To hear more, visit bequranic.substack.comAssalamualaikum warahmatullahi wabarakatuh.Today is the 28th of January, 28th of Rajab.Alhamdulillah, that means we're studying ayah number 28 from Surah Al-Mulk today.Welcome to the Quranic 2025 New Year Challenge. Our challenge this new year is to begin the year by diving into Surah Al-Mulk.Every day, we read one ayah,we dissect its tajweed rules,we reflect on its meaning,we uncover timeless lessons and wisdom, and as an added challenge, we memorize one ayah per day.BeQuranic is a reader-supported publication. To receive new posts and support my work, consider becoming a free or paid subscriber.By the end of January, inshaAllah, we'll have memorized and internalized this great surah. This will make it easier for us to recite it every night before we go to sleep, earning its status as a protector from the torment of the grave. If you're new to the Quranic challenge, don't worry. Take your time—one ayah a day, or even one ayah every two days. What matters is consistent progress. As Rasulullah ﷺ said, “The most beloved deeds to Allah are those done consistently, even if they are small.”Let's aim for small, steady steps forward—today better than yesterday, and tomorrow better than today, inshaAllah. Now, let's dive into ayah number 28 of Surah Al-Mulk:قُلْ أَرَأَيْتُمْ إِنْ أَهْلَكَنِيَ اللَّهُ وَمَنْ مَعِيَ أَوْ رَحِمَنَا فَمَنْ يُجِيرُ الْكَافِرِينَ مِنْ عَذَابٍ أَلِيمٍReflection and Meaning:In this ayah, Allah commands the Prophet ﷺ to ask the disbelievers a profound question:“If Allah were to destroy me and those with me, or if He were to show us mercy, who would protect the disbelievers from a painful punishment?”This statement serves as a powerful reminder that the fate of the disbelievers is in their own hands.Whether the Prophet ﷺ and his followers succeed or perish, it will not change the reality that the disbelievers are still accountable for their actions. It's a wake-up call: rather than focusing on the fate of others, they should be concerned about their own.

I hope you're all doing well and staying consistent with your daily reflections. Can you believe we're three weeks into this journey with Surah Al-Mulk? SubhanAllah, time flies when you're immersing yourself in the Qur'an.BeQuranic is a reader-supported publication. To receive new posts and support my work, consider becoming a free or paid subscriber.Today's ayah is number 22, and it's such a powerful one. Let's start by reciting it:“Is the one who crawls face-first more guided, or the one who walks upright on a straight path?”Wow, right? That imagery is so vivid and so thought-provoking. Let's dive into it.What's Allah Asking Us?Imagine this scene: Someone is crawling, face pressed against the ground, barely able to see ahead. They're fumbling around, tripping, unable to make sense of their surroundings. Now picture another person standing tall, walking upright, confidently making their way down a clear, straight path.Who's going to reach their destination safely? Who's more likely to avoid obstacles? The answer is obvious.Allah is painting this picture to show us two types of people:1. Those who are misguided, lost in their desires, disconnected from their Creator—like the one crawling face-first.2. And those who are guided, walking upright, aware of their surroundings, and focused on their journey—people with a clear purpose and direction.

With 30 ayahs and 31 days in the month, we're steadily progressing towards a complete understanding and memorization of this beautiful surah.Remember, this challenge is not about speed but consistency. Even if you're going slower than one ayah a day, the key is to keep moving forward. Progress, no matter how small, is progress!BeQuranic is a reader-supported publication. To receive new posts and support my work, consider becoming a free or paid subscriber. Translation of Ayah 21“Who is it that can provide for you if He withholds His provisions? Yet, they persist in arrogance and aversion.”Reflections on Ayah 211. Rizq (Provision) Is Entirely in Allah's HandsAllah reminds us that our rizq—our sustenance—comes only from Him. If He chooses to withhold it, no one can provide it for us.Think about this: every bite of food, every drop of water, and every breath we take is a direct provision from Allah. Recognizing this leads to:• Gratitude: A heart filled with thankfulness for every blessing.• Reliance: A deep trust in Allah as the ultimate Provider.

