(This is an unscripted devotional sharing the story of a 7 year miracle in the making.) Story of the Prodigal – Luke 15: 11-24 Waited for 4 years – began to run out of hope – tried in desperation to do it my way – to regain control – to force, manipulate Story of Waiting – John 5: 2-9 38 years, but he still showed up there. He still had someone carry him there that day to await for the healing that still hadn’t come. God asked me for 30 years. Would I still trust him if it took 30 years for my daughter to come home? Would I choose joy over misery while waiting for 30 years? The moment I intentionally chose joy even if it took 30 years, I was given the gift of PEACE. Isaiah 26:3, “You will keep in perfect peace all who trust in you, all whose thoughts are fixed on you!” Although God asked me for 30 years, HE DID IT IN SEVEN!!!!!!! The wedding – the party – the perfect peace! Here’s what I have learned: • 1. In the wait, you have a choice – choose faith and joy. Misery does not honor God. Psalm 42:11, “Why am I discouraged? Why is my heart so sad? I will put my hope in God! I will praise him again – my Savior and my God!” • 2. There’s power in your thoughts. KEEP YOUR THOUGHTS FIXED ON GOD and HIS PROMISES. Again, Isaiah 26:3, “You will keep in perfect peace all who trust in you, all whose thoughts are fixed on you!” • 3. You can’t always make it better, but you can make it worse – DON’T MAKE IT WORSE. • 4. Do everything in LOVE. If you can’t do it in love, don’t do it. • 5. Stop trying to save them from their testimony. Let God do his work in their lives. • 6. God is faithful beyond measure and his promises will stand through it all. (God had made promises to the Israelites of a future home of bountiful provision and blessings. A land he would make their own after hundreds of years of slavery in Egypt. Although the Israelites got lost along the way, wandered and wavered, God brought them to the land he promised. Joshua 21:43-45, “So the Lord gave to Israel all the land he had sworn to give their ancestors, and they took possession of it and settled there. And the Lord gave them rest on every side, just as he had solemnly promised their ancestors. None of their enemies could stand against them, for the Lord helped them conquer all their enemies. NOT A SINGLE ONE OF ALL THE GOOD PROMISES THE LORD HAD GIVEN TO THE FAMILY OF ISRAEL WAS LEFT UNFULFILLED; EVERYTHING HE HAD SPOKE CAME TRUE.” • 7. Drop your expectations of perfection and trust God’s eternal plan. Every single thing I “wished” wouldn’t happen actually happened and then God used it all for good. I wished there wouldn’t be drugs or addiction involved. Then there was. God worked with that. I wished there wouldn’t be a baby. Then there was. God worked with that. I wished it wouldn’t get worse before it got better. Then it got worse. God worked with that. If you’re so busy with expectations of what you think it’s supposed to look like, you may miss the full blessing of God’s best plans. Proverbs 19:21, “You can make many plans, but the Lord’s purpose will prevail.” Isaiah 55:8 the Lord says, “My ways are far beyond anything you could imagine.” JUST TRUST HIM – HIS PLAN – HIS TIMING – HIS WAYS! You know what I realize now … God wasn’t just working on my daughter, HE WAS WORKING ON ME! I had so much to learn and so far to grow. I can honestly say today I’m better because of the long hard wait. I know how to pray. I know how to trust. I know how to seek. I know how to love. I know how to wait. I know how to live in peace. I know how to choose joy. If God pulled off a 7 year miracle for my family, he can pull off a 7 year miracle for your family! If I could find peace and joy in the wait, my friend, so can you! If God can receive glory in my story, then he can receive glory in your story. Welcome back to Your World of Creativity, where we travel the globe talking with creative professionals who turn ideas into impact.Today, we're stamping our creative passport in Geneva, Switzerland to talk about the power of story — specifically, how organizations can transform their messaging when they stop talking about themselves and start seeing the world through the eyes of their customers. Our guest is John Elbing, business storytelling consultant, founder of Standpoint, and creator of the Storybuilding method.https://standpoint.chhttps://linkedin.com/in/elbingJohn helps organizations flip the script by building brand stories from the customer's perspective rather than from inside the organization. His work helps leadership and marketing teams sharpen positioning, align messaging, and simplify marketing decisions. He's also the author of the international bestselling book Storybuilding. Why Most Brand Stories Miss the MarkJohn, many companies think they already have a strong story — but often that story is centered on themselves instead of the customer. What's the biggest mistake organizations make when they build their