Trump opens up Camp David for a cabinet meeting, a first in modern presidential history, and RFK Jr. gets a genuinely moving moment reminiscing about his uncle's visits there six decades ago. From there it's a full lap around the administration's wins: record stock market highs, Trump savings accounts topping 7 million sign ups, prescription drug prices dropping through the favored nation policy, and a fraud task force update with some seriously big dollar figures. JD Vance breaks down the International Criminal Court pushback, Marco Rubio covers Middle East diplomacy and hurricane relief in Venezuela, Pete Hegseth talks military rebuilding, and Scott Bessent runs through the economic numbers. The Q&A afterward wanders into Iran's dwindling military, Ukraine's Patriot missile request, a Minnesota cyber attack blame game, and a lingering controversy over a canceled compensation fund. It's a packed, wide ranging cabinet session with plenty of personality.

Vice President JD Vance is widely perceived as the most likely candidate to be America's 48th President, followed closely by the excellent Marco Rubio.  And certainly Vance presents many personal and professional qualities one would seek in a President of the United States, not least his patent love of nation. The elephant in the room, of course, is that JD Vance is married to a woman, Usha, who although born in America is in many ways culturally Indian, including in her religious dietary practices. This at a time in American history when we seem awash in tens of millions of Indian migrants who appear utterly resistant and disinterested in assimilating into our American culture, instead establishing their own ethnic enclaves, arguably engaging in predatory take-over of many American industries that were traditionally paths of upward mobility for American citizens, and to a large extent making America less America and more Indian—which would seem to be in neither the interests of America nor India. This has led some prominent voices on the American political right, perhaps more accurately termed the nationalist right, meaning prioritizing the interests of the American nation over other interests, to proclaim that if JD Vance is the candidate they will decline to cast a vote in the 2028 Presidential elections on the grounds that they are not interested in voting for an American president with an “Indian” spouse. That American culture is facing an existential threat at the hands of massive third-world invasion of our country seems incontestable, and the nation's cultural survival rather obviously depends on, well, it's cultural survival—keeping America American. Does this concern warrant playing absent from casting a vote in the 2028 Presidential election?I suggest not—and for much the same reasons I was opposed to this same take when it came to voting for Donald Trump for President in 2016.Join me LIVE at 9 AM ET as I break it all down!Clarence Thomas x 9: Perfect SCOTUS Mugs! https://tinyurl.com/k778wj2kFor complete Medicare guidance, dial (617) 644-0093 to speak with my trusted partner, Chapter. All @TheBrancaShow mugs & MORE! https://tinyurl.com/k778wj2kJOIN OUR COMMUNITY! Mary and Andrew begin this week by addressing the Department of Justice dropping the subpoenas they ordered against New York Times journalists who reported on security concerns regarding President Trump's new Qatari-government-gifted Air Force One jet, noting that the attempt to subpoena the writers speaks to a failed effort of “chilling and intimidating” other reporters. But still, there were even more subpoenas: last week, the DOJ filed subpoenas for 14 major law firms as part of an ongoing lawsuit between the American Bar Association (ABA) and the Executive Office of the President, which Mary and Andrew believe is an effort by the government to try and “get the law firms to pressure the ABA to drop this lawsuit.” They also touch on an update to journalist Katie Phang's lawsuit against the federal government over Epstein files redactions and address Jack Smith's criminal referral by House Judiciary Committee Chair Jim Jordan. Plus, two immigration-related cases: a judge's decision to throw out a DOJ lawsuit challenging Minnesota immigration laws and an appeal court's decision to reverse a lower court decision releasing Pro-Palestinian activist Mohsen Mahdawi. Chris Christie Picked the Worst Possible Day to Say Trump Is Losing — Iran Was Already Begging to Talk

American Ground Radio

Play Episode Listen Later Jul 28, 2026 41:51 Transcription Available

