Chris Moon helps people and organisations around the world grow and improve personal and team performance. He's been a keynote speaker and run change and leadership programs for over twenty years working with the public and private sector and international business schools. He's one of the most fortunate people to be alive you're likely to meet. His exploits have been covered in a Discovery documentary I Shouldn't Be Alive. Chris is a former British Army Officer with three year's operational experience who left to work for a charity clearing landmines. He's survived being taken prisoner in Cambodia by the Khmer Rouge (one of the most brutal terror groups in history) and negotiated his release and that of two colleagues from threatened execution. In 1995 he was blown up in a supposedly safe area of a minefield in remote East Africa losing an arm and a leg (ironically doing one of the least dangerous things he did). He survived initially because he treated himself. About fourteen hours after injury he arrived in South Africa where doctors say they'd never seen anyone live with such a small amount of blood. He recovered four times faster than expected and in 1996; within a year of leaving hospital ran the London Marathon, raised significant sums to help disabled people in the developing world and successfully completed a full time Master's-Degree in human behaviour. Chris taught himself to run and is thought to be the world's first amputee ultra-distance runner after completing the Marathon De Sables in 1997. He's run the world's toughest ultra-marathons and most recently the Badwater Death Valley 135 mile ultra. He's led numerous teams to complete rigorous challenges ranging from climbing mountains to cycling the length of Cambodia. Chris has a passion for the process of achievement and uses his unique experiences to help people do what they do better. He speaks with enthusiasm and humour on resilience, change, personal and strategic leadership and all aspects of behavioural choices. His interactive presentations and workshops are tailored to deliver desired outcomes and actions. #InspiringLeadership #leadership #CEO #MotivationalSpeaker #teamcoach #InclusiveLeadership #Boards See acast.com/privacy for privacy and opt-out information.

What do rhinos, hyenas, a stabbing tree, a submerged coral reef and a tourniquet have a common?A really, really less than ideal situation. One where literally nobody should be alive. And they're also all featured in a show that Miranda likes to watch while sitting in her warm and dry bed with a plate full of food and watching people suffer. For Trash this week, Miranda tells Grace all about some of her favourite tales from the show ‘I Shouldn't Be Alive', which happen to be both tragic and terrifying but also deeply hilarious. And over in Treasury, we're talking about the award-winning Canadian musical ‘Come From Away' which just finished it's run in Melbourne theatres. With the most unlikely premise for a musical ever, ‘Come From Away' is beautiful, uplifting and simply good for the soul. We talk about the true stories that inspired the musical, and reveal that we actually have no idea what the saying “what's good for the goose is good for the gander” means. So come on and kiss the fish!Wherever you get your podcasts.************ Grace's Links ***********Come From Away Original Broadway Recording - on SpotifyCome From Away the Musical - playing in Brisbane now until May, in Sydney from JuneThe Dig - on Netflix*********** Miranda's Links ************I Shouldn't Be Alive - Prime Video and 7 PlusBehind Her Eyes - on Netflix*************** Show Links ***************· www.trashandtreasury.com.au· https://www.facebook.com/trashandtreasury· Instagram - @trashandtreasuryAll our music is from Epidemic Sound************** Disclaimer ***************The views expressed within this podcast are our own and we are not experts. Together with American Songwriter, we had the pleasure of interviewing Jillette Johnson over Zoom video! The hard-won optimism of Jillette Johnson’s It’s a Beautiful Day and I Love You couldn’t have come without tremendous upheaval. “It’s a Beautiful Day and I Love You carries harmonic and emotional heft in the vein of Patty Griffin’s Flaming Red or Joni Mitchell’s Court and Spark. There’s an open-heartedness in the Nashville-based Johnson’s songs, the kind of deeply experienced inner peace that results from a journey through vulnerability, pain, and struggle to gratitude, forgiveness, and, ultimately, acceptance.Johnson’s a rare gem in Nashville, having written the entirety of It’s a Beautiful Day and I Love You alone, running contrary to the common Music City practice of co-writing. She did, however, find herself drawn to the city’s creative adage of “three chords and the truth” — though in Johnson’s case, it’s more like a dozen chords, especially on the harmonically elegant title track.Despite its cheery title, It’s a Beautiful Day and I Love You does bear its share of heaviness: the woozy, self-destructiveness of “I Shouldn’t Go Anywhere”; the encounter with the thief of joy in “Jealous”; the helpless feelings that surround an acquaintance’s suicide in “Angelo.” “Songs are painful, and suffering is inherent to life,” Johnson acknowledges. “Part of my journey has been understanding and accepting that, then doing what I can to find joy.”That joy shines through in the rolling folk-pop guitar patterns of “Annie,” a song of gratitude to the ex who taught her husband “to love with his whole heart.” It’s embedded in the mildly macabre humor of “Graveyard Boyfriend,” the lyrics of which are offset with a buoyant ‘70s-style pop melody. It’s even present in “What Would Jesus Do,” where the irreverent hook — “What would Jesus do? I don’t know, but I know he wouldn’t do it my way” — masks a meditation on acceptance. That song’s bite is balanced somewhat by “Forgive Her,” which begins by paraphrasing Jesus and winds up doing exactly what he would do.At 15, Johnson’s best friends were her producer, her engineer, and her manager — all men in their 40s. “I was going out drinking with 40-year-old men and coming home at 2 in the morning on a regular basis.” Johnson soon learned first-hand about the prevalence of entertainment- industry predators and saw her parents nearly lose their house as her would-be manager skipped town with the money they had invested in her career.Later, Johnson signed a deal that resulted in two albums, 2013’s Water in a Whale and 2017’s All I Ever See in You Is Me, the latter of which was produced by fellow Nashvillian Dave Cobb. She began touring 200+ days each year, earning slots at Bonnaroo, SXSW, and Firefly that helped lead to TV appearances on VH1 and Rachel Ray, along with accolades from outlets ranging from Billboard, Rolling Stone Country, and Paste to Marie Claire, ELLE, and Cosmopolitan. Even as she built a promising foundation for her career, company acquisitions and executive shuffling left Johnson in a volatile, ever-changing environment.“This chapter of my life has been about quiet, stillness, gratitude, deepening relationships, and not running away,” she says. “And this record has a lot to do with learning how to be in one place and how to feel freedom in that.”We want to hear from you! This has been called one the worst shark attack stories of all time. After their yacht, ‘The Trashman’, sank in a major storm, five crew members were stranded in the middle of the ocean in a tiny inflatable dinghy. That number soon turned to four. Then three. Then two. Then... yeah - sharks were circling them, taking the crew one by one. But not before starvation and thirst caused them to mentally unravel and turn on each other (seriously - one crew member got so delirious they started acting like a possessed zombie). This one is a WILD fkn ride. On this week's very special episode of I Shouldn't Say This But, I am joined by 2 great friends Kiera and Aimie from the amazing Feel Good Club. Feel Good Club is a wonderful mental-health and wellbeing community that has recently opened a cafe based in the Northern Quarter in Manchester. I’ll be talking to them both about how they’ve gotten to where they are today, what it’s been like opening a business during a pandemic and some of the battles the world is now facing with mental health. They also run an extremely popular Instagram page that provides lovely daily reminders for all their followers about coping with life in the day-to-day and this week they have even taken the streets of Manchester by storm with some amazing billboards to brighten up everyone’s week. I had a great time recording this episode and I hope you all enjoy it just as much as I did. So without further ado, sit back, relax and enjoy this episode of I Shouldn't Say This, But.