messaging from the inside out instead of from the customer's perspective? And how does that shift in perspective change the way a brand connects emotionally with people? The Storybuilding MethodYou created the Storybuilding method as a practical framework for organizations.Walk us through the core idea behind Storybuilding. How do you help leadership and marketing teams move from simply “telling a story” to actually building one that shapes alignment, positioning, and growth?Story as a Tool for Team AlignmentOne thing I find fascinating in your work is that storytelling isn't just external marketing — it becomes an internal alignment tool. How does a shared story help teams make clearer decisions about branding, marketing, and even company direction?Have you seen organizations transform simply because they finally got everyone speaking the same narrative language?Emotion, Perception, and Being RememberedYou often talk about how brands should focus not only on what they do, but how they are seen and felt by their audience. Why is emotional perception such an important part of storytelling today? (You'll enjoy the personal story about the artwork on John's wall.)And what can businesses do to create stories that people actually remember — and respond to?Flipping the Script on Your Own StoryFor entrepreneurs, consultants, and creatives listening today, many are deeply attached to their own story and expertise. What advice would you give someone who needs to flip the script and start seeing their brand from the audience's standpoint instead of their own? John shares an idea he calls “trigger moments.” And what tends to happen when they finally make that shift?John, if listeners walk away with just one insight about storytelling and brand positioning, what would you most want them to remember? If you enjoyed this episode, subscribe, share it with a colleague or creative friend, and leave us a review. And remember: sometimes the most powerful shift in creativity happens when you stop asking, “What do we want to say?” and start asking, “What does our audience need to feel?”
Episode 425: In May 1934, five identical girls were born in a farmhouse outside Corbeil, Ontario. They were the first quintuplets known to survive infancy anywhere in the world. Within weeks, the Province of Ontario had taken them from their parents. What followed was nine years inside a government-run compound called Quintland, where millions of tourists paid to watch the Dionne sisters play through one-way glass, twice a day, while their faces sold soap, cereal, and corn syrup across North America. The girls went home in 1943. The horror of what happened next took decades to come to light. A broke private eye rides south to explain away a little girl's imaginary friend, and walks out of a pine-country farmhouse convinced the old man pushing her on the swing has been dead for years.EPISODE PAGE (includes list of sources): https://weirddarkness.com/noir-oldmanonsutterlaneTRANSCRIPT: https://weirddarkness.tiny.us/2p84f78kTHE REAL CASE BEHIND THIS STORY: In February 1989, Andy and Lisa Wyrick moved into a brick ranch house on Swint Loop in Ellerslie, Georgia, a small town in Harris County about a hundred miles south of Atlanta. The land had once been an antebellum plantation, and the previous owners had walked off and left the house abandoned long enough for it to go to auction. The following month, the Wyricks' three-year-old daughter Heidi began describing visits from an elderly man she called Mr. Gordy — silver-gray hair, dark suit, top hat, shiny black shoes — who pushed her on the backyard swing. Not long after, a wounded man she called Con appeared at the front door, a bloody bandage on his arm and blood soaking his shirt. Both were eventually tied to deceased local figures. James S. Gordy had run a real estate company in Columbus, Georgia, served for years as Sunday school superintendent at Ellison Methodist Church, and was connected to the Swint Loop property as executor and caretaker before his death. (His death year appears inconsistently across sources, with some citing 1972 and most citing 1974; either way, he died well over a decade before Heidi was born.) Lon "Con" Batchelor had lost his hand in a cotton gin accident as a teenager, returned home in bloodied clothing with his arm in bandages, and died of cancer in 1957. Heidi, who could not yet read, picked Gordy out of a blind photo lineup and walked directly to his grave among hundreds of headstones in a local cemetery. She identified Batchelor — whose name she'd heard as "Con" — from a family photograph brought to the house by Catherine Ledford, who had previously owned the adjacent property and knew the family history.Beginning in 1993, the activity escalated sharply. Heidi and other family members began seeing a black, hooded, faceless figure that moved through the house, stood in Heidi's closet, and appeared at the foot of her bed. Objects