Today, Jessica and Lacy are talking about a nuance in the TBM manifestation process that might change how you see everything – it's called a Bridge Manifestation. A manifestation that isn't quite the full thing, but it appears between where you are now and where you want to be (aka your ultimate manifestation). Jessica and Lacy share insights on manifesting bridges and what this important stepping stone might look like for you right now. In this episode: it's not easy it's simple, the flywheel, being consistent, skilling up, the gift of time, and what money can provide. This week we are joined by founder and creator of ConvertKit, Nathan Barry to discuss his entrepreneurial journey and how the fundamentals of FI helped drive him to create and build a successful business. We often discuss the importance of skill stacking when on the journey to FI, but we sometimes forget to touch on the trial and error that comes with learning and creating something new for yourself. While you can't expect to start something new and be faced with little to no challenges, this leaves more opportunities for personal growth and important lessons! So whether it's learning a new side hustle or starting a business, it's important to remember that you may not always know how to do something perfect when you begin. You should not count yourself out or give up when you don't see instant results, but rather reach out to new communities and take the lessons in stride! Stay tuned to the end of the interview where I'll give you some actionable insights that I learned from my guest. These insights are also in the show notes. As always, thanks for listening. Now on to my guest for today, Josh Adler, a serial entrepreneur and founder of Convrtx. Convrtx offers help to startups in four ways: through strategic support, help in raising capital, product development, and launch strategy.  Josh comes from a family of successful entrepreneurs in Canada. He started out as young as eleven in accounting and worked his way through various aspects of business, which has given him unique insights into how to build and run a company. He attended the University of Toronto for business and MIT, where he earned a certificate in cybersecurity. He has launched several other businesses, including Open Advisor, a support network to help startups globally and in particular in developing countries.  In our talk, Josh shares insights into the ways in which Dubai, where he now lives, contributes to a flourishing culture of entrepreneurship. The government offers financial support for people who go from working for the government to launching a startup. When COVID hit, providing free, regular testing along with tight restrictions around people who tested positive helped the area, which relies heavily on tourism, to stay resilient.   Now, let's get better together. Actionable Insights While Josh had the privilege of starting early by working for his family company, he stresses that ultimately it's about putting in the work and continuing to do so until you see results. Though it might not seem like a great time to try to raise money for a business, Josh says it's actually a good time to do so, especially for startups in the early stages. There's a lot of investment to be had for founders in this stage.  While not previously an avid reader, Josh now reads two books a week, saying it's important to learn from others as much as possible. Below are the four books Josh recommends for all entrepreneurs, noting that these cover the important areas that entrepreneurs should focus on: The Lean Startup: How Today's Entrepreneurs Use Continuous Innovation To Create Radically Successful Businesses, by Eric Ries The Titanic Effect: Successfully Navigating the Uncertainties That Sink Most Startups, by Tood Saxton, M. Kim Saxton, and Michael Cloran The $100 Startup: Reinvent the Way You Make a Living, Do What You Love, and Create a New Future, by Chris Guillebeau Secrets of Sand Hill Road: Venture Capital and How To Get It, by Scott Kupor  Links to Explore Further Convrtx Convrtx on LinkedIn Josh Adler on LinkedIn Convrtx on Facebook Keep In Touch Book or Blog or Twitter or LinkedIn or JSYPR Learn more about your ad choices. Derek gives us unique perspectives on wealth and success. He has a cool and unique background as a musician, successful entrepreneur, and happy minimalist. Episode 142: Author and entrepreneur, Derek Sivers describes his approach to living wealthy and happily whether earning a little or a lot. Guest Biography Derek Sivers is an American writer, musician, programmer and entrepreneur best known for being the founder and former president of CD Baby. More than anything, he wants to make lots of stuff. Derek enjoys working alone for 12 hours a day/6 days a week in his pursuit of making articles, books, websites, music, companies, systems, apps, and especially new ideas. He is known for saying no to almost everything so he can have lots of time for making. At the age of 14, Derek decided to be a successful musician. He was single-focused obsessed on this from the age of 14 to 29, waking up early to practice, staying up late to write, saying no to all distractions, and reading whatever he could to improve. At age 29, Derek "accidentally" started the company CD Baby that helped his musician friends sell CDs online which eventually became the largest seller of independent music on the Internet. In 2008, he sold the company; and as 100 percent owner, he utilized a strategy to donate the proceeds of $22 million to charity. Derek continues to learn lots of stuff, especially different approaches to thinking and living. He finds inspiration in reading non-fiction, living in many places around the world, and cutting out most things that most normal people do — like hanging out, watching TV, and partying. His writing, thoughts, and book notes can be found at www.sivers.org. In this episode, you'll learn: The difference between living a highly focused life vs making time to ponder and think. Interesting thoughts on money, wealth, and defining what's enough. Great book recommendations on the topic of money. What Everyone Needs to Know About Money but is Afraid to Ask: In this episode of The Future Focused Podcast I tackle a topic many are uncomfortable discussing, money. There are so many misconceptions and misunderstandings about money. Money is one of the areas in our life that we have the most control over, but do so little about. Why? Because most people are either afraid to ask questions in fear of looking dumb, or pretend they have it all figured out. I am clearly not a millionaire, nor am I a financial advisor, but I have learned quite a bit that has brought me success and helped me to avoid some real dangers. Listen, this is a topic where we all need to learn from each other. I provide over a dozen tips to help you improve yourself financially. These are steps I have taken and had success with in my life. I know if applied they will bring you similar results. There are things you can be doing, that are very simple, that will give you an incredible edge in life. No one is telling you to do these things, or you don't know how to start. Listen to this podcast. Being financially fit is an area everyone needs to work on. I hope you enjoy this episode.   