We're not just memorizing—we're reflecting, exploring its timeless lessons, and growing spiritually. If you've stuck with us this far, mashallah! And if you've just joined us, welcome aboard—take it at your own pace. Even one ayah a day is a blessing.Let's get started with today's ayah—ayah 20.BeQuranic is a reader-supported publication. To receive new posts and support my work, consider becoming a free or paid subscriber. Meaning of Ayah 20Translation:“Who is it that can be an army for you to help you besides Ar-Rahman (the Most Merciful)? Indeed, the disbelievers are only in delusion.”Reflections and Lessons1. A Reminder of Our PowerlessnessThis ayah poses a rhetorical question: If you stand against Allah, who can possibly help you?Think about it—Allah has already described some of His forces:• The earth, which He tamed for us but can shake violently.• The wind, which carries blessings or destruction.• The stars, part of His armies, used as missiles against devils (as mentioned earlier in the surah). So who can possibly defend us if we choose to rebel against the Creator?2. The Illusion of StrengthAllah points out that disbelievers live in delusion. They think their power, wealth, or status can shield them from divine consequences. But look at history:• The mighty Firaun drowned in a body of water.• The advanced civilization of Thamud, with their homes carved into mountains, was destroyed in moments.• Even today, natural disasters remind us how powerless humanity truly is.Our perceived strength is fragile. Real strength lies in submission to Allah.

Every day, we read one ayah, break down its Tajweed rules, delve into its meaning, and reflect on its timeless lessons. As an added challenge, we memorise one ayah a day. If you're with us from the start, congratulations! You're over halfway through. By the end of January, inshaAllah, we'll have memorised the entire surah.BeQuranic is a reader-supported publication. Today's ayah reminds us of the flip side: If He can tame the earth, He can also unleash its destructive power.Reflection on Allah's Power:This verse is a wake-up call. Do we really feel so safe in our disobedience that we forget Allah's might? Earthquakes, landslides, and natural calamities serve as reminders that everything remains under His control. Thanks for reading BeQuranic! This post is public so feel free to share it.

Congratulations, we've officially reached the halfway point of Surah Al-Mulk! If you've stuck with us this far, you're already beating the odds. Most people give up on their New Year's resolutions by now, but here you are, showing up for your Quranic journey. MashaAllah!Remember, greatness doesn't happen overnight. It's built through small, consistent steps. As Rasulullah ﷺ beautifully said:“The best deeds are those done consistently, even if they are few.”So, let's keep going with one ayah a day. Let's dive into ayah 15 of Surah Al-Mulk:“It is He who made the earth tame for you—so traverse through its regions and eat of His provision. And to Him is the resurrection.”BeQuranic is a reader-supported publication. To receive new posts and support my work, consider becoming a free or paid subscriber.Reflecting on Ayah 15This ayah is a beautiful reminder of Allah's power, His blessings, and our ultimate accountability. Let's unpack it:1. The Earth as TameAllah describes the earth as dhaloolan—tamed, manageable, and subservient. Just like a domesticated animal is tamed for riding, Allah has made the earth easy for us to live on.Think about it:• The ground is stable for building homes.• There's soft soil for farming.• Water flows in rivers and springs. All of this is so intricately balanced for human survival and ease. Could we have done this ourselves? Absolutely not.2. Travel and ExploreAllah commands us: “Famshoo fee manakibiha”—travel through its regions, walk its paths, and explore its diversity. This is an invitation to experience the vastness of Allah's creation. From bustling cities to serene mountains, every corner of the earth is a testament to His greatness.3. Provisions from AllahAllah reminds us: “Wakuloo min rizqihi”—eat from His provisions. Notice how Allah emphasises “His provisions.” Everything we consume—whether it's bread on our table or fruit from distant lands—ultimately comes from Him.4. AccountabilityAnd then Allah grounds us with: “Wa ilayhi al-nushoor”—to Him is the resurrection. We're reminded that our journey on this earth is temporary. No matter how much we travel, explore, and consume, we'll all return to Allah for accountability.

