What if the solution to America's health crisis is buried in the soil beneath our feet? In this episode of Remnant Finance, Hans and Brian are joined by Kevin Muno, first-generation rancher and founder of Perennial Pastures Ranch.Kevin shares his remarkable journey from college baseball player to regenerative agriculture advocate, explaining the principles behind soil health and discussing the controversial world of raw milk. From his initial permaculture experiments to managing thousands of acres of rangeland, Kevin provides insights into how properly managed grazing can transform degraded landscapes. The conversation explores how regenerative practices not only create healthier ecosystems but also produce meat with superior nutritional profiles compared to conventional farming. The discussion extends to investment opportunities in regenerative agriculture and how consumers can support this growing movement.Journey to Regenerative Ranching: After a baseball career-ending injury, the path to regenerative agriculture began with permaculture and homesteading, eventually growing into a cattle operation on 16,000 acres of leased land in San Diego County.Regenerative Agriculture Principles: Conventional farming practices have degraded soil quality, while regenerative methods rebuild soil health through animal integration, plant diversity, and maximizing photosynthesis. This approach mimics natural ecosystems to create nutrient-dense food while healing degraded landscapes.Factory Farming vs. Regenerative Practices: The conversation contrasts conventional factory farming with regenerative practices, highlighting how properly managed cattle create healthier meat with optimal omega-6 to omega-3 ratios (sometimes as low as 0.8:1 compared to the Standard American Diet's 16:1).Raw Milk Revolution: The history and benefits of raw milk are discussed, including plans for launching a dairy herd share program. The group explores how government agencies have disproportionately targeted raw milk producers despite their strong safety records.Investment Opportunity: Expansion through ranch acquisition and regeneration is underway. Using advanced technologies like satellite imagery and walkover weighing scales allows for precise management decisions years in advance, creating resilient operations even in drought conditions.▶️ Chapters: 00:00 - Introduction and Background03:00 - Baseball Career and Transition to Agriculture09:00 - Permaculture and Gardening Beginnings14:00 - How Regenerative Agriculture Heals the Land21:00 - Military Health and American Nutrition Crisis26:00 - Managing Land with Animals and Crops32:00 - Single Focus vs. Diversity in Farming34:00 - Factory Farming vs. Regenerative Practices39:00 - Nutrient Density in Food43:00 - Raw Milk History and Benefits52:00 - Government Overreach in Food Regulation59:00 - Regenerative Ranching Investment Opportunity01:12:00 - Advanced Metrics and Drought-Proofing Techniques 01:20:00 -  How to Support Perennial Pastures RanchCheck out Kevin's regenerative ranching work and explore his nutrient-dense food offerings at https://campsite.bio/perennialpasturesranch - your gateway to better health through better agriculture!Got Questions? On this episode we welcome Newton Cheng back to the podcast, but this time he's taking over hosting duty! In his previous episode we focused on what military human performance could learn from corporate wellness, but he wanted to turn the tables and find out what corporate wellness could learn from military human performance. Newton is a father, world-class powerlifter, engineer, and Google's Director of Health and Performance. In his work, he leads a team with the mission to support the physical, mental, social, and spiritual health and well-being of Google's global workforce. At the time this episode is publishing, he's also just a few days out from competing in primetime at USAPL raw nationals. If you're curious to learn more about his (impressive) powerlifting, check out his Instagram page. This wide ranging conversation is all about helping someone with an outside perspective understand how the military approaches human performance, including both the good parts and the bad parts. We hope this will become a continuing conversation, since we have a lot to learn from each other in this space. In our discussion about spirituality we recommended Soul Boom by Rainn Wilson, which you can find here. In our attempt to define both corporate wellness and military human performance we cited several sources, those are: Human Performance Optimization: A Framework for the Military Health System Booz Allen's Human Performance Training for Military Missions RTI International's Military Health and Human Performance Human Performance Resources by the Consortium for Health and Military Performance (CHAMP) Bureau of Labor Statistics' What attributes characterize a successful corporate wellness program?

Mental Health Trailblazers: Psychiatric Nurses Speak Up

Sample the penultimate season one episode of “Mental Health Trailblazers, Psychiatric Nurses Speak Up,” where our host Indrias Kassaye will be interviewing Dr. Jillian Inouye: a licensed psychologist, a qualified mental health professional, a board certified clinical specialist in psychiatric nursing, and an advanced practice registered nurse. Among her many areas of research, she's presented new insights on topics such as Asian-Pacific Islanders' Health Disparities and psychiatric care, including schizophrenia, depression, substance use and abuse and more.Working hand-in-hand with politicians during an early summer internship, Dr. Inouye found her love of psychology, psychiatry, nursing and cross-cultural problems by helping to craft a bill focused on combating child abuse due to family or support system isolation within military institutions. In working to overcome both internal limitations (being reserved) and external challenges (racially based microaggressions), Dr. Inouye has been able to expand her career to regularly contribute to the scientific community.Within this conversation, Dr. Inouye and Indrias work though concepts such as how nursing can look at not just mental and social effects, but at physical and biological interactions, her expansive work within the Diabetes Prevention Project as well as her own RO1 that looked at managing diabetes and depression in ethnic groups (mainly Asian Pacific Islanders), and the importance for rising generations to mobilize in order to take action in support of future minority healthcare. If you want to gain further awareness on how legislation plays an important role in the dissemination of research, wish to receive insight on the value of mentoring (especially for Minority Fellowship Program fellows) so as to best know what key elements may arise from recent historical moments, or just have an interest in the political landscapes that can accompany various grant submission processes, then start this episode.
