On this episode of Rehash, we speak with Ethereum OG, Hudson Jameson, about his experiences and learnings from actively working in the Ethereum ecosystem since 2015, as well as his personal story of experiencing burnout and his journey with mental health.Hudson is a developer who first learned about Bitcoin in 2011 and went on to create and launch the blockchain program at USAA in 2014 and join the Ethereum Foundation in 2016, where he worked until 2021. In 2019 while working at the Ethereum Foundation, Hudson also co-founded the Ethereum Cat Herders, an educational platform and research hub that supports the Ethereum Network. In this episode, we start off by talking about some of Hudson's learnings from his time in Ethereum, including what he believes to have been the most pivotal moment in Ethereum history, how the community and culture around Ethereum has changed since 2015, and the biggest learnings from mistakes made during Ethereum's time that other blockchains or crypto projects can learn from today. We then get into his takes on the current state of Ethereum and L2s, how he sees L2s interacting in the future, and a new whistleblowing use case for blockchain tech that he would love to see get built out. Finally, we wrap up with a conversation on dealing with burnout in crypto as Hudson shares his own burnout story that landed him in a mental hospital twice and inspired him to get much more involved in his own mental health journey. It's a story that is all too relatable to those working in crypto, and Hudson shares his honest and raw thoughts on what we can do to protect our mental health while working in crypto, as well as what institutions and employers can do to support individuals. COLLECT THIS EPISODEhttps://www.rehashweb3.xyz/ FOLLOW USRehash: https://twitter.com/rehashweb3Diana: https://twitter.com/ddwchenHudson: https://twitter.com/hudsonjameson LINKSHudson's blog: https://hudsonjameson.com/The Infinite Machine by Cami Russo: https://www.amazon.com/Infinite-Machine-Crypto-hackers-Building-Internet-ebook/dp/B07X8HS2WCThe Cryptopians by Laura Shin: https://www.amazon.com/Cryptopians-Idealism-Greed-Making-Cryptocurrency-ebook/dp/B08Y8MQ66ZBlog on what “Ethereum alignment” means: https://hackmd.io/@abdelhamid/ethereum-alignmentDEVCON: https://devcon.org/en/The Plasma Paper (2017): https://www.plasma.io/plasma.pdfSEAL project updates: https://twitter.com/samczsun TIMESTAMPS0:00 Intro3:19 Hudson's favorite things4:53 Most pivotal moments in Ethereum history5:38 Biggest mistake in Ethereum history9:55 How culture and community in Ethereum has changed since 201516:00 What does “Ethereum alignment” mean?18:08 Most overlooked aspect of Ethereum19:53 Hudson's most fond memory of his time at the Ethereum Foundation22:07 Technical knowledge that non-technical people should have25:14 Hudson's product review of Ethereum26:27 State of L2s32:19 Whistleblowing blockchain app34:37 Hudson's mental health journey and burnout story40:30 How to avoid burnout in crypto46:29 How crypto companies can support their employees' mental health52:06 Hudson's final thoughts54:15 Question from the community56:00 Follow Hudson DISCLAIMER: The information in this video is the opinion of the speaker(s) only and is for informational purposes only. The Scoop
Camila Russo on Ethereum's biggest origin stories

The crypto bull market in 2017 inspired journalist Camila Russo to tell the story behind the creation of Ethereum. Russo's book, "The Infinite Machine," has caught the attention of Ridley Scott, whose production company Scott Free Productions has signed on to co-produce the film adaption. Ridley Scott is best known for helming such blockbusters as "Gladiator", "Alien", "Blade Runner", "Thelma & Louise", among many others. In this episode of The Scoop, Camila Russo recounts how her personal experience using crypto in South America showed her the advantages of decentralized systems and shares some striking revelations from time spent researching the origins of Ethereum. According to Russo, an important early dispute among Ethereum's eight cofounders centered around Ethereum's business model: "It was, 'Are we are we building a foundation to encourage building on top of this open source platform?' or, 'Are we building a for-profit company that's going to make tons of apps on top of this protocol?' . . . At the end of that, Vitalik had to make the call, and he decided that this would be a nonprofit foundation."One takeaway Russo hopes readers get from her book is the idea that "there is an alternative being built," when it comes to things like the internet (web3) and our financial system (DeFi). As of yet, there is no release date for the film adaptation of "The Infinite Machine," although the community has created an NFT collection to raise funds for the film. This week we have a special episode! We invite a couple of job market candidates to give us their pitch and we have a panel of judges identifying the great things about each pitch and broad lessons for everyone who is crafting the pitch for their paper. The "elevator" pitch is an idea whose objective is to talk about a particular paper to motivate a conversation. Usually job market candidates have to "craft" a pitch since they'll be constantly asked about their job market paper. It is not easy and there are many takes on how to get this done, this is why in this episode we have the hot takes from two professors. Our first panelist is Mary Eschelbach