You’re listening to American Ground Radio with Stephen Parr and Louis R. Avallone. This is the full show for July 27, 2026. We open with Chris Christie's Sunday morning declaration that the Trump show is over, that Iran has learned the president's threats are just bluster, and that there are no signs the United States is winning. We explain why this is not just wrong — it is reckless. Wars are not won or lost on Sunday talk show segments. But enemies listen. They translate every word. They study our divisions and exploit them. Christie chose to go on national television and tell Tehran to hold on just a little longer on the exact weekend that Iran was sending desperate messages through dozens of third countries begging to restart negotiations — after 13 consecutive days of U.S. bombing had decimated their defense industrial base, their launchers, their radars, and their economy. When critics tell the enemy that America's resolve is crumbling, they are shaping the battlefield in a way that benefits the adversary. That is not speaking truth to power. That is threatening the men and women in uniform. In our Top 3 Things You Need to Know, President Trump attended the White House Correspondents Dinner and delivered a speech roasting CNN's Kaitlin Collins, RFK Jr., Ted Cruz, Gavin Newsom, Rosie O'Donnell, Bruce Springsteen, Chris Christie, J.B. Pritzker, and others — with the jokes about the media landing to dead silence and the Trump 2028 trolling getting the biggest reaction of the night. Then the Maine Democratic Party officially replaced Graham Plattner — who was elected by actual voters — with Troy Jackson, a party insider selected by party leaders, because Plattner's sex scandals made him unelectable. It is Kamala Harris 2024 all over again, except instead of Sleepy Joe, they had Sleazy Graham. And an ISIS-linked attacker drove a van into a crowd at a Berlin Pride parade before exiting with a machete — killing one person and injuring 29 others before being tracked down and shot by police in a Berlin suburb. We also cover Mayor Mamdani's announcement that New Yorkers should protest when Benjamin Netanyahu visits New York for the UN General Assembly — framing Netanyahu as a war criminal and architect of genocide based on an International Criminal Court warrant the United States does not recognize. We point out that the last protest near Mamdani's home was accompanied by two Muslims attempting to kill everyone in the area with homemade bombs. We also note that foreign policy is not run from city hall in Manhattan, that the Constitution is explicit about this, and that encouraging massive protests based on blood libel lies is not just constitutionally illiterate — it is dangerous. Our American Mamas Teri Netterville and Kimberly Burleson report from a campfire conversation in Wyoming — where Teri's Danish-American friend, a naturalized citizen who cannot stand Trump, was asked who she would want as the next president. Her answer: not Gavin Newsom, not AOC. Marco Rubio — because he's presidential, articulate, and could actually bring people together. Terry says that's the first moment she could picture Rubio as president. We explore the historic possibility of a Trump-Vance-Rubio sequential presidency — comparing it to Jefferson, Madison, and Monroe — and what three consecutive terms of the same political coalition would mean for the Democratic Party's long-term survival. We dig deep into the financial collapse of the Democratic National Committee — reported not by Breitbart but by the New York Times and the Huffington Post. The DNC chair reportedly threw his phone at a staffer during a meeting over the party's finances. The DNC has asked vendors to delay sending bills until after the midterms so the debt doesn't appear on the balance sheet. The party is $2 million in the hole — $18 million in debt against $16 million on hand — and has already mortgaged its national headquarters to secure a $15 million line of credit. The RNC, by contrast, has $128 million cash on hand and zero debt. President Trump's personal war chest adds another $400 million. The Democrats have no message, the message they do have isn't resonating, and the money is not coming in. We also cover Senator John Kennedy's response on CBS to questions about the SAVE Act — where he calmly explained to Margaret Brennan that election integrity requires exactly two things: prove you are who you say you are to register and vote, and get back to knowing the results on election night instead of election month. We call it exactly what it is — a bright spot. And we note that 70-80% of Americans agree with Kennedy, depending on the poll. The only people who don't are Democrat politicians afraid of their own radical base. We also cover Hakeem Jeffries telling CNN that 6,600 non-citizens being registered to vote in New Jersey — with hundreds confirmed to have voted — is not a problem, and is actually an example of Republican voter suppression. We say what needs to be said: yes, Hakeem. We are trying to suppress illegal votes. That is exactly what the SAVE Act does. If the Democrat Party needs illegal votes to win, the Democrat Party should not win. And we close with 11-year-old Nehemiah Turner of Jacksonville, Florida — who started reading books to shelter dogs at the Jacksonville Humane Society, logged 100 volunteer hours becoming the first person in the program to reach that milestone, became a straight-A student in the process, and has now set his sights on 200 hours. The dogs get comfort. Nehemiah gets better at reading. Everybody wins. May your pursuit of