Rachel Eckroth and John Hadfield are wonderfully inventive musicians who have formed a duo. This podcast episode is shining a light on their recently released album “Speaking in Tongues”and you'll hear some of this textured and dynamic music that really pushes the boundaries of a duo, along with insights into their creative process and their varied career paths. John Hadfield is a phenomenal percussionist, drummer, and composer, for many years based in New York and now based in Paris. He's collaborated on over 100 recordings including Grammy-award winning albums. He talked to me about performing with Kenny Werner, with Yo-Yo Ma and the Silkroad Ensemble, as well as John's Paris Quartet. Rachel Eckroth was nominated for a GRAMMY for her album “The Garden” and she is very active as a keyboardist, vocalist, composer, producer and arranger. She tours currently with St. Vincent, and she talked to me about her keyboards, and some of her formative experiences. Both Rachel and John love to explore new sound colours both acoustically and with electronic instruments and this album is a powerful, inventive and immersive listening experience. Our first guest is a very familiar voice to our dedicated FF&C's fans, as our own Gene Blum updated us on all the goings-on at Tranquility Brewing Company. You may not know this, but Tranquility Brewing is located inside the former training facility for astronauts, so if you're looking to dress up for their upcoming Halloween celebration--you may bring home the top prize if you attend as one. And if you're looking to have some fun while giving back to a great cause, check out Tranquility Brewing's website as they host numerous events--some of which include FUNdraising celebrations. Speaking of which, they're amping up for their barrel-aged, whisky-infused Cider and Oktoberfest Beer which coincides with Tranquility's Oktoberfest Party! Don't worry, you needn't miss the festivities, as they're happening this Sunday (October 15th) at the Brewery! We know from old commercials that, "Beef. It's what's for dinner," and our next guest is doing just that. Rachel Sickler and her husband had the farming bug, and began to farm as a young couple. Both Rachel and her husband have ties to the farming industry, albeit one more loosely related than the other--but farming was a passion for the duo. So when an opportunity arose for David and his brother to purchase a farm, they did. A few years later, Rachel and David took over as sole owners of the farm, and renamed it as Sickler's Circle View Farm. Then in June of 2019. Rachel and David saw an immediate need for proteins, so the pair began offering livestock farming so meat could be much more accessible to the community and its surrounding neighborhoods.Take in the breath-taking views as we explore just why "Virginia is for lovers." Our last guest, Dorothy McIntyre, began Forest Farmers Market after she and her husband found themselves in a fresh-food desert. Having moved from New York to Virginia was a challenge, however, waking up and not having an opportunity for fresh produce can be extremely frustrating--this is why McIntyre grew weary of the 2+ hour drive to shop at the "local" farmer's market. So armed with a desire for quality ingredients, and with a goading husband's comment, McIntyre contacted her local government and advocated to establish a Farmer's Market. Eleven vendors later, the market was a huge hit, and grew to host over 40 vendors today--including three or four original vendors. Now, Dorothy's Forest Farmer's Market inspired her to establish another new one, named Moneta Farmer's Market in Smith Mountain Lake, VA. Want to know more? Then stay tuned thru the whole show to find out what to look forward to when you visit!

