Season 4, Episode 61: Interview with Eileen Weisinger (Warrior Woman) from John Carpenter's “Ghosts of Mars” (2001) Such an incredible actress with a great outlook on life! I love how she shared her story about being a stunt woman; after all the movies she has been in, she has quite the impressive career. Essentially this movie is Assault on Precinct 13, add a helping of The Thing, and throw in a pinch of Escape from New York,  three of John Carpenter's best-loved films. She was also a stunt performer in a plethora of notable movies: I Am Number Four, Iron Man 2, Tekken, The Texas Chainsaw Massacre: The Beginning, Star Trek: Nemesis, Not Another Teen Movie, Swordfish, Dracula 2000 and Mimic 2 – just to name a few. But had character roles in the first Iron Man in 2008, The Babysitter, and many more.

Today's episode packs a numerical punch as we explore the theme of the number four, diving into the top five instances where the number '4' plays a key role in film and entertainment. We'll then saddle up for a ride with the 2016 remake of "The Magnificent Seven" before settling down for a quieter exploration with "The Sound Collector."Top Five '4's in Entertainment:"Fantastic Four" (2005, 2015) - Marvel's first family of superheroes, known for their four distinct powers that complement each other, making them a formidable team against evil."Four Weddings and a Funeral" (1994) - This British romantic comedy cleverly uses the number four in its plot structure, revolving around the social gatherings that bring the characters closer."I Am Number Four" (2011) - A sci-fi film about a group of alien teenagers on Earth, with the protagonist known as Number Four, who must evade assassins sent to kill him before he comes of age."The Four Feathers" (2002) - A historical drama about bravery and cowardice, featuring a protagonist who receives four white feathers symbolizing his perceived cowardice from his friends and loved one."The Sign of Four" (1987) - A Sherlock Holmes film based on Sir Arthur Conan Doyle's novel, where the plot revolves around the mystery connected to the number four.Main Feature - The Magnificent Seven (2016):In this modern remake of the classic Western, director Antoine Fuqua reimagines the story with a diverse, star-studded cast including Denzel Washington, Chris Pratt, and Ethan Hawke. The film follows seven gunslingers who come together to protect a poor village from savage thieves. While the film pays homage to the original, it also infuses new energy and interpretation into the tale, exploring themes of justice, courage, and sacrifice. The Sound Collector:Switching gears to a much different tempo, "The Sound Collector" (a fictional title for the sake of discussion) might be a documentary or a feature film exploring the world of sounds. This could involve a protagonist traveling the world to capture unique sounds from nature, cities, and people, using these sounds to tell stories or even solve mysteries. The film would highlight the importance of listening and the role of sound in shaping our environment and experiences.Whether you're intrigued by the action and camaraderie of "The Magnificent Seven," fascinated by the auditory journey in "The Sound Collector," or just enjoying our numerical narrative with the top five '4's in entertainment, today's episode promises a blend of action, thoughtfulness, and a bit of numerical fun. So tune in and join us as we explore these captivating themes.

Welcome to the Left of Str8 Podcasts: This is our “Left of Str8 Show” Interview Series, where we tell the stories of our amazing LGBTQ Community and fantastic Straight Ally's. It's Day Two for our Premiere Week of Season 7. Today is a Salute to the Movies with two brand new releases coming out. I have been a fan of Guy Pearce since “Priscilla Queen of the Desert,” and I jumped at the opportunity to speak with the Director of the new psychological horror film, “Sunrise,” Andrew Baird. I was also able to talk to two of the films stars, Alex Pettyfer, who I have loved since his movie, “I Am Number Four,” and Kurt Yeager, who has been on some of my favorite television series. (unfortunately Guy was unavailable, but I'll get you my pretty sometime soon.) Summary In this conversation, I talk with the Director and two Actors from the new film, “Sunrise.” It's a psychological horror take on the Vampyre mythology. Set in the Pacific Northwest but filmed in Northern Ireland, the landscapes and cinematography are out of this world. Director Andrew Baird has done world building with his Sci Fi Fantasy film “Zone 414,” and done intense character development with actor turned singer, turned actor again, Machine Gun Kelly. Andrew is a master storyteller and knows how to control a set. Alex Pettyfer was not going to make any typical Vampire movie, he wanted to bring the deep brooding characterizations and even cut most of his lines written for the part. Kurt Yeager takes the films theme of fear to heart, playing the town sheriff that is caught between opposing forces. You are going to enjoy this movie opening in theatres on January 19 and available to stream as well.