moved on their own; a kitchen chair pulled itself from the table in front of two witnesses; scratches appeared on Heidi and her father Andy across consecutive nights. The Wyricks' second daughter, Jordan, born February 3, 1994, later began reporting interactions with an unseen child. Parapsychologist Dr. William Roll — an Oxford-educated psychologist who had spent eight years researching at Oxford before building a scientific reputation studying haunting phenomena — investigated the case. He recorded an electromagnetic field spike to over forty milligauss in the parents' bedroom against a residential baseline near one-tenth of a milligauss, found elevated positive ion concentrations near Heidi's room, and tied her perceptions to environmental sensitivity and documented seismic activity in the Columbus region. He could not explain the scratches. Roll also traced a reported family history of psychic sensitivity across several generations, extending back to Lisa's mother and to land in north Georgia along the Trail of Tears route.Roll brought in medium Amy Allan — later known to television audiences through The Dead Files — who walked the property under blind conditions and identified three entities in the back rooms: two older men and a faceless dark presence. A second psychic, brought in separately by the family, named the same three entities in the same locations and identified the fireplace as a portal. Years of mounting medical bills kept the Wyricks in the house long after they wanted to leave. After Heidi was found suspended upside down above her bed by an unseen force, they sold the property when she reached her mid-teens. She reported seeing apparitions in the homes that followed.Andy Wyrick died in 2012 at age 45; no cause of death has been widely reported. Dr. William Roll died the same year, in February 2012. Heidi Wyrick married a man named Aaron, relocated to Columbus, and built a career in the medical field. She stopped seeing Mr. Gordy around age eight but still reports seeing the dark figure, and has said in interviews across many years that not a day passes when she doesn't wish the events had never happened. The case was featured on Unsolved Mysteries in 1994, profiled in the Discovery Channel's 2002 documentary A Haunting in Georgia, and served as source material for the 2013 film The Haunting in Connecticut 2: Ghosts of Georgia. Fish Oil Supplements And Alzheimer's-Related Decline A two-year randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled trial led by researchers at USC tested whether 2,000 mg of DHA fish oil daily could slow Alzheimer's-related brain changes in 365 adults ages 55–80 who rarely consumed fish and had at least one Alzheimer's risk factor. Researchers confirmed the supplement reached the brain by measuring a roughly 17% increase in cerebrospinal fluid DHA after six months. Despite successfully increasing brain DHA levels, participants taking fish oil showed no significant improvements in memory, global cognitive function, or hippocampal volume compared to placebo after two years. Host Dave Asprey explains why raising a single biomarker doesn't always translate into better brain performance, why nutrition works differently inside a complete dietary pattern than as an isolated supplement, and what this study means for anyone relying on fish oil as an Alzheimer's prevention strategy. Sources: https://medicalxpress.com/news/2026-06-fish-oil-supplements-alzheimer-decline.pdf https://www.cnn.com/2026/06/18/health/omega-3-fish-oil-algae-supplement-wellness ~~ DASH Diet Showed the Strongest Link to Long-Term Brain Health Researchers from Harvard analyzed dietary data from 159,347 participants across three long-running U.S. health studies to examine how eating patterns influence cognitive aging. Participants completed dietary questionnaires every four years over several decades, allowing investigators to compare six healthy dietary patterns, including the DASH and Mediterranean diets. While all six were associated with better cognitive health later in life, adherence to the DASH diet produced the strongest association, with participants showing roughly a 40% lower risk of subjective cognitive decline and stronger performance on objective cognitive testing. The protective relationship was strongest when healthy eating habits began during midlife. Host Dave Asprey breaks down why blood sugar control, lower inflammation, and healthier blood vessels may be the real drivers behind long-term brain resilience, and why your dietary choices in your 40s and 50s may have an outsized impact on cognitive aging decades later. Sources: https://jamanetwork.com/journals/jamaneurology/article-abstract/2845466 https://www.health.harvard.edu/diet-and-nutrition/harvard-study-six-healthy-diets-linked-with-better-long-term-brain-health https://www.eurekalert.org/news-releases/1117225 ~~ Scientists Identified an Ancient Brain Circuit That Filters