Running was not Ingrid Walters' first love. Nor was it her second, or her third. She didn't run in earnest until she turned 41, at which point she immediately began (quite literally) making up for lost time. After swimming competitively through the first two years of college, she began lifeguarding, and picked up beach running to stay in shape. She enjoyed it enough to accept a college classmate's “dare” to run the 1993 Los Angeles Marathon, which she completed in 4:03:00. After that, she effectively spent two decades away from the sport. At age 33 she ran the LA Marathon again, this time in 3:37 – almost exactly one minute per mile faster than her first attempt. Then, six years later, she pursued marathoning in earnest, running 3:17 at age 39, then 3:07 at age 40. She first broke three hours at the 2014 Chicago Marathon with a 2:54:58, good for third place in the Masters Division and a spot on “The List” of American-born Black female runners who have run a sub-three-hour marathon. Her marathon progression culminated when she, at age 47, won the women's Open division at the 2019 Los Angeles Marathon with a time of 2:48:03. Afterward, medical issues temporarily sidelined her—but as she explains, she might not be done with the sport yet. Walters is also an actress who's appeared in the film “Amistad,” and she has appeared in shows including “Baywatch,” “Scandal,” “Grey's Anatomy,” “Shameless,” and “Parenthood,” as well as on stage at the Geffen Playhouse and in over 50 national commercials.
Orange County Grappling (OCG) Masters Wrestlers, Dr. Petros Petrosyan and Bryan Jones Defend their U.S. Open Titles on April 19 in Las Vegas, NV. Editor's Note: This article has been updated following the victories of Dr. Petrosyan and Mr. Jones at the U.S. Open, who will now go on to defend their titles at the World Championships. Dr. Petrosyan won gold in freestyle and Greco-Roman at 88 Kilos, while Mr. Jones took Bronze in Freestyle and Gold in Greco-Roman Wrestling in the 130 Kilos weight class. In 2022, Dr. Petros Petrosyan and Brian Jones competed on behalf of Orange County Grappling (OCG) at the U.S. Open Wrestling tournament in Las Vegas. At that year's tournament, both Dr. Petrosyan took gold while Mr. Jones won bronze in their respective weight classes in the Masters Division for Freestyle Wrestling. Upon entering the World Championships, Mr. Jones had a horrible first round match in Freestyle, where he immediately switched to Greco-Roman Wrestling and became the new World's Heavyweight Champion in the Masters Division. Dr. Petrosyan won yet another world title in the 88 kilos weight class and brought home two championships to the United States. This year, Dr. Petrosyan and Mr. Jones will be aging out of the their divisions allowing them to go one more run as both will be competing in Freestyle and Greco-Roman Wrestling in Las Vegas, NV, on Wednesday, April 26, 2023. Dr. Petrosyan is the head coach for OCG, who hold their practices at Ocean View High School in Huntington Beach, CA. Mr. Jones, an assistant coach with Orange County Grappling has downplayed his wrestling skills claiming to be just an average wrestling, but being able to pivot from a loss at the world championships in Freestyle to comeback and bring home the gold to the good ol' U.S. of A. proves otherwise. Both men plan on repeating at the U.S. Open, with Dr. Petrosyan competing in both styles will put him at 10 U.S. Championships. If you live in the Southern California Area and wish to train with two world champions, visit www.oc-grappling.org for their full training schedule from youth wrestling to the masters division. Follow Orange County Grappling on Instagram @orangecountygrappling. In this episode Rafael Kalamat and Michael Bleackley talk to 6 Time World Long Drive Champion Jason "Golfzilla" Zuback. The G.O.A.T. has 40 Titles and a plethora of stories and knowledge about the game of Golf. We dive into the Jason's competition history, his experiences traveling the world shooting commercials for Pinnacle Golf, consulting with Cobra Golf, TPI performance and some funny stories about driving a green while Gary Player was on it. Jason also discusses Bryson Dechambeau and Kyle Berkshire's performance at the Professional Long Drivers Association (PLDA) as well long drive competitions at the Olympics and much more. Jason Zuback is shares his wealth of knowledge about golf mechanics, power and nutrition giving some advice to maintain optimum performance levels during a round of golf. Check him out at: Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/golfzillazuback/ Twitter: https://twitter.com/Golfzillazuback Web: www.jasonzuback.ca (In development) TPI (Titleist Performance Institute): https://www.mytpi.com/ Cobra Golf: https://www.cobragolf.com/ Krank Golf: https://krankgolf.com/pros/ More Info: Source: prolongdrive.com | https://prolongdrive.com/profile/241_jason-zuback/ "The barstools get empty pretty fast when it comes to long-drive, because there isn't anything to discuss much less anything the argue about… the simple reason is that five-time open division World Long Drive Champion along with his win in the Masters Division championship puts Canadian Jason Zuback head and shoulders above any other competitor in the entire forty-five hear history of the sport of long drive. Jason's journey in long drive began no differently than most other competitors. He obtained information regarding the scheduling of qualifying events, then made the seven-hour drive to Saskatoon, Saskatchewan to get a win, then decided to skip the drive back to the Canadian Regionals and instead went to Salt Lake City, Utah to compete in a local with a follow-up Regional event, which he won. You can only imagine the surprise of the many former champions whom he walked over on his way to his first world championship in 1996. Despite his dominance at the 1996 championships, no one assumed that Jason would win again in 1997, quite simply because no one had repeated during the past ten years dating back to Wedgy Winchester's back-to-back titles in 1985 and 1986; however, the champ quickly served notice on his fellow competitors with drives of over 400-yards in each of the qualifying rounds