How's everyone doing? We're almost halfway through Surah Al-Mulk, and I hope this journey is inspiring you as much as it's inspiring me.Here's the plan, as always: one ayah a day, dissecting its Tajweed rules, understanding its meaning, and exploring the timeless wisdom it holds. And don't forget that added challenge—memorising one ayah every day! By the end of January, inshaAllah, we'll not only understand this surah but also have it in our hearts.BeQuranic is a reader-supported publication. To receive new posts and support my work, consider becoming a free or paid subscriber. Now, let's dive into today's ayah—ayah 14:“Does He who created not know, while He is the Subtle, Most Aware?”Tajweed Check-InBefore we delve into the meaning, let's review some Tajweed gems from this ayah:1. The letter ‘Ayn: This is a tricky one for many of us non-Arabs. It's a flowing sound, not blocked. So, when you say Ala, let it glide. It's not a stop—it's a soft flow.2. The noon sakin: There's no gunna here. It's a clear noon, pronounced crisply, like in man khalaqah.3. The mad arid lissukun: At the end of the ayah, we pause, extending it for four harakat.Let's always strive to give each letter its full rights. Remember, Tajweed isn't just about the sound—it's about respecting the words of Allah. The Meaning of Ayah 14Allah asks us a rhetorical question here: Does the One who created not know? Think about it—Allah, who created us, who designed every intricate part of our being, knows us better than we know ourselves. He knows not just what we say or do, but also what we think, feel, and intend.Allah then describes Himself as Al-Lateef—the Subtle—and Al-Khabeer—the All-Aware. These names are so profound. Al-Lateef refers to Allah's knowledge of even the smallest, most hidden things. Al-Khabeer tells us that He's completely aware of everything, from the tiniest atom to the grandest galaxy, and everything in between—including the deepest secrets of our hearts.Context of Revelation

We're moving forward in our journey through Surah Al-Mulk, studying one ayah every day this month. By the end of January, inshaAllah, we'll have completed not just reading and reflecting on, but also memorising this profound surah that the Prophet ﷺ described as our protector from the torment of the grave.Remember, it's not just about reciting for the hasanat, which is wonderful—10 rewards for every letter! But the deeper goal is to internalise its meaning, reflect on its wisdom, and let it shape our lives to be more Quranic. So let's dive into ayah 13 today:“And conceal your speech or publicise it; indeed, He is Knowing of that within the chests.”Let's break this down. In this ayah, Allah is saying it doesn't matter if you whisper your words, shout them out loud, or keep your thoughts locked in your heart—Allah knows. Everything. Even what's buried deep within us.Now, here's something fascinating. Ibn Abbas narrated the reason for the revelation of this ayah. Some of the Quraysh leaders were secretly plotting against the Prophet ﷺ, and one of them said, “Keep your voices low so Muhammad's God doesn't hear us.” SubhanAllah! And Allah responded with this ayah, revealing their hidden conversation to the Prophet ﷺ.BeQuranic is a reader-supported publication. To receive new posts and support my work, consider becoming a free or paid subscriber. It's a powerful reminder that nothing—absolutely nothing—is hidden from Allah. He knows not only what we say but also what we think, what we intend, and even the whispers of doubt in our hearts. This ayah is a wake-up call, but it's also deeply comforting. It's a warning for those who think they can hide their evil intentions from Allah. But for believers, it's a source of hope. Why? Because Allah knows our struggles. He knows our silent duas, the pain we can't put into words, and the effort we make to turn away from sin—even when no one else sees it.