In this episode we look at the ripple effect of the young Waffle House hero here in Nashville. It seems that good deeds lead to good coming your way. How can we plug in that principle in our own lives? Episode #612 May 18, 2018 Hi, this is Dan Miller – and yes you're listening to the 48 Days Radio show – where each week we take 48 minutes to dive into real life questions about finding your passion, deciding what kind of life you want to live – and then finding or creating work that allows you to show up every day, excited to be able to do something that is meaningful, fulfilling – and profitable.  This is where normal, indecision and ambiguity come to die.  Welcome to the 48 Days Radio Show. Questions: 1. I've never liked a job I've had. 2.  My only dream is to become a housewife and have a side business 3. I'm in a situation and need out asap. My hands are swollen, achy and my thumb and index fingers are tender and bruised on the tips. 4. I lost a part of my soul just over 2 years ago when I was told I wasn't needed anymore after 30 years at the same place of employment.  More questions Quotation:   Give, and you will receive. Your gift will return to you in full—pressed down, shaken together to make room for more, running over, and poured into your lap. The amount you give will determine the amount you get back. She does this through her books, the weekly podcast, online classes, and her in-person workshops. She leads adventures for makers who want to explore your own definition of success! In this episode, Tara shares tips and strategies from her new book, Map Your Business a workbook of exercises designed to help you create your own personal blueprint to reach goals that are important to you, and how you can use it to define success, set goals and make a plan that you can stick with!  In this book, Tara takes an integrative approach, encouraging you to align your life and business, and she invites you to take a look at your progress each quarter to make sure you’re on track.  Episode highlights Tara created her own job instead of "a business." Don't just talk about it ... do it if that's what you want to do!  How there's a big difference between the planning stage and actually having started a business After you start, what's next. Now where do you go?  In 2009 Tara left her day job and made it known publicly. She shares why it's important to let the world know Her first class was a marketing path to help creative business owners How the Map Your Business book is not only for business, but how to "draw your universe" The map-making process that Tara shares can be applied to any part of your life The difference between a task and a project - and why understanding this difference is crucial to your success Why making a mindmap helps to understand things visually and in a linear way Why Map Your Business was created like a map and how it came from a series of pdf workbooks that she created for her students How the book helps you to assess your goals monthly and quarterly, and how to pivot if you need to Tara gives Kara advice about how to do a monthly review in her new business-- and explains that this is advice everyone can follow There isn't a "right way" to start a creative business, you need to find what's right for you Tara shares her biggest struggle - a combination of having unrealistic expectations and not getting derailed when things don't go right. Tara explains that there is a way to systematize the overwhelm - make a check list out of it  The power or making a daily list even if it feels redundant Why it's OK to give yourself permission to say NO to getting certain things done Why being a maker contributes to the quality of Tara's daily life and how knitting socks helps her to stay sane during car rides! English Paper Piecing #epp is another passion of Tara's. She loves it so much because this craft is portable much like knitting How replying to a tweet, led to her being featured in the book bestselling book, Crush It! by Gary Vaynerchuk  Before you think about the Etsy shop or marketing - you FIRST need to to create your product and spend time "practicing." Chris Guillebeau is a writer, traveler, and entrepreneur. In 2013 he completed a 10-year quest to visit every country in the world before his 35th birthday. Every summer in Portland, Oregon he hosts the World Domination Summit, a gathering of creative, remarkable people. His new book, “Born for This,” will help you find the work you were meant to do. In this episode, Chris and Stacy discuss building a business that truly fits the life you want to lead and some of the options that you have. You don’t need your business to reflect anyone’s ideals but your own! Some highlights include: “I was 19, and I didn’t want to work for anyone else.” At minute 1:00, Chris talks about jumping into entrepreneurship because he wanted to work but didn’t want a boss. He also talks about how his career has evolved since that time. People have different learning styles. At minute 8:00, Chris talks about why a formal mentorship might not be the best strategy for every person starting a business. Have a healthy life and do work you love doing. At minute 10:00, Chris talks about why work-life balance is a great thing to strive for but might not exist in exactly the ways we think of because the term has been co-opted by corporations. “I don’t have any desire to have a lot of employees.” At minute 15:00, Chris talks about why he keeps his team small and how they are able to put on World Domination Summit by adding a team for that event only. Welcome to episode #315 of Six Pixels Of Separation - The Twist Image Podcast. Julien Smith (co-author of Trust Agents with Chris Brogan and the author of The Flinch) was downright mad at me. We have lunch on a frequent basis and we're constantly slamming ideas and names at one another. It makes for a lively conversation. The other week, he was downright disgusted with me because I had never met Chris Guillebeau. Chris is the author of The Art Of Non-Conformity - Set Your Own Rules, Live The Life You Want And Change The World and the recently published, The $100 Startup - Reinvent the Way You Make a Living, Do What You Love, and Create a New Future, which became an instant bestseller. Along with that, he's the co-organizer of what is quickly becoming one of the "go to" events for those trying to create a remarkable life in a very conventional world called, World Domination Summit (which took place at the beginning of this month in Portland, Oregon). This idea of non-conformity and unconventionalism is a theme that binds Chris' life. He's about to turn 35 and complete his personal journey of visiting every country on earth (out of close to 200, he has a mere 8 to go). While he's never had a "day job," he seems to be doing just fine owning, operating and executing on many micro-businesses. He explains that his entrepreneurial history has ranged from importing coffee from Jamaica, search engine optimization in its early days, Google Adwords and Adsense arbitrage, to building a small publishing company while volunteering in Africa. He now writes and sells a product he calls, Unconventional Guides. Simply put, he's a fascinating individuals with many business lessons that we could all learn from. Enjoy the conversation...
