Chris Duffin sits down with the remarkable powerlifting virtuoso, Brianny Terry. Celebrated for her impressive lifts and consistency, Brianny opens up about her recent meet where she almost quit but instead rediscovered her love for the sport by lifting for fun. We explore not just her athletic achievements, but the values ingrained from her military family upbringing, her struggle and triumph in defining her identity beyond sports, and her steadfast commitment to mental and physical strength. Brianny shares profound insights into the pressures of social media, the importance of adaptability, and her evolving views on strength and femininity in powerlifting. From her meticulous training regimens and mental recovery techniques to her ambitions and personal philosophies, Brianny's story is a testament to resilience. She also discusses the supportive nature of the powerlifting community and the balance between competition and camaraderie.  Brianny Terry, a determined and resilient athlete, recently participated in her first FQ meet despite facing significant challenges just ten days before the event. During her preparation, she struggled with a 622-pound deadlift, failing twice—once due to strength and once due to her grip. The second failure resulted in a ripped hand, leading Brianny to doubt her chances of setting a new record. Though discouraged, she ultimately decided to continue, motivated by the support of her friends and the desire to experience the meet. Brianny's journey is a testament to her perseverance and determination in the face of adversity. Your Host Grant, Gives insight into his Reflection and Feedback FOLLOWING the 2023 U.S Open Winter Nationals. These types of episodes aim to show vulnerability and perspectives from an athlete after performing in a competition. While these won't be the thoughts that every athlete wrestles with, nor are they the challenges Grant encounters every meet, no competition will be the same. The best performers can adapt to the situations in which they are given. We hope that "check-ins" like these empower athletes, coaches, and any listener to be willing to be more vulnerable with themselves, their peers, and coaches to help further your understanding of internal athlete dynamics to better prepare for greater performances and life events. Understanding ourselves better will allow us to perform at a greater level not deter from it. "Anti-fragile doesn't mean I am not allowed to be emotional. I can press into a hard thing and burst into tears after it. Anti-fragile in stature doesn't mean I'm anti-fragile in emotion. We must allow ourselves to be human. In fact, in accepting and owning what I feel, I'm leaning into being anti-fragile. My emotion won't break me. I will use it to make me stronger." - Jeff Raker Hottakes - Snorkels are OVER-rated Relay Lane Line Ratings - Seasonal Weather YOU LIKE THAT?!?!?! - Vinland Saga Szn 2 + Racing Sponsors: Streamline Performance Physical Therapy- Reach out to Grant or "SPPT" on Instagram to start your PERSONAL Strength & Performance Programming OR start an in-person session with us in the VALLEY! Shifting my journey from being PTSD-dominant to embracing the PTG pathway marked the beginning of a profound transformation in my life. Today, I'm eager to share my insights with you, helping you understand the crucial distinction between PTSD and PTG and how each can lead to a remarkably different life journey.I'm here to offer you a pathway, a guide to navigate through the aftermath of the traumatic experiences you've endured. Did you know that there are five transformative domains of PTG? These domains are like pillars supporting the bridge to a brighter future: Personal Strength, Changed Priorities, Improved Relationships, Spiritual Growth, and a Deeper Appreciation for Life. Just imagine what a single incorporation of any of these domains could do for your life; now, envision the possibilities when you integrate them all.I'm here to teach you how to incorporate these domains into your life, making PTG an integral part of your healing journey. However, PTG wouldn't be the remarkable process it is without resilience. Together, we will explore the pivotal role that resilience plays in the journey towards Post-Traumatic Growth. Finally, I will equip you with three key strategies for enhancing your resilience, allowing you to build a stronger, more resilient version of yourself during this transformative journey. If all of this fills you with hope and a newfound desire to take back control of your life, then let's shift gears and start moving toward a brighter future. Together, we can embark on a journey that leads to a life filled with personal strength, redefined priorities, improved relationships, spiritual growth, and a deeper appreciation for the beauty of life itself. Growing up in Flagstaff, Arizona, Paul Fabritiz followed the example of his older volleyball-playing sister to increase his vertical jump. He also worked on his shooting and skills and became a college-level player. But every season, he seemed to suffer a major injury to his hands, wrists, or feet, and after playing at Mesa Community College and Northern Arizona University, Paul decided to focus his efforts on coaching. This led to him earning a degree in exercise and wellness. During his final year at Arizona State University, Paul hustled to build his nascent coaching business using an evidence-based approach. Doubling down after graduation, he began training ASU players and others who wanted to not only increase their vertical leap, but also become more durable on the court. When Rob Pelinka reached out about Paul training the NBA players and college-to-pros talents he represented at the time, Paul moved to Southern California and continued to grow PJF Performance into one of the most respected basketball training companies on the planet. In this episode, Paul shares: An easy way to manage your workloads to reduce injury risk and overtraining A simplified way to measure your own acute to chronic workload ratio Why he cringes when he sees basketball players using Olympic lifts in their training Why he teaches his bounciest athletes not only how to land, but how to fall properly tooThe secret training tip that the world's best professional DUNKERS all commonly useThe 3 strategies he used to boost his own vertical jump from 32”-47”Why every drill and exercise you do with basketball players should NOT be basketball-specific What a trial session with James Harden taught him about the power of authenticityHow Rob Pelinka giving him a chance to work with NBA players changed his coaching trajectoryTo learn more about Paul's coaching, visit his website and follow him on Instagram.