With her innate ability to tap into the dark side partnered with her empathic nature, it's no surprise that she's able to perform and connect to both her character and the audience. She shares how she embraces curiosity as a driving force and how this allows her to explore different emotions, and the importance of balance between her personal life and maintaining a healthy separation from the characters she plays. She also delves into generational differences and why she's a fan of Gen Zs despite the bad rap they get. Apart from acting, she unveils her love for painting which she considers as a meditative practice that keeps her aligned. Despite the chaos the industry brings sometimes, curiosity has been a driving force for Sophia, and this curiosity is what keeps her going.  Sophia Anne Caruso is a talented actress with tv and film credits such as the Netflix hit feature, “The School for Good and Evil”, "37", "Jack of the Red Hearts", "I Am Number Four", CBS' “Evil”, and the NBC's hit series “Smash” among others. “Wednesday, for us, from concept until now, has been a three and a half year journey,” said Alfred Gough. “We came up with the initial idea which was teenage Wednesday Addams in boarding school. We had to track down the rights and then we pitched it to the Addams Foundation.” As screenwriters, Alfred Gough and Miles Millar are known for Shanghai Noon, Smallville, I Am Number Four, Spider-Man 2 (2004), and Into the Badlands. Their latest creation is perhaps most similar to the creation of Smallville, the Superman origin series. Listen to our conversation about Into the Badlands in Episode 52. Miles Millar said, “Tonally, this is in the pocket of Smallville. Often times, the studio comes to you, but this time, it was our idea. We put together a 15-page series treatment with photographs, descriptions, log lines for episodes, and that led to a meeting. We had to do the legwork, write the spec treatment, but we felt passionate about the project and fell in love with the idea of doing this.” “From there, we wrote the first episode, that's when the pandemic hit. We sent the pilot script to Tim Burton's agent, even though his agent said he's never been interested in television,” he continued, “but the agent liked it and sent it to Tim. Four days later, we got a call, he loved it and wanted to meet.” Tim Burton told Alfred Gough and Miles Millar that he “loved the script” and “would have dated Wednesday Addams in high school.” They shot the series in Romania about a year later. This is it, Matt and Ryan make it official, Movies are the next big thing! It may take a while for this brave new medium to find its footing, so this week we do our best to support upstarts like Tangerine, Brawl in Cell Block 99, the Mens in Black, The Last Jedi and/or Samurai, Guardians of the Galaxy 2, Iron Man 3, Thor Ragnarok, The Man Who Knew Too Little, If Looks Could Kill, Zathura, I Am Number Four, Race to Witch Mountain, Deja Vu, Next, Source Code, Clear and Present Danger, Fearless, Cast Away, and What Lies Beneath. And if that seems like too much then you're in luck, we'll regularly be tackling just one movie a week starting with Jackie Chan's latest The Foreigner. So watch the film, join the discussion, and maybe together we can finally get the word out: movies are pretty good!

There are a lot of Young Adult book series, many of which don't translate well into movies, but that doesn't stop Hollywood from desperately trying for the next Twilight. We examine a couple of the failed attempts with The 5th Wave and I Am Number Four. And Toni may have managed to make it through the second episode in a row without getting any obvious facts wrong, what a treat!

Before they go on hiatus for Pretty Little Liars season, Marco and Benji are back one more time to talk about a failed franchise starter: I Am Number Four. They joke about the neutron star of suck in the center of the film, how it doesn’t seem to know its target audience, how great Timothy Olyphant is in a useless role, etc. This is the kind of movie you get when bad intentions go awry.