happiness bring you joy. The Secretary of State went on television and refused to rule out striking civilian targets. "A head for an eye," Marco Rubio said — boasting about sending a country back to the Stone Age. At the same time, the Pentagon has cancelled press briefings, killed reporter embeds with combat units, and gone dark on casualty numbers. Paul Rieckhoff joins Katy Tur on MS Now to lay out what that combination actually means: an administration waging war without the accountability the Constitution demands, and military families left in the dark about whether their people are coming home. Paul draws on his own time as an infantry rifle platoon leader in Iraq to explain why the laws of war exist in the first place — they protect our troops when they're captured, they hold the line against retaliation on our allies, and they're the difference between a professional military and a political weapon. We opened the phone lines and let regular listeners say what they really want done with Iran — no filters, no focus groups, just straight talk from people who are sick of the endless cycles of threats, deals, and excuses. These callers aren't sitting in think tanks or cable news green rooms. They're the folks who actually live with the consequences of weak foreign policy, higher gas prices, and the constant risk that a regime that chants “Death to America” keeps getting more time and more leverage. The conversation went exactly where you'd expect when you stop listening to the same recycled experts and start listening to the audience: clear-eyed assessments of the threat, frustration with decades of mixed signals, and a lot of commonsense ideas about strength, deterrence, and not repeating the same mistakes. If you've been wondering what real Americans outside the Beltway are thinking about Iran right now, this is the unfiltered version. Pat also covered: Is Sophie Cunningham actually the future of the WNBA? Day 41: Where is Mitch McConnell? White House puts the squeeze on John Thune to pass the SAVE Act Marco Rubio breaks down the International Criminal Court Ted Cruz just made a prediction that should make you nervous Do you think the people running foreign policy are finally listening, or are they still stuck in the same old playbook? What's your bottom-line solution for dealing with Iran — and why do you think Washington keeps missing it? Brad Onishi and Dan Miller explore the American right's furious reaction to Christopher Nolan's The Odyssey and what the controversy reveals about race, representation, gender, sexuality, and the politics of “Western civilization.” From outrage over Black actors and queer representation in contemporary adaptations to the right's insistence that certain stories, traditions, and cultural identities belong exclusively to white people, the conversation examines why the boundaries of “the West” are constantly being defended—and who gets pushed outside them. The discussion then turns to the rise of civilizational populism and its growing influence on the American right. Brad and Dan unpack how appeals to “Western Christian civilization” are being used to unite Christian nationalists, technocrats, billionaires, and authoritarian political actors around a shared vision of cultural hierarchy and social order. They connect the backlash over The Odyssey to Marco Rubio's foreign policy, the politics of Venezuela, the disputed results of a national civics competition, and the broader question of who gets to represent the future of America. Another active news week brought stories you need to be aware of and to understand from a Christian perspective. Here are some highlights from the first quarter hour: --U.S. CENTCOM announced yesterday that forces struck Iranian targets for the 13th straight night as Israel braces for a counter attack from Iran. --On Thursday, President Trump said Iranian money controlled by the U.S. will be used to pay for ships damaged as a result of the war in the Middle East. --The Senate rejected a resolution calling for the U.S. to cease military action in Iran, just hours after the House passed a similar measure amid renewed hostilities following the collapse of the cease-fire. --Marco Rubio laid down "Trump's Law" when asked about Iran. Jim provided audio of his comments. --Nearly 3 years after the October 7, 2023, massacre, Hamas has calmly elected a new head of its political bureau. This demonstrates that the terror group remains sufficiently organized to manage internal, political affairs, while continuing to rule much of the Gaza Strip and dictate the lives of more than 2 million Palestinians. --The Israeli military confirmed that it's constructing a physical barrier along the so-called "yellow line" in Gaza. --Israel has set an election date, October 27th, for the Netanyahu government to complete its full term. --Danny Danon, Israel's ambassador to the U.N., commented on the mayor of New York City, Zohran Mamdami, who had said he would arrest Israeli Prime Minister, Benjamin Netanyahu, when he comes to address the U.N. General Assembly.