Jillette Johnson hails from New York City, but talks to us today from her home in Nashville, where she enjoys "being the weird one in town." Her new album, It's A Beautiful Day and I Love You, comes out Feb 12 and showcases four years of growth for this talented singer and songwriter. As someone who churns out songs to the tune of a couple hundred every year, you can rest easy knowing these are the cream of the crop. On this episode, we talk with her about her early days in New York and why she made the move to Nashville. We discuss a handful of her songs, including "Forgive Her" and "I Shouldn't Go Anywhere," which she graciously recorded for this show! We also found out why she declined an offer to compete on The Voice, and what she learned from many hours listening to Joni Mitchell. https://www.jillettejohnson.com/ https://www.songfacts.com/ https://www.facebook.com/songfacts https://twitter.com/Songfacts http://pantheonpodcasts.com/ https://twitter.com/pantheonpods Hosted and Edited by Corey O’Flanagan https://twitter.com/ofe1818 https://www.instagram.com/coreyofe/ corey@songfacts.com Songfacts Podcast Spotify Playlist https://open.spotify.com/playlist/3IThMW5yB8XnFh5cS2gTxR?si=KAhiqWRcSIy5uxb2sZPFTA This show is part of Pantheon Podcasts.

In the final podcast of 2020, we look back over Christmas ads from The Gravy Song, to Tesco’s No Naughty List and we see which brands have got it right and which have definitely got it wrong. After rating my favourite ads, we discuss the fact that Christmas is not easy for everyone. I talk about how I’m approaching this year and some of the ways we can help people who might be struggling. Ariana Grande. Mumford and Sons. Disclosure. Hozier. Dermot Kennedy. These are just some of the incredible artists that this week's guest has worked with to build their careers and best-selling music. Guillermo Ramos is the VP of Marketing at Island Records, one of the world's most famous labels. He tells me all about his amazing career, the importance of making your own luck and why he feels so privileged to call this his day job. He reveals what it's like to work with music royalty, the artist development process and shares some invaluable advice for aspiring musicians. He also explains how COVID created creativity at Island Records, and and leaves us with one of the best admission submissions I've heard in a long time. I am so excited for you to hear this. Guillermo played a pivotal part in the achievements of so many world-class artists. There's so much value in this episode, I don't even have the word-count to tell you about everything we cover. You'll just have to listen instead. So without further ado, sit back, relax and enjoy this episode of I Shouldn't Say This, But.

I am a chronic procrastinator. I put things off. I avoid certain tasks. I distract myself on purpose. I struggle to complete work. And I know that I'm not alone. 1 in 5 people procrastinate at least once, every single day. So, on this week's episode of the podcast, I dive deep into all things procrastination. I look into what causes it, the impact of working from home and the different types of procrastinators. I also share some practical tips and tricks on how to avoid and overcome procrastination, that you can start applying to your life right now. Finally, and most importantly, I explore the idea that procrastination can be powerful, and that it isn't always a bad thing. This is something that rarely gets the discussion it deserves. This episode is for anyone struggling with motivation or focus right now. After listening, you will see procrastination is a brand new light, and I really hope it helps. So without further ado, sit back, relax and enjoy this episode of I Shouldn't Say This, But.
This week, I am joined by fantastic Pippa Murray, Founder of Pip & Nut, the award-winning, fastest growing nut butter brand in the UK. Pip followed a career path that was far from traditional, going from anthropology, to theatre, to entrepreneurship - founding a business that started as an idea while preparing for a marathon. We discuss Pip & Nut’s outstanding growth over the years, with 2020 being their first profitable year thus far, in spite of Covid. We chat about their recognition as a B-corp business, balancing long term goals and short term wins, building culture, and the importance of user-generated content. Pip also shares how her entrepreneurial streak came from her resilience and determination when growing up with dyslexia. This shaped her into the inspiring female leader she is today, having won a plethora of awards including Natwest Everywoman Award, and being listed in Forbes’ 30 under 30. Pip & Nut is such a fabulous business, emerging triumphant from what has been an incredibly tough year, and Pip’s passion for her brand is unrivalled. Earlier this month, I shared a post on overworking and burnout, and it went viral. It exploded. So many people resonated with it. Equally, there were people that disagreed. It made me realise that clearly, this is a topic that needs to be discussed more. So, on this week's episode of the podcast I deep dive into all things burnout. I reveal the three types of burnout, why people overwork, my own experience of it, and some shocking statistics that you'll want to hear. I also give some practical tips on how to avoid overworking, and how to recover from burnout if it does creep up on you. Burnout will never be cool, and it's time we stopped glamourising and justifying overworking once and for all. So, without further ado, sit back, relax and enjoy this episode of I Shouldn't Say This, But.
This week, I am joined by the fantastic Yoann Pavy, VP of Marketing at Laced, the startup sneaker reselling platform taking Europe by storm. We chat about his switch from an engineering career to marketing, the importance of customer insight and social listening, and why brands need a paid and organic blend. We also discuss what it’s like to start a new job during the pandemic, and some incredible personal branding tips and tricks to help transform your career. This is without a doubt, one of the most valuable episodes I’ve recorded so far. So, without further ado, sit back, relax and enjoy this episode of I Shouldn’t Say This, But.

This week's episode is inspired by a POTUS unwilling or unable to accept the facts. Indeed, you can probably currently find him prone on the floor of the Oval Office, pounding his feet and fists, screaming, "I won't go! I won't! I won't go, and you can't make me!!"If you've ever parented a 2- or 3-year-old, you know exactly what's happening. It's a temper tantrum, and they are the bane of every parent's experience. Full-body sweats, tears, pleading, and begging are the hallmark signs of a temper tantrum—and that's just the parental response! The pre-schooler, however, is awash in unrequited desires: staying up longer, buying a toy at the store or being picked up and carried 24/7. Then there are the crazier things that make kids crack: imagined slights, wanting the impossible, or preventing a sibling from existing in the world as we know it. This week we jump into the temper tantrum mire and find out how to stop the little demons from hurting themselves or our sanity. As far as Donald J. Trump is concerned, however, we're out of ideas. Maybe a nice, long time out is in order.LinksThe President Show on YouTube: Donny Goes to School (temper tantrum at 4:04!)Parenting Power Up on YouTube: What To Do When Your Child Throws a Temper TantrumFollow us on social media!Instagram @ishouldnthavehadkidsFacebook ishouldnthavehadkidsTwitter @SHHKidsOr, email us :)ishouldnthavehadkids@gmail.comFind all episodes of I Shouldn't Have Had Kids wherever you get your podcastsBuzzsproutApple PodcastsSpotify
We could all do with a little happiness right now. So, if you're finding the second lockdown tough, this episode is for you. This week, I dive deep into 4 super interesting happiness hacks, each vastly different from the other. From a Japanese concept for finding purpose, to setting happiness goals, to a scientific approach to feel-good brain chemicals, I share how I will (or won't) be applying each idea to my life right now, and how you can do the same. The sole purpose of this episode? To help people. I'll be the first to admit the last few months have had a big impact on my mental health. But now, I'm going to be putting all of my energy into trying to make each day a little brighter, and I really hope that this episode allows you to do the same. So without further ado, sit back, relax and enjoy this episode of I Shouldn't Say This, But.