We often hear that marriage is work—once the honeymoon phase is over, of course. And it's true; marriage does require some adjustments and compromises. But what about the things that happened before marriage? The situations that may have taken place years ago, but the repercussions of which are still creeping into your union? Co-hosts Darlene Brock and Julie Bender are joined by Grit and Grace Life writer Rachel Hagstrom to talk about how to unpack the baggage in your marriage. Both Rachel and her husband experienced separate traumatic events that slowly began chipping away at the foundation of their union. In this episode, she speaks to the importance of marriage counseling, grieving the pain you may have caused one another, and confronting the triggers that threaten your relationship. It was only when Rachel and her husband faced their past head on that they were able to revive the love that brought them together and the stability to keep it that way. Rachel Hagstrom is married to her favorite veteran (Go Army!) of 14 years, and is a mom to two spirited daughters and one kind goldendoodle. After years of struggling with health challenges, she decided to do her own research and make changes to take a more proactive approach toward her well-being. Now as a board-certified health and wellness coach, Rachel is passionate about walking alongside other women who seek opportunities for growth, healing, and transformation in their daily lives. When she's not coaching, you'll find her writing, reading, and spending time outdoors (most preferably next to the ocean, which only exists in her mind now that she lives in Dallas!) In this episode, she speaks to the importance of marriage counseling, grieving the pain you may have caused one another, and confronting the triggers that threaten your relationship. When she's not coaching, you'll find her writing, reading, and spending time outdoors (most preferably next to the ocean, which only exists in her mind now that she lives in Dallas!) The story of Rachel & Kyle Schulte joins us for In Swine Versation. We discuss each of their backgrounds in the industry, how they met at the The Maschhoffs through the fine details of firsts dates and how other couples also met and got married through The Maschhoffs. We discuss how they live on Rachel's family farm, what a typical day looks like for them. We learn about Applewood Farms and Kyle's perspective on finding himself in the middle between research and practical application. We learn about how the couple is famous for receiving Pig gigs/trinkets and where you can find them through the house. We wrap on asking One defining moment on the Farm, whether it adversity, success, or promise. About our guests Kyle and Rachel Schulte live on their family farm in Central Illinois. Kyle is a production manager for Applewood Farms, a 14,000 sow internally multiplied farrow-to-wean operation, while Rachel is a swine veterinarian for pork producers throughout the Midwest. Kyle and Rachel first met at The Maschhoffs, where Kyle was managing the Genetic Testing Center, and Rachel was interning in the Research and Innovation Department. Rachel was impressed by Kyle's paint can juggling skills, as well as his positive outlook in the face of a lot of hard work. At that point, Rachel had just graduated with her Animal Science degree from Texas A&M University, and was headed off to Iowa State for her DVM, so Kyle requested a transfer to north-central Iowa to work as a Senior Field Advisor. He then worked in technical services for Ralco, formulating diets and managing their research farm. Both Rachel and Kyle grew up on their family's grain and livestock farms and knew that they wanted that type of upbringing for their children. So in 2019, they moved back to Rachel's family farm in central Illinois. As for what's next, they think the future is full of opportunities, and they feel ready to tackle the many things that are sure to come next.

In today's episode our host Mon speaks with Brisbane based Mumma, Rachel Ownsworth about her motherhood experience. After a straightforward conception journey Rachel envisioned the rest of her pregnancy to take the same path; however at 14 weeks she found herself in the emergency department after experiencing excruciating pain in her abdomen which was found to be appendicitis. After an uncomplicated procedure to remove her appendix Rachel was discharged home only to find herself being remitted with a serious wound infection that put both herself and her baby at extreme risk. With her partner being away until 36 weeks for work this added additional stresses to her pregnancy with the thought that he may not make it to the birth due to covid restrictions. After hesitation, Rachel found herself booked in for an induction where her labour took a turn and baby Hugo was born via an emergency caesarean. Rachel opens up to us about the real and raw emotions she has surrounding her birth