public, YouTube. Little did she know, she was building her online presence, and people were finding her via her online videos. She goes on to explain how to create your niche, by sharing your message, what problem are your solving, and how to express it in a way that others can relate to it, by sharing your story. About a year ago, Rachel made the switch from being a health coach, to being a business launch coach. For a successful sales funnel, here is Rachel’s list of must haves: Having 5-15 entry points, such as challenges, opt-in freebie, an audio, checklists, giveaways, raffles etc. to diversify your message and delivery to appeal to as many people as possible. Nurturing according to the nature of the entry point. Focussing on your client customer experience. Rachel Shares Her Message Here: “You can build a leakfree sales funnel from your business, we can all be doers, but you do have to believe in what you are doing because people buy a journey, people buy you, and they buy your service.” You can reach Rachel on her websites at www.rachelafeldman.com and www.healthcoachbiz.rachelswellness.com, on Facebook , on Twitter at @rachelafeldman, on Instagram, and on YouTube. Resources: Rachel’s “Done for You” Program: http://yourhealthcoachbiz.com/ Fancy Hands: https://www.fancyhands.com/ Hire My Mom: https://www.hiremymom.com/ Rachel Feldman is a wellness momma and business launch coach. After only earning 13K her first year in coaching, she knew she needed to learn how to create a sustainable business built with a solid sales funnel. Rachel went from making 13K to 72K by year 2 1/2 and then broke six figures in her third year of business. Rachel helps her clients to build profitable and sustainable businesses so they can build successful businesses online and offline. She works with coaches in her private practice and is the creator of the Done For You Programs for Health Coaches. She created these programs for coaches so they could spend less time creating and more time marketing their business and brand. She knows the importance of saving time being a Mom and a CEO.

The Strong Women’s Club Women's Success Stories in Business and in Life
Welcome to #SWC No 7! This is a quick, short and practical podcast with tips and tools to help you set and reach your goals, however big or small they may be. And brags! Today we have a brag from Brooke Davenport, and this is what Brooke has to say: “Hello, my name's Brooke and my brag for today is I have stepped outside of my comfort zone. With prompting from Edie, I have agreed to be a guest on a podcast with someone in my industry. This is totally outside of my comfort zone, I am not one to get on a live recording and do a brag, so this is kind of cool. I'm definitely not someone that would ever have planned to get on a podcast and be a guest for a 30 to 40-minute show. But because of Edie, she encouraged me to do so. I am in a private Mastermind group with Edie. Absolutely love and look forward to every single weekly session that we do, and Edie, I just want to thank you, I want to thank you for helping me step outside of my comfort zone, and for putting on this wonderful podcast, The Strong Women's Club. So thank you to all and have a wonderful day!” Thank you, Brooke, for saying such nice things! I also love our Mastermind, and you're right to be proud and a little nervous to be on your first podcast. Though I know that you're scared now, but it's a little bit more like stage fright. I know that you know that you have a lot to say about your business and it's not as hard as you think. Also hearing yourself record is a bit strange to start out with, but you get used to that quickly. And I can't wait to hear you on that podcast! If anybody else wants to check out Brooke's website and her business and find out more about her, Brooke's website is Blinds and More (www.blinds-more.com) Today's Tip I want to talk about a website which is an online service called Fancy Hands. Fancy Hands provides you with virtual assistants or personal assistant services. It's very inexpensive and very, very fast. What you do is you pay Fancy Hands a monthly fee, and you get a certain number of requests for that fee. Each request is considered about 20 minutes work. So I think I pay for six requests a month and it costs me $30 a month, so that's $5.00 per request, if I'm not wrong. And if you don't use your requests in a certain month, it's accrued to the following month, so they're not lost. You can access FancyHands from their website dashboard on your computer, or you can use it on an app on your smartphone, you can call them, or send them an SMS, it's very very convenient. You can do very simple things, or you can do things that are a little bit more complicated. For example, you could ask somebody to make a reservation at a restaurant for you; or you could set up a conference call through them, and they give you those services. I use them a lot for two things: One is I transcribe these short #SWC episodes, they do it for me. It's only one request, and they do it really quickly. I'll finish recording it now, in the evening, send it off to them, and they'll have it back for me by the time I wake up in the morning! It's fantastic. The other thing I use it for is for doing market research. For example, I might want to find out about women's leadership conferences. So I'll put in a request that will say, "Please research the 20 women's leadership conferences for 2016 and 2017”. I might set up a Google doc for that, or a Google sheet with the headings, or just tell them what headings to put in the Google sheet, and send it off. And then, if it will take more than one request to complete ( a request like that would take more than 20 minutes), either I say to them in the initial request to go ahead and use as many as you like, or they automatically will write back and say, "Thank you, I've started this project, but it's going to take more than one request. I think it will take 3-4 requests". Then you have to agree, or not. The only real minus that I see with this service is that you don't get to choose your assistant, and you can't have the same assistant every time. It's whoever answers the email. First come, first serve. So sometimes the work is done better than other times, but usually, I'm very happy with the service. Lately, I've been using FancyHands a lot, especially for market research. Here is a link to Fancy Hands: it is an affiliate link, which means two things: You get 50% off your first month I will get a couple of extra requests, I think, if you use that. To try FancyHands and get 50% off the first month click here So, check them out, see if you like them, let me know. And that's it for today. So have an awesome week, thanks again to Brooke Davenport for coming onto the program, and go, be strong!