at the Casablanca Golf Club in Mesquite, Nevada and he topped it off with a record-setting 412-yard drive in the finals to get his second straight championship. That same year SPORTS ILLUSTRATED glossed Jason with the nickname of “Golfzilla” and after TIME magazine repeated it that same year, the name stuck. Although the name of the event was formally changed from the U.S. National Championship to the Re/Max World Long Drive Championship, and despite the fact that the venue was changed to the Palms Golf Club in Mesquite or the fact that the balls were changed to the Pinnacle Extreme or the fact that the champ changed drivers to use a blind-bore Titleist 975D there was no change in the final result as Golfzilla got the first-ever three-peat in long drive history, and so it went in 1999 for the four-peat. ACCOMPLISHMENTS: 6-time World Long Drive Champion – Open Division 1996, 1997, 1998, 1999, 2006; Senior Division 2015 2015 World Powergolf Matchplay Champion – Senior Division 2015 World Powergolf Matchplay 2nd – Open Division 2001 International Long Drive Champion 1998 LDA Tour Champion World Long Drive Championship (Open Division Only): 19 Top 25 Finishes 14 Top 12 Finishes 12 Top 10 Finishes 10 Final 8 Appearances 7 Top 10 Finishes in a row 3 Straight title defenses (next closest – 1 title defense) First competitor at World Long Drive Championship to win under straight shootout and head to head match play formats First and only competitor at World Long Drive Championship to win both the Open and the Senior Championships in first appearances in respective divisions. 1472 days without a loss in LDA sanctioned Long Drive competition. So I wanted to do a quick recap on the Crossfit Competition I did a few weeks back with my buddy and teammate, Andy Janzen. We were able to WIN the Masters Division at the “Crossfit Circuit” that’s an annual event that’s been getting put on for the past 6 years. There were a total of 40 teams in our division and 450 athletes overall in the whole event. CRAZY… It was a FUN weekend filled with a lot of highs and I was thrilled to be a part of it and most of all, to WIN IT! Felt good to stand on top of that podium. But this episode isn’t about the competition… It’s about the mindset of “NEVER BEING TOO OLD”. Truth is, the day you tell yourself that you’re “too old” is the day you start dying. Listen in to see what I mean… PS - Are you an EX-Athlete DAD and ready to start LIVING and pushing past the BS story of "being too old"... If you have a need and you're driven to drop 20-30 lbs of unwanted weight and you're ready to DESTROY THE DAD BOD for good so you can get lean and strong while boosting your energy and confidence, so you can be at your BEST... Mother of 5 and Fabulous I can't compete because: I'm too old. I'm a mother of x number of children. The sport is for younger girls with a lot of energy. These are just but few excuses in the ocean of excuses that women hide behind. But really, can you compete while a bit older? To be honest with you, this sport is not age restrictive. Whether 40, 50, 60,……yes, you can compete. Yes, you heard me! Just like you can achieve your dreams at any age, similarly, in this sport there's always an opportunity for you to accomplish what you set out to do. It doesn't matter what age you are. You can compete at any age as long as you put your heart and mind to it. So where do you begin? If you are 35+ and above and want to jump in the bandwagon, you can consider Bikini Masters Division. This is a division designed only for women ages 35 and older. So, if you fall into this category and are new to fitness and wondering where to begin, this is a perfect division for you. To demystify eligibility in this category, let's have a chat with Nicole Johnson who has successfully competed in this division. Nicole Johnson is an IFBB Bikini Pro and a Coach. She is also an amazing wife and a mom to 5 precious kids. At age 41, Nichole turned pro in three months in the Masters Division. In this episode, Nicole talks about how she became Pro in the Masters Division and exactly how you can become Pro in the same division. She also talks about the challenges she's faced being older in the sport. Additionally, she answers a very important question: Do you ever have to choose competing over your children? Without further ado, I am so excited and delighted to introduce to you IFBB Bikini Professional Nicole Johnson. Some people train for a sport from the time they’re very young and become elite. Some people don’t even begin to get active until much later in life but become high level competitors. This week’s guest is here to remind us to never underestimate what we can accomplish regardless of age, even those of us who’ve spent most of our lives as couch potatoes. Our guest this week is Fitness Trainer and Coach Robin Legat, host of the Seasoned Athlete podcast. It’s your home for stories, inspiration, motivation, training tips and more directly from elite athletes from a wide variety of sports who all share one common bond: they are all over 40 years old. We're here to prove one story at a time that age does NOT have to prevent you from achieving bold athletic and fitness goals, and living your best life. Robin herself is a "late in life athlete". After spending most of her life as a self-proclaimed music and theater nerd, Robin discovered the full-contact sport of roller derby at age 28. She played for eleven years before retiring in 2014. She has now found a new sport to channel her athletic energy - obstacle course racing. She has run nine Spartan Races since her first race in December 2015, earned her first Trifecta in 2016 and has recently begun competing at the elite level. Robin's goal is to podium in the Masters Division in the coming years - sooner if she has any say in the situation. As a trainer, Robin unlocks the full athletic potential for busy professionals in Los Angeles and beyond who want to push their physical and mental limits and live their healthiest and most awesome life. And she has a lot to say on the subject of play. The links I promised you: Listen to Robin’s podcast, Seasoned Athlete Visit Robin’s website to find out more about her coaching and training