Millennials are so... special. Believe us. We have one. In the Millennial generation, everybody gets a ribbon and everything gets a sticker. They even have a word for growing up. It's called "adulting." In fact, there's a book and about a million articles all about the subject. There's really nothing new about growing up or adulting, but there is certainly enough to talk about! Especially since we have one "adult-ish" son, another who is in full-fledge adulting mode, and a third boy on the precipice of the whole thing. What does adulting entail, you ask? Well, if you want to know whether or not your teen is adulting, here are a few questions to ask:Do you regularly have the oil in your car changed? Can you neatly wrap a gift?Do you know how to write a cover letter?Do you know how to sew a button back on?Do you make your own doctor's appointments? That's just the tip of the proverbial iceberg. It is possible that you read that list of questions and admitted to yourself that perhaps — at 35, 45 or 55 — you're not adulting so well yourself. Uh-huh. That's right. It's not EASY growing up, so cut your burgeoning adult some slack. If you want to take some of the pain out of nudging your teen toward independence, and realize you're not alone in the struggle, this week's episode of I Shouldn't Have Had Kids should help. Well, at least it will make you laugh. That's because our boys have faced or are facing all of the adulting challenges and they've made plenty of mistakes along the way. And believe us, so have we. The silver lining is that it makes for some damn funny stories, and we're bringing them to you on the show this week.So pour yourself a glass of wine, put in your earbuds, and take a break with us as we podcast for parental sanity—ours and yours.LinksYouTube: Trailer of the 2019 movie, JudyQ13 News Website: Story and Video About the Capture of Asian Murder HornetsUK's Metro News Website: 10 Tips You Need to Learn About Being A Grown-Up from the Adulting ManualFollow us on social media!Instagram @ishouldnthavehadkidsFacebook ishouldnthavehadkidsTwitter @SHHKidsOr, email us :)ishouldnthavehadkids@gmail.comFind all episodes of I Shouldn't Have Had Kids wherever you get your podcastsBuzzsproutApple PodcastsSpotify
This week’s guest is the fantastic Rikke Rosenlund, Founder and CEO of BorrowMyDoggy - the canine Tinder taking the UK by storm, in a dog sitting market worth $1 billion. I have a real personal connection to this brand. The first lockdown was an incredibly lonely period for me. I was struggling to find the motivation to leave the house, until I met Lottie, the gorgeous Cockapoo, through BorrowMyDoggy. She brought me back to life. Rikke lets me in on why she decided to start BorrowMyDoggy, the brilliant benefits of borrowing, and all the positive to come out of the platform during COVID, including some very touching stories from the BorrowMyDoggy community. We also chat about her experience as a female founder, what she thinks can be done to improve the prospects of female entrepreneurs, and the lessons she's learnt through lockdown. I promise you that this episode will make you smile. So for some positivity during such a difficult time, sit back, relax and enjoy this episode of I Shouldn’t Say This, But.

Imaginary friends and freaky role in the familyUh, honey? Who are you talking to? Cue Twilight Zone music as your son or daughter turns around slowly, looks at you, cocks their head and asks, "Can't you see him, mommy?"What does it mean when a child has an imaginary friend? One with whom they spend the bulk of their time. One that plays the role of confident, family member, and trouble maker all at once. "But Mommy, Wiggy doesn't WANT to nap, so I have to stay awake with him.."Is it a sign of brilliance? Mental instability? Creative genius? Is it freaking you out just a wee bit?Truth is, you don't have anything to worry about. In fact, some studies have found that nearly 65% of kids have an imaginary friend at one time or another. It looks like the experience is nearly as common as finding a Trump supporter in the state of Idaho. Poor Idaho. Good potatoes, though.Anyway, back to the invisible. We look at imaginary friends through the filter of Tigger's experience with his own BFF, Wiggy. And until this show, neither of us ever asked Tigger about that invisible friend. His answers blew our collective minds! Join us for the story, and as an added bonus, Bonnie is bringing a handful of stories about supernatural invisible friends kids have claimed they saw. BONUS BITESIZE EPISODE ALERT! October has been an eventful month, to say the least. So I've recorded an extra special episode, rounding up the good, the bad and the ugly of marketing campaigns this month. I also share my thoughts on October's major social updates, including the infamous launch of LinkedIn Stories, a change in the landscape that has caused quite a stir. Finally, I give my predictions on what I think this year's highly anticipated John Lewis Christmas ad could be. In just 20 minutes, I go through everything worth knowing about social and marketing in October. So sit back, relax, and enjoy this bonus episode of I Shouldn't Say This, But.
This week, I am joined by Ollie Ratcliffe, Digital Communications Specialist at Bettys & Taylors, parent brand to the iconic Yorkshire Tea. Yorkshire Tea is one of my all-time favourite brands, so I was very excited to speak to Ollie about what it’s like working for Britain’s best brew (if you don’t agree, you’re wrong). We discuss Yorkshire Tea’s best marketing moments, including their new Toast and Jam brew, the social distancing teapot, and the controversial incident with Rishi Sunak. We also chat about how the brand flourished during COVID, the importance of social listening and communities, and humour as a strategy. Ollie dives deep into his past redundancy, the lack of guidance on today’s careers from schools and what he hates about the industry. This is probably one of the best podcast episodes yet. You do not want to miss it. So sit back, relax and enjoy this episode of I Shouldn’t Say This, But.
A woman runs down a dark street screaming in terror. She races up the steps to her best friend's house and pounds on the door. As the door creaks opens, the woman pulls out her (hot glue) gun and trains it on her friend."Hot toddy. Stat!" she pants. "Oh, and I need to borrow some orange felt. I just ran out." The joy that many parents get in the planning, buying, cutting, and placating that goes into one night of tricks and treats has always been a head–scratcher to us. Halloween gives our kids two hours of joy, sure, but by the time it's all said and done, we're exhausted and they have cavities. Don't get us wrong. We know that some people literally L-I-V-E for Halloween. We just would not be those people. We played along for years, however, all in the name of good parenting. And we've got the stories to prove it. We cover it all on this week's Halloween edition of I Shouldn't Have Had Kids, along with a little Halloween trivia and a whole host of characters. They include:Steve JobsKing Boo Giant Dinos Holly HobbieThe Blues BrothersAnd, a Freudian slipSo, grab a handful of your favorite Halloween candy and let us get you in the mood for Halloween 2020. This week's episode is inspired by Paris Hilton. I bet you never expected me to say that. Something she said in her recent documentary really resonated with me, and we need to talk about it. Social media is making it almost impossible for young people to live a happy life, and as the very first "influencer", nobody knows the system quite like Paris. Instagram has been tied to depression, anxiety and increased body dissatisfaction, and as we're spending more time on these platforms, we can safely assume that these concerns have not only remained, but increased. I discuss the damaging impact of filters and effects, comparison culture, the dark side of social, how I feel when I'm using it and what I think can be done to make things easier for future generations. I am scared for the kids of today, and this is something I am incredibly passionate about. So, sit back, relax and enjoy this episode of I Shouldn't Say This, But.

