This week we investigate the growing trend of PTO marketplaces, where 10% of companies now allow employees to buy, sell, and even gift vacation days. From Ben bribing his boss with three PTO days before a performance review to employees purchasing extra time to care for aging parents, we explore whether these programs offer genuine flexibility or just another way for companies to offload responsibility. Are these exchanges the next evolution beyond unlimited PTO, or simply a clever accounting trick to remove vacation liabilities from the balance sheet? "Well honey, the engine's about to stop running..." is NOT a conversation you want to have at 5,000 feet. In this episode full of real-talk about fuel management, our midlife pilots share their close calls and lessons learned. From Ben's accidental "skywriting" performance (thanks to one loose screw) to his sweaty-palms moments watching those notoriously unreliable Cessna fuel gauges, the crew digs into why "it's always fuel" became their go-to accident theory. Ben had a great time talking to Kevin Curran and Mike Munro—two legends of the incredible and underrated Boston power thrash metal scene of the 1980s and 1990s. They talk about the brotherhood and musical vision behind their new super group Kingdom of Tyrants and the band's absolutely phenomenal debut album “Architects of Power.” From Ben's signature metal gushry LOL to deep dives into song development and Mike's vocal arrangements, this interview covers a lot of ground. Rather than proceed in any canned linear way, we talk about Mike's artistic development since his last record with Meliah Rage, the tour de force "Masquerade." We also explore the importance of history in Kevin's approach to song lyrics and how the timeless themes of the Guilded Age created connective tissue between each of "Architects of Power" nine tracks, including the mythological lessons of "Daedalus" and the album's epic "Ghosts of Industry." We also hear from the band's manager and videographer par excellence, Rudy Childs! Exploring the early origins of Steel Assassin and Mike's early band Speed Limit, some great stories and laughs are shared as they drink brews and talk metal past and present. Samples of songs on this episode appear in this order: Introduction: Daedalus (from Architects of Power by Kingdom of Tyrants) II. History Will Tell (from Masquerade by Meliah Rage) III. While most Americans were celebrating America's birthday on the 4th of July, the New York Times and other leftists used Independence Day to bash America. It turns out that privileged, elitist liberals just love to rant on how bad America is. From Ben and Jerry's Ice Cream to WNBA players to Democrat officials, there were plenty of comments regarding the shortcomings of America. But, these people aren't blind or ignorant. This is all part of the marxist agenda to destroy this country and our freedom. #BobbyEberle #AmericaBashing #AngryLeft

For many seasons of her life, Ale struggled with toxic shame, self hatred, and powerlessness, causing her struggle to be who she really was. Eventually, she began a journey of pursuing healing for herself through discovering the love of the Father. Through many moments of extraordinary breakthrough, and a beautiful process of walking it out, she was able to step out of her shame and fear, and into a space of infinite possibility and true peace. After she experienced so much breakthrough, it became her desire to help others encounter the same freedom. Fourteen years ago, she started informally meeting with people, especially younger girls, and started noticing people having similar breakthroughs. Since then, Ale has been coaching individuals as they navigate the challenges of personal growth. She has been able to do this as a financial coach, in non-profits, in the private sector, and in faith-based communities. Today, Ale has a passion for helping people find what drives them, overcome their core fears, and thrive in their own story. About Ben: ADVOCATING, TEACHING, OFFICIATING Ben grew up in a suburb of Denver, Colorado. After high school, he moved to Costa Rica with a rough plan of opening a surf cafe and no real timeline for returning to the US. While visiting neighboring Guatemala and Nicaragua, Ben's plans changed when he encountered children living in devastating poverty. A journey that was headed toward escaping life's challenges was re-routed toward confronting difficult issues in our world head-on through learning, volunteering, and personal healing. Many years after those transformative moments in Latin America, Ben still works to bring healing to human hearts, the pivotal building block of the world we all imagine. Now, in New York City, Ben is a dedicated advocate for emotional healing and mental health. His own life has transformed as he has pursued healing for himself, but he believes that while all of our roads are unique, there are breakthrough doorways into true freedom and joy for each of us. Humbly, Ben is passionate about helping individuals find the doorways to their breakthrough. Website: a-b.community @between_a_and_b @ale_siekmeier @ben_siekmeier Produced by On Air with Q

The Ashlee and Jessicast is expanding! Your beloved Ashlee & Jessica Simpson content will still be coming in droves, but there are so many other pop culture topics I would like to cover too. This week, I dove into one of the most talked about couples of all time: Ben Affleck & Jennifer Lopez. This first part focuses on the background of the original 2001-2004 Bennifer. What were they like before they met and what impression did they make on the public that lead to such a ridiculous, delicious, tabloid-ridden messy frenzy. From Ben's insane very public gestures to a still-married JLo to Jen's pre-Ben sensational love life, what they were known for early on and SO MUCH more... I present, A Bennifer Bonus. Grossman Marketing Group (https://grossmanmarketing.com/) was founded as Massachusetts Envelope Company in 1910 by Maxwell Grossman (https://www.bengrossman.info/), whose lifelong dream was to own his own business. Now, 111 years since its founding, Ben Grossman, along with his brother, David, are the 4th generation of family leadership. Today, the company is a full-service resource helping clients with a broad range of traditional and digital marketing needs. Ben Grossman holds a BA from Princeton University and an MBA from Columbia Business School. Prior to Columbia, Ben worked as a strategy consultant to Fortune 500 clients, as well as started and sold a sportswear and marketing firm. Ben is also deeply involved in sustainability and how it relates to business, and writes and speaks