Widow of Slain Ohio Deputy Sues Alleged Killer's Family Over Fundraisers The widow of a retired Ohio sheriff's deputy has filed a civil lawsuit against the family of the man accused of killing her husband, accusing them of profiting off his alleged crime through online fundraisers. Rodney Hinton Jr., 38, is currently in the Clermont County Jail, charged with aggravated murder for the May 2, 2024 death of Larry Henderson, a 57-year-old retired Hamilton County Sheriff's deputy who was working a special duty traffic detail during the University of Cincinnati's commencement ceremonies. Authorities say that Hinton deliberately accelerated his silver Ford Focus and struck Henderson from behind while he was directing traffic at the intersection of Jefferson and Corry Streets near the university's Fifth Third Arena. Surveillance footage reportedly shows Hinton turning around after initially driving past Henderson, circling back, and intentionally aiming the vehicle at the deputy. Henderson was thrown several feet and suffered fatal injuries. He was pronounced dead shortly after being transported to a hospital. Police say the attack appeared to be motivated by rage and grief, as just one day earlier, Hinton's 26-year-old son, Ryan Hinton, was shot and killed by Cincinnati police officers during an altercation. According to the Cincinnati Police Department, Ryan Hinton was involved in a domestic violence situation and allegedly charged at officers with a knife before being fatally shot. Body camera footage was shown to Rodney Hinton shortly after the incident, and his defense attorney has since claimed that seeing the video triggered a psychotic break. Prosecutors, however, allege that Hinton acted with intent, describing the incident as a targeted and deliberate attack on law enforcement. They charged him with aggravated murder, felonious assault, and vehicular homicide. At his arraignment, prosecutors noted the calculated nature of the attack and emphasized that Henderson had no connection to the officer who shot Ryan Hinton. Following Hinton's arrest, members of his family created crowdfunding campaigns on platforms including GoFundMe and GiveSendGo to raise money for legal expenses and family support. These fundraisers were met with swift backlash from law enforcement organizations and political officials, who condemned them as an exploitation of a tragic crime. Both platforms ultimately removed the campaigns after public outcry. On July 14, 2025, Henderson's widow filed a wrongful death lawsuit in Clermont County Common Pleas Court against Rodney Hinton and several of his family members. The lawsuit, claims that the fundraisers amassed over $100,000 and that the family capitalized on Hinton's "public status and notoriety gained solely through his criminal act of killing Deputy Henderson." On this episode of Trending with Timmerie, guest host Brooke Taylor brings on Fr. Dave Heney to talk all about forgiveness. You can listen to the entire hour on this topic here. Fr. Dave jumps right in, saying that forgiveness isn’t just something “nice” we should do—it’s absolutely central to living a joyful life. We all get hurt, he says, and if we don’t learn how to handle that pain, it can end up running our lives. What most people want when they’re hurt is to “get even,” but as Fr. Dave explains, you can never actually even the score. That cycle of hurt just keeps spiraling until someone is crushed under it. It's not a good way to live! He then unpacks Jesus’ famous words: “turn the other cheek” and “love your enemies”—verses you might struggle to understand. Fr. Dave explains that it’s not about ignoring the pain or pretending it didn’t happen. It’s about knowing your dignity comes from God, not from the person who insulted or hurt you. And when we’re anchored in that, we can let go of revenge. What’s beautiful is how he separates forgiveness from reconciliation. Forgiveness is an instant decision — “I’m not going to hurt you back.” Reconciliation, though, is a process that takes time. It’s exactly what happens in confession: you stop the harm, admit what you did, promise to change, and try to make things right. A listener, Hannah, calls in asking what to say to friends who were abused as kids and are now struggling with that trauma. Fr. Dave answers with so much tenderness—he says one powerful path to healing is helping others. When someone who was hurt steps into helping or ministry, they reclaim strength and purpose that abuse tried to steal. And, of course, he affirms how important counseling can be when wounds run deep. Brooke also reminds us of all the saints who lived out this radical forgiveness—saints like Maria Goretti and St. Bakhita—showing us the way back to Christ. Yes, forgiveness is hard—but it’s possible, and you are never walking through it alone.

Jesus reveals in John 14:20, "In that day, you will know that I am in the Father, you are in me, and I am in you." This is the heart of the Gospel. Through the blood of Christ and the power of the Holy Spirit, there is no separation between us and God. Created in His image, we misused our freedom and became a mess, blind to our Father's love. We even killed Jesus, our Creator. Yet, God raised Him from the dead and, instead of vengeance, offered grace. In our darkest moment, He redeemed us. When you realize how unfair this is, gratitude is our only remaining option. Even Jonathan Edwards realized late in life: "we contribute nothing to our salvation but the sin that made it necessary." The Gospel is simple—God finds us in our lostness and saves us by His grace alone.

Earlier this year, E.A. Hanks—also known as Elizabeth—made her literary debut The 10: A Memoir of Family and the Open Road. Considering its framing, it is no surprise that the book was recommended to Ten Across by many. The 10 documents Elizabeth's re-creation of a fraught childhood road trip taken with her mother in 1996, traveling Interstate 10 from end to end. In retracing her mother's path, she reflects on the diverse nature of the region itself and its influence on events both large and small.  What results is, in significant part, a series of provocative questions about identity—personal, political, and place-based. For example, what makes Texas and California so different, and at the same time so equally vivid in the American imagination? Why do people around the world recognize so much of this singular transect? Is New Orleans the American city? How long can Phoenix exist as it has? How do we define a border? Timestamps: (7:58) - Stockdale Family In 2008, the Stockdale family from Ohio appeared on the reality TV show ‘Wife Swap.'  Kathy and Timothy Stockdale were raising their four sons in a very strict, conservative manner.   This is an excerpt from the family manual Kathy prepared for ‘Wife Swap.'  We moved to the country to get the boys away from the city. Our children are being raised away from violent language, sexual influences, drinking, smoking, drugs, rap music all the things we left behind in the city. Instead we are raising our children on a diet of wholesome activities and farm work; keeping their minds pure and their bodies healthy and keeping out the influences of modern society. That is why we home-school. By 2017, two of the children remained in the family home - Jacob and James.  One day that year, while Timothy was at work, Jacob fatally shot his brother James and his mother Kathy.   He then attempted to take his own life by shooting himself in the head.  He survived and was hospitalised for many months. After he recovered, Jacob was charged with the murders of his mother and brother.   No motive for the killings has ever been revealed.
