You can be a person of faith and still have doubts. It may not rob you of your salvation but sometimes life with doubts makes you feel like you live in a swamp. The guest of this episode Alan Bullock explores the subject of doubt and how to get rid of it in his latest book “Doubt”. Alan Bullock is an author, counselor, minister of the Gospel and an executive at Daystar Television Network, but in his youth he was an atheist and a drug addict who was introduced to Jesus by his incarcerated brother-in-law. Since then he's seen God work miraculously many times in his life… from the miracle the healing a blind woman that Alan prayed for, to the way in which he met and married his wife in Communist Soviet Union. And yet, even with miracles happening his life, Alan sometimes still had doubts. In his book he addresses nine different ways in which we doubt God, our circumstances, and ourselves. It's filled with powerful insights about what we can do in the midst of our doubt. He'll share more about the book and his amazing personal testimony on this episode of Limitless Spirit. You can find out more about he and his wife Anoosh's ministry work at their website and pre-order the book at https://www.alanandanooshbullock.com 3:40 – Alan's background included time in the military, drug addiction, and receiving some attention-catching letters from his brother-in-law who was in prison 5:36 – Alan witnesses his brother-in-law's baptism after being released but then overdoses for the third time in his life and almost died… these experiences finally led him to surrender his life to Christ 10:18 – The healing of a teenager with blindness and what Alan believes about miracles 14:24 – The impetus for Alan to write his upcoming book, “Doubt” 19:20 – Alan's theology about doubt, why you're not alone in doubting God, and how to handle doubt 22:37 – How Alan met and married his wife Anoosh 25:00 – More insights from Alan on doubt and the things he addresses in his book 30:48 – “Reach out for Jesus… and your life will change.”After you listen to this episode, go to our host website: www.rfwma.org and find out how World Missions Alliance can help you connect to your greater purpose. If you are interested in becoming a sponsor of the Limitless Spirit Podcast, click below Support the show (https://rfwma.org/give) Email us your questions and comments at podcast@rfwma.org WMA is 501(c)(3), donations are tax deductibleSupport the show (https://rfwma.org/give)Support the show (https://rfwma.org/give)
Today's guest followed LeanFIRE principles before the FIRE (Financial Independence, Retire Early) movement existed. After 20 years of sound investments in real estate, he is now a multimillionaire with 100 rental properties under his belt. Joining me on the podcast today is Alan Corey. Before he got into real estate, he was a comedian who made appearances on multiple reality TV shows. He is also the author of “A Million Bucks by 30” which was published over a decade ago. Have you been grinding it out, "paying your dues" on the job, sacrificing social and family life, hoping that one day it will pay off and you'll finally land the top level, “tentpole” gigs you've been dreaming about your whole career? Or maybe you're just starting your career and you're wondering how much you need to sacrifice in order to achieve your lifelong dream of winning major awards and if it's even worth it? Most importantly, perhaps you're constantly asking yourself: “Is it even possible to work as a successful creative professional and still enjoy spending time with family and friends, taking time off to enjoy vacations, and having time to pursue other interests and goals in life?” I can't think of anyone more qualified to answer these questions than my good friend, mentor, and Hollywood tentpole editor Alan Bell, ACE who has edited such films as The Hunger Games: Catching Fire, Mockingjay (parts 1 &2), The Amazing Spider-Man, and 500 Days of Summer, to name a very select few. In this conversation Alan freely shares his habits and routines and the changes he's made to keep himself healthy and sane during his insanely demanding work schedules. He reveals his honest thoughts on how many hours need to be worked and whether anything can be done to change the demands placed upon editors & creative professionals in the entertainment industry. He also shares some of the perks that come with being at the top and working on big budget films while offering tips that anyone can implement for healthier snacking and higher energy levels throughout your workday. One quick caveat: This interview was originally recorded several years ago back in the “Fitness In Post” days, so you'll hear some references to that program along with some talk about working in offices, (remember that??) clearly pre-pandemic. But the topics of discussion are still relevant issues that we're all confronting today, so for those that missed this interview the first time, I hope it provides as much value now as it did when it was first released. "We've really tried to design this, so it's not just for hard-core coders," says MetaVRse Co-Founder Alan Smithson. He's talking about the MetaVRse 3D content creation engine. Designed by Alan and his wife and company co-founder Julie (who is Chair of XRWomen.com), this web-based platform enables anyone to design interactive 3D experiences. No code is necessary, and the MetaVRse engine