This week I am joined by Thomas Hal Robson-Kanu, athlete, professional footballer and founder of The Turmeric Co., one of the UK’s fastest growing health brands. We discuss his deeply personal connection to turmeric, how this spurred him on to start the business, how he’s since managed to grow and pivot in light of the pandemic, and how he (very successfully) juggles two careers. We also chat about what he’s personally learnt during lockdown, his refreshing approach to leadership and the importance of discipline, in both business and professional sport. This is an incredible conversation full to the brim with value. The Turmeric Co., is such an exciting brand, and with the number of people taking an interest in natural healthcare on the rise (accelerated in light of the pandemic), the sky really is the limit! So sit back, relax and enjoy this episode of “I Shouldn’t Say This, But”.
On episode 46: Grandparents steal the show!Oh, baking pies with grandma or building birdhouses with grandpa might sound like a quintessentially grandparental moment, but let's not forget the somewhat more interesting tidbits about the role of these important family members. For instance:Grandma glued to her police scanner to stay in-the-know about all of those "no-goods" out there. Her investigative bent taught the grandkids good research skills.Grandpa taking off his hollow, wooden leg to show off the treasures he'd tucked inside. Hey, it beat the mattress—and inspired in his grandkids a healthy distrust of banks!Grandma staying with her 2-year-old grandson for a week and introducing him to all the different kinds of candy in the bulk section of the grocery store. From her, he learned to question authority. His parents'.Grandparents are precious. Sure, they're a little crazy-making sometimes, but aren't we all? Whenever you're tempted to lose your patience with granddaddy and maw-maw, grandmom and granddad, nana and gramps, or whatever your kids call your parents, just remember this: They are parents, too. Our guess is that there were probably plenty of times when they slapped a palm to their forehead and muttered to themselves, "I Shouldn't Have Had Kids." So, cut them some slack. Recently I've been feeling sh*t. I've been struggling with motivation, I'm feeling anxious about the prospect of another lockdown over winter, and the subsequent isolation. I'm confused, on-edge and exhausted, and I know that I'm not alone. But, I'm here to tell you, there's a reason we all feel sh*t right now. In fact, there are three, and in this week's episode, I dive deep into what they mean and the psychological evidence behind them. It's not all doom and gloom, because I reveal eight steps you can take RIGHT NOW to make you feel better - to improve your mental health and give you that all important boost of motivation. While researching for this episode, I learnt so much. I've been forced to take a long, hard look at myself and make small, but impactful changes to make me happier. I can't wait to share this with you. Hopefully, it'll help you as much as it helped me. So sit back, relax and enjoy this episode of "I Shouldn't Say This, But".

As the pandemic drags on and winter descends, darkness threatens to spread over the interior landscape of our souls.Wait. What is this? The opening of a psychological thriller? This week we tackle the thing on everyone's mind: How can we protect the mental health of our children during the dark months of winter? Yes it's going to be H-A-R-D. But you are absolutely capable of weathering the storm that's brewing. We've collected sage advice from experts—because god knows that's not us—and are bringing that advice to you this week, couched in our own irreverent look at life with kids. One thing is crystal clear. Flight attendants know what they're talking about. When it feels like the plane is about to fall out of the sky, the first thing we parents have to do is put on our own oxygen masks. Only then can we help our kids cope with the pandemic winter that's ahead.*Recorded four days before Donald Trump was diagnosed with COVID-19LinksThe Oatmeal: Giant Asian Hornets and a Nice, Tall Glass of "Nope"Time Magazine: The Coronavirus Seems to Spare Most Kids From Illness, but Its Effect on Their Mental Health Is DeepeningNPR Story: How We Can Mentally Prepare for a Pandemic WinterChild Mind Institute: How Mindfulness Can Help During COVID-19Follow us on social media!Instagram @ishouldnthavehadkidsFacebook ishouldnthavehadkidsTwitter @SHHKidsOr, email us :)ishouldnthavehadkids@gmail.comFind all episodes of I Shouldn't Have Had Kids wherever you get your podcastsBuzzsproutApple PodcastsSpotify
This week, I am joined by the brilliant Gemma Schmid, Head of Brand and Communications at Purplebricks, the most reviewed estate agent ever, disrupting how we buy and sell our homes. With the rising cost of UK properties, and lockdown's Stamp Duty holiday, we had A LOT to talk about. We discussed how Purplebricks weathered the storm of Summer, the struggles for first-time buyers, and how 2020 has drastically changed what people want from houses. We also chatted about Purplebricks' incredible partnership with Team GB, Gemma's best and worst moments from her impressive career, why she WANTS to get older and our shared love of Disney. This was an incredible conversation, with a wonderful guest. We had so much in common and her attitude towards work, the world and everything in between is truly inspiring. So, sit back, relax and enjoy this episode of "I Shouldn't Say This, But".
Exercise. They need it. We know it. But how to make it happen? Why does Minecraft win out over biking, Super Smash Bros beat a neighborhood run, or the promise of Among Us lure our kids back early from a summer swim? We know exercise is good for them, but what's the magical spoon full of sugar that will make the medicine go down? Little kids exercise without thinking – chasing each other, splashing in the shallows all day, or sledding until they can't lift their legs to climb the hill again. Somewhere near middle school, however, it all changes. That's where we come in. Parents, start your engines, because in the words of Madagascar's King Julien, it's time to move it, move it! One day they're in diapers; the next they're nervously picking up their first date, standing on the doorstep with sweaty palms because they're about to meet the parents. You, meanwhile, are sitting behind the wheel of the car trying not to stare. No, you're not stalking your child. You're actually the chauffeur because someone has to give these 13-year-olds a ride to the movies! You read that right. Dating at 13. It may be hard to believe but before you know it that sweet child of your loins will disappear into a hormonal pile of yearning and frantic text messaging until the big event itself: The first date. Then there's a second. And, as the third date comes barreling down the tracks, suddenly the soundtrack of your mind is all Marvin Gaye singing "Let's Get It On" over and over and over again. What is happening here? This is not your beautiful life!!That's when you understand that there MUST BE RULES—all kinds of rules—and you have no clue where to start. That's why you have us. Parenting in normal times is hard enough, but then you add in a little pandemic, a three-state inferno, political division the likes we've never seen, deadly policing, and for a little kick how about the start of a new school year with, yet again, distance learning and no one around to supervise. In the words of our current favorite meme:"At this point, if a clown invited me into the woods I would just go."Since that's not an option, couples are turning to an age-old response to stress. Fighting. Or, as we call it this week, Quarantine Quarreling. We're bringing insight, a few coping strategies and, as always, lots of laughs to this week's episode. So go ahead. It all started with Baby Cha-Cha. That creepy little dancing baby was the first modern meme and made its splash on Ally McBeal waaaay back in 1998. Nope. We're not kidding. 