In the first episode of a special On Aon mini-series on the 2026 Human Capital Trends study, Aon's Human Capital leaders outline a clear leadership challenge: AI is scaling fast, but the value it delivers is determined by how effectively organizations prepare their people to use it. The discussion moves beyond adoption to focus on aligning AI to business priorities, redesigning work and equipping leaders to translate capability into sustained growth. Key Takeaways: AI investment is ahead of workforce readiness, leaving unrealized value. Organizations that stay ahead are closing this gap by prioritizing capability-building alongside deployment. Delivering value from AI requires shifting focus from activity to outcomes. Measuring success through productivity, decision-making and business impact is critical to unlocking return on investment. Advantage comes from redesigning work, not just scaling tools. Embedding AI into critical workflows and aligning incentives, leadership and skills is what enables durable growth. Experts in this episode: Byron Beebe, CEO of Human Capital, Aon Amanda Scott, Head of Talent Solutions, North America, Aon Marinus Van Driel, Partner, Workforce Transformation Advisory, North America, Aon Key Resources: 2026 Human Capital Trends Study Key Moments: (00:45) AI adoption has accelerated across organizations, but workforce readiness is lagging, creating a gap between deployment and impact (04:20) Why moving too quickly on technology without building capability leads to stalled return on investment and slower adoption (13:00) How AI is reshaping the future of work, driving more fluid, skills-based roles and integrated ways of working Soundbites: Byron Beebe: “I really think it's the people using AI to do jobs better or to enhance what they can accomplish for customers of a business. Those are the people that are going to win.” Amanda Scott: “AI is no longer a technology story; it's a people story.” Marinus Van Driel: “What we're seeing is most organizations are scaling their tools, but very few are redesigning their work. So, most of them are in that foundation or that developing stage. And then I think that the question that's emerging from all of this that I think all leaders will have to grapple with in the near future is we can have AI do this work, but should we have AI do this work.”

AI salaries in Singapore are rising up to five times faster than the overall wage growth. Within the past year, pay for AI roles has climbed by about 15 to 25 per cent, with fresh hires typically starting from between $70,000 and $90,000 a year. That compares with overall wage growth of 4.9 per cent in 2025, down from 5.6 per cent the year before. Yet at the same time, major tech firms and global banks are restructuring and cutting jobs, often citing AI as a key reason. So what's really driving this surge in AI salaries? Could it start reshaping wage expectations across the wider workforce? And does the promise of AI justify the growing number of layoffs we're seeing? On The Big Story, Hongbin Jeong speaks to Rahul Chawla, Partner and Head of Talent Solutions for Southeast Asia at Aon to find out more.See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

Navigating Talent Optimization: Strategic Staffing and Leadership with Robert HowardIn this episode of The Thoughtful Entrepreneur Podcast, host Josh Elledge speaks with Robert Howard, Director of Recruiting Operations and Executive Leadership Coach at Magic Talent Solutions, about the evolving complexities of the modern workforce. As a military veteran and seasoned business owner, Robert brings a unique perspective to the high-stakes world of recruitment, offering deep dives into bridging staffing gaps and upskilling internal teams. This conversation serves as a strategic guide for founders and executives who are navigating the post-pandemic market correction and seeking to balance the efficiency of AI with the irreplaceable value of human judgment in leadership.Optimizing the Human Element in Modern RecruitmentThe current recruiting landscape requires a sophisticated blend of agility and specialized expertise to overcome the "ebb and flow" of market demands. Robert observes that while many organizations surged with over-hiring in previous years, 2026 is defined by stabilization and a more project-based approach to talent acquisition. For companies struggling with mission-critical, hard-to-fill roles, the solution often lies in moving beyond basic job postings toward advanced sourcing strategies that identify passive talent. By aligning staffing levels with specific project needs and maintaining a flexible workforce of both full-time and contract professionals, businesses can protect their bottom line while ensuring they have the right hands on deck for every initiative.Transitioning from an individual contributor to a leadership role remains one of the most common stumbling blocks for growing enterprises. Robert emphasizes that effective leadership development is not a "one-size-fits-all" endeavor; it requires tailored coaching that draws on proven principles of communication and accountability. Many companies find their internal recruiting teams are comprised of junior staff who lack the nuance required for high-level interviewing or the deep understanding of complex employment laws, such as those specific to California. Upskilling these internal teams through hands-on training ensures that the first point of contact for new talent is professional, compliant, and capable of identifying the subtle cultural fits that drive long-term retention. The integration of AI in recruitment offers significant efficiency gains, but it also introduces new risks regarding bias and candidate experience. While AI excels at administrative heavy lifting—such as interview scheduling and bulk follow-ups—Robert cautions that it is not yet a reliable substitute for human intuition in the final selection process. Relying solely on algorithms for candidate screening can lead to unintentional bias and even legal complications. Successful organizations use AI as a tool to free up their human recruiters for high-value relationship building, ensuring that the final "yes" is always determined by a person who can sense the intangible qualities that make a candidate truly exceptional for a specific team.About Robert HowardRobert Howard is the Director of Recruiting Operations at Magic Talent Solutions and a dedicated Executive Leadership Coach. With a background rooted in military service and entrepreneurial leadership, he specializes in identifying talent patterns and helping organizations build high-performing teams. Robert is passionate about professional development, often using his experience as an escape room enthusiast to teach the principles of collaborative problem-solving and strengths-based task management.About Magic Talent SolutionsMagic Talent Solutions is a premier staffing and consultancy firm founded to help businesses navigate the shifting talent landscape. The company provides a holistic approach to people operations, offering specialized recruiting for Biotech, Marketing, and Commercial Sales, alongside internal team training and executive leadership coaching. By investing in the training of internal teams and maintaining a human-centric approach to leadership, organizations can build a resilient culture that attracts and retains the best in their industry.More from The Thoughtful Entrepreneur