has both free and paid accounts available. The MetaVRse engine, meanwhile, is a means to accomplishing the main goal of the Ontario-based company Alan and Julie have created. Also named MetaVRse, the company's mission, as stated on LinkedIn, is to unlock the power of spatial computing for everyone. Users of the MetaVRse engine drag and drop, to create their content. With the engine, Alan and Julie have created a number of virtual applications. Just recently, they introduced their virtual showroom! Shoppers can view a product, virtually, in numerous colors, or even (as in the case of the athletic shoes pictured) customize what they would like to buy. Alan shared the story of MetaVRse, explained several ways users can create content with the platform and offered a look at the ways immersive content will be incorporated into the world of the future. On this edition of Over Coffee®, we cover: How XR first came on Alan's radar; How the pace of innovation is accelerating (and where it's going!); The story of the MetaVRse 3D creation engine; How to create 3D files, without code; A look inside the MetaVRse virtual showroom; A projection of job skills for the future; The ways in which Alan foresees spatial computing evolving; What Alan has enjoyed most about both MetaVRse (the company) and the MetaVRse engine in the last six months; How Alan's talks, including his TEDX talk "The Marriage of Technology and Education", serve as "yardsticks" for the way innovation has accelerated; And, one more resource for keeping up with the future--plus a great book!

Alan Samuel Cohen is an experienced executive and team coach and corporate instructor with over a decade of experience coaching leaders and teams at companies including MetLife American Express, Skadden, Arps, Tiffany's, NBC and countless PR and marketing agencies. He is also a TEDx speaker and has written books on authentic connection in a digital age, and how to manage conflict and difficult conversations in the workplace. Prior to becoming a coach, he worked in PR, marketing and human resources for over 25 years, most notably as the Director of Marketing for Scholastic, where he led the team that was responsible for launching the Harry Potter book series, and as Director of Communications for the Broadway League, where he publicized the Tony Awards. Even as a kid, Alan always wanted to be a publicist. How does a child know about PR work? Growing up in New York City, his father worked as a publicist for ABC television. He was surrounded by all the 8x10 glossies of his TV heroes and all he saw was the glamour of the profession. After college, Alan became a successful publicist, working in TV and eventually in publishing where he worked publicizing the Harry Potter book series. It doesn’t get better than that. As the publishing field changed, Alan made some moves into marketing and communications. Then the financial crisis of 2008 hit. Alan completed his coaching training at the same time and started his coaching business, building upon his insights and experiences as an executive. In this episode we discuss: How Alan currently runs his own business as an executive and team coach, and corporate instructor, coaching leaders and teams at companies like MetLife, American Express, Skadden, Arps, Tiffany’s, NBC, and countless other PR and marketing agencies. Alan ran the publicity team for the Harry Potter books and describes it as a shining moment for him. He delivered his first TEDx talk in October 2019 at the Whitaker Center for Science and the Arts, called “The Magical Power of Shared Purpose.” Alan has authored two books, The Connection Challenge: How Executives Create Power and Possibility in the Age of Distraction and Those Difficult Talks for PR Pros. “Why do you think I'm the best player in the world? Because I never get bored with the basics” –Kobe Bryant- Today on the dHarmic Evolution Podcast we'll be diving into the life-changing and phenomenal strategies of Alan Stein Jr. Alan is a dynamic and engaging storyteller, keynote speaker and author who has spent 15 years as a performance coach working with the top and highest performing basketball players – Including Kevin Durant, Stephen Curry, and Kobe Bryant - Alan specializes in teaching his audience the art of utilizing similar practices in business and life that athletes use to perform at a world-class level. Alan's methods and tactics have proven to be a success in improving individual and organizational leadership, performance and accountability. For this, Alan has gained a positive reputation of inspiring and empowering everyone that he works with into immediate action, improving their mindset, habits, and productivity. Alan is passionate about delivering true change in the spheres of leadership development, mental grit, and team unity, all these while still proving that the foundation and basis behind success in the court has a similar effect when applied in any industry. Alan's career and key decisive moment While still playing basketball at Elon University, Alan gravitated towards performance training, strength, and conditioning. This paved the path to his 2-decade career as a basketball performance coach, where he had the chance of working with some of the top players and coaches of the sport. About a decade ago, while he was still working at the NBA's Player Association top 100 Camp, Alan was emotionally moved and