As we jump into 2024, one of the BEST updates I have to share with everyone is my partnership with Athlete Narrative. I'm an Ambassador for them because I truly believe in what they're doing to help athletes with their branding and marketing of their own name, image, and likeness. If anyone has questions regarding this, please email me or DM me on my platforms, but using my link, you can receive a 10% discount monthly for the duration of your membership. Athlete Narrative is the FUTURE of branding for athletes!! I know this will be a MASSIVE resource for athletes AND parents! Checkout the link below!!  https://ambassador.athletenarrative.com/shane-larson-join  This episode is an INCREDIBLE opportunity to learn about perserverance from a current JUCO basketball player, who made his way to the college ranks after a LOT of hard work. We don't just say that, you're actually going to hear and see WHAT he had to do exactly in order to make his way into the college basketball world! I met Kaden when he was playing basketball at a local high school here in Idaho, in the city of Eagle. Kaden didn't really get on the court much at that time, but I always knew that he had the body type to play at the next level. And when I heard his story, I KNEW he had to be on the show! He currently is playing at Blue Mountain Community College in Pendleton, OR.  Blue Mountain is part of the NWAC. Today you're going to hear what it takes to get there. You're going to hear about the hard work, daily consistency and discipline it takes, the adversity you may have to go through, and you're going to hear about the attitude and mindset required to reach your goals.  Ultimately, what I hope you gain from this interview, is an appreciation for Kaden's story. This is a man who had a goal, and didn't allow anyone around him to deter him from that. In fact, he doubled down on himself, and bet on himself (something MANY of us can learn something about and apply more into our own lives).  Please tap into this episode, and the only thing I ask is if you enjoy the interview, that you provide a review on Apple Podcasts or Spotify for us! Thank you so much!  And if you want to follow Kaden's journey, follow him on Instagram:  @kaden_johnson.2 - https://www.instagram.com/kaden_johnson.2/  ____________________________ Come follow The Gametime Guru on the various social media platforms! canadaLANDBACK is a co-production by Canada's National Observer and Canadaland.Landback is not just about returning real estate. It is about Indigenous people reclaiming who we are and making ourselves whole again. An elder once told me that he believed residential schools were designed to hurt women, because "They knew that when you break the hearts of our women, you break the strength of our nations."That story and other teachings tell us that women are central and even sacred to our communities. This episode looks at how women are reclaiming their role as mothers, teachers, leaders, and sacred beings, despite everything colonialism has thrown at them. This is not a story of hope, so much as it is a story of resilience and courage. In this episode of landback we interview three women, whose stories intersect; Terri Brown, a former chief of the Tahltan First Nation in British Columbia, and former president of the Native Women's Association (NWAC); Dr. Beverly Jacobs, Mohawk, Six Nations, is the Senior Advisor to the President on Indigenous Relations and Outreach at the University of Windsor and an Associate Professor in the Faculty of Law, who is also a former President of NWAC; Tori Cress Ojibway and Pottawattami, G'Chimnissing is a land and water defender. What would you do if you were caught in an avalanche? How do you minimize your risk when you're traveling in the snowy mountains? Robert Hahn has studied avalanches and still managed to get caught in one.  He works for the Northwest Avalanche Center.  He shares his personal avalanche survival story. He also shares tips on how you can avoid repeating his fate. After 50 mins, we shift away from talking about avalanches and we talk about his harrowing experiences in the Himalayas. After 70 minutes, we talk about his fascinating time in Africa, which includes two years in the Peace Corps in Uganda, climbing the 3rd tallest peak in Africa, and several cultural insights, including the importance (or lack thereof) of honesty. I briefly mention my podcast with Sym Blanchard, who talks about how to live a meaningful life. About Robert Hahn Robert Hahn is an Avalanche Forecasting Meteorologist who has worked at NWAC since 2017. Robert is responsible for twice-daily mountain weather forecasts for all zones and daily avalanche forecasts for the Olympics, Mt. Hood, Washington Cascades East South, and other zones as needed, while helping to coordinate the avalanche products throughout the region. Robert believes that quality mountain weather and avalanche products will help backcountry travelers inform their decisions in the mountains, ultimately saving lives. Robert holds a master’s degree in Atmospheric Sciences from the University of Washington. When Robert is not working, you’ll find him backcountry skiing in remote corners of the Cascades or Canada and exploring tropical jungles when the snow melts. Native women’s group loses discrimination case. In 1991, when the federal government was trying to change the constitution, it gave $10 million to four aboriginal groups to secure their input throughout an extensive consultative process. Unfortunately, the government overlooked the Native Women’s Association of Canada (NWAC), whose members felt they should have been at what they considered a male-dominated table. Belatedly trying to correct matters, the government gave NWAC $560,000, but it didn’t stop the women from taking the federal government to court for violating their charter rights – by denying them freedom of expression and discriminating against them based on gender. On March 30, 1992, Judge Walsh of the federal Court of Canada dismissed the case, saying that while more money would have given the NWAC more voice in the process, it is not up to the courts to ensure that every organization has money during a consultative process. The judge also found that the other four aboriginal groups represented both men and women, and therefore the court should not be interfering with the government’s choices. This decision was appealed all the way to the Supreme Court of Canada, which agreed with Judge Walsh in dismissing the case. See acast.com/privacy for privacy and opt-out information.

A conversation with Schone Malliet, the founder and current head of the National Winter Activity Center or NWAC in Vernon, New Jersey. The NWAC works to introduce under-resourced kids from the New York City metropolitan area to winter sports. They partner with organizations such as the YMCA and Boys and Girls Club of America to bus young people to the center on property formerly known as Hidden Valley, an alpine area with lights and snow making entirely owned and operated by NWAC exclusively for NWAC participants. They provide each participant with equipment, mentoring, healthy meals and even clothing as needed, to get them on the hill with an instructor. They are a non-profit and their programs are made affordable to participants. Having already expanded to snowboarding, NWAC is now expanding to include Nordic skiing. Schone is a former marine captain and pilot. He is an African American who grew up in the South Bronx. He studied Econ at Holy Cross College and then earned an MBA at Pepperdine University. He worked in finance at Wells Fargo before becoming the executive vice president of the National Brotherhood of Skiers and the CEO of the National Winter Sports Education Foundation. This is the first interview that I’ve done remotely and the audio quality is not perfect. Thanks for bearing with me as I learn the best ways to record these conversations. However, a few folks don't believe they've achieved the success they're looking for. Whether that's flipping more houses, being my own boss, making more money, financial freedom or controlling my own schedule. So we asked the club a second question: Why aren't you achieving the goals you've set? On this episode, the founders, Dave and Melina along with a few senior real estate investors at New Wealth Advisors Club examine these answers and challenge them with a fresh perspective on how it's possible to realize your dreams.