1998. We could never have imagined how that little meme would jump from television to the internet and spawn today's teenage digital language. Let's be honest: teens can have an entire in-person conversation with each other by sharing memes back and forth and never uttering a single word. It's a fricken' mystery. On this week's episode, we unpack the memes that started it all and the head-scratching inventions our teens are currently chewing on. Oh, and we laugh until we cry. When to let your kids meet the person you’re dating is just the first complicated decision you’ll face. Should the new love of your life spend the night? What role should they play in your family life? And when do you tell your ex about the interloper into his or her child’s life? Most people would rather poke their eye out with a fork than call up the ex with THAT news. We have insight. We have experience. AND we have our first bona fide guest on the show this week! When the social media platform NextDoor came on the scene, it seemed perfect. It provided a place for people to connect locally, share neighborhood information, and look out for one another. You know, a total love-they-neighbor kind of opportunity. But that Nirvana was short-lived. The platform has slowly devolved into a bickering, mean-spirited place for people to shout at each other in all caps, compete for the snarkiest comment award, turn any and all conversations into a political rant. It literally begs you to pour a glass of wine and curl up to watch the slugfest—unless of course, Fluffy goes missing. Then it's all hands on deck and everyone agrees that all cat lives matter. On this episode we share the good, the bad, and the ugly as we deconstruct a NextDoor bickerfest about whether or not there should be sex education in our schools. We would venture to bet that 80% of the people you’re about to hear from are 70 and older, with no kids in the house anymore! There is little a parent can do when it comes to teen love. You can't pick your child's crush because that would just be weird. And if you don't like said crush, well, you're out of luck on that one, too. No teen wants to hear a parent's criticism of their heart's true desire. About the only thing you can do when your teen has their first crush—or the next one or the next one or the one after that—is to be ready for the rare occasion when they ask your advice about how to handle love gone awry. Even when asked, you can rest assured they'll only listen to you about half the time. But one thing is certain. When love ends in loss, they'll come running to you for support while they lick their wounds and figure out if life is worth living. That's when you grab a decedent dessert, listen with love, and cap it all off with a little Titanic to let your son or daughter know that things could be worse. Much, much worse. When it comes to puppy love and loss, we've done some things right and some things very, very wrong. The end result is the same, however. Most of his childhood and adolescence (12 years) was spent in Vancouver, Washington. A week after Darin's seventeenth birthday, his father died of a heart attack. As the youngest and last of five children in the home, Darin became the man of the house. The school stage is where Darin's passion for acting began but he was also very into sports. After playing college football at Brigham Young University-Idaho, Darin finished his BA at the University of Utah. His football days led to his first acting role in the Disney film "Going To The Mat," working with Khleo Thomas as the football jock, "Yardley". The following year, Darin booked another role in Disney's "Halloweentown High," where he worked with Academy Award Nominated, Debbie Reynolds, as well as Teen Choice Nominated, Lucas Grabeel. Southam read for the role of Wylie in Disney's "Buffalo Dreams" and had the director all but convinced until he was asked his age (being 25 at the time). Though Darin is typically cast in younger roles, in this case, the director took Darin's age a bit too literally. Darin took a few roles in independent films and then landed a lead role in Discovery Channel's "I Shouldn't Be Alive."In spite of his brewing film success, with a young family, Darin relocated to California to pursue a law degree. Shortly after moving, he booked a role in "127 Hours" where he worked with Golden Globe Winner (and Academy Award Nominated), James Franco. Although the role turned out to be smaller than anticipated, as the entire wedding scene was cut from the final edit, it did steer Darin from law school. He withdrew after one semester to attend Playhouse West Acting School in North Hollywood. While studying there, he booked roles in a number of films, including the mountain man scout Ephraim Hanks in "Ephraim's Rescue," where he showed his ability to carry a film. Later, Darin was also direct-cast as a younger character version of PT Emmy Nominated, John Heard, in "Counting For Thunder." Not letting his law background go to waste, Darin followed by landing a supporting role as the lead Defense Attorney in "Just Let Go," where he worked opposite Emmy Nominated Henry Ian Cusick and Sam Sorbo (Jenkins). Most recently, Southam worked opposite Teen Choice Winner, Josh Lucas, on Yellowstone.Darin is also the writer and director of over 30 commercials and short films, including the third all-time highest funded short film on Kickstarter in 2017, "Reign of Judges: Title of Liberty Concept Short".- IMDb Mini Biography By: agent /publicistSupport the show (http://www.bookofmormonevidencestreaming.com)

You are a parenting ninja. You know it. Your friends know it. And, someday, your children will know it, too. So you're feeling a little cocky one day, throwing down wisdom you feel sure will shape your little darling into an amazing human being, when all of a sudden, BAM!!The tables turn. You become the student, and the 9-year-old standing in front of you, the receptacle into which you pour your knowledge and experience much as Yoda does with Master Luke, has become the teacher. Unexpectedly, you've just been handed a lesson from the crib. This week, we talk about the fact that we learn as much from our kids as they learn from us. It's a symbiotic relationship—think Nemo and the sea anemone. They help each other. They grow because of each other. We do the same with our kids. And when it comes to the symbiosis between parent and child, I think we both know who plays the clown fish. Just keep swimming. Just keep swimming.Show LinksCNBC Story: Dr. Faucci's baseball cards bringing in a cool $10KYouTube Proof! It starts out so innocently. Your baby boy or girl joins a team of 5-year-olds running onto the soccer field and chasing down a ball for the sheer joy of it. Before you know it, however, you are shelling out bank for private lessons, equipment, fees, and an airline ticket to some ball field in Arizona, hoping that a big athletic scholarship is in your superstar's future. What in god's name has happened to kids' sports?!We share all the mistakes we've made encouraging our kids to chase the proverbial gold ring in every sports arena known to mankind—soccer and baseball fields, basketball courts, and swimming pools are just the tip of the iceberg. And we answer the question, once and for all, of how our 6' 8" son could make it through high school and not be a baller. Hint: It all started with a bad coach. We have a co host today. We do. So Leo, do we have a stage name? I'm not sure if we quite do potentially have stage name, but we might we might have a stage name we might. And if we could, you may find out what that is. But unfortunately right now, well, maybe not for sure. Maybe fortunately, we'll say he's preoccupied. So we're going to now figure out the next step here. Why are we in the 0:32 wrong? 0:34 the wrong one but we are here getting ready for a second cup of coffee live. Over there on Facebook is where we are. Lucy has joined us. So we are we are set. We are there. Potentially. Hey, sir. So we're live. Okay, fine. Fine. So we've made it that that took a minute but we were already up there at Facebook, but we had a little guest today. So our first guest is that Leo Yarusi Leo is now joining us. We're not sure how much he's going to join us because he's actually potentially preoccupied essentially tired at the same time. So it is second cup of coffee live. We are here today and we 1:14 got a lot that we can talk about. We have a lot that we're going to talk about. You're super excited 1:19 about what we're talking about today. We're talking about 1:23 criticism. Sure. We sure are so if you're ready, 1:26 doo doo doo doo doo doo. 1:32 All right, we are live. 1:36 Okay, everybody. 1:38 My phone right now. 1:42 All right, so we're live. It is second cup of coffee. This is Jason. I don't know. I said this is Jason but I guess I guess we did. I guess we're singing that out there. So we're live. Go over there. super appreciate everyone's been checking in which can get great feedback. Great comments. So super appreciate everyone who is really and yes thank you so much we love you guys too. It's been awesome so far. So we got Leo and Leo on the show as we have a Leo off to start the day which is a great way to go. So lots moving forward lots talking and today we want to tackle or talk about criticism and there's a lot to criticism and there's there's so many ways in social media opens up where it's almost like you have criticism that's now one on one between you your circle or people you actually speak to. And then there's this whole other wave of criticism that exists now of, of almost like a battle that can can come up on social media where people maybe don't necessarily agree with someone's view or someone's take work. Ideally, they don't even listen or even read through it. And unfortunately, a lot of a lot of you know, headlines out there. Sometimes headline can be misleading to the actual point. So We want to talk about, you know, using criticism to your advantage because there's just there's days, there's times that you do want to listen to others you do want to take into account and ultimately you do want to hear what others are saying, because it allows you to have a different perspective or see from a different viewer, or maybe rethink what you're doing. But ultimately, you can't, you can't be afraid to, to not feel or not do what you feel is right. Just because