inspired by former NBA Player and renowned speaker Walter Bond's speech to the young high school NBA Prospects. And, ever since that day, a seed was planted in Alan; the ability to positively influence the lives of others, especially through the spoken word. He knew then, that inspiration through speaking was something he would definitely explore. As a professional speaker, two of the things that I draw the most inspiration from, are hip hop and stand-up comedy. Although both are very different from corporate speaking, they both rely on the spoken words to paint a picture, shift your emotions, think, act and do differently. And having the humility to acknowledge that implementing the basics every single day, is definitely not easy” [16:33] “In order for your business to thrive or for you to become good at your craft, you have to work relentlessly on becoming your best self. It might be a little early, but I’m calling it - today’s guest is our favorite by far! Dr. Alan Mead is a podcasting guru and one of the inspirations behind the production of the Dental Slang podcast. Alan has been listening to podcasts since the early 2000s, downloading them to his mp3 player (if anyone remembers those anymore). He’s always been fascinated about people coming together remotely to talk about the things they’re passionate about, and today he’s hosting two podcasts of his own. But his podcasting knowledge isn’t the only reason we invited him onto Dental Slang today. Alan is talking mostly today about the slang he uses when referring to his dental tools. In fact, we all use slang for our tools. Most dental tools have terrifying names, with words like “blade” in them. No patient wants to hear words like that while they’re sitting in your chair! For that reason, we all come up with our own unique, sometimes completely nonsensical, words and phrases to describe the tools we use. Dr. Alan is being completely honest when he says he’s never called a dental tool by it’s real name. In fact, many of us can claim the same. This can cause a lot of problems when we start using the same slang for different tools. For Alan, he’ll call too many of his burs “footballs”, downright confusing his team so they end up bringing him all of the football-shaped burs rather than risk bringing the wrong one by accident. Regardless of these funny little stories, Jodi brings up an excellent point in today’s episode. The slang we use, while sometimes silly, really works at humanizing what it means to be a dentist and sit in a dentist’s chair. Think about it - a lot of our patients are anxious about their dental appointments. It’s a pretty scary, sometimes uncomfortable, place to be. Being able to use slang and other analogies to explain what we’re doing can help patients feel at ease, and can even help them understand the most confusing aspect of dental practice - dental insurance. On today’s episode, the three of us are sharing the different analogies we use with our patients. There’s slang we use to describe our tools, and there’s stories we tell to help patients understand the procedures we’re performing on their mouths. More than that, we use analogies every day to help patients understand the billing process and insurance claims. Anyone practicing in the dental industry today knows the woes of the in-network vs. the out-of-network patient. And sometimes it’s better not to talk about insurance at all. But we can’t avoid that conversation forever. Especially when many of us, like Jodi, are fee-for-service offices. This can often change the dynamic if your patient relationships, and she shares her unique analogies for helping patients understand the charges they’re seeing. Alan and Jodi share their experiences with different insurance slang, and we’re eager to hear your feedback and what slang you’re using to help patients understand your practice. We know that these conversations can be hard to have, and it can help to have a few slang terms and stories to reference when trying to explain something as complicated as dental insurance. So tune in now to hear what dentists like Dr. Alan Mead are telling their patients. In This Episode You Will Learn: What “glamping” really means 1:43 How Alan’s mentorship shaped the production of the Dental Slang Podcast 9:34 All of the jokes you’ve ever heard in a dental office 12:48 Our favorite slang and analogies to use with patients 25:27 The slang we use to help patients understand dental insurance 34:46 Our favorite analogies to use on patients who don’t floss 45:19 Some Questions We Discuss: What does Alan mean when he calls himself a “plain jane” dentist? 4:15 How did Alan create a social life online? 6:35 Why did Alan want to start a second podcast? 8:40 Which slang does Alan use in his dental office? 11:20 Where does the ridiculous slang for dental tools come from? 17:30 Which phrase from Jodi’s slang repertoire is Alan going to steal? 32:11 Resources: Visit our website: www.DentalSlang.com Connect with us on Facebook: Dental Slang Check out Alan’s podcasts: Dental Hacks Podcast and The Alan Mead Dental Experience Get in touch with Dr. Alan Mead at the Dental Hacks Nation Facebook Give it a listen: The Skeptic’s Guide to the Universe Podcast