On today's episode, we discuss a “non-conspiracy” Friday without Charlotte, mixing playful inside jokes like the day's motto “wooly bully” with sharp political and legal commentary. The hosts start with stories about strongly worded letters—one that got James blacklisted by Louisiana Tech years ago and a new one aimed at a big New Orleans law firm—using them to reflect on how their approach to conflict has evolved. They then shift to their running “presidential apprentice” theme, comparing contenders like Ron DeSantis, Marco Rubio, and J.D. Vance, and spotlighting Rubio's recent media performances and Vance's troubles with a talkative security detail. A substantial part of the discussion digs into military law and free speech, analyzing whether a soldier who posted an expletive-laden anti-Trump video on his last day in uniform could face consequences under Article 88 of the UCMJ and how Article 15 proceedings work in practice. The episode rounds out with updates on a scrubbed rocket launch, speculation about Obama's post-presidency moves, and concerns over voter roll irregularities in states like New Jersey and Minnesota, blending conspiracy-flavored questions with skepticism and fact-checking from AI tools like Grok. In this Wednesday Q&A episode of The Wright Report, Bryan breaks down Secretary Rubio's explosive new report tracing six decades of Cuban, Soviet, and Chinese subversion behind the Communist takeover of the Democrat Party. Bryan answers listener questions on the state of immigration enforcement under Trump, a new Colorado congresswoman's push to replace American leadership with immigrants, and why he believes veteran Democrats like Van Jones are too late to reclaim their party from its socialist wing. He also tackles listener questions on Iran, explaining why the IRGC is so hard to defeat and what the CIA really knows about the regime's nuclear ambitions. Plus, Bryan covers President Trump's puzzling reversal on China's election interference, a New Jersey "glitch" that registered thousands of noncitizens to vote, and a deep dive into the Bolshevik Revolution as a cautionary parallel for where America's Communist movement could be headed. Marco Rubio just laid out the framework for the elimination of Hezbollah. If this plan is successful, Lebanon, Israel and the entire Middle East will experience a massive shift towards peace and stability. But in what seems like a contradiction, President Trump said that he is willing to meet with Hezbollah directly.    This announcement comes on the heels of media accusations that Israel is building a barrier wall separating what is left of Hamas controlled Gaza from the area that the IDF currently holds. The timing is interesting on this as 10,000 Israelis just marched towards IDF positions demanding the Israeli government rebuild Jewish settlements in Gaza.    Are we about to see peace in Lebanon and the Israeli reclamation of Gaza? Glenn also reviews the shocking news that's coming out of Cuba, which Secretary of State Marco Rubio accused of being the "ideological capital" of left-wing extremism that's infecting America. The Tate brothers have been arrested in Miami after British authorities issued dozens of new charges against them, including rape and sex trafficking charges. The Democratic Socialists of America released a new program, and it's a radical experiment to change America fundamentally. But has it been done before? Glenn reveals that this idea isn't new and has already been tried and failed. Glenn responds to a subscriber's admission of hopelessness and gives his advice to fight that feeling by highlighting the power of the individual. A former soldier just set off an incendiary device and fired an airsoft rifle right outside 26 Federal Plaza — the building that houses ICE and immigration courts. This wasn't random. Andrew Arrabaca, a 43-year-old Army veteran and National Guardsman, showed up armed with axes, a machete, knives, fireworks, and a cart reading “ICE off our streets.” He poured flammable liquid, lit the blaze, fired pellets at the building, and told investigators he didn't care if he killed people. The FBI's Joint Terrorism Task Force is investigating it as a potential terror attack. Four people were hurt. Security tackled him. This is where anti-ICE extremism leads when it moves beyond protests. Americans who've watched open borders, sanctuary cities, and nonstop attacks on ICE have seen this radicalization coming — and now it's here. Somehow, Trump 1.0 Returned... The Ever-Shifting Midterm Winds (with Michael Cohen)

To date, Trump 2.0 has been defined by everybody appearing to be on the same page and by a sense that the administration kept moving its priorities forward. You might not have liked what those priorities were, but the priorities did get done. The one big beautiful bill was described as an administration's worth of priorities getting done too soon, and it seems like that might have been prophetic. Trump 1.0 returns when internal fights spill into public view, aides leak against one another, major spectacles vanish with nothing much changing, and the president treats factional drama as fuel rather than a problem to solve.Go back to the beginning of 2025, when Trump 2.0 very much was aligned. The coalition was locked in. The administration had momentum. USAID dismantled in a split second. The one big beautiful bill pushed over the finish line in record time. Again, the point isn't that these were good things that happened. It's that they kept happening. But no momentum is made to last forever. Maybe the coalition was always doomed to splinter. The cracks began to show as people were fired, as Kristi Noem and Pam Bondi went down for various different ICE shootings and Epstein, accelerating distrust and leaving Dan Bongino back on the radio airwaves. Either way, the drama that Trump 2.0 kept outside the tent has now fully moved back within it.How do we know? Because they're telling us.Politics Politics Politics is a reader-supported publication. To receive new posts and support my work, consider becoming a free or paid subscriber.Take the address that happened last Thursday night. We knew officials were fighting over how much information the president should share when he was speaking to America. Acting DNI Bill Pulte pushed for a