The luxury Ritz-Carlton Hotel in downtown Portland, Oregon may be in trouble after less than just two years of operation. Ready Capital, the lender to real estate group that owns the hotel announced a bleak future for the Ritz-Carlton in a report detailing the corporation's fourth-quarter earnings. 'The fourth quarter closes out a year of mixed results,' CEO Thomas Capasse wrote in a press release. 'On one hand, our Small Business Lending segment performed well, with significant origination growth reflecting the benefits of past investments. 'Meanwhile, our multi-family lending focused business faced challenges from higher rates, inflationary pressures, and lower rent growth.' The Ritz Carlton was an underperforming property in the group's investment portfolio, failing to earn revenue comparable to the average for all Ritz-Carlton hotels. The hotel's building, Block 216, was bought by real estate developer Walter Bowen in 2019 and opened in 2023. The 35-story tower boasted luxury rooms starting at $500 a night and featured 132 condominiums.

On day one of the Cannes Lions International Festival of Creativity, the Digiday Podcast is joined by Dow Jones CMO Sherry Weiss live from the Wall Street Journal's new location — WSJ has relocated from on the pier to its new location next to the famous Carlton Hotel. Thus far, it's been the usual wheeling and dealing of Cannes Lions with dinner parties and happy hours. Much of the conversation at Cannes has been dominated by the topic of artificial intelligence, a focal point for Weiss. On the ground here at Cannes, Weiss said she's looking to chat with partners about leveraging AI tools for the creative process, something that's become mainstream amongst marketers at this point. But as the AI hype cycle continues, data privacy, safety, and return on investment become bigger talking points. "Honestly, that's going to be a lot of what I'm gonna be doing this week," Weiss said, "is talking with some of our tech partners to figure out how we can start using some of their technology." In the second episode of the Digiday at Cannes podcast, Weiss talks about AI tools in marketing, data privacy within AI and WSJ's new ad campaign to boost readership.

In the dimly lit ballroom of the opulent Carlton Hotel, Abby and Everett find themselves swept away in a sea of swirling gowns and dapper suits at a grand engagement party. The air is thick with anticipation as the entire town celebrates the union of two souls. Little do they know, destiny had a different dance card in mind. As the haunting strains of a waltz filled the room, Abby locked eyes with Brock Kincaid, whose mere presence stirred the embers of forbidden desires. In a moment of passion, Brock steals Abby away to the dance. The night unfolded like a tangle of emotions, veering into unexpected twists and turns, setting the stage for a tale of love, longing, and the clandestine dance of fate.
Enjoy two free western episodes of Have Gun-Will Travel w/ John Dehner A) 7/26/59 The Wager B) 8/9/59 Finn Alley The Have Gun-Will Travel radio series starred John Dehner and followed the adventures of Paladin, a soldier of fortune-turned-hired gunfighter. Paladin was a former Union cavalry officer, a graduate of the United States Military Academy at West Point, and a veteran of the American Civil War. Taking his name from that of the foremost knight warriors in Charlemagne's court, Paladin preferred to settle problems without violence, yet, when forced to fight, excelled. He lived at the swanky Carlton Hotel in San Francisco, where he dressed in formal wear, ate gourmet food, attended the opera and enjoyed the company of beautiful women. When working as a gun-for-hire, he dressed in all black, gave out business cards imprinted with “Have Gun Will Travel” and wore a holster, decorated by a characteristic chess knight emblem. The knight symbol was in reference to his name and his occupation as a champion-for-hire. Paladin charged steep fees to clients who could afford him and provided his services for free to those who could not. A western favorite, Have Gun-Will Travel began as a television show in 1957 starring Richard Boone. It became one of the few TV series to spawn a radio version. Have Gun-Will Travel ran on radio from 1958 until 1960 and was televised from 1957 through 1963. Most of the 106 radio episodes were adapted for television. Of the 225 television episodes, Gene Roddenberry (future creator of Star Trek) wrote two dozen.

Horst Schulze created the Ritz-Carlton Hotel brand single-handedly. After twenty years as an international hotelier, this was his chance to put his mark on his industry by injecting his core values and beliefs. He took one failing and decrepit hotel in Boston called the Ritz-Carlton and grew it into fifty hotels rated #1 or #2 in their respective markets worldwide. He dedicated his life to excellence in all he did. Horst is a respected leader by all leaders in all industries. But in the hotel business, Horst is a legend. But where did his principles and beliefs originate? I wanted to know, and that's why I asked him to join me in a conversation on his life and career. He started in a small village in Germany. There was no hotel in the town. Yet, he told his mother and father he wanted to be a hotelier at eleven years old. It was crazy. He didn't even know what that meant. Was this a God calling? The story of Horst meeting his mentor, Herr Zeitler, is worth your time to listen to this conversation. All successful people I know have a Herr Zeitler in their lives, and the stories of their influence are inspiring. At eighteen years old, Horst wrote an essay on what he learned in Hotel school from sixteen to eighteen. He thought of what made his mentor successful and wrote this sentence…Damen und Herren im dienst zu damen und herren. (Ladies and gentlemen in service to ladies and gentlemen.)How he implemented this simple sentence. The principles he developed. The methods that followed. The people impacted worldwide. This is the incredible story of a man called by God to transform an industry. Come join us in this conversation.