as it was not what she had ever imagined. Both Rachel and I hope that if you to have experienced negative emotions surrounding your birth that these feelings are validated and that you are not alone. Please welcome Rachel. I go down relationship lane with relationship expert, speaker, and TV personality, Rachel DeAlto, a dear friend from my past life as a talk show host. Together, we unpack why humanity is wired for connection and how to navigate the dating landscape from an embodied place. There is no denying that the journey to finding divine partnership is challenging. Both Rachel and I connect over the origins of our spiritual evolution and acutely painful dissolutions of long-term relationships that propelled us to go inward to call in the relationships we truly desired. It took me years of spiritually purging and nearly five years of celibacy to arrive at this destination. Along the way, there were plenty of red flags, dangling carrots, and lessons learned – more on all of that in the episode. Love doesn't work with our set timelines. Trust in divine timing, coupled with the personal work, and a drop of magic, is what gets us to the finish line. Moving away from "I want" to "I receive" is a process that's easier said than done, but knowing you're not alone can help soften the hardships of the voyage. So how do we fill the beautifully sacred space in between? Or make peace with those past connections that left scar tissue? Are there ways to quell social anxiety to get back into the dating world with intention? Rachel shares her insights and answers your burning questions in this expansive conversation that will fill your cup with gratitude for love, singledom, and even those past sticky "situationships" that shaped the person you are today. The Ceremonial Offering Join us for a hypnotic cleansing ceremony where you'll observe your heart and fill it with pure source energy to heal, before radiating your inner light out onto the world around you. I boarded the Celebrity Cruise ship, Equinox, on the pier in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, with my cabin-roomie, Siobhan – that I featured in the latest episode. My name is Palle Bo. Welcome back to all new episodes of The Radio Vagabond. This is Season 7, episode 206, and today we're going to St. Croix – one of the US Virgin Islands. CRUISING IN A PANDEMIC This episode is recorded just a few days ago, as cruising is starting up again after the pandemic. And they are taking so many precautions for our safety. As we all know (from the beginning of the pandemic), a cruise ship is not the best place to be if there's a Coronavirus outbreak. They require that all passengers are fully vaccinated, and on top of that, we all need to have a Covid test to board. Plus, they are sailing with less than half as many passengers as they have the capacity for. Also, as I mentioned in the latest episode a few days ago, they changed the itinerary, and then at some ports, we're only allowed to leave the ship on port days if we go on one of their excursions. Everything is to prevent any cases of Covid on the ship. So, we're probably relatively safe – and thank God (even though it could make this podcast go viral). WELCOME TO SAINT CROIX As we set foot on land at the first stop on the cruise, we're greeted by local dancers, a DJ, and some guys on stilts. It's a special place for me as a Dane because the US Virgin Islands used to be a part of my home country, Denmark. But let's start with seven facts about where we are: 1. YOU STILL SEE A BIT OF DENMARK HERE Up until March 1917, they were called the Danish West Indies, and still, there is a lot of Danish history here. Like location names. The street sign in Kings Street also has the Danish name Kongensgade. There's also a Kirkegade (Church Street). Today, I'm visiting Frederiksted and Christiansted – also very typical names for Danish kings. 2. A VERY BIG REAL ESTATE DEAL Denmark sold the islands for 25 million USD in gold (around 554 million USD in current money). Someone might call it "a very big real estate deal"... 3. THE CAPITAL IS NOT ON THE BIGGEST ISLAND St. Croix is the largest of the islands in the territory. But the capital, Charlotte Amalie, is located on St. Thomas. 4. THE LAST VIRGIN Most people know that there are three main US Virgin Islands, but not that many years ago, a fourth was added: tiny Water Island, located off the coast of St. Thomas. And it is tiny – less than one square mile (around two square kilometres), and the USA bought it for a cool $10,000, making it what locals playfully call "The Last Virgin." 5. HALF OF THE POPULATION IS ON SAINT CROIX The population of St. Croix is a bit more than 50,000 – almost half of the populations on the islands. 6. AN ISLAND WITH A LITTLE MOUNTAIN The highest point of St. Croix is Mount Eagle, at 355 meters (1,165 ft). 