criticism may come and it will, it will honor your point. I mean, you talk to any professional out there out there, their pride that some of the best cases is that you know, they're they're trying to do something at the highest level and they're getting attacked to probably you know, and we'll say let's say attack them right away. They're getting criticized and in a way that every time they go into a, a an opponent's arena. There are people there that that probably are seeing stuff that's not great. We're don't want good for that. See, right. So But they haven't dived in, you know, they may not see what that other team is, um, you know what they do behind the curtain. So like the charitable work or what they do to get to that point, it's just that my team is this. So that other team is no good. And sometimes that's a lot with criticism, you see a lot with, you know, anything, right? You can think about people bringing up something new as a new, you know, a new invention or new, whatever would be the case, right? So bring that in to say that, okay, we're going to try this, but since it hasn't been adapted, or hasn't seen before, you know, like, you can think of anything, right. So, you know, it turns great. And then it turns back, right, the introduction of the microwave, and then the microwave. You know, Expedia eats fast food and fast food becomes this great thing. And now, you know, you create these large sizes of fast food. So it's invention, but then it gets kicked back because now it's creating a whole nother Society of obesity. But now there's people that attack that at the same time, there's people that continue to push a message because that's, that's something that really continues to grow their narrative. So you have to look at how can The criticism helped me propel me. And it pushed me forward to use that if I know I'm doing right to, to move forward in a great way, or is another way that I can think of something to improve what I'm doing on, or do I just completely disregard it. You know, sometimes social media, you'll see people like Joe Rogan talk about you, when he posts you read the comments, because obviously, there's a lot there. And there might be one comment that could be helpful, but a lot of times as people, you know, there's a there's a certain point where you can stay in behind the keyboard, and there's no, no, there's no closest or proximity to the to the other person you're speaking to. So people will say stuff that are really aggressive, right? Because there's nothing there where where, in fact, if you put two people in the same room where they can have a conversation, and that conversation could be helpful where people could talk together? Well, you probably have a much different outcome because it's not people you know, standing on something where there's there's a dividing wall that covers you to quote the internet. 5:51 So if 5:54 that kind of just happened to be right now I was I went to go check social which is probably something I Shouldn't do before I before I go live to talk to everyone. But for the most part of my my social finds, finds the amazing people in the world. If you know me, I push kindness I push action and taking action through to positivity and good works and through faith and reaching out your hand to help people. So, and I'm gonna I'm kind of gonna quote Gary Vee on this because he was giving, he was giving a speech to a to a young lady who was dealing with the negative talk that was on her thread. So the thing is, people out there if you find that somebody has commented negatively on anything that you've posted, especially in these days, I challenge you to take a breath because they're criticizing you from a place within their It's something within them that feels the need to be hateful. Or disregarding of your feelings, especially if they don't know you. And like Jason said, there's, we have this screen we, I mean, technology today is amazing because we can reach out and touch each other in different ways. And sometimes those ways can be very, very negative. When that happens to you, I challenged challenge you. I'm having a hard time breathing right now, because it was it was mean. But I challenge you to react in kindness, compassion and sympathy. Because something in them is wrong. If you are coming from a place of light and goodness and kindness and you are coming from a place of 7:58 right 8:01 Right and wrong can be can be construed a whole bunch of different ways. And that's a whole different conversation that we can have at a later date. But if you're coming from kindness and you know, deep down the kindness is 8:14 then I challenge you to take a deep breath right now, folks, take the deepest breath, you can 8:23 reply if you're going to reply with kindness and compassion or don't reply 8:30 comes down to 8:32 what is it that can be great in relationships in partnerships in just life is just listening, right? I think we we talk and ultimate everybody wants to be heard. But if we spend too much time talking, then we're forgetting most important part in that that's listening, right? And that's listening on where where we can where we can help, right and if we're going to push forward and just react without really hearing then it's It's not going to create a solution, right? Because because we're pushing forward, right? So if I'm associate the running, right so so I've my reaction is that as I'm running and I'm 3040 5060 miles in, and it's my knee and my knees bugging me and hurting it there. I may say, Well, when my knees hurting, that's my initial reaction but but if I listened to my body, listen to the problem and look at what I'm doing it till it running on my hip that's caused some problems and he changed my running style. It's not so much my knee, but it's the, the position of my hip that's causing any problem or it's actually you know, the, the socks I have, like, I've worn compression socks and that time, I would think I'm having a problem I need it's because I've worn a different sock and I pull the sock too high and it's cutting them off the wrong circulation in a point in my leg and it's been producing pressure on my knee. So if we're so quick to react that this is the problem without thinking Through. Okay, let's stop looking at problems. Let's Let's rephrase everything what can we do to create a create a solution? And it's sometimes it's it's hard to do, right? Sometimes it's hard to say, Okay, I see the solution. I see the end. And you know, again back to running, right? If I was to say what a solution is to finish the hundred miles, yes. Okay, I got it. But what is the what is that first step right there. There's, there's now the ultimate goal, but then what does that immediate step we need to do? That gives us the ability to get to the ultimate goal. So going back to take criticism, right, yeah, we have to be using that to our advantage and to to one, learn to of course, continue to hear and to be better, but to we want to completely be, we want to be critical in the right ways to ourselves, right. constructive criticism is useful, useful in everybody's life. It helps you. You want people to look at what you're doing, because sometimes we get so close to an activity and if we're so close to it, we miss to certain points, right? It's like that, that part of that, hey, I need to get right there to the other side of that wall. And that is my destiny, my goal, and I just tunnel away and I beat away for years and years and years. I got there, I did it. I did it. But imagine took all that back. And within the first couple of days, you ask someone to come out there and give you some advice on what you're doing. And they say, Oh, I see. I get that and go, that's a super goal. And why don't you just walk over 10 feet, there's a door over there. And you go, wow. And you take that home and you walk over to get to the door, you've knocked all those years off your life, you accomplish the same goal, right? So it goes to what is the point that we can use criticism constructively to, to to our ability to continue to be to be better to be to be something that we want to continue to grow into and grow and be our best self. And it's it's a learning phase, right? It's always a learning phase. 