I wish you a happy new year and encourage you to challenge yourself spiritually. These verses get a glimpse of how we grow in spiritual maturity in our minds and hearts. Within Western Christianity, spiritual tests appear to have the context of blessings. But within these verses, we see that spiritual tests drive us closer to God. This year create a space to grow spiritually through faithful tests to experience more of God. I find evidence when God tests us within our mind and heart, He reveals himself more and allows us to understand ourselves better.May this podcast give you strength and the ability to do amazing work today!Blessings,Haunn"An Archaeologist of Hope

Ep 088 - When you don't feel good after the holidays

How to Love Your Body

Play Episode Listen Later Jan 7, 2020 29:11

Welcome to How to Love Your Body - today we are talking about the post Holidays - to ease any feelings and overwhelm that may have come up in the past week or two.  This week we are launching our Free 5 Day Wellness Without the Obsession in the New Year Challenge! You can grab it at bit.ly/undiet5days   We get it.  In general (we know this may not be everyone) the holidays are a bit much.  There are more    Parties  Food  Drinks  Etc    It may be very joyful for some and not so joyful for others but the point is- if you are celebrating the holidays and you’re working on IE + UnDieting many feelings could have come up for you -- and we are here to ease your worries (if you even had any) …  Even though we get to listen to our bodies as IE’ers and do what feels good - we can’t help but understand that during the holidays it’s just different - there is a lot more going on that normally wouldn’t be going on such as the parties with decadent delicious food that could be stressful. It may be a few days or a week of non stop parties and events and although it may be fun and social it also may be a lot to handle when learning about IE and healing your relationship with food and your body…  Of course we also know there are many feelings of being SO free - and so happy to not be dieting during the holidays and to actually enjoy the food you’ve always restricted and actually be enjoying the party because “it’s not all about the food” anymore. We get there could be co existing feelings- and that’s normal!   With all the good there does come some things that may not feel so good ---  If you’ve felt overly full multiple times during the holidays - THAT’S OKAY! The seasons change, the holidays have ended - the new year has begun and now we’re all diving into whatever else we have going on -- the point is - whatever happened over the holidays with food it’s okay - you don’t need to “fix” anything - you don’t need to “get back on track” - you don’t need to plan extra workouts or meal plans - no no no - those days are over as dieters…  You can honestly trust your body  to do her thing - even if you are saying you’ve overeaten during the holidays and don’t feel too great. Trust that your body knows what to do… and that you don’t need to jump back in and start controlling and manipulating and restricting …  What you can do is ---  Ask yourself - how is my body feeling? What does it need to feel good in this very moment.  And that really can be anything.  -If it’s eating more fruits and veggies today because that’s what sounds good and will feel good - then do that.  -If it’s doing movement you enjoy - add that in.  -If it’s eating that last piece of your favorite dessert leftover from the holidays - then do that.  Whatever it is that your body needs - honor it. Keep checking in and asking what will feel good without a need to change anything other than how you FEEL.  -Don’t eat the veggies if you hate them but feel you have to because you ate so much over the holidays. -Don’t force yourself to the gym if you hate that because it’s the new year -Don’t do anything that you feel like you aren’t genuinely doing to honor your body.  Many people think of it as “cutting back” or not eating so much ____ now that the holidays are over… this will only lead to bingeing later because it will feel restrictive To feel more like your typical day to day self just add in what you think will feel GOOD, never about taking anything away. Feeling restricted puts your brain on high alert and makes you start thinking about food all day and the binge eating or screw it moments can come back in full force.  Being an UnDieter is so different from diet culture - it’s about living your life, feeling free around food, being respectful to your body, feeling good in your body, and having wellness without the obsession.  So if you do have this “post holiday overwhelm” - take a deep breath. There is nothing to be done - allow yourself to enjoy what was eaten over the holidays because food gets to be pleasurable AND know that you can also take one next step at a time to feel good in your body.  And just because the holidays are over doesn’t mean that the food and the treats get locked away until next year- no, they are here to stay. All food is allowed year round and the more you keep allowing yourself to have what you desire and what satisfies you AND listen to what feels good you truly can have it all. You can have your cake and kale and eat it too.  You are doing great- be compassionate and respectful to yourself and be okay with the ebb and flow of life and the changing seasons.

