The Northern Ireland under-secretary of state Fleur Anderson has said publicly that opinion polls will determine if and when a referendum on Irish unity is called. It's never been exactly clear what would trigger a poll on a united Ireland – so has she overstepped the mark, made a mistake or actually let the cat out of the bag. And who are this middle-ground who have the magic votes? Ciarán Dunbar is joined by Professor Jon Tonge from the University of Liverpool and political commentator Ursula Savage. Hosted on Acast.

Fleur Anderson is a cotton farmer and a serial entrepreneur. She's held several senior roles in ag, and now leads the Statewide team in the Office for Rural and Regional Queensland in the Department of Premier and Cabinet. Fleur has carved out a career for herself from a town of just 500 people. She's highly respected in our industry professionally, personally though, she told me she's never shared her story openly like this. Fleur admits she was bit of a rebel at school, a rule breaker, and couldn't wait to kick start a career in agriculture. It hasn't all been smooth sailing though. Fleur has survived cancer... twice. First at just 17, and then again just four years ago. If you take just one thing away from my chat with Fleur, let it be this.... book that check up, that pap smear, that mammogram. Don't wait. This is her story. Christmas book list! Get your hands on Fleur McDonald's latest gripping crime novel, Broad River Station. A young police officer faces prejudice in a small country town, until the search for a missing child changes everything. Fleur's incredible books are inspired by life on the land, and Broad River Station is available now in all good bookstores and online.

This episode we delve into the advantages of new protein markets and the rise of plant based meats. In February 2020 an AgriFutures Australia report: The Changing Landscape of Protein Production; opportunities and challenges for Australian agriculture, identified the rise of alternative proteins in food markets garnering much attention over the past 18 months. It states that forecast global demand for protein is strong and will accommodate for growth in both sectors and although alternative protein substitution will continue to increase over the next 10 years this increase will not produce any material threat to the viability of animal agriculture by 2030.The figures in this report estimate that the additional opportunity for the protein market in 2030 is estimated at $19. 9 billion of which $3.1 billion is for alternative protein categories. All in all it says the emergence of alternative proteins should not be viewed as a threat but a means of diversification for the producer, processor and consumer.Speakers: Jack Cowin, Founder and CEO, Competitive Foods Australia (inc Hungry Jacks)Nick Hazell, Founder and CEO, v2foodJames Madden, Flinders + Co

Winner! As always, there’s a Wikipedia article on the subject of Angel Investing, https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Angel_investor but to be honest, Kris does a much better job at explaining it.Kris also talks about her own motivation behind her ever expanding skill set, including a real respect for Richard Branson’s philosophy ‘make the pie bigger’. https://www.ted.com/talks/richard_branson_s_life_at_30_000_feet