Hansen, she is a professor of economics at American University. Our second panelist is Zach Bethune, an associate professor of economics at Rice University. We have four candidates who have share their pitches with us: Laura Montenovo a PhD student at Indiana University. Job Market Paper Ashley Bradford a PhD student at Indiana University. Job Market Paper. We hope this is useful to both JMCs and early career scholars honing their skills on marketing a paper. Alex Hollingsworth is an Assistant Professor of Economics at the O'Neill School of Public and Environmental Affairs in Indiana University. This book traces how and why bankruptcy was transformed from an infrequently used provision in the Constitution, to an indispensable tool for businesses, to a central element of the social safety net for ordinary Americans— all in less than a century. The Coin Bureau Podcast: Crypto Without the Hype

Normal service is being resumed this week, as we take our final look (for now) at Ethereum.  The project which started off as an idea in the head of a supremely gifted, 19-year-old Bitcoin enthusiast has now grown into a behemoth. It underpins a huge sector of the crypto industry and has triggered an avalanche of development, both of projects looking to build on top of it and of projects looking to emulate or outdo it. Without Ethereum, crypto would look completely different. In this episode, we bring the history of Ethereum up to the present day and look at what is currently going on with the project. We'll see how the original model of Ethereum has proved unable to cope with demand and how the switch to a new, proof of stake network is looking to resolve the issue. Exciting times lie ahead. We'll also look at the first NFT project to get Ethereum users excited and how it illustrated the need for the network upgrade we're now witnessing. We'll also look at some other projects looking to improve the Ethereum experience and look ahead to what the future holds.  One final shoutout for those two books about Ethereum everyone should read: The Infinite Machine (2020) by Camila Russo  The Cryptopians: Idealism, Greed, Lies and the Making of the First Big Cryptocurrency Craze (2022) by Laura Shin We hope you enjoy the show. Ken Seiff is the managing partner of Blockchange Ventures, one of the longest-standing venture funds focusing on early-stage blockchain startups. One of his very first forays into crypto was as one of the investors in Ethereum's token sale, as I describe in my book, The Infinite Machine. He went on to focus on various other Layer 1s at Blockchange, investing in Polkadot, Solana, Near and Flow, among others. Ken's investments look to capture not just the potential value of the venture itself, but the overall growth of a space that is still in its infancy, and his bet is that taking exposure at the base protocol layer is the best way to do that. Good morning! As the title says, Ooga ooga! I aped in on Dope Wars PAPER and the Infinite Machine Movie NFT collection. I finally found a P2E game I think I will actually play. With 8-bit LoFi versions of all my favorite 90's rap playing through the WinAmp player, I browse through the DopeWars.gg website and see that I can get all the OG computer game radness without Mom picking up the phone from the other room and ruining my 12 hour download. This p2E is built on Ethereum and Starkware! The first of it's kind! Then, I move on to The Infinite Machine Movie collection. Finally, Ethereum history has made it to the big silver screen. They are funding their movie in true Ethereum form as well by the sale of the limited edition NFT. These NFT's will let you be interactive and participate in the movie. It also lets the fans get directly involved and support their favorite projects and have some sense of ownership in the project's success. Camila Russo is a Chilean-American financial journalist. In 2020 she founded The Defiant, a media platform that has quickly become one of the most trusted and respected news sources in the world of decentralized finance, more known as crypto.  You’ve heard of crypto. You’ve heard of Bitcoin. You’ve heard of Doge. If you’re into sports you’ve probably heard of the digital collectible sports cards. You may have even heard of the mysterious non-fungible tokens, the NFTs. It’s the cutting edge of finance and technology and to most people, it sounds like the intersection of digital witchery and Ponzi schemes and there is certainly a good share of speculation and let’s be honest unkosher activity in that field and yet, many believe it’s the future. Full disclosure, I do. But I’m not here to sell you on it, as they say, do your own homework.  What I am excited to do - it to introduce you to Camila. Who is not some TikTok “crypto influencer,” she is a real solid financial journalist, Northwestern grad, who cut her teeth at Bloomberg and now she is focusing on crypto. It makes me extra happy that a woman, an immigrant, and a Latina is at the helm of the best platforms in the space.   And while I’m on this fangirl kick over here... I want to tell you about Camila’s book - The Infinite Machine, which was published by HarperCollins in 2020 and is a great introductory book for anyone who is curious in this space. It’s the first book on the history of Ethereum. It’s an easy and exciting read because besides breaking down the basics of what crypto is - the book focuses on the stories of the people, who are building this future technology.