The quality of your life is directly impacted by the quality of your habits. The problem is, most of us did not consciously choose to habits we currently possess. We drifted, stumbled, or otherwise accidentally acquired most of our habits. Not all of those habits support the outcomes we truly want for ourselves or the ones we love. In today's episode, we will examine five common habits that will completely wreck your life and how to get rid of them. Tip of the Week: Maybe you read The Four Hour Workweek and tried to outsource different parts of your job or business. Maybe that even worked well for you. And maybe, just maybe, you are still kind of stressed out. Perry Marshall suggested something to me once that was actually life-changing. It's one of those “tiny hinges that swing big doors”. It's a twist on the idea of outsourcing. What if, instead of outsourcing high-level tasks at your job or business, you outsourced tasks in your personal life? You may scoff at first, but think about it: if you could outsource things like your laundry, yard maintenance, shopping, cooking, cleaning, mail pickup and drop-off, etc… how much time and energy would that free up for you? Perry's suggestion to me was that it's better to start by outsourcing those things to clear out space in my life so that I could have time for critical thinking. This gives me margin so that I can spend time on creating ideas, reading, making connections, and generally performing the kind of alchemy that entrepreneurs get paid for. I've been experimenting with this idea in a serious way recently, and my latest find came to me through my friend Stu McLaren, who turned me on to Fancy Hands. Basically, Fancy Hands will do anything for you that can be done in 15 minutes or less. So far I've had them: Research a long list of inspirational quotes for an upcoming presentation. Find me the best deal on a Keurig coffee maker. Proof some blog posts. Find and recommend a list of local people who might be available to do some personal assistant work for me (like the things I listed above). One of the things I really like about their service is they calculate how much time you've saved by having them do this stuff for you. So far, I've invested about 10 minutes typing up the tasks I wanted them to work on: they estimate they saved me 1.4 hours. I think that's about right. Currently, I plan to have them proofread all my blog posts, which I estimate should save me anywhere from 4 to 6 hours per month. Not that I spent that much time proofreading my blog posts, mind you…that estimate comes from the number of emails I get from people who say things like, “Do you realize what a goofy typo you made in this blog post?” For the record, I had them proof this post. How did they do? This is a very easy service to try, and if you decide to stick with them it's cheap. And there's no contract. Click here to check out Fancy Hands now. Spiritual Foundations: Are you worried, anxious, stressed out, overwhelmed? If you are troubled about a lot of different things today, I have an answer for you. You've heard me talk about a book called The One Thing by Gary Keller and Jay Papasan. And that is indeed a good book. You've also heard me talk about a book called Essentialism, By Greg McKeown. That is also a good book. But in truth, there is really only a single “one thing” that is essential to a fulfilled and peaceful life. And you'll find that story in a different good book-the Bible. In the Gospel of Luke, chapter 10, we read the story of Jesus visiting the home of two sisters, Martha and Mary. Martha was fluttering around the house working hard at being “the hostess with the mostest”. She wanted everything to be just right. Mary, on the other hand was sitting at Jesus's feet, soaking up everything he had to say. It didn't take very long for Martha to get angry, and she apparently felt angry enough that she rebuked Jesus! She said to him, “Lord, don't you care that my sister has left me to do all the work? Tell her to help me!” Technically, Martha was correct in her assessment. In that culture, and at that time, it was considered improper for a woman to be sitting at the feet of the teacher. And it was also considered good manners to prepare food and serve your guests. Jesus was gentle, but he came down on the side of Mary. But the Lord answered her, “Martha, Martha, you are anxious and troubled about many things, but one thing is necessary. Mary has chosen the good portion, which will not be taken away from her.” Luke 10:41-42 The emphasis on “one thing” is mine. So what is the “one thing” that Mary chose? It was to sit at the feet of Jesus, and listen to what he had to say. If you have a lot on your mind today, the one thing you need to do is to sit at the feet of Jesus and soak up his words. He has an unlimited supply of grace, wisdom, and peace. We tend to get busy doing things when we are anxious. We often transfer that into our spiritual life, thinking if we can just serve God at some higher level then he will bless us. That's exactly what Martha was doing-and it wasn't working. That's not to say that serving God is a bad thing. In fact, it's worth noticing that Jesus did not rebuke Martha for the service; he gently corrected her for being “worried and troubled about many things.” You might say, “Ray, how can I sit at the feet of Jesus and listen to his words now that he's no longer on the earth?” Two things to consider: First, we as believers are the “body of Christ” on the earth. Jesus resides in your brothers and sisters who follow him. He can speak to you through them: through their words, through their prayers, and their acts of service. Second, Jesus recorded his words for us through the Holy Spirit in the New Testament. And of course, all Scripture is inspired by God, so the entire Bible is his word. You can have it with you all the time-even on your smart phone! The next time you are “worried about many things”, why not try doing “the one thing that is necessary” and listen to the words of your Savior? Feature Presentation: Five Bad Habits That Will Wreck Your Life The forces that shape our lives are usually more glacial than catastrophic. Meaning, they work over time like the ancient glaciers that carved out the mountains, moving inch by inch over the span of years. The glacial power of life change is often contained in the habits we form-the things we routinely do without thinking about it, over and over again, year after year. “Sow a thought, reap an action; sow an action, reap a habit; sow a habit, reap a character; sow a character, reap a destiny.” ~ Stephen R. Covey, The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People Here are five bad habits that are virtually guaranteed to wreck your life. The habit of reactivity. The habit of poor association. The habit of procrastination. The habit of instant gratification. The habit of victimhood. Of course, I'm not going to leave you hanging. Once you've decided to get rid of these bad habits, you need to replace them with good ones. These are five good habits that will enhance your life. They are the antithesis of the bad habits we just discussed. The habit of proactivity. The habit of intentional association. The habit of advance preparation, and the power of the compound affect. The habit of delayed gratification. The habit of the victorious mindset. Cultivate these habits for 30 days and I guarantee you will see a dramatic change in the quality of your life.