frequently on the topic. Standout Quotes: * "Our prices make friends and our service keeps them" - [Ben] * "What he was really saying was that life is made up 3 things; Family, Career, and Community, and education has always been of critical importance to our family" - [Ben] * "Find a way to generate revenue as soon as possible because numbers speak for themselves and no one will ever question your existence at the organization if you generate sales and gross profit" - [Ben] * "Learn the business, understand exactly what's going on in the business, so when you speak up you know what you're talking about, and you're right!" - [Ben] * "What our grandfather and our father tried to impart in us is that although business is incredibly important, nothing in business is important enough to ever risk jeopardizing your family relationships" - [Ben] * "That sort of value of just 'try and treat people the way you'd want your family to be treated' has been passed down from generation to generation" - [Ben] * "Regardless of how successful you are, or your family's been over the years, you need to recognize that markets can change and you must always remain responsive to customers' needs" - [Ben] * "Ultimately, we have to be willing to evolve because if we don't evolve, we will get left behind" - [Ben] * "Always do right, this will gratify some people and astonish the rest" - [Ben] Key Takeaways: * The company has always had a service-driven culture and this has kept the business going for over 110 years. * Ben explains that the company had initially started as an envelope company and had also bought up different companies during its growth, with the investment in promotional products being the most notable that boosted growth. * Following his education, Ben had decided to step out and gain some experience although he was passionate about finally going back to join the family business. * Ben explains that based on lessons from his great grandfather, Life is made up of 3 things, Family, Career, and Community. Education has always been of critical importance to the family. * The "Start, Stop, Continue" Review Method: Ben had asked workers to review the company's methods to identify processes that needed to be implemented, stopped, or continued for better productivity. * Ben shares that following political engagements, his father moved on from the family business and is fully engaged in public service. He adds that working harmoniously with his brother is aided by the understanding that every win is for the company and not the individual, and also their roles tend to be complementary to each other. * Understanding that it was necessary to establish credibility by generating profits immediately after joining the family business, Ben reached out to some prospects and started to achieve his goal within a month. * One of the critical values imparted by their grandfather was the understanding that business should never jeopardize family relationships. * Another key value learned was the importance of treating colleagues the way family would be treated in a workplace. * You need to be willing to adapt to ever-changing business environments and conditions. Ben remembers how the family had always focused on the customer, and that what differentiated their company was the incredible customer service. * Highlighting the involvements of different family members in service to the community, Ben explains that service to the community is one of the values that have been passed down each generation beginning from the Founder. * Considering the future, the most meaningful investment made in recent times has been expanding into e-commerce. * Ben shares he would give his children the same advice he got from his grandparents regarding joining the business, and this is to do what their heart wants to do, follow their career path, and not be constrained to join the business based on the financial implications. * From Ben to his kids: Always do right, this will gratify some people and astonish the rest Episode Timeline: * [00:49] Introducing today's guest Ben Grossman, and Grossman Marketing Group, the Massachusetts envelope company. * [01:40] The history of the Grossman family business. * [07:05] Ben narrates how he and his brother joined the business. * [11:52] As brothers, how do you get along and what roles do you each play today in the business? * [21:54] A listening tour: Using the "Start, Stop, Continue" Review Method. * [25:36] Do you have any apparent failures that have set you up for later success? * [32:15] Ben describes the family history of service to the community. * [37:58] Has the family been intentional about documenting its history? * [39:30] How do you pivot and evolve a marketing group like yours into the 21st century and beyond? * [43:43] Are you nurturing your children to be the 5th generation of the business or leaving it to them to find their path? * [48:35] A letter to Ben's Kids. The labyrinth of long-term care and long-term care insurance is a daunting one for most people. Unfortunately, many people haven't prepared for the unexpected or, in the case of older adults oftentimes the inevitable. Ben Rao's new book: Paying For Long Term Care, comes from his personal journey with his stepfather Tom and his years working in the senior year living industry. As Ben recounts his journey, it may sound like a familiar story, either your own or someone you know. While it may be a topic people prefer to avoid at all costs, or put off until they are in the throes of the situation, what they will find out is that the cost of doing so is too great. Ben lays out what people need to know in an organized and simple way that's easy to follow. Anyone who is over the age of 50, or has a family member or loved one who falls in that category, should definitely listen to what Ben shares in this episode. From Ben's information and his work in the senior services industry, the natural flow is the conversation with Wendy Rinehart, co founder and owner of Family Solutions for Care. A company dedicated to helping families. Wendy will explain the important components that people need to address when seeking long-term care insurance as well as what to do when they are in need of filing a claim. She will explain what she calls the 4 C's Contract – what to look for in the contract that may be 30-40 pages in length, including elimination periods. Claimant – has to be asking for and receiving the kinds of care the policy will pay for. Care Providers – all levels. Carrier – 200 carriers to 10. Wendy's knowledge and explanation of the long-term care insurance process is a real eye opener you won't want to miss.