7. TWO CITIES GAVE IT THE NICKNAME St. Croix's nickname is "Twin City", for its two towns, Frederiksted on the western end (where we dock with the cruise) and the bigger, Christiansted, on the northeast part of the island (where I'm going later today). ONE COFFEE AND TWO CHATS, PLEASE I start my day in Frederiksted, before I go on a tour in Christiansted. I went to a coffee shop for some coffee and better Wi-Fi than what is available on the ship. After walking around the city, I ended up in a place called Polly's at the Pier. I got chatting with the owner, Susan. She tells me that she's from Colorado and came here to the island looking for a warm place to retire. And then she ended up buying the coffee shop in the middle of the pandemic. In my conversation with her, she confirms that there is a thing called "island time" here, and you do get a bit of Island fever. But Susan likes it here and have no plans of leaving anytime soon. We're sitting in the courtyard behind the café with chickens running around us. And there's also a place where you can rent a bicycle. Here I meet Rebecca, who is she's born and raised here. Please have a listen to the episode to hear my conversation with these two women. Then you will also hear my alarm going off in the middle of the last chat – reminding me that it's time for me to get ready to go on the tour to Christiansted. CHRISTIANSTED AND THE TEN-DOLLAR MAN At the beginning of the walking tour, our guide goes into a 2-minute statement given to her by Celebrity Cruises. They asked her to read it to us, and it's all about the things we need to know about how to act when going on a walking tour in Covid-times. And guess what? We need to wash our hands, maintain social distancing, and always wear a mask. You know all the same things we've been hearing 200 million times in the last 18 months… But good to know that they are taking it seriously. OUR HEAVENLY TOURGUIDE Our guide is a slightly older woman with the wonderful name Heavenly Petersen. Yes, her first name is really Heavenly, and the last name is Petersen – which is a unique Danish way of spelling it. She confirms my suspicion that she has Danish ancestors, so I tell her that I'm from Denmark. And much to my surprise, I get no reaction. I was expecting a "wow, really" or "maybe we're related" or just a smile. But nothing. There was no reaction whatsoever – just a "good to meet you, sir" a few seconds later. So, I thought she might not have heard me, and I repeated myself: "My name is Palle, and I am from DENMARK". Again, nothing. I found it funny and slightly weird, and I still thought that she didn't hear it. But a bit later, I find out that she did. When we came to the entrance of the fort Christiansvern, there was a "Skillerhouse" outside. It's a little red human-size house that is uniquely Danish. It's where a soldier can stand in when it rains, and we have them outside the royal castle in Copenhagen, Amalienborg. And as I mention that to Heavenly, she shows me that she did hear that I was "the gentleman from Denmark". MY NAME IS ALEXANDER HAMILTON " How does a bastard, orphan, son of a whore and a Scotsman, dropped in the middle of a forgotten spot in the Caribbean by providence, impoverished in squalor, grow up to be a hero and a scholar?" These are words from the famous Broadway musical about Alexander Hamilton, and he grew up right here on St. Croix and later became one of the founding fathers of the United States – and got his face is on the ten-dollar bill. We walk inside fort Christiansvern and hear more about this man and his mother, Rachel Faucett Lavien, who spent time in a prison cell here. STORY OF HAMILTON AND HIS MOTHER RACHEL Inside Hamilton's mother's prison cell, which they call Rachel's Room, Heavenly Petersen tells me that Rachel was sent in jail with a push from her, John Michael Lavien, for having "flirtatious ways". But it might have been just a bit more than flirting. While she was married to Lavien, she and another man, Cronenberg, were caught in a bedroom, undressed and (as it said in the court documents) "with more circumstances that sufficiently demonstrated their shameless intercourse and scandalous life." So, this is why Lin-Manuel Miranda refers to Alexander Hamilton as a son of a whore in the hit musical. Both Rachel and Cronenberg ended up in jail for several months for their adultery. Rachel 6 months here in Christiansvern. Once released, Cronenberg was booted off the island and later showed up in St. Thomas. Rachel had to promise that she would go back to her husband and be very nice to him and do everything he told her to do. But she tricked him and left the island to go back to Nevis, another Caribbean Island in Saint Kitts and Nevis. Here she met Scotsman, James Hamilton, and they had two sons when she still was married to Lavien: James Hamilton Jr and one they named Alexander. Lavien asked for a divorce in 1759 when James Jr was six and Alexander was two years old – or maybe four – it's a bit uncertain when exactly he was born. When James Hamilton