Through the fire of suffering we are forged and refined with a strength that comes from the Holy Spirit to endure anything to come. We get to live as Christ did, and to live sacrificially for the will of the Lord. We have a chance to speak boldly of the glorious Hope we have in our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ. The question we have to ask ourselves is, without knowing what's to come will we be able do it? To speak His saving grace, to live as He did on Earth regardless of opposition?

Today we are talking about an Action Step to help you be aware of the personal strengths and weaknesses as you build your team. Understanding your own personal strengths and weaknesses can give you a clear picture of what is missing from your business, and why it isn't growing as fast as you would like it to. A business must contain all the pieces necessary for it to grow and prosper. If you're missing just one piece, it will not be operating at its potential. Just as you did with your business's strengths and weaknesses, you will do for yourself and your team members. You can ask your team members to participate, by creating their own lists, but examine them with an objective eye because most people can't see or will not be honest about their strengths or weaknesses. As a business owner, it is important to be observant of the strengths and weaknesses of your team. This is why it's vital to keep a running strength and weakness list for you and your team. Revisit the list at least once per quarter and update it as needed. Consistently refine processes and procedures that employ the strengths of you and your team, while minimizing the weaknesses. The more consistent you are in this endeavor the more efficient and effective your business will grow. Over the past several days, we have explored 3 strategies for building a team that helps you build your firm's success, along with action steps to help you implement each strategy. Pick the most important strategy for you to implement, so you can have an effective team supporting you as you grow your firm to even greater success. SHOW NOTES: On this show…we are taking action, becoming our own superheroes, and saving ourselves. Now you might think, “yeah right, easier said than done!” and you would be right, words are not enough - it’s going to take action. Let’s not forget the famous credo of the infamous Spiderman, "With great power comes great responsibility." Saving the day is no easy task and who wants to do that over and over. After you swoop in and become the hero of your own life it’s time to be strategic. How can we harness this power for the good and make sure we spend our precious time wisely. Have you ever been asked, “if you could be a superhero what would be your power?” Seeing through metal, leaping tall buildings, breathing underwater?  Of course, it’s fun to fantasize about dressing up as an alter ego and fighting all the demons in our lives but the reality is, you do have power over your life. Even on the days your feel powerless, there is a phone booth just ready for you to change, empower yourself, and fly to your own rescue.  For fun, you can go to https://www.whatsyourpower.com/ and take a short quiz to find out what your superpower might be.  To get here or to be any help at all, I had to start with myself. I had things a little distorted, instead of helping to make the world a better place I wanted to FIX the people in my life to make my world a better place. Helpful? No, unproductive and frustrating. I had to grab my own oxygen mask first before I could assist anyone else.  Why is it that We Put Ourselves Last & Why Self-Care Should Be a Priority - Jo Ritchie gives us her insight on this in an article she wrote for Tiny Buddha. We think self-care means being selfish.  We confuse “rescuing” with caring. We are accustomed to relationships based on neediness, not real love. We don’t realize we teach people how to treat us. We expect others to take care of us. We don’t realize our worth. Finding a positive support system is paramount. Plugging into good people who want the best for you and guide you instead of hold you back is critical. Spending time connecting spiritually and listening, studying, and meditating is soul-nourishing. Saving yourself isn’t one act of bravery, it’s an ongoing meaningful mission.  Just as a superhero has powers and props to help them through any struggle - so do you!  Superheroes don’t wipe their problems away – they confront them. And they do so with very specific strengths of character. The physical powers are secondary, really, to their character traits. Being your own superhero means that you adopt those character traits, even if you don’t have X-ray vision. Patrick Cole gives us 8-Steps to Personal Strength in an article he wrote for everydaypower.com Use Failure and Adversity to Propel You Assess Your Mental Strength Name Your Powers Identify the Detractors/Weaknesses Listen to Your Inner Self and Respond Embrace the Negativity – Then Knock it Out of the Park Gather Your Weapons Stay True to Your Principles For too long I avoided me and my problems as I worked on saving everyone around me. I was convinced it was my purpose otherwise why did it feel