Distractions Johns Hopkins researchers discovered a small population of inhibitory neurons within an evolutionarily ancient brainstem region that appears to control selective attention by determining which sensory information deserves focus and which distractions should be ignored. Mice trained on visual attention tasks consistently ignored irrelevant stimuli until researchers temporarily silenced these neurons, causing even weak distractions to hijack their attention while leaving vision and movement otherwise unaffected. Similar brain circuits exist in birds, reptiles, and other vertebrates, suggesting this attentional filtering system evolved long before the modern human cortex. Host Dave Asprey explains why attention may depend on much older brain circuitry than previously believed, how this discovery could reshape our understanding of ADHD and autism, and why future therapies may target the brainstem instead of the prefrontal cortex. Sources: https://www.sciencedaily.com/releases/2026/06/260624025426.htm ~~ Nearly Half of Older Adults Improved With Age Instead of Declining A Yale-led study followed 11,340 adults age 65 and older for up to 12 years using repeated measurements of cognition and walking speed to better understand how aging changes over time. Rather than finding universal decline, researchers discovered that 45% of participants improved in either cognitive function, physical performance, or both. Nearly one-third experienced measurable cognitive improvements, while over one-quarter improved physically. Researchers also found that participants with more positive beliefs about aging were significantly more likely to improve, even after accounting for education, chronic illness, depression, and other health factors. Host Dave Asprey explores why expectations about aging may become biologically embedded, why decline is far less inevitable than conventional medicine often assumes, and how mindset may directly influence healthy longevity. Sources: https://www.sciencedaily.com/releases/2026/06/260620100428.htm ~~ Glyphosate May Be Contributing to Antibiotic-Resistant Superbugs Researchers publishing in Frontiers in Microbiology examined 102 bacterial strains collected from hospitals, agricultural land, and protected wetlands to investigate whether glyphosate exposure contributes to multidrug antibiotic resistance. Hospital bacteria demonstrated extensive resistance to both antibiotics and glyphosate, while even bacteria living inside protected nature reserves displayed measurable glyphosate resistance despite no direct herbicide application. Genetic analysis suggested resistant bacterial strains may move between agricultural environments and hospitals through shared waterways and sediments. The researchers argue pesticide safety testing should also evaluate whether chemicals encourage antibiotic resistance, one of the world's fastest-growing public health threats. Host Dave Asprey explains why environmental toxins may have unintended effects on the human microbiome, how herbicides could influence antimicrobial resistance beyond farming, and why environmental biology increasingly belongs in conversations about human health. Sources: https://www.sciencedaily.com/releases/2026/06/260620100434.htm https://www.openaccessgovernment.org/common-weedkiller-glyphosate-linked-to-rise-in-superbugs-scientists-warn/207515/ ~~ Butterflies That Barely Age Could Unlock New Longevity Pathways Researchers from the University of Bristol found that Heliconius butterflies live dramatically longer than closely related butterfly species while aging much more slowly. In one comparison, Heliconius hewitsoni survived up to 348 days, while a closely related species lived only 14 days. Unlike most butterflies, Heliconius feed on pollen throughout adulthood, providing amino acids that help preserve muscle function and physical performance with age. However, even when pollen was removed, these butterflies still significantly outlived their relatives, suggesting evolved genetic and metabolic mechanisms also contribute to their exceptional longevity. Host Dave Asprey explores why nature continues to provide unexpected models for slowing biological aging, what scientists hope to learn from species that naturally maintain function over time, and how comparative biology may uncover entirely new pathways for extending human healthspan. Sources: https://www.sciencedaily.com/releases/2026/06/260622014302.htm ~~ This episode is designed for biohackers, longevity enthusiasts, and high-performance listeners who want mechanism-level insights into omega-3 supplementation and Alzheimer's prevention, nutrition strategies for preserving cognitive health, newly discovered brain circuits controlling attention, the surprising biology behind healthy aging, environmental drivers of antibiotic resistance, and what one remarkably long-lived butterfly can teach us about extending healthspan. Host Dave Asprey