On today’s episode of Just the Tips, we welcome a top performance coach who has worked with some of the NBA’s biggest stars, including Kevin Durant, Alan Stein, Jr. But right off the bat, we learned one of the most mind-blowing facts about Alan, his middle name: Alan “The Ballbuster” Stein, Jr. Alan is a world-renowned coach, author and speaker. After a career working with NBA players, he now teaches audiences and clients how to utilize the same strategies in business that elite athletes use to perform at a world-class level. Move over Dean “Bearded Wonder” Holland, the Ballbuster is here. The intersection of love and work Alan took a different path than pretty much any other business coach you know. He started playing basketball when he was a kid, and then played in high school and college. Once that was done, he transitioned to coaching, specifically focusing on performance training (running faster, jumping higher). Alan had a great mentor say to him one time: Find out what you love to do, find out what you’re good at, and work at the intersection of those two. And luckily Alan found that with coaching. Respect the process Alan had friends and colleagues in the corporate world, and began talking with them about the concepts of his training and coaching, and how they could apply off the court. And what he realized is that the mindset of the athlete actually has a lot in common with the mindset of the entrepreneur. You have to respect the process, you have to embrace change, having rituals and routines, and never getting bored with the basics. Alan is a top-notch communicator, and the connections he makes here will blow your mind. Have the humility to identify your performance gaps As Alan says even the most advanced athletes and performers have what he calls “performance gaps.” No one is elite at everything. So the first step is to have the humility to see that you have those gaps. Then, he has a three-step process to overcoming those gaps. The first step is to pick one gap, then work on it for 66 days, and the third step is to keep the spotlight on it. He says the number-one reason new years resolutions fail is because they try to change too many habits at one time. You pick the one habit you want to address, and you focus on successfully getting over that. Applying these concepts to organizations Alan is a man of process, and when I asked him about how to apply some of these habit-breaking concepts to larger organizations, he laid out a clear way for a company to foster a culture. The first step is to identify your core values, your north star, what the whole company is working towards. Once you have that, you set standards and processes that move your company toward the goal. Then you create accountability to ensure that all of those standards are upheld. Easier said than done, but Alan is a convincing guy. If you’re looking to establish some better habits, you have to listen to this week’s episode of Just the TIps. Elise’s guest today is Alan Day -- author, owner and operator of the first sanctuary for wild Mustangs, and Justice Sandra Day O'Connor's brother. As a third-generation cattleman and rancher, Alan’s upbringing branded him a cowboy from the day he was born. Growing up on his family’s historic 200,000-acre Lazy B Ranch cemented his love for the land and for horses. And his love for books and a story well-told led him to become the best-selling author that he is today. Ranching and the cowboy life is — as he says — in his blood. So, after graduating from the University of Arizona, he returned to manage the Lazy B for the next 40 years, along with his two other massive ranches (in Nebraska and South Dakota). Alan embodies all that is good about the American West's cowboy code — putting in a hard day’s work, not quitting until the job is done, never complaining about the hand you were dealt, being good for your word, being a good steward of the land, and putting your horses’ needs and well-being before your own. He also embodies the cowboy tradition for telling great stories, from hanging out for a couple days with Kevin Costner (not a movie-goer, Alan had no idea who the actor was, but thought he was "a nice fella"), to literally being hung from a hook on the front porch of his family's bunkhouse by a World War II vet who'd had enough of his five-year-old pestering... Alan shares a fascinating world of experiences. You’ll love listening in to hear Alan reminisce on his days of growing up on and managing the historic Lazy B, founded in 1880, including his grandfather's narrow escape from Apache, as well as Alan's years managing 1,500 wild mustangs — and how he poured his heart into caring for them and the land in his keeping Topics of Discussion: [1:37] Alan recalls the days of growing up on his family’s ranch and some of the lessons he learned. [6:03] A story about his first cattle drive when he was five years old. [14:06] A story about Alan’s grandfather, who settled the ranch in 1880. [16:17] Commenter shout-outs! (Reading commenter’s comments!) [18:22] What the history and heritage of Alan’s family’s ranch mean to him. [19:53] A working ranch in the truest sense; only a family’s hard work to take care of the ranch. [24:24] Alan’s ingenuity on the ranch. [28:45] How Alan views his legacy. [31:25] What it means to be a cowboy and an important lesson for those who manage land. [34:22] About Alan’s book and how his co-author helped present his stories. [36:00] The process of creating Mustang Meadow Ranch and the motivation that led him to it. [38:19] An excerpt from Alan’s book about the creation of