like everyone needed me so much. My superhero mask must have been on backward because I was certainly in the dark. I had to take a good hard look at myself, my behavior, and start getting real. I had my own slew of problems that I wasn’t owning up to. Time to grow up and face the music instead of the firing squad. Marelisa Fabrega gives us some Rules of Adulthood in an article she wrote for daringtolivefully.com Persecutor: If you’re having a problem, or you’re facing an obstacle to achieving a goal that’s important to you, you’re likely to see that problem or obstacle as if it were a persecutor (the persecutor can be a person, an event, a situation, and so on). Victim: You act like you’re being victimized by the persecutor, and you feel helpless to do anything to remedy the situation. Rescuer: Since you feel like you can’t remedy the situation yourself, you wait passively for someone or something to come to your rescue. A lot of our culture is made up of this drama triangle. For example, you can recognize the drama triangle in stories that involve a damsel in distress, a villain holding her captive, and a hero who sweeps in to rescue her. Of course, this dynamic doesn’t apply just to women; it applies to men as well. A lot of us are harboring rescue fantasies. Be honest with yourself: is there an area of your life in which you’re passively waiting for a stroke of luck or for someone to come out of the blue and save you? Are you telling yourself, “Someday, when this or that happens, I’m finally going to be able to . . .” Stop waiting for a rescuer or for some chance event to take place, and begin taking steps to rescue yourself. CHALLENGE: take a look in the mirror, explore your denial and your truth, abandon your belief that your powers are not to be used for your own rescuing, and take action today. Saving your world is a worthy cause.    I Know YOU Can Do It!

In her book, Ellen encourages readers to find or redefine themselves and learn what their engaging qualities are and who they want to surround themselves with. In the interview we talk about how Dr. Barry Johnson developed the Polarity Map™ following a Gestalt Therapy session with a client. When talking about his sad mess of a childhood, author Augustine Boroughs' fantasy of normalcy resembled to that of "fabric-softener, tuna-salad-on-white, PTA-meeting normal". In his autobiography, Running with Scissors, Boroughs writes about his guardian conjuring a mental health excuse by giving him the directive to pop pills, drink liquor and fake his own suicide so that he could get out of going school. As a reader you can't help but think in what ways these childhood experiences shaped Boroughs' life views. Being prepared to respond to life's events as you know best and to bounce back from personal, social, and societal adversity is the hallmark of resilience. Our guest, Dr. Robert Brooks, returns with his brilliant insights to help us make the connections between resiliency, self-discipline, and parenting and how the we must place great importance on the idea of goodness of fit!About Robert Brooks, Ph.D.Dr. Robert Brooks is a psychologist on the faculty of Harvard Medical School (part-time) and former Director of the Department of Psychology at McLean Hospital, a private psychiatric hospital.  He has lectured nationally and internationally and written extensively about such themes as motivation, resilience, school and work climate, parenting and family relationships, and balancing our personal and professional lives.  He is the author or co-author of 17 books including “Raising Resilient Children,” “The Power of Resilience: Achieving Balance, Confidence, and Personal Strength in Your Life,” “Handbook of Resilience in Children,” and “Children's Classroom Behavior: Creating Sustainable, Resilient Classrooms.”Websitehttp://www.drrobertbrooks.com/BooksThe Happiness Advantage by Shawn AchorDrive by Daniel PinkPositivity by Barbara FredricksonRethinking Positive Thinking by Gabriele OettingenSupport the show (https://mailchi.mp/7c848462e96f/full-prefrontal-sign-up)

Roberto Benigni's critically acclaimed role in the movie Life is Beautiful, which earned him an Oscar, poignantly illustrates what a caring, charismatic adult does to shield a young boy from the horrors of captivity in a concentration camp as they were thrown into the atrocities of war. With his resilient ways, Guido Orefice, the father in this movie, interacts reassuringly with his son and helps him gain a sense of control over his life in the midst of chaos. The question then arises: Are all adults inherently equipped to cast a positive influence on a child? When polled, American adults always indicate their genuine concern for the budding American youth; however, children of misfortune are often stamped from the beginning with heavy odds weighing against their wholesome development. Researchers agree that the consistent factor that tips the scale in a child's favor is a caring and influential adult. On this episode, psychologist and prolific author, Dr. Robert Brooks, whose expertise includes resiliency, motivation, and parenting, talks about the role of a charismatic adult in developing well-adjusted children.About Robert Brooks, Ph.D.Dr.