Sr. heard about her real husband asking for a divorce, he abandoned her. She was alone back here in Christiansted on St. Croix with the two boys, where she supported them by keeping a small store – now knowns as the Hamilton House. But not for long. She contracted yellow fever and died on February 19, 1768, leaving Alexander orphaned at 13 (or 11). NOT THROWING AWAY MY SHOT So, how does this bastard, orphan, son of a whore and a Scotsman become one of the Founding Fathers of the United States and the ten-dollar face? "He got a lot farther by working a lot harder. By being a lot smarter. By being a self-starter. And by fourteen, they placed him in charge of a trading charter. " Despite only being in his teenage years, he proved capable enough as a trader to be left in charge of the firm for five months while the owner was at sea. He was also an avid reader and later also a writer. He began to desire a life outside St. Croix. So, he was not throwing away his shots. For the rest of the history, go see the Hamilton musical on Broadway in New York… If you can get tickets. MUCH MORE TO DO ON SAINT CROIX THAN JUST HISTORY And if you come to St. Croix, you should go on a historical tour of this place even if you're not Danish. But there are 100 things to do on St. Croix. Adventure, arts and culture, food and drinks, scuba diving and water sports. Click the link and see a list of the 100 things to do. This was what I chose to do in the few hours I was here, but I might come back again and do some of the other 99. My name is Palle Bo, and I gotta keep moving. See you.

Over the last 30 years the agency business has seen some intense consolidation with holding company models. As our industry is coping with a second crisis a mere decade after the last one, do independent shops stand a chance or are they facing increasingly difficult odds to survive? Both Rachel and Shann started in independent agencies, and Rachel is even now launching her own, so clearly they both have hopes the independent spirit will prevail. But is it still the opportunity it once represented?

Meet our ELEVEN Australia EDU. Ambassadors Melvin Royce Lane and Rachel Vitullo, the powerhouse duo that help lead our education teams here in Australia and Internationally. Hear how Rachel grew from Apprentice to Salon Owner in one of Australia’s most prestigious salons through educating herself and discovering her love for educating others, and how Melvin’s love/hate relationship with hair drove his desire to work hard and create his own path in an industry he adores. Both Rachel and Melvin have an infectious charm and an unwavering commitment to education. They understand it is more than just telling people how to do a haircut, but sharing knowledge and continuing to learn and grow themselves.
Star Trek is one of Rachel's core fandoms, so it was really only a matter of time before Reel Deep Dive handled a film in this long-running franchise. Rachel chose Star Trek III: The Search For Spock, a film often seen as one of the weaker entries in the saga. Both Rachel and Ryan think that it's actually a pretty solid movie, so one of the discussion points is why Search For Spock is dismissed as frequently as it is. Other topics include the film's actor-centric direction, the dicey gambit of using death and resurrection as a plot point, the lo-fi charm of 80's lightning effects, the "Odd-Numbered Star Trek Curse", and how episodic film franchises had to structure themselves in the days before streaming took hold. Rachel and Ryan also speak about the difference between watching a long-awaited sequel in theaters and stumbling across it decades later on home video. --- This episode is sponsored by · Anchor: The easiest way to make a podcast. https://anchor.fm/app Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/ryan-valentine3/support

The Next Level welcomes Kiana Underwood! Kiana is the founder of Tulipina, an internationally renowned floral design studio that specializes in creating incredible experiences for luxury weddings and events. She is the author of the book, Color Me Floral, which covers the secrets of designing showstopping monochromatic arrangements for each season. Her work can be seen in numerous publications and she has sold out workshops all over the world. Rachel is a wonderful planner and designer from The Lake Como Wedding Planner based in Como, Italy. She not only works with clients directly but also has the pleasure of, as she says, morphing into the local team for many foreign companies such as planners in the states like Lisa Vorce on Chrissy Tegan and John Legend’s wedding and many others. Kiana and Rachel share many of the same views about making quick decisions before you can talk yourself out of them, having a clean slate when working with a client so that the design is unique, and the need to see the client's reactions to colors and places. Contrasting multi-day events so that each day is different and