Mustang Meadow Ranch from The Horse Lover. [39:58] What Alan learned from the people who handle rounded-up mustangs right off the range (the BLM). [42:23] How Alan applied what he learned from herding cattle to the group of wild mustangs he was working with. [46:10] The critical lesson in learning how to manage the wild mustangs; making friends and moving them without panic. [48:00] What makes a mustang unsuitable for adoption? [50:31] What Alan wishes the average American understood about the current situation with mustangs throughout the West. [55:50] Pieces of advice from Cowboy Up! and some of the stories behind them. This episode of Boardroom Hustle covers a wide variety of different topics. My guest, Alan Jones, and I get into things like EQ, IP and everything in-between. Alan is an entrepreneur, investor, board director and startup mentor, and he sheds some light on the life-changing moments he’s experienced throughout his journey: the relationships between startup founders, investors and the boardroom. He also talks about the big changes he’s trying to encourage and bring about in the world. Throughout Alan’s career, he’s been lucky to realise the importance of stopping and smelling the roses. Today, we discuss how he came to that realisation, as well as: Why serenity is such an important part of Alan’s day The Darwinian approach that many industries take towards business, and how this can be of detriment to those industries How Alan came to value taking time out from the daily grind and learned to relax The various flaws within his industry, and who is the most likely to come up against discrimination How Alan came to be known as the Chief Hindsight Officer Why EQ is such a vital aspect of business, especially in the boardroom How to get that ‘spark’ back into your boardroom Why we tend to have shallow interactions rather than deep and meaningful ones, and how to start digging deeper with your directors The best way to take minutes for your meetings to ensure you get the most out of your time The one common theme that can be found in every single boardroom Negative outcomes that come from living a hard, fast lifestyle, and how you can avoid falling prey to them What it means to be a whole person, and how you can aim to become one Can a younger director find that balance between work and life, or is that something that comes with time? In creative industries like film & television post-production, it's extremely common to see job listings for free or low paid work, but how do you know if it's worth it or if you should run for the hills? After all, would you ask for services for free in other industries? » Click here to download your 'Should I Take Free Work?' Assessment Tool Just imagine walking into an upscale restaurant and saying, “I’d love to try out the most popular item on your menu, and while I won’t pay for it this time, if I love it there’s a high likelihood I’ll have business for you in the future.” Um, that would be a big giant NO. So why is it okay for people to exploit creative talent and imagination in exactly this way? In this archival episode from my ‘Fitness In Post’ days, Alan Bell and I discussed how to distinguish between whether or not a low or no paying job is worth the gamble for the bigger picture of advancing your career. We evaluate the many reasons that a specific job opportunity may be worth it based on the potential long-term payoffs, and we also talk about when it is absolutely unacceptable under any circumstances to take on a job that is clearly looking to exploit your talents and experience (not that anyone would ever be interested in exploiting your creative talents). When I originally released this episode I also created a bonus document to accompany it that was an assessment questionnaire to help you break down step-by-step whether a specific job opportunity is worth it or not. Since releasing this I have received lots of great feedback from listeners who have said it helped them make the right decision with peace of mind about whether or not a potential job would make sense for their career. Our guest for this week’s show is Real estate expert, Alan Pollack. Alan brings a broad range of investment experience to the table and brings a ton of knowledge to our discussion today. Probably one of the most impressive things about Alan and his business is the way that he’s been able to quickly change gears and re-adapt to the ever changing real estate investing landscape. Being able to master this skill of re-adaption is by far one of the most important traits of any successful real estate investor…especially if you plan on making this a lifelong career. Why Alan decided to transition into wholesaling and flipping single family homes at this point in the real estate cycle and how he targets what he refers to as “situation value-add” How they have been doing more deals by going after listed properties vs. off-market deals which they were finding through means of direct mail campaigns. The lesson he learned during the downturn of 2006 on a loan that was held by GE capital which was called due before he was able to stabilize it. Why it doesn’t always pay to be cheap when doing renovations on a property and how using top grade materials can push your profits to another level in the right markets. How partnering with a more experienced investor can save you money on your loan and funding costs.