There are a few things we can be certain of in life, and one of them’s mortality; but before we get to the end of our road, there’s a life to be lived -- one with battles and triumphs, and that’s hopefully meaningful and fulfilling. Listen in as Dr. Robert Brooks, a clinical psychologist at Harvard Medical School, shares his research and expertise on how you can create a gratifying life against all odds at any moment in your life. Robert’s a former Director of Psychology at McLean Hospital. He has lectured both nationally and internationally and has written extensively on such topics as parenting and family relationships, balancing our personal and professional lives, positive school and work environments, and nurturing resilience in ourselves and others. Robert’s authored and co-authored 17 books including Raising Resilient Children, The Power of Resilience, Achieving Balance, Confidence and Personal Strength in Your life and his most recent book, Reflections on Mortality: Insights Into Meaningful Living. Get ready to unlock your full potential to living a more meaningful, resilient life. Key takeaways: Transforming your outlook. What does a meaningful life look like to you? It’s a question that can keep you up at night. Your instinct’s to first focus on the negative in your life, but studies show there’s a whole different way to approach this question. Ready to give it a try? Ask yourself THIS to reveal its answer…[03:07]. Calling your champions. We watch their stories on the news, read about their grueling backstories, and even meet people who’ve faced such deep adversity in their past and still come out the other side FULL of optimism and hope – but how? Wonder no more! The ONE thing every survivor knows is this… [09:03]. Breaking your solitude. It can be a hard, lonely world out there. Full of unknowns, different personalities, and endless opportunities – sometimes the thought of reaching out can seem too overwhelming; but to create a meaningful, fulfilling life, it’s a must. Try these TWO things to get you started…[15:58]. Embracing your fate. Research has shown that building resilience starts when you wake up and feel that you can make a difference in the world. It’s the positive mindset that can liberate you. The same can be said about the reflection on mortality. Ask yourself this ONE question and be free of dreading the great unknown…[33:33]. Tune in and turn the volume up for a dose of inspiration and life lessons. You're never more than One Idea Away from a whole, new reality.

It can be extremely hard to get out of your own head. People get distracted by their to-do list, by stresses of life, what they must do for work. They're distracted by concerns that are keeping them up at 4:00 in the morning. A lot of people, even if they aren't distracted, are so used to thinking and analyzing, it's called being up in your head instead of in your body. And the ability to drop into your body and be present and feel what you're feeling and be in the moment it's important. And it's certainly important in sex and in connecting with a partner. There are practices like mindfulness, which is popular, learning to meditate, learning to get into your body, learning to let go of thoughts. Those are powerful. But another thing along those lines is Tantric practice. Most of us think about Tantra as some sort of mysterious sexual training or activity but it's really about getting out of your mind and into your body and into the moment and connecting intimately with yourself and with other people. Tantric practitioner and teacher Matthias Rose has a wealth of knowledge and experience and a passion for sharing this with people. He and his wife Pandora Rose sort of discovered Tantra on their own. They kind of tripped into it having sort of mystical experiences with each other and their own sexual relationship. And from there it opened their eyes to "where is this coming from, how do we learn more about this?" He went on to learn a lot about Tantra and get more formal training in it. He's based in Seattle and he offers events and workshops. He's got a community space and he does private coaching and healing sessions with people and he agreed to be on the show today. During this delightful conversation, we talk about the history of Tantra and clear up some common misconceptions surrounding its association with sex and yoga. Matthias informs us what to look for in a Tantric Healer and Practitioner. We also cover some easy exercises you can use to begin to incorporate the healing power of Tantra in your life today and so much more. Matthias believes Tantra can bring rapid transformation to sexual intimacy, emotional connection, and any major stumbling blocks in life. Sam Lillie is the founder/CEO