Have Gun Will Travel was a popular American Western television series that aired on CBS from 1957 through 1963. It was the #4 show in the Nielsen ratings in its first year, and #3 for the next three years.[citation needed] It was one of the few television shows to spawn a successful radio version. The radio series debuted on November 23, 1958. The show followed the adventures of Paladin, a gentleman-turned-gunfighter played by John Dehner on radio, who preferred to settle problems without violence, yet, when forced to fight, excelled. Paladin lived in the Carlton Hotel in San Francisco, where he dressed in semi-formal wear, ate gourmet food, and attended opera. In fact, many who initially met him mistook him for a dandy from the East. When working, he dressed in black, used calling cards and wore a holster which carried characteristic chess knight emblems, and carried a derringer under his belt. The knight symbol is of course in reference to his name — possibly a nickname or working name — and his occupation as a champion-for-hire. The theme song of the series refers to him as "a knight without armor." In addition, Paladin drew a parallel between his methods and the chess piece's movement: "It's a chess piece, the most versatile on the board. It can move in eight different directions, over obstacles, and it's always unexpected." Paladin was a former Army officer and a graduate of West Point. He was a polyglot, capable of speaking any foreign tongue required by the plot. He also had a thorough knowledge of ancient history and classical literature, and he exhibited a strong passion for legal principles and the rule of law.THIS EPISODE:March 8, 1959. CBS network origination, AFRTS rebroadcast. "The Monster Of Moon Ridge". Paladin discovers the secret of the half-man, half-bear spotted on Moon Ridge. See cat. #62802 for a network, sponsored version of this program. The script was used on the "Have Gun, Will Travel" television show on February 28, 1959. John Dehner, Herb Meadow (creator), Sam Rolfe (creator), Norman Macdonnell (producer, director), Ben Wright, Gene Roddenberry (writer), John Dawson (adaptor), Lawrence Dobkin, Virginia Christine, Jess Kirkpatrick, Jeanne Bates (doubles), Hugh Douglas (announcer), Bill James (sound effects), Tom Hanley (sound effects). 25 minutes.

Rod B. & Alvaro Garfunk bring you the Miami Underground Movement.Minimal & Tech HouseAbout João Paulo João Paulo had his first contact with eletronic music by the age of 15, at Dr. Smith club. Everyone in town knows for sure the club’s story and its reputation to always bring the main international attractions to Rio de Janeiro. One of the club’s owner was his oldest brother, so, he was familiarized since he was a kid with the dancefloor, which made him become part of that universe. Ten years after, already grown up and comfortable at the set, João Paulo has ended up by owning the pickups and has become a resident at three carioca parties: Bootleg, Mínima and Loading. With nothing but three years of career, the DJ has already participated of the Creamfields Festival in Rio de Janeiro, the Chemical Music Festival, Paz Eletrônica, Xxxperience 100º edition, Tribe, and has already played at the following parties: Burn Energy Music, Nokia Trends Mob Jam, Tim Verão at Ipanema Beach, RBK Tops, Ballantine’s Impress and Ipanema Stereo Beach 2007/2008, representing Bootleg. In 2007, João Paulo has gone beyond the national fronteers and played at We Love Brasil, at the Carlton Hotel and at Bass Walk Records, at the club Pawl Shop, during the Winter Music Conference 2007, in Miami. Right after the conference, the DJ left to the south of Brazil, where he opened the project Life is a Loop at the club Warung, in Santa Catarina. Besides these gigs, during the Skol Beats 2007, he was invited to play at Pacha, at the party We Love Sundays. At this time, João Paulo shared the pickups with great Brazilian names of the electronic music, such as Gui Boratto, Life is a Loop, Mary Zander, Maurício Lopes, Mau Mau, Leo Janeiro, Flow & Zeo, among many others. Remarkable international artists also share the set with him. In this team, DJs like Fat Boy Slim, Booka Shade, Deep Dish, Tiga, Miss Kittin, Laurent Garnier, Josh Wink, Benni Benassi, Christian Smith, Martin Eyerer, Steve Lawler, Serge Santiago, Thomas Schumacher, Format B, Tim Healey, King Unique, Spirit Catcher, Luke Dzierzek, Tobias Lutzenkirchen are together, just to mention some of them. DJ João Paulo’s style varies among techno, tech house and minimal. At the beginning, house and electro were the first influences in his sets, basically due to his brother’s sound and also because of the vocals and mixes at that time. In Winter Music, 2006, the DJ met the minimal deeper and fell in love with this music gender. Artists like Format B, Audio Fly and Trentemoller became therefore his big influences. At the beginning of 2007, he incorporated techno and decided to add those beats in his sets. Nowadays, João Paulo doesn’t like to be considered from a specific style and his case goes from house to minimal. Another big characteristic of the DJ is his big interest in technology, mostly towards to musical universe. João Paulo researches not only music, but also last generation software like Final Scratch, Traktor DJ Studio, Serato Scratch Live and Ableton Live. The result is a vast knowledge of mixing techniques and an increasing number of tools to build songs. And the effect of it, we can see it on the dancefloor.