connects randomized clinical trials, large population studies, neuroscience discoveries, microbiology research, and evolutionary biology into practical frameworks for improving brain performance, resilience, and longevity. Story of the Week (DR):JP Morgan's news weekThe Lurid Lawsuit, Salami Scandal and Trash-Can Thief Vexing JPMorgan's PR Department AND Meme of 'JPMorgan's HR Department in 2026' Has People in Stitches Amid Sex Scandal and Knicks Bin IncidentShe Stole a Knicks Trash Can Off the Street and Lost Her Job at JPMorganThe Trash Bin That Cost Her Career: Who Is Angie Báez? JPMorgan DEI Executive Fired After Viral Knicks Parade VideoThe Trash-Can Thief: Angie Báez, an Executive Director of Community and Industry Engagement at the bank, was captured on a viral video during the New York Knicks championship parade emptying a public trash bin onto a Manhattan sidewalk so she could steal the limited-edition, blue-and-orange Knicks-themed container. The Resolution: JPMorgan quickly terminated her employment after the video went viral. Báez eventually returned the trash bin and was issued $175 in sanitation fines. But what kinds of thing DON'T get you fired and get you fined? In 2023, JPMorgan Chase agreed to a $290 million (1,657,143x) settlement to resolve a class-action lawsuit from survivors of Jeffrey Epstein. The bank was accused of actively ignoring glaring red flags and helping bankroll Epstein's sex-trafficking operation for 15 years.Internal documents and later congressional probes revealed that the bank processed roughly 4,700 suspicious transactions totaling $1.1 billion for Epstein. They failed to file a single Suspicious Activity Report (SAR) until after his death.Who Kept Their Job? Mary Erdoes: The Head of Asset & Wealth Management was fully aware of Epstein's status as a high-risk sex offender, reviewed his account, and was directly implicated in internal communications regarding his status. She faced zero professional demotions and remains one of the top candidates to eventually succeed Jamie Dimon as CEO.In 2020, JPMorgan Chase entered a deferred prosecution agreement and agreed to pay a record $920 million (5,257,143x) to settle federal charges of market manipulation. For nearly a decade, traders on JPMorgan's precious metals and U.S. Treasuries desks engaged in "spoofing"—placing tens of thousands of fake, deceptive orders to artificially move market prices and maximize their own profits. The FBI stated that traders "openly disregarded U.S. laws."While a couple of mid-to-high-level traders (like Michael Nowak and Gregg Smith) were later criminally convicted and sentenced to prison, the executive leadership team responsible for supervising them and implementing compliance programs suffered no casualties. Top management stayed perfectly secure, chalking the multi-million dollar fraud up as the work of a few "bad apples."The Salami Scandal: Veteran wealth manager Brent Bodner was fired by JPMorgan in 2024 after he expensed a $642.50 deli platter (containing wings, sandwiches, and salads) for a Super Bowl gathering at his Beverly Hills home. The bank accused him of intentionally misclassifying a personal party as a pre-approved business meeting.Bodner counter-sued, jokingly dubbing the controversy the "salami incident." He argued that the event was a legitimate client-acquisition dinner that only two prospects ended up attending, and that the minor coding error was used as a pretext to push him out.The Resolution: A FINRA arbitration panel sided heavily with Bodner, ruling that JPMorgan acted preemptively out of paranoia that brokers were leaving for rivals. The panel ordered JPMorgan to pay Bodner $4.25 million in damages. The Lurid Lawsuit: Chirayu Rana, a former vice president on JPMorgan's leveraged finance team, leveled highly salacious allegations against his female supervisor, Executive Director Lorna Hajdini. Rana's lawsuit alleges he was subjected to a campaign of racial discrimination, severe harassment, and forced sexual relations under the threat of having his career sabotaged. The Resolution: Rana rejected a $1M settlement offer, countering with a demand for up to $22 million before escalating the fight to court. Both Hajdini and JPMorgan strongly deny the allegations as entirely fabricated, and the legal battle is moving toward a highly publicized trial.JPMorgan Chase promotes Petno, Rohrbaugh to copresidents, setting up two more successors for DimonThe Wait to Replace Jamie Dimon Keeps Getting Longer: Another potential successor, Marianne Lake, is leaving JPMorgan, as the longstanding chief executive enters his third decade atop the bank. How JPMorgan went from 3 female CEO contenders to an all-male succession raceJPMorgan named Doug Petno and Troy Rohrbaugh, current co-heads of the bank's commercial and investment bank, as co-presidents, setting them up as the frontrunners to succeed longtime CEO Jamie Dimon. Their promotions, the