Welcome to Adventuring the Girl Life, where we believe life for every girl should be well-lived. Today’s Topic: Find one word that you should live for the year 2019. Yes, one word – one word that could be the basis to focus on doing your ultimate goals. Finding your word that you want to define your whole year is like creating your mantra. A mantra is something that is repeated so you can concentrate or focus on a regular basis. Now, let’s move on to choosing the ultimate word that will keep you on track and at the same time make your whole year enjoyable. Listen in as I walk you through – these are just simple steps to follow and, finally, to be in total control of 2019. Girls, you don’t have to be strict in following your word of the year. It doesn’t have to be perfect; make it fun. It is just something that will guide you depending on the situation. So, girls, I am highly encouraging you to do this based on my experience. I had one this year – my word for 2018 is ‘improvement – and it was an absolute constant that reminds me in everything I do. I got to launch the Adventuring the Girl Life podcast, for one, and now we’re on our 26th episode! Girls, I’m so proud of you. We all deserve this! And, let me remind you not to forget to join our New Year Challenge called FIRST SIX if you haven’t yet! [New Year, New You] Day 12: Believe What You See, Not What They Say The entire conventional education system operates on the assumption that you will dutifully swallow the information you are given, accept it as truth, then regurgitate it politely and perfectly at a specified date and time on test day. And after an average of twelve years of daily practice drilling this technique in place, it's no wonder we tend to believe the things we're told without questioning them, or considering whether it's important and valuable to.  We're cruising along at top speed during our 21-Day New Year, New You Challenge, and if you're still here tuning in and showing up, then you are a rare breed of rebel--someone ready for the article I'm about to share with you.   You can read the rest of the article to accompany this podcast here.

[New Year, New You] Day 7: The Joy of Dirty Fingernails We're one third of the way through our 21-Day New Year, New You Challenge,  and our goal now is to keep things more practical than theoretical. The most valuable people in life are not necessarily the ones with loud voices, sophisticated vocabularies or thick books credited to their name. There are many people who do a lot of thinking about how to make life work, and many more who who do a lot of talking, this blog post is dedicated to the ones who, in the midst of struggle or strife quietly rolled up their sleeves and got busy doing whatever it took to make life work. This blog is dedicated to the dirty fingernails of the world--the ones whose blood, sweat and tears spill getting things done, while others spend time talking about it. This is a message for action-takers--the ones who aren’t afraid to get a little messy trying to make life go right, and who know that making life go right doesn’t just mean “when you feel like it,” or “when it’s convenient for you," but when the going gets tough and it's rough and wild and a little scary! Take a Seat and Make Yourself Uncomfortable We're presented, for the first time in known history, with a whole new culture where an ever-present exposure to media and an onslaught of highly provocative visual imagery can hold (and keep) our attention hostage for hours and hours a day. This attention trap is keeping an increasing number of otherwise capable and productive people distracted, overstimulated and unproductive. When you add to this attention-sucking trap, lowered levels of literacy, a compromised state of physical health, increased exposure to harmful, environmental toxins, pharmaceuticals, pesticides, fungicides, suicides, ADHD and autism, we are leading ourselves directly into a swamp of stupidity and long-term suffering. If your life is as pleasurable as the size of your obstacles, then how many obstacles do you really get by swiping and clicking and dropping and dragging stuff on an electronic clipboard? If we feel alive by reaching out and making things happen, then how much can our confidence and happiness really improve if we're stuck sitting in our chairs or desks zoning in to the computer screen and checking out of life in the real world. It might seem comfortable to sit there on your electronic device, but the rapidly increasing rates of depression and anxiety in teens indicate it's not that comfortable? There was a day when children were supposed to be "seen, but not heard" and now that that day has come to a large degree, and I gotta say, I hate it. I like the noisy, rule-breakers and trouble-makers! They make life fun--they make life feel ALIVE!