of Vinder, a peer-to-peer marketplace for homegrown produce that connects home gardeners who hate seeing their excess veggies go to waste, with fellow community members looking to buy local produce. Sam graduated from San Jose State in 2015 then solo-hiked from Mexico to Canada on the Pacific Crest Trail (2,658 miles) which took 5 months to complete. While hiking, Sam faced extreme weather conditions from 105+ degree heat in the desert with 20-30 miles distances between water sources to snow storms and lightening storms. After 3 months he figured he'd put his degree to good use and applied to 106 jobs across 4 states but only received one offer. He turned it down, moved to the small town of Port Townsend, Washington and launched Vinder. I am so excited about this startup and cannot wait to follow this over the years. This episode talks about how developing personal strength can assist in startup perseverance and much more: Sam's 5 month journey on the Pacific Crest Trail Adapting to "real life" post hike How to deal with challenges that come your way Conceiving the idea and starting Vinder Creating the AirBnB of homegrown produce Pivoting an idea and winning the Silicon Valley business plan competition The viral coefficient for your startup Community building via Vinder Plans for expansion across the United Statse The disaster relief program

SUPERNATURAL ENCOUNTERS - Supernatural Series, 03.06.16 “Truly, truly, I say to you, he who believes in Me, the works that I do shall he do also; and greater works than these shall he do; because I go to the Father.” John 14:12 THE PURPOSE OF A SUPERNATURAL ENCOUNTER IS TO GIFT ME WITH - POWER OVER SIN & POWER TO MINISTER! Jesus said, "You shall receive power [dunamis] when the Holy Spirit has come upon you; and you shall be witnesses to Me in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the end of the earth." Acts 1:8 The Apostle Peter Spoke Life Into Limp Legs. "Then Peter said, silver and gold I do not have, but what I do have I give you: In the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, rise up and walk. And he took him by the right hand and lifted him up, and immediately his feet and ankle bones received strength. So he, leaping up, stood and walked and entered the temple with them-walking, leaping, and praising God. And all the people saw him walking and praising God." Acts 3:6-8 Stephen Described Heaven And Forgave His Murderers. “But being full of the Holy Spirit, he gazed intently into heaven and saw the glory of God, and Jesus standing at the right hand of God; and he said, “Behold, I see the heavens opened up and the Son of Man standing at the right hand of God.” Acts 7:55-56 “And falling on his knees, he cried out with a loud voice, “Lord, do not hold this sin against them!” And having said this, he fell asleep.” Acts 7:80 Philip’s Body Was Miraculously Transported. "And when they were come up out of the water, the Spirit of the Lord caught away Philip, that the eunuch saw him no more: and he went on his way rejoicing But Philip was found at Azotus." Acts 8:26-40 Ananias Prayed Away The Scales From Saul’s Eyes. "And Ananias went his way and entered the house; and laying his hands on him he said, "Brother Saul, the Lord Jesus, who appeared to you on the road as you came, has sent me that you may receive your sight and be filled with the Holy Spirit. Immediately there fell from his eyes something like scales, and he received his sight at once; and he arose and was baptized. Acts 9:17-18 Agabus Correctly Predicted Paul’s Sufferings. "And as we stayed many days, a certain prophet named Agabus came down from Judea. When he had come to us, he took Paul's belt, bound his own hands and feet, and said, thus says the Holy Spirit, 'So shall the Jews at Jerusalem bind the man who owns this belt, and deliver him into the hands of the Gentiles.' Acts 21:10-13 The Apostle Paul Raised A Sermon Sleeper From The Dead And Shook Off A Poisonous Snake. "And in a window sat a certain young man named Eutychus, who was sinking into a deep sleep. He was overcome by sleep; and as Paul continued speaking, he fell down from the third story and was taken up dead. But Paul went down, fell on him, and embracing him said, 'Do not trouble yourselves, for his life is in him.' Acts 20:9-10 "But when Paul had gathered a bundle of sticks and laid them on the fire, a viper came out because of the heat, and fastened on his hand. So when the natives saw the creature hanging from his hand, they said to one another, 'No doubt this man is a murderer, whom, though he has escaped the sea, yet justice does not allow to live.' But he shook off the creature into the fire and suffered no harm." Acts 28:3-5 BIBLICAL PATTERNS OF SUPERNATURAL ENCOUNTERS. #1.