bank said in a press release, "are part of the Board's ongoing succession planning process."Petno and Rohrbaugh were among a handful of powerhouse candidates poised to succeed Dimon, including Jennifer Piepszak, chief operating officer, Marianne Lake, CEO of the commercial bank, and Mary Erdoes, CEO of asset and wealth management.Marianne Lake, a Potential Dimon Successor, Leaves JPMorganOne-time Retention and Continuity equity awards to the following Operating Committee members:Doug Petno, Co-President and CEO of the Commercial & Investment Bank, and Troy Rohrbaugh, Co-President and CEO of Consumer & Community Banking, in the amount of $30M each;Mary Erdoes, CEO of Asset & Wealth Management, and Jennifer Piepszak, Chief Operating Officer, in the amount of $20M each.JPMorgan Chase unveils $50 billion buyback, Goldman Sachs raises dividend after Fed stress testA 6 year study shows which CEOs are pushing RTO mandates: The ones with the biggest egosFortune 500 bosses demanding staff return to the office share one trait: narcissism, research findsA six-year study tracking corporate executives revealed that strict return-to-office (RTO) mandates are heavily driven by narcissism and executive ego, rather than actual employee productivityWharton organizational psychologist Adam Grant noted that researchers used reliable corporate proxies to quantify CEO narcissism, including the oversized scale of their compensation packages, the size of their signatures, and the prominence of their photos in company annual reports. The data showed that leaders with highly inflated self-opinions consistently coveted maximum power and status, making them the most aggressive opponents of remote work.Goldman Sachs and JPMorgan pushed hard for a 5-day-a-week return to the office. Most supplement brands start with a formula. Jason Dyer started with a philosophy. Ramon Vela sits down with Jason Dyer, Co-Founder of Farmana, for a deeply thoughtful conversation about twenty-two years of experience in the health and wellness industry, a personal transformation that changed everything, and a brand built on the radical idea that real nutrition should begin where it always has: the farm. * Health is a verb, not an adjective. Jason's core belief, forged through over two decades in the supplement industry, is that health is something you continuously do, not something you have. That insight is baked into every Farmana product and every decision the brand makes. * Farm to function. Farmana bridges the gap between whole food nutrition and functional supplementation, taking real, nutrient-dense ingredients from carefully vetted organic farmers and preserving their goodness through a proprietary freeze-drying process that keeps the food as close to its original state as possible. * The personal transformation behind the brand. Five years ago Jason weighed 260 pounds. Not through radical change but through a large quantity of small conscious choices, he found himself in the best health of his life at 46. That lived experience is the real origin story of Farmana. * The sea of compromise in the supplement aisle. With 25,000 products and 400 brands on typical health food store shelves, consumers face more confusion than clarity. Farmana was built to cut through that noise with formulations that don't compromise, combining whole food nutrition with proven functional ingredients in a single product. * Patience over guilt. Jason's most powerful message for anyone on a health journey: stop carrying the guilt of what you haven't done and start taking one conscious step at a time. You didn't get here overnight. You won't get out of it overnight either. Join us in listening to this episode for a conversation that is as much about mindset as it is about nutrition. Jason brings twenty-two years of industry experience, a personal story of transformation, and a genuine belief that better health is available to everyone willing to take that one next step. The Buddha taught a path of awakened living, but how does that manifest in today's world of constant connectivity and widespread suffering? How do we keep our hearts open without being defined or hardened by the pain that surrounds us, whether personal, collective, or historical? How do we navigate the paradox of holding both pain and joy, without mistaking suffering for punishment or personal failure? Can we infuse our compassion with wisdom and perspective to find the agency to take meaningful action in our communities? In her new series, Engaged Compassion, Sharon delves into these questions and more, engaging in candid conversations with a diverse group of teachers, activists, and changemakers. For the seventh episode in the series, Sharon's speaks with teacher Geshe Lobsang Tenzin Negi, marking his first appearance on the Metta Hour.Geshe Lobsang Tenzin Negi, PhD, is the cofounder and director of the Emory-Tibet Partnership, a multi-dimensional initiative founded