creating an experience from the moment you meet the prospective client. Andy and Kiana dive into a few of the noteworthy points of his interview with Rachel. Both Rachel and Kiana are strong women who have carved out a place in the event industry to excel in their respective careers. Listen in and discover what it takes to bring your visions to life and how to have the best people around you to make it happen. You won't want to miss this conversation if you're going to take your business to the next level. Show Highlights: [01:01] Kiana, welcome to the show! [02:58] They discuss Rachel's ability to leap and do things very quickly and take risks. [03:39] It's better to act soon instead of overthinking and not doing anything because of fear. [05:16] Kiana agrees with Rachel about wanting to start from a clean slate, no client pictures of weddings they’ve seen elsewhere. [06:41] They like to see the client's reactions to colors and style. [07:44] Rachel wants to create contrasting events, in a multi-day event, and Kiana agrees because otherwise, the event can get boring. [09:11] Experiences for clients start with planning their visit beginning from when they arrive at the airport. [10:34] Each event is an opportunity to create and use photos taken to enhance your portfolio. [12:05] Purposely getting different photographers for each venue so that the pictures are diverse and seen with a different eye. [13:36] Kiana brings her photographers to events so that they will focus on her floral designs. [16:18] Having people on your team who know different languages is an advantage when doing destination weddings. [17:05] Kiana says that Rachel is a strong woman who is easy-going and fun. Every February, Conscious Discipline hosts the Advanced Institute, also known as CD2. CD2 is limited to 48 participants. During this transformative week, each participant presents a ten-minute session on how they’re implementing Conscious Discipline and the results they’ve seen. In this episode, you’ll listen in on CD2 presentations from Rachel Frasier and Alissa McGraw. Rachel is a dance specialist at a magnet school in Raleigh, North Carolina. Alissa teaches fourth grade at Palm City Elementary in Palm City, Florida, where she was once the only teacher implementing Conscious Discipline. Both Rachel and Alissa share insight into their implementation, as well as powerful examples of how they’ve used Conscious Discipline to transform the lives of children. Essential Takeaways Children who exhibit behaviors labeled “attention-seeking” are searching for connection. Instead of responding by isolating the child or removing them from the room, make a conscious effort to consistently connect with the child. Helpful activities can include visuals, daily commitments, and ensuring that the child “has a person” they can go to at the school. Be the change you want to see. Even if you’re the lone teacher implementing Conscious Discipline at your school, keep doing what is best for children. Other teachers will notice, and interest will grow. Steps for Tomorrow Shift your perception of “attention-seeking” behaviors and label them “connection-seeking” instead. Find a person for the child, and work on building connection. In Rachel’s case, the student met with her every morning to set a daily commitment and foster connection through activities like I Love You Rituals. Children who engage in physical behaviors or anxious behaviors (e.g. pulling their hair) need safety. When Alissa allowed her student to go to the Safe Place and/or to draw at her desk when she felt overwhelmed, the girl’s behaviors and life changed dramatically. Stay the course. Even if you’re the only teacher implementing Conscious Discipline at your school, don’t get discouraged. Alissa started her journey alone and now holds two monthly meetings for a group of 25 teachers implementing Conscious Discipline. Sexual Health within the Christian Faith Starting with a little background on Rachel, she is a psychotherapist who works with clients who have experienced trauma and in sexuality in general. When considering her certification, she has been certified through AASECT and is a part of the American Academy of Psychotherapists. Rachel has long been equal parts fascinated and troubled by the suppression of sexuality from the church, and she looks to bridge the gap between a healthy practice and expression of sexuality and faith. Dr. Beverly Dale is a Reverend and received her Doctor of Ministry from the Chicago Theological Seminary. She is also the founder of the Incarnation Institute for Sex & Faith, which has the mission of bringing a positive perception of sex for all involved. Both Rachel and Beverly wrote a book called Advancing Sexual Health for the Christian Client which will be released soon! And in this episode, they both discuss the needless negative stigma that surrounds sexuality from a church's perspective: both in doctrine as well as