There are calls for more investment for graduates as confidence hits a new low. Talent Solutions' annual survey reveals only 19% of university students feel very confident about their job prospects. Just over half were concerned about competition for early talent roles, while 40% believe there are fewer roles to apply for. PUBLIC SPEAKING TIPS FOR NEWBIES: HOW TO DELIVER YOUR BEST RECFEST TALK Once upon a time, I too was also a reluctant public speaker. In fact, I did not even see the point of attending industry conferences - after all, what did I have to say, what did I have to learn? I am very glad that I accepted the invitation of one Mr Stephen Donaldson to give a talk at one of his events, Bill Boorman, who set up the first (ur) conference I really attended and Sarah Cooper, who by turning up at the door at the same time persuaded me to 'walk in' rather than walk by. No question: life and career changing - all for the better, as confidence, network, learning and profile have all up levelled. No exaggeration to say that Brainfood would not be here were it not for those early events. I'm keen for others to have the similar opportunity, so hence we're going to do a Brainfood Live on the topic of Public Speaking - in particular, how to get good at it. We're assembling an all star cast of industry professionals who are experienced on stage speakers and trainers. - What do they know about public speaking that others do not? - What are the expected feelings prior to the presentation? - How to build a presentation to enable best delivery? - What is the best method to control nerves? - How can a person who is introverted and hates performance, get better at public speaking? - How body language techniques do we need to know? - Can breathing techniques help? - What makes a memorable talk? - How to make sure you are psychologically level during the presentation? - How do I deliver the best Recfest Talk next week? We're with Akbar Karenga, Founder (Maarusi), Sam Berthoud, VP of Talent Solutions (hackajob), Angela Cripps, MD (Recruitment Gym), Christina Robinson, Founder (Green Umbrella), Bill Boorman, Founder (TRU) & friends Ep263 is sponsored by our buddies The Recruitment Events Co Recruitment Events Company run the No1 Festival for Recruiters - now in Knebworth AND in Nashville, Tennessee. This week's episode of Masters of MAX features Tom Butta interviewing Alexis Baird, the Head of Product Experience at Thumbtack. Alexis shares her journey from linguistics and computer science to product management roles at Microsoft, LinkedIn, and Lyft. At Thumbtack, she leads innovations that connect homeowners with home service professionals.Today's focus is all about redesigns. Alexis and the team at Thumbtack recently launched an extensive redesign to expand their offerings beyond hiring professionals to provide their users a single app for all of their home needs. Alexis underscores the critical need for a personalized, user-centric approach, explaining how Thumbtack tailored their app to meet individual homeowner goals and house-specific needs, integrating tools like personalized guides and educational tidbits to boost user engagement. She discusses how the dev team was given a sandbox environment with a small percentage of customers and without traditional revenue targets, allowing for bold experimentation and significant advancements in user experience without the pressure of immediate financial returns. The overarching theme of the episode revolves around executing a successful redesign. Alexis advises maintaining flexibility, refining hypotheses with careful analysis, and creating a cross-functional team encompassing design, engineering, marketing and more. By aligning a long-term vision with short-term iterative goals, and ensuring continuous feedback loops, Thumbtack was able to deliver a significantly enhanced product that better serves their customers' evolving needs.—Guest BioAlexis has been working on products for the past 13 years, looking at the world through her customer's eyes, to build features that make a real impact for them. She is currently leading the customer experience and growth product teams as Head of Product Experience at Thumbtack. Before her current role, she spent almost three years at Lyft, first as a Product Manager before she was promoted to Head of Product. In this role, she first focused on rider experience and later, Lyft Healthcare which included their concierge products. She has also worked as a Senior and Group Product Manager at LinkedIn. She worked on the Talent Solutions, Content, Slideshare as well as LinkedIn Profiles teams. Her first product position was as a Product Manager for the Captions Metrics team at Microsoft Bing.—Guest Quote"One of the big misconceptions is that you do a big launch and you just kind of disappear. I've been part of redesigns in other lives, and you almost never get it right the first time or the second time or the third time.