in 1998 to bring together the foremost contributions of the Western scholastic tradition and the Tibetan Buddhist sciences of mind and healing. Geshe Lobsang, a former monk, was born in Kinnaur, a small Himalayan kingdom adjoining Tibet. He began his monastic training at the Institute of Buddhist Dialectics and continued his education at Drepung Loseling Monastery in south India, where he received his Geshe Lharampa degree in 1994, the highest academic degree granted in the Tibetan Buddhist tradition. In this conversation, Geshe and Sharon speak about:• How Geshe grew up in the Himalayas • Becoming a monk at age 14 in 1974• Geshe and Sharon's first meeting • Center for Contemplative Science and Compassion-Based Ethics• Cognitively Based Compassion Training • What neuroscience says about compassion• Tania Singer's research work• Richie Davidson's discovery with neuroplasticity• The inner qualities that are actually skills• Putting compassion into real action• How discernment must guide compassion• Story of the starfish on the beach• How small acts of kindness affect others• Developing the inner disposition for kindness• Is compassion fatigue actually compassion?• The natural reciprocity of compassion • “Compassionomics” by Stephen Trzeciak• Why self-compassion is a struggle• Accepting the human condition• Drepung Loseling Monastery• H.H. The Edinburgh Festival Fringe is once again coming this August. This is the place where over 3,800 individual shows - yes - 3 thousand, 800 of them - will take place during the full month in what is billed as a global arts celebration. Last year the Fringe - as the locals call it - featured 53,942 performances over 301 venues with participants from 68 countries with 2.6 million in ticket sales. How good is that? So good that we are diving in to find out all about it with four of the upcoming performers: Liz Coin, Max Davidson, Brendon Lemon and Kristina Libby. We are talking everything from one-person shows to stand-up comedy to magic and illusionists, what it means to them to take part in this festival, and how the arts bring us all together in the best way possible. Grab your seat, the lights are dimming, as the festival is about to begin... This episode is Part 1 of 3 in a series. _______________________ Sunday July 12 - grab your seat to SLIDESHOW: IN COLOR! now playing in London. Today, when you think of a dollar, the US dollar probably comes to mind first. But that hasn't always been the case. In this episode of The Story of Money, Brendan Greeley, the author of The Almighty Dollar: 500 Years of the World's Most Powerful Money, explains the origins of the world's first dollar, the Joachimstaler, and the hapless Bohemian count who played a role in its creation. Greeley, and hosts Gillian Tett and Robin Wigglesworth discuss the dollar's evolution, and whether it may even outlive the current US dollar system. In this episode of the NCS Podcast Currents series, host Lauren Koffman, DO, MS, speaks with Vanessa Abraham, MS, CCC-SLP, and Jared Rosen, MD, about Vanessa's Story of Hope and the lasting connection they formed during her neurocritical care journey. Vanessa shares how a sudden illness progressed from flu-like symptoms to respiratory failure and paralysis, ultimately requiring mechanical ventilation, an prolonged ICU stay and inpatient rehabilitation. She discusses the uncertainty surrounding her eventual diagnosis of a rare pharyngeal-cervical-brachial variant of Guillain-Barré syndrome, as well as the fear of being unable to communicate, care for her daughter or return to the life she knew before her illness. The conversation also explores the profound impact of compassionate, patient-centered care. Vanessa reflects on how Dr. Rosen, then a medical student completing an ICU rotation, became a reassuring presence for both her and her husband. Together, they discuss the importance of recognizing intubated patients as active participants in their care, providing accessible communication tools and taking time to listen. They also emphasize how small acts of empathy and human connection can reduce anxiety and potentially lessen the long-term effects of post-intensive care syndrome. Join us LIVE AT FIVE (PT) on YouTube for the watch party every Wednesday: https://www.youtube.com/@birdsandbeesdontfck Joy Mamey is an actor, writer, comedian, cancer survivor, and improviser currently performing with Sunday Company at The Groundlings who grew up in Los Angeles where her sex ed teacher wouldn't answer her questions so she thought sex was basically naked kissing and that penises had bones. In this episode we talk about the surprising overlap between improv and intimacy, why "yes and" can become a people-pleasing trap, and what happens when we're taught to ignore our instincts to make other people comfortable. Joy shares the sex education she never got, the question her sex ed teacher refused to answer, and why she genuinely