practice. They provide an analysis as well as solutions. Really impactful stuff that I know you'll get a lot out of! Listen along. Their New Book! They both wrote to give a resource to those who might be tied up with their Christian faith and yet are facing seemingly insurmountable sexual problems. The book is a major step towards providing solutions for the sort of sexual gridlock that may occur. And the book wasn't just designed with Christians in mind, but those who may have moved on from Christianity as well and are seeking sexual healing or are looking for answers to pressing questions. This is expanded upon in the talk where the distinction between a client's belief and their faith is clarified. Listen in for that! Deconstructing Belief They approach their clients through the lens of showing that beliefs are separate from experience. Because the church teaches certain principles and gives commandments, a lot of time clients tend to equate the commandments with the faith experience, and both Beverly and Rachel are working diligently to shift perceptions. Without being able to separate belief from experience, healing in the sexual realm is much more difficult. Reconstructing the Christian Narrative Those with the most power tend to write history. And as Beverly states about the many forms of the Christian narrative and practice during the heyday of the Greco-Romans, Christianity used to be much more sexually oriented and positive. But because bodies were not as central to the Greco-Roman zeitgeist, conformity to a much less inclusive version of Christianity was a result. Beverly and Rachel look to remind people that the Christianity we have today is much different than it used to be. And in fact, one of the reasons that Jesus was so radical at the time was that he didn't conform to the misogynistic culture of the Romans. A really interesting look into history. Check them out! Impacts of the Church's Sexual Negativity The most common, which most of us have experienced, is sexual shame or guilt. And a lot of the work that Rachel and Beverly do is provide examples of how shame cycles and negatively impact lives. In addition, they aren't spiritual advisors, they just add the necessary disruption to the normal narrative, meaning that clients are left with a little bit of cognitive dissonance on the whole subject of sexuality and the church instead of just adhering to the rules without analysis. Problematic sexual behaviors are discussed as well, especially for our youth. What often happens with the church is that young people are not given the information they need, and they spiral into porn addiction or shame and guilt that could have been prevented had they been properly sexually educated. Really listen along to this important information. A 4-Part Process for Sexual Shame and Guilt Rachel and Beverly utilize the theologian John Wesley's methods of using reason and personal experience, among two other elements that are discussed. This type of analysis revolves around comparing what the church says and what the bible says, almost as a way to check and balance the different dialogues and their divergences. And in one of the best parts of the episode, Beverly reminds you that you have permission to break rules in this domain because Jesus himself was a rule breaker. So rules laid out by the church are not gospel, so to speak, if they don't align with the bible. Resources and Tools from Rachel and Beverly Rachel says you should determine a touch history for yourself and ask questions that relate to you if you were touch-deprived (not hugged a lot or touched) as a child and how that has possibly affected you on an intimate level. In addition, both provide valuable information and resources in the annotated bibliography of Advancing Sexual Health for the Christian Client. And also, Rachel shares some book suggestions. And to cap off the episode, Rachel talks about sexual beliefs and shares much more resources! Including details of their new book and its release date. Rachel L. Swarns and Darcy Eveleigh are two of the four editors of Unseen: Unpublished Black History from The New York Times Photo Archives. In Unseen, the editors took on the monumental task of going through millions of unpublished photos in the archives (or morgue) of The New York Times. They were looking for pictures of African Americans--both the ordinary and the famous. They then tried to get the story behind the photo centering around two major questions: why was the photo taken and why wasn't it used. The process was like unraveling a mystery taking a lot of determination. And the result is pretty extraordinary. Both Rachel and Darcy were longtime staff journalists at and are now contributors to The New York Times--Rachel is a writer and Darcy a photo editor. They talk about the book from these different perspectives and also share how putting this book together influenced their own approach to the work that they do.