In this episode I'm joined by author Ben Coates. Ben is a Brit and he's been in The Netherlands for about ten years - he previously wrote a book about his experiences here "Why the Dutch are Different" and he featured in an earlier podcast talking about that. This time he talks about his new book - The Rhine. The book starts in The Netherlands and follows the river Rhine all the way to its source in Switzerland. From Ben's site: "For five years, Ben Coates lived alongside a major channel of the river in Rotterdam, crossing it daily, swimming and sailing in its tributaries. In The Rhine, he sets out to follow the river for its entire course, through the Netherlands, Germany, France, Switzerland, Austria and Liechtenstein, to its source in the icy Alps. He explores the impact that the Rhine has had on European culture and history and finds out how influences have flowed along and across the river, shaping the people who live alongside it."Get The Rhine at Bol.comIf you like Here in Holland why not become a patron? Tune in! Benjamin chats about being a veteran... From Ben's page https://www.benjaminbreckheimer.com/bio : After medically retiring from the Army in 2013, Benjamin wanted to find a way to overcome his injuries, challenge himself and inspire others. He became interested in mountaineering....with the help of Mountain Gurus and Founder, Dennis Broadwell, he took part in a Mountaineering Expedition Leader Course on Mount Baker, Washington where he would learn the fundamental climbing skills needed to climb a mountain successfully with a guide. After a discouraging unsuccessful first summit attempt on Mt. Baker, he then attempted Mt. Rainier. He didn't let these first two defeats bring him down. He then set his sights on the first of the Seven Summits, Mt. Elbrus. When he reached his first summit of Mt. Elbrus, it fueled a fire that is leading him to become the first Purple Heart Recipient/Combat Wounded Veteran to climb the Seven Summits.Support the show (https://www.patreon.com/theprotectors)

This week we're extremely pleased to have Ben Seagren (DISTRIKT / The Show / BeatFreak Recordings / Wülfpack) delivering a guest mix of dark and dirty tech house. Ben's the co-creating of Space Cowboys' favorite Burning Man day-time tradition, DISTRIKT and The Deep End before that. This extremely rockin and generous original mix clocks in at over 100 minutes, and will carry you through the rest of the week on into your weekend. Enjoy! From Ben's bio: Ben Seagren’s tenure as a staple within the West Coast underground techno music scene for over a decade has heated up from en fuego to some serious hot and heavy street cred. As the appetite for underground house music experiences has become insatiable over the past few years, Seagren is usually behind the shenanigans of the best parties and bumping bass that graces venues and pounds dance floors as both a Producer/DJ and a mastermind event director. Holding capital as the Co-Founder and Music Director of DISTRIKT (read: THE daytime destination dance party on the playa at Burning Man) and a handful of highly respected residencies at premier San Francisco night clubs like Ruby Skye and The End Up the years, Seagren has recently expanded his horizons and taken on the scene in Los Angeles. In the short time he’s been in LA, he’s already organized, hosted and played some of the best underground parties of the year under the DISTRIKT label featuring well known genre artists like Alan Fitzpatrick to showcasing undiscovered local talents that have caught the attention of labels and listeners across the globe. Read more: http://www.benseagren.com/music/dj-biography/ You can find more of Ben Seagren through the following links: http://www.soundcloud.com/ben-seagren http://www.facebook.com/dj.ben.seagren2 http://www.beatport.com/artist/ben-seagren/365113
Ben Swann is an award winning journalist who is currently a prime time anchor on WXIX, the Fox affiliate in Cincinnati, OH. Ben is a rising star and touted by many as someone who will dominate "alternative media" in 2013 and beyond.Ben's weekly investigative piece, dubbed "Reality Check" attempts to go beyond the headlines of the biggest national stories and uncover the truth by giving his viewers the details that mainstream media is leaving out of their coverage. This segment far transcends his local viewing market and has earned Ben millions of YouTube views, and near 100,000 Facebook fans (or likes) on his two combined pages. From Ben's own Facebook page: National media has become so busy pushing an agenda they seem to forget the primary role of media is to hold those in power in check. My hope is that is what "Reality Check" will not only accomplish but will inspire in other journalists. In Ben's budding career, he has won an Edward R Murrow award for Investigative Journalism and a Lone Star Emmy award in 2005. Although highly sought after by cable news and national network news, Ben has decided to take his own path and use his grassroots fan base to crowd-source an investigative journalism and alternative media project. More details will be available for this project will be available in June of 2013. Ben's official website is http://benswann.com and his main Facebook page is http://facebook.com/benswannrealitycheck.com