more aggressive version, but senior White House aides intervened. Separate reports said the speech might have claimed that Georgia's two Democratic senators were elected illegitimately because they both came in during the 2020 runoff. The final address didn't go that far, meaning somebody pulled something back — or at least that's what the reports would lead us to believe, which means somebody inside the administration is telling a reporter. The 24-minute speech eventually focused more on election interference and intelligence findings as a way to get to the idea that the Save America Act should be passed. But even that's telling, because the speech was quickly swallowed by the news cycle. That's another hallmark of Trump 1.0: a lot of sound and fury signifying nothing, or at least nothing that's remembered more than 48 hours later. The biggest Trump 1.0 tell is Iran. From the very beginning, the administration has said the Iran strategy has two hands. Marco Rubio and Pete Hegseth are the closed fist, the violence that will come down on the regime, while J.D. Vance, Jared Kushner, and Steve Witkoff are the open hand of diplomacy. If you want to make a deal on our terms, we're always welcome. In the meantime, we'll punch you in the face. Trump has actively encouraged a rivalry between Vance and Rubio, asking people all the time who they think should be the next president. And now the proxies of both men are in out-and-out war online.Alex Bruesewitz is on the J.D. Vance side, making it a priority to talk about how much foreign influence, including Israel, is affecting the discourse. Meanwhile, Israel hawks, including Mark Levin and Ben Shapiro, are attacking Vance, saying he's surrendering to Qatar and he's mostly a socialist. The damage is falling most heavily on Vance because he's become the face of diplomacy. If the memorandum of understanding had worked, he would've gotten the credit. Since there's now a lot of violence happening in that region again, he gets the blame. Instead of all of this being part of one big rolling ball that is the Trump administration, we now have winners and losers, which means people inside that sphere are playing the game. Very Trump 1.0.The reason this happens in both instances is, well, Big Chungus. Trump 2.0's advantage was that the drama stayed outside the tent and the team inside was united. Now we're getting a clearer view of exactly what the war behind closed doors looks like, and in my opinion, it goes hand in hand with priorities not being enacted. You hear a lot about the Save America Act, but it's stalled and doesn't have the votes to become law. Iran is different because the consequences are immediate. Trump has to show that either pressure or diplomacy can produce a successful end state. If neither path works, he'll have made a very big bet without a clear conclusion, and he'll have to define a win for himself even if it's not very clear to the American people. We might already be in the lame-duck phase for Donald Trump, which may make all of these problems worse.Chapters00:00:00 - Intro00:03:44 - Trump 1.000:11:36 - Darlene Graham00:16:05 - Reconciliation, Again, Again00:19:38 - Andy Burnham00:25:03 - Interview with Michael Cohen01:13:55 - Wrap-up This is a public episode. Last week, all eyes were on Acting Attorney General Todd Blanche's confirmation hearing to lead the Justice Department. Mary and Andrew begin with their takeaways: from Blanche's “evasive, hyper-technical non-responses” to why his close relationship with Donald Trump is problematic, noting a moment where Blanche referred to himself as “his lawyer” and then quickly corrected himself — which Mary called a Freudian slip. They then turn to Trump's Thursday night address, where he claimed that U.S. elections have been compromised for years. Separating fact from fiction, the co-hosts look at how Trump's undermining of public confidence may affect the upcoming midterms. Mary and Andrew also highlight reporting from the New York Times indicating a slew of cases brought by ICE against protesters and immigrants are failing the sniff test in court. Plus, an update on former Columbia graduate student Mahmoud Khalil, who recently filed a lawsuit alleging the government and others were part of an effort to suppress criticism of Israel from pro-Palestinian demonstrators. Today's Headlines: Andrew and Tristan Tate were arrested in Miami by US Marshals at the UK's request, facing 59 total charges including rape, sex trafficking, assault, and charges related to indecent images of a child — their attorney says they're innocent, they'll fight extradition. On the corruption beat, Trump is now selling hedge funds early access to his Truth Social posts for $100,000 a month through a service called Truth API, which is institutionalized insider trading dressed up as a subscription service — and he owns 41% of the company selling it, so that's clean. Meanwhile, Trump's primetime election fraud document dump turned out to contain zero evidence of Chinese meddling or a deep state coverup, but did confirm that Russia was pushing the exact same Biden corruption narratives Trump was pushing in 2020 — which is not the smoking gun he was looking for. In other news, The State Department hosted a global left-wing terrorism summit led by Marco Rubio and Stephen Miller, with 60+ countries invited on short notice to discuss a threat that far-right extremists — responsible for over 75% of domestic terrorism deaths since 2001 — were not mentioned at, not even once. In war news, four US service members were killed after Iran struck Al-Azraq Air Base in Jordan with ballistic missiles and drones, bringing the total American death toll to 17 since the war started, and Trump's response was to order the military to "open the gates of hell" on Iran. After the mystery explosive diarrhea culprit was discovered, Taylor Farms recalled all of its central Mexico iceberg lettuce across 27 states, with Walmart, Sysco, and Taco Bell pulling products, and the same lettuce supplies Chipotle, McDonald's, Costco, and Trader Joe's, so America's salad situation is complicated. And finally, Spain won the World Cup defeating Argentina 1-0 in overtime, Trump attended, got booed multiple times, and photobombed Spain's trophy photos by overstaying his welcome on stage. .