11:54 Now I mean, when it comes down to it, criticism Can you can either use it for the positive You can use it for negative, whether it's good criticism and bad criticism. Sometimes the good criticism can be just as bad as the good stuff because you kind of, if you get too many people telling you, you're awesome, you're so cool. You're, you're all that, then you're resting on your lawyer laurels, you think you're doing the best job, whereas you could be doing even better. So what can you do to step it up to the next level? And then I always come back to this, it comes down because criticism is basically opinion and whose opinion matters the most? Like, is it yours? Or is it those of the outside world? Is it those and who are you going to listen to? Who are you really, really, really going to listen to Who are you going to reach out to say, I'm going to listen to you? Because the thing is, you could actually at least you can let criticism build you up. And or you can let criticism tear you down. So those that are meant to tear you down, find ways to take that criticism and turn it around into something that you can build on, or just ignore it, just simply ignore it. Because if it's not going to help you, then chances are, it's just going to hurt you. So just choose to be the bigger person and use the criticism, either good, or ignore it. 13:25 And sometimes you'd have to put your head down, move forward and not hear any noise because because they're appointed to listen, but there's also a point that you just have to push down move forward because there's always going to be someone who wasn't hasn't reached that level. They're they're not ready for their their, their, their, their minds, not at that point, or they're just they have different tracks or anything and you see this in all different points in you know, in school admissions and everything else and you have to think Well, okay, I just have to push forward because I know that this is what is helpful for the goal right and helpful, and I might goodness in what I'm doing. So I have to push forward to see what can come of it. And if you sit there and listen every point, you're just gonna waste a ton of time, but Also, you just have to continue to move and say, okay, you know, I can look back, or I can continue to push forward and doing what I'm doing. In my heart. I know this is the right thing. So we are we probably, yeah, so and I apologize over on over on Facebook, it looks like we got some things where it didn't quite quick over, click over for whatever reason, sometimes zoom plays tricks on us, but syllabi, right? So that's what it is so, so another day. So what are we working on? We are date 1314 to 75 heart rate day 1314. Yeah, it's cool that it's actually becoming pretty good and consistent here. It's now we've been doing intermittent fasting throughout. So really about 13 hours, give or take off and 11 on Yeah, and so that's been pretty consistent in about six and night and then again, about seven the next day. And that's, you know, that that's been good. It's been it's been engaging and you find that you just continue You know, we're pretty consistent with our with our diets anyway. So it's not a point but it's just we add on a layer just to give more of a more of a step for us to really just formalize because the more we do this you know, study how hard you do it and then then you use what you can into life right so now for us some of this continues to build and build into life. So when we stop the 75 days, not everything is that okay, we continue this but there's points of it that that continue to build and a lot of this says that you know, on, on mental toughness on an effort to push yourself through when things are not ideal, and really, one thing is perfect, right? There's there's perfect moments but situations that do not usually they don't work out as ideal. So we're gonna continue to grow as we do. And you know, in terms of our workouts, it is 15 minute mark, so it's halfway through your workout. Hopefully you're crushing out there because Matt 15:52 was doing a 50 as well. 15:57 Good, good. Well, 50 pushups a day policeman rocking them out. So So you're on day two? 16:01 And on day two, and I actually, I did, I did do the 50 push ups yesterday, within like six and a half minutes. Or not yesterday, the day before yesterday when they won. And then yesterday I did in four and a half minutes. So I'm getting better. Let's see what today brings is always the second day. 16:17 Yeah, to put two push ups to Yeah, so get stronger. Right. So I remember a while ago, when you were just really getting into the push ups. Right? So that's the point, right? You got to build into it, I think, you know, just start doing them, right? You build into it, and you have to figure out your rhythm, your pacing, and that goes with a lot of things. And everything you know, from from really just your how to raise your kids you know, you can't push, push, push, push on it, learn, learn, learn, you know, there has to be a part where you create that rhythm you create that consistency in the same thing with you know, just the way you work out the way you treat your finances. You have to create that, that ability to allow it to maximize through incremental gains. Right so for this That's been fun just knocking off 50 push ups, get that in and get into our workout. So it's been usually the lead in for my afternoon workout for that. So we are going to continue to move right, continue to have a good day here 17:10 and have a good day continue to push forward, continue to build upon everything that we are doing on a daily basis. If there's anything, if there's anybody out there that needs help, needs a know, if you just want to talk. 17:24 Yeah, so lots of these are topics that are coming up for you guys. So we thank you for sending over the topics tomorrow we're gonna talk about, you know, commitment, right, so So when you say something, to follow that up with action, right. So when you say you're gonna do something, well, let's do it. And that's the talk track for tomorrow. We're going to lead into their strong. It is Tuesday, it is Tuesday. Yeah. So after a short week, last week, went to a full week this week, but they roll into the kids. We got kids over there who who are going back to having to get some naps and because I've had some tired kids and maybe that's us doing a good job as a parent potentially. We're given too much activity one or 18:01 the other time, 18:02 outside a lot outside so it's been it's been super to have that. But we got our little point there a tears, tears from the youngest, which hopefully means that he just wants to sing a song but for that Happy Tuesday, second cup of coffee live. Thank you again for checking us out. See you tomorrow. 18:31 I forgot our outro but for that point we'll get to in tomorrow 18:44 Why did you not work? I could make out possibly three silhouettes huddled around the flames. Ben's area is pretty rough so this isn't an unusual sight, but I don't know how to describe it; Those figures weren't moving naturally. My view wasn't great because Ben wouldn't move closer than we were, but I swear those silhouettes never stood completely upright. Story 3:Scary Shadow Man Stories | Always ThereaAlways Therehttp://creepypasta.wikia.com/wiki/Always_ThereHe's always been there, ever since I can remember. Every time I went outside to play, I'd see him, lurking on the edge of my peripheral vision. He would always be still, staring at me, his cold, black eyes gazing into my face. He never used to come close to me, not when I was small. I would always see him across the street from my house, just standing there, watching me through the window.Music by Myuuhttp://www.youtube.com/myuujiMusic by www.purple-planet.com-------------------About Spooky BooSpooky Boo Rhodes is both an author and a podcaster. My guest this week is one of the most fortunate people you’re likely to meet. He should be dead many times over and his exploits have been covered in a Discovery documentary with the very cheerful title ‘I Shouldn’t Be Alive.’ My guest is Chris Moon. Chris knows exactly what it takes to overcome adversity and supposed limitations. He was blown up in Africa whilst clearing landmines for charity, losing his lower arm and leg. Less than a year after leaving hospital he completed the London Marathon and now runs the world’s toughest ultra-marathons. He’s also one of the few Westerners to have survived being taken prisoner by Khmer Rouge. In this week’s show, we find out why Chris was kidnapped by the Khmer Rouge and how he negotiated his release. How he defied all expectations to run the London Marathon after losing his lower right leg and arm in an explosion clearing land mines and why the biggest limits in life are those, we impose on ourselves often without even realising it. Bio Chris Moon is one of the most fortunate people to be alive you’re likely to meet. He should be dead many times over and his exploits have been covered in a Discovery documentary with the cheerful title I Shouldn’t Be Alive. Chris is a former British Army Officer with three years operational experience who left to work for a charity clearing landmines. He survived being taken prisoner in Cambodia by the Khmer Rouge (one of the most brutal terror groups in history) and negotiated his release and that of two colleagues from threatened execution. In 1995 he was blown up in a supposedly safe area of a minefield in remote East Africa losing an arm and a leg. He survived initially because he treated himself. About fourteen hours after injury he arrived in South Africa where doctors said they’d never seen anyone live with such a small amount of blood. He recovered three or four times faster than was expected, was out of hospital in less than two months and within a year of leaving hospital ran the London Marathon, raised significant sums to help disabled people in the developing world and successfully completed a full time Masters Degree. Chris Moon taught himself to run and is the world’s first amputee ultra distance runner. In 1997 he completed the gruelling Marathon De Sables. Since then he’s run the world’s toughest ultra-marathons, including the Badwater Death Valley 135 mile ultra and the West Highland Way 95 mile Race which he recently completed, while trialling a new running leg. He’s run numerous ultra-distance events and several one thousand mile events. When it comes to challenging the concept of limitation, adapting to change and overcoming adversity he literally walks the talk. Chris helps people do what they do better. He draws on his unique experiences to illustrate principles people can use in their daily lives. As well as a practical understanding of human performance in the most extreme situations and overcoming adversity, Chris also holds a Master’s Degree in human behaviour and management theory. As a speaker Chris delivers humour, passion and inspiration. Topics include change, motivation, risk and safety, communication, improving sales and personal and strategic leadership. He runs short workshops to improve individual and team performance & coaches and mentors a wide variety of executives. Quran Talk - God Alone, Quran Alone, Submission = True Islam