Site: http://www.audiobooks.com/podcast  | Email: podcast@audiobooks.com Welcome back to the Audiobooks.com podcast! This episode of the podcast was released on September 1, 2015 and, as such, we take a look at the season, the challenges and excitements of the upcoming months, and what we look forward to most! (Pumpkin latte, anyone? Not yet? Ok.)  Once again, Addy and Brian chose to review very complementary audiobooks in the business and personal development genre. Addy reviews Do the Work by Steven Pressfield, while Brian reviews Purple Cow by Seth Godin. News Girl on the Train is being made into a movie! (Note: this is not the 2013 thriller starring Henry Ian Cusick.) The psychological thriller published in January by author Paula Hawkins was optioned by DreamWorks and is already getting some buzz over the casting of the characters. One major change already rumored in the course of the book's adaptation is that the film will likely take place in upstate New York, as opposed to the English backdrop of the story. As this change does not seem to cause the author to lose sleep, it shall be interesting to see what The Help's Tate Taylor will do with the film. The audiobook for Girl on the Train is narrated by Clare Corbett and Louise Brealey and is 11 hours long. The penultimate book in the Lorien Legacies series, The Fate of Ten, is scheduled for release September 1, 2015. The first book of the series, I Am Number Four, was released back in 2010 and subsequently had a film adapted in its honor, starring Alex Pettyfer and Timothy Olyphant. Neither the box office numbers nor the critical response of the film were anything to get excited over and the sequel was shelved. The six books thus far in the Lorien Legacies series have one narrator in common, Neil Kaplan, but use an array of narrators for different voices. Each book hovers around the 10 hour mark. Audiobook Reviews Often called a manifesto, Steven Pressfield's Do The Work is an action guide that helps readers address points of resistance along the road to the completion of a project. Interestingly, the foreword is written by the author of the book that Brian listened to, Seth Godin, and in it he writes: "It will help you understand why you're stuck; it will kick you in the pants, and it will get you moving." The book was originally published in April of 2011 is a follow up to Pressfield's 2002 non-fiction book The War of Art (not to be confused with The Art of War by Sun Tzu, which Brian reviewed last week). Both books address the enemy of creativity and how to empower oneself to rise above the fear often accompanied by participating in a world where criticism and roadblocks abound. Whether you're a creative type or an entrepreneur, this book can bring you step by step through the process of overcoming that fear and resistance in order to produce your desired result. And Pressfield does it all in 1 hour and 26 minutes! Purple Cow: Transform Your Business by Being Remarkable by Seth Godin follows a very similar vein, but is pleasantly complementary to Do The Work. The 2003 book is 3 hours in length and, like Do the Work, is also narrated by its author.  The phrase purple cow comes from a 1895 poem by Gelett Burgess: I never saw a Purple Cow, I never hope to see one; But I can tell you, anyhow, I'd rather see than be one. The short, quippy poem became popular very quickly and Burgess actually came to regret writing it. He wrote a follow up poem in 1897, the last line of which reads: "I'll Kill you if you Quote it!" Most authors would kill for that kind of popularity, not kill because of the popularity. Despite the author's backtracking, the poem has a unique nuance in modern culture. It can be read as embracing the idea of sticking to the status quo because sticking out is harder than fitting in, but Godin takes a different approach. Godin embraces the heart of this poem by pointing out that, as a society, we are saturated in choices that have few differences. The status quo, the traditional marketing techniques, no longer cut it in our fast-paced, mostly-online culture, and this idea of putting a purple cow into everything you do embraces the idea of being different. In one interview, Godin says: "Purple Cow is about the inexorable decline in the effectiveness of advertising and what to do about it." It's not effective to be status quo; don't see the purple cow, be the purple cow! Start with Pressfield's book, learn to overcome the fears that hold you back from achieving your dreams, then read Godin's book to discover how being the purple cow of your industry will produce the type of results you're looking for! Then report back and tell us how you did! Show us some love! Host Robin Milling flashes back to 1999 with Timothy Olyphant for his interview as a drug dealing lothario for Go.  Timothy shares his bad boy behavior off the screen with Milling. “We grew up in Modesto, Ca where there's not much to do so we did these stupid, rebellious dangerous things because what else is there to do other than go paint somebody's house overnight or make a fake bomb and wrap it up in a Christmas gift around the holidays. We used to do stupid dumb things like that. You'd take some flairs and an alarm clock and some electrical tape and some clay and wires and just mish mash that up and you gift wrap it and put it out on the side of the road. That right there is hours of fun. We'd go to the golf course and drink and get ice blocks at the local 7-11 and you'd destroy the golf course sliding down the hills on the ice blocks. It's not like I was packing heat walking around high school but we did the usual stupid stuff.” The film paved the way for a successful diversified career for Olyphant, who can be seen as the sexy law enforcer Raylan Givens on the FX series Justified.  You might also remember him from the HBO series Deadwood, as well as a stint on Damages. The Hawaiian born actor currently stars in the DVD releases Elektra Luxx and I Am Number Four.