thought penises had bones. “In silent screams and wildest dreams, I never dreamed of this. This love is good. This love is bad. This love is alive back from the dead.” This week we're setting sail on one of history's greatest epics, Homer's The Odyssey, and asking a very important question... did Taylor Swift write it? (We're mostly joking. Mostly.) In this Show & Tell episode, we each make the case for a Taylor Swift song that illuminates a different facet of the Odyssey, from Penelope's 20-year vigil to Odysseus weeping on a gorgeous island, to the sirens, the wine-dark sea, and a very significant scar. Along the way, the hosts dig into questions of translation and interpretation — particularly the significance of Emily Wilson's landmark female translation of the text — discuss the role of Athena in the story of the epic, and geek out about the archery contest that shows up in both the Odyssey and two Indian epics. Plus: the upcoming Christopher Nolan adaptation, the musical Epic by Jorge Rivera, Madeline Miller's Circe, and why All Too Well (10 Minute Version) might just be Taylor's own Odyssey. The weekend headlines lied again. The “peace deal” or “memorandum of understanding” with Iran was always goyslop. Strait of Hormuz “wide open”? Fake. JD Vance and the Trump administration “breaking from Israel”? Even bigger fake. By the end of the weekend the Strait was closed again and the Iranians stormed out of talks in Switzerland after Trump threatened to assassinate their diplomats. The AI surveillance state isn't coming — it's already here, and they're using your tax dollars to build it at hyper speed. Trump came back into office and immediately unleashed Big Tech instead of reining it in. Hope Beryl-Green joins Stew Peters 6/23 to share her story of survival, healing, and advocacy for victims who have suffered in silence.

John shares his testimony, his call to ministry, and the spiritual experiences that led him to write and publish his research. The discussion centers on John's claim that scientific dating, biblical chronology, and historical events reveal repeating patterns of divine control throughout Scripture and world history. He explains how Daniel's 70 weeks, the movement of the Ark of the Covenant, the crossing of the Jordan River, the destruction of Herod's Temple, and Jesus' death and resurrection all point to the reality that God is sovereign over human events.John also shares how he uses this material for evangelism, especially with skeptics, atheists, agnostics, and those searching for evidence that the Bible is true.Topics CoveredJohn Zachary's testimony and call to ministryThe spiritual experiences that led him to write his bookScientific data and biblical prophecyDaniel's 70 weeks and the MessiahThe significance of 14,000-day patterns in biblical chronologyThe Ark of the Covenant, Moses, Joshua, and the crossing of the JordanThe destruction of Solomon's Temple and Herod's TempleEzekiel's Temple visionJesus as the fulfillment of the sacrificial systemWhy the Old Testament sacrifices pointed forward to ChristThe use of biblical research in evangelismIsrael, Jerusalem, and prophetic fulfillmentThe connection between Luke 21, Matthew 24, and end-time prophecyKey TakeawaysJohn Zachary argues that the Bible contains precise chronological markers that reveal God's hand in human history. He highlights a recurring 14,000-day control period that he says appears in multiple biblical and historical events.A central point of the episode is that Jesus' sacrificial death and resurrection fulfilled what the Old Testament sacrificial system only symbolized. John connects this to the destruction of Herod's Temple, explaining that the old system was no longer needed after Christ's finished work. The conversation also emphasizes evangelism. John explains that his research is not meant to create arguments but to present evidence that can awaken people to the truth of Scripture and the reality of eternal life through Jesus Christ.Featured Quote“Human events are under divine control to reveal what is true of the spiritual realm.” — John ZacharyScripture References MentionedDaniel 9Daniel's 70 weeksNumbers 10:11Joshua 4:19Revelation 11Hebrews 10John 14:6Luke 21Matthew 24Mark 13Ezekiel 40:1Guest ResourceLearn more about John Zachary and his book: The Science Behind the Story of JesusWebsite mentioned in the episode: authorjohnzacary.comClosing Call to ActionGet your copy of The Science Behind the Story of Jesus by John Zachary and discover how biblical prophecy, historical events, and scientific dating point to the truth of Jesus Christ.KeywordsJohn Zachary, The Science Behind the Story of Jesus, biblical prophecy, Daniel 70 weeks, Christian apologetics, Bible science, NASA data Bible prophecy, Jesus Christ, biblical chronology, end times prophecy, Kingdom Crossroads, TS Wright, Israel prophecy, Herod's Temple, Ark of the Covenant, biblical history, Christian evangelism