I Shouldn’t Be Alive (TV Show) - Skydiver stranded in middle of ocean should he stay on the log or try to swim to shore Happiness Now, and Forever [22:15] If anyone thinks that GOD cannot support him in this life and in the Hereafter, let him turn completely to (his Creator in) heaven, and sever (his dependence on anyone else). He will then see that this plan eliminates anything that bothers him. Baby umbilical cord Sometimes have to make the decision to throw it down Moses Staff [20:17] "What is this in your right hand, Moses?" [20:18] He said, "This is my staff. I lean on it, herd my sheep with it, and I use it for other purposes." [20:19] He said, "Throw it down, Moses." [20:20] He threw it down, whereupon it turned into a moving serpent. [20:21] He said, "Pick it up; do not be afraid. We will return it to its original state. Moses Mom throw him into the river [20:38] "When we revealed to your mother what we revealed. [20:39] "Saying: 'Throw him into the box, then throw him into the river. The river will throw him onto the shore, to be picked up by an enemy of Mine and an enemy of his.' I showered you with love from Me, and I had you made before My watchful eye. Sometimes God has us thrown down because He knows what is best for us Joseph was thrown into well Joseph's Fate Already Decided by God* [12:9] "Let us kill Joseph, or banish him, that you may get some attention from your father. Afterwards, you can be righteous people." [12:10] One of them said, "Do not kill Joseph; let us throw him into the abyss of the well. Perhaps some caravan can pick him up, if this is what you decide to do.” Believers are Blessed with God's Assurances [12:15] When they went away with him, and unanimously decided to throw him into the abyss of the well, we inspired him: "Some day, you will tell them about all this, while they have no idea." Joseph was thrown into prison [12:32] She said, "This is the one you blamed me for falling in love with. I did indeed try to seduce him, and he refused. Unless he does what I command him to do, he will surely go to prison, and will be debased." [12:33] He said, "My Lord, the prison is better than giving in to them. Unless You divert their scheming from me, I may desire them and behave like the ignorant ones." [12:34] His Lord answered his prayer and diverted their scheming from him. He is the Hearer, the Omniscient. [12:35] Later, they saw to it, despite the clear proofs, that they should imprison him for awhile. Jonah was thrown overboard /Jonah thrown to the shore Jonah [37:139] Jonah was one of the messengers. [37:140] He escaped to the loaded ship. [37:141] He rebelled and thus, he joined the losers. [37:142] Consequently, the fish swallowed him, and he was the one to blame. [37:143] If it were not that he resorted to meditation (on God), [37:144] he would have stayed in its belly until the Day of Resurrection. [37:145] We had him thrown up into the desert, exhausted. [37:146] We had a tree of edible fruit grown for him. [37:147] Then we sent him to a hundred thousand, or more. [37:148] They did believe, and we let them enjoy this life. Disbelievers Throw - When we throw for the wrong reasons we will be disappointed Moses & Magicians [7:112] "Let them summon every experienced magician." [7:113] The magicians came to Pharaoh and said, "Do we get paid if we are the winners?" [7:114] He said, "Yes indeed; you will even become close to me." [7:115] They said, "O Moses, either you throw, or we are throwing." [7:116] He said, "You throw." When they threw, they tricked the people's eyes, intimidated them, and produced a great magic. [7:117] We then inspired Moses: "Throw down your staff," whereupon it swallowed whatever they fabricated. Golden Calf [20:86] Moses returned to his people, angry and disappointed, saying, "O my people, did your Lord not promise you a good promise? Could you not wait? Did you want to incur wrath from your Lord? Is this why you broke your agreement with me?" [20:87] They said, "We did not break our agreement with you on purpose. But we were loaded down with jewelry, and decided to throw our loads in. This is what the Samarian suggested." [20:88] He produced for them a sculpted calf, complete with a calf's sound. They said, "This is your god, and the god of Moses." Thus, he forgot. [20:95] He said, "What is the matter with you, O Samarian?" [20:96] He said, "I saw what they could not see. I grabbed a fistful (of dust) from the place where the messenger stood, and used it (to mix into the golden calf). This is what my mind inspired me to do.” [20:97] He said, "Then go, and, throughout your life, do not even come close. You have an appointed time (for your final judgment) that you can never evade. Look at your god that you used to worship; we will burn it and throw it into the sea, to stay down there forever." Pharaoh and his troops [28:39] Thus, he and his troops continued to commit arrogance on earth, without any right, and thought that they would not be returned to us. [28:40] Consequently, we punished him and his troops, by throwing them into the sea. Note the consequences for the transgressors. [28:41] We made them imams who led their people to Hell. Furthermore, on the Day of Resurrection, they will have no help. Thrown in Hell [41:40] Surely, those who distort our revelations are not hidden from us. Is one who gets thrown into Hell better, or one who comes secure on the Day of Resurrection? Do whatever you wish; He is Seer of everything you do. [50:24] Throw into Gehenna every stubborn disbeliever. How do we know if we should throw How do you determine if you are testing God because you believe God will protect you so you take excessive risk Luke 4: 9Then the devil led Him to Jerusalem and set Him on the pinnacle of the temple. “If You are God’s chosen,” he said, “throw Yourself down from here. 10For it is written: ‘He will command His angels concerning You to guard You carefully; 11and they will lift You up in their hands, so that You will not strike Your foot against a stone.’c” 12But Jesus declared, “It also says, ‘Do not put the Lord your God to the test.’d” 13When the devil had finished every temptation, he left Him until an opportune time. [2:195] You shall spend in the cause of GOD; do not throw yourselves with your own hands into destruction. You shall be charitable; GOD loves the charitable. We do not go to war with a feather, God has a system and we do not go against that system [12:67] And he said, "O my sons, do not enter from one door; enter through separate doors. However, I cannot save you from anything that is predetermined by GOD. To GOD belongs all judgments. I trust in Him, and in Him shall all the trusters put their trust.” The Messenger's Kindness [3:159]…Once you make a decision, carry out your plan, and trust in GOD. GOD loves those who trust in Him. Are you breaking another one of God’s commandments in your decision? [35:8] Note the one whose evil work is adorned in his eyes, until he thinks that it is righteous. GOD thus sends astray whoever wills (to go astray), and He guides whoever wills (to be guided). Therefore, do not grieve over them. GOD is fully aware of everything they do. Are you giving power to other than God? [18:39] No one possesses power except GOD (Lã Quwwata Ellã Bellãh). Are you fearing other than God? [3:173] When the people say to them, "People have mobilized against you; you should fear them," this only strengthens their faith and they say, "GOD suffices us; He is the best Protector." [3:174] They have deserved GOD's blessings and grace. No harm ever touches them, for they have attained GOD's approval. GOD possesses infinite grace. Fear: The Devil's Tool [3:175] It is the devil's system to instill fear into his subjects. Do not fear them and fear Me instead, if you are believers. [5:54] O you who believe, if you revert from your religion, then GOD will substitute in your place people whom He loves and who love Him. They will be kind with the believers, stern with the disbelievers, and will strive in the cause of GOD without fear of any blame. Such is GOD's blessing; He bestows it upon whomever He wills. GOD is Bounteous, Omniscient.