In this episode, Rachel is joined once again by her husband and baby daddy, Dennis Schoneveld! Both Rachel and Dennis have big things coming up - Dennis is participating in his second Iron Man at the same time that Rachel is leading a yoga teacher training. They discuss what happened the last time Dennis did an Iron Man - and how it was the most they’ve ever fought as a couple. Recognizing that Rachel is much calmer this time around (maybe due to the Path of Love retreat she recently attended?), the couple makes a deal - Dennis will attend a Path of Love retreat if Rachel will participate in a Half Iron Man (!!). Finishing off the episode with some questions from the community, Dennis discusses Rachel’s nagging, what gives him anxiety, how he handles social media drama, what finally made him go vegan - and of course, when to expect baby number two. Tune in for another great conversation between Rachel and Dennis that will redefine the word ‘compromise’ and have everyone cracking up.

Climate Change—what’s faith got to do with it? To dramatically reduce greenhouse gas emissions and respond to a rapidly changing planet, people of faith and religious leaders play essential roles. Citizens’ Climate Radio host, Peterson Toscano, introduces you to two people of faith who are active climate advocates. Main Section Rachel Lamb, an American, is the national organizer and spokesperson with Young Evangelicals for Climate Action. David Michael Terungwa, a Catholic from Nigeria, is a leader in the African GREEN Movement and Africa Regional Coordinator for Citizens’ Climate Lobby. Both Rachel and David Michael stand as witnesses to their communities about the dangers of climate change and the need to act. The Art House In the Art House we conduct an audio brain experiment. What will they be saying about us in the future? We take a trip to the future to look back at the present day about the role that Christian missionaries can take as witnesses to their churches at home about how climate change affects the people in the countries where they serve. Citizens' Climate Puzzler Also, we review listeners' answers to the Citizens’ Climate Puzzler and introduce a new puzzler. Citizens Climate Puzzler. Check it out and and send us your best answer. You are talking to someone who you think could be an effective climate advocate. This may be a lawmaker, a faith leader, or a friend. After sharing your passion and what you are doing to address climate change, the person you are talking to, let’s call him Simon, shrugs and replies. What difference does it make if we do something in our country when it’s China that’s doing most of the polluting? Now Simon’s answer sounds to me like a very American reaction. If Simon does not live in the USA, he might instead ask: Why on earth should we do anything when the USA has done much of the polluting and is doing so little to act? In addition to his actual question—why should my country do something when others do not--what do you hear in Simon’s words? What emotions, fears and beliefs might his question reveal? How might you answer Simon’s question while also addressing what is unsaid. Get back to Peterson by September 15th, 2016. You can email your answers to radio @ citizensclimate.org You can also text leave a voicemail at 570.483.8194. (+1 if calling from outside the USA.) He will then share the best answers in our next episode which airs September 26, 2016. Help Spread the Word! Citizens’ Climate Radio is available on podbean, iTunes, and Stitcher Radio. Listen to the episode directly In this episode: Rachel and Natalie introduce themselves and ponder on why they ‘craft’ Natalie talks about pop culture and knitting and discovers that she is a “Sweater Knitter” above all else Rachel talks about replacing those pesky nupps with beads and tackling sleeves two at a time. This is our first episode so we’re just working out the bumps. I nearly tore my hair out when we lost about 15 minutes of really good audio because the batteries in my Zoom recorder died out. As Rachel said, “You live and learn.” In future episodes we want to do at least one feature segment from the following subjects: Product Obsession (Review) Crochet Chat Stash Busters DIY Nation Craft Philosophy Pop Culture Knits We will probably plan more segments but we thought we’d stop for now with those.
