Support the show: https://www.patreon.com/movieinsidersSee omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

- Jurassic World Rebirth.

We wrap our 28 franchise coverage with Danny Boyle and Alex Garland's 28 Years Later. Danny Boyle and Alex Garland's 28 Days Later is a film that holds up a lot better than a lot of its contemporaries. Following a disappointing middle entry, Boyle is back in the director's chair with the epic 28 Years Later. We discuss the distinctive trilogy's emotionally-charged place in the horror canon and the quirks of its writer and director's visions. Also include discussions of Saw X (2023), Locked (2025), M3GAN 2.0 (2025), The Excavation of Hob's Barrow (video game, 2022) and more.Follow us on Instagram and Facebook.Contact us at crystal@spookybitchgang.com and scott@spookybitchgang.com.
The gang abandons their wife this week as they review the non-Boyle follow up to small Brit zombie hit... this week it's 28 Weeks Later (2007). With a whole new cast, new director, and a new writer this follow yup to 28 Days Later was noted as a sort of cash grab by Alex Garland and Danny Boyle alike. 28 Years Later is latest film from director Danny Boyle and writer Alex Garland, the duo that brought you the original 28 Days Later. Set titularly 28 years after the original rage virus infection spread through England, the film follows a group of isolated survivors struggling to figure out their place in this dangerous world. What sounds like a generic plot summary for any modern zombie movie turns into something much more interesting, contemplative, and emotional than we expected. Hey everybody this week we are discussing Danny Boyle's adaptation of Trainspotting (1996). Listen as we breakdown this surprisingly entertaining and energetic depiction of a Scottish heroin addict trying to get clean surrounded by people who are getting in his way. Enjoy!
Produced and directed by Danny Boyle and written by Alex Garland, 28 Years Later is the post-apocalyptic coming-of-age horror film which serves as the third instalment in the 28 Days Later film series. It's been almost three decades since the rage virus escaped from a biological weapons laboratory. One group of survivors lives on a small island connected to the mainland by a single, heavily defended causeway. When one of them decides to venture into the dark heart of the mainland, he soon discovers a mutation that has spread to not only the infected, but other survivors as well. We break down all things from rage filled infected, a tower of skulls, and kung-fu Scots. Plus, we've got a bonus segment featuring special guest Nick Hardy. He plays one of the infected and joins us to share what it was like on set and bringing the rage to life.

Ep. 332: Amy Taubin on Cloud, Tribeca (I Was Born This Way, Happy Birthday, Shadow Scholars), Twin Peaks, Outrageous, plus Mountainhead Welcome to The Last Thing I Saw, with your host, Nicolas Rapold. The summer may have technically begun, but it's not truly the summer without our annual June-July-ish kick-off: a podcast with critic Amy Taubin! Once again she brings a selection of highlights gleaned from the Tribeca, including prize-winners and otherwise: I Was Born This Way (directed by Daniel Junge and Sam Pollard), Natchez (Suzannah Herbert), The Shadow Scholars (Eloise King), Cuerpo Celeste (Nayra Ilic García), Happy Birthday (Sarah Goher), and the delightful Lion King doc Runa Simi (Augusto Zegarra), with my chiming in about The Scout (Paula González-Nasser). But wait, that's not all: Amy also talks about Kiyoshi Kurosawa's Cloud (coming to U.S. theaters on July 18); her recent work on Twin Peaks, with a remarkable personal connection to David Lynch's work; and Outrageous, the very resonant TV series about the Mitford sisters. Plus: I ramble a bit about the latest movies from Celine Song, Materialists, and from Danny Boyle, 28 Years Later, as well as Jeremy Strong's feature-film directorial debut, the tech-bro-apocalypse satire Mountainhead.
