It's 2025, and women are still fighting to be believed, especially in medicine. From being told “it's all in your head” to waiting years for a real diagnosis, many women know the silent sting of being dismissed. This experience has a name: medical gaslighting — and it's more common than you might think. In this powerful episode of Get Back to Your Life®, we meet Jakki, a VSI patient, mental health counselor, former athlete, and mother of three who endured 24 years of pain, misdiagnoses, and blatant medical dismissal. But Jakki refused to accept “there's nothing wrong.” Her story is a testament to persistence: when no one could explain her pain, she enrolled in radiology courses just to read her scans. Eventually, she found her answer — and her healing — through a diagnosis of Bertolotti Syndrome with Dr. Colin Haines at VSI. This is a breakthrough story for women everywhere. Jakki's comeback story is one of strength, self-advocacy, and breakthrough — not just in her body, but in a system that too often turns down the volume on women's pain. In this episode, you'll learn: What medical gaslighting looks and feels like Why being dismissed can be so dangerous How to advocate for yourself in the healthcare system The signs that it's time to seek a second opinion How persistence - and the right doctor - can change everything Whether you, too, have been talked over, brushed off, or are still searching for your own answers, this episode will stay with you. This is a story about validation, self-advocacy, hope and most importantly….solutions. And it demands to be heard. In this podcast episode, the guest Jakki from Berkshire shares her personal journey to sobriety. Jakki is 33 years old, married for two years, and has two stepsons and a dog. Unlike some, she didn't grow up in an environment of excessive drinking, but like many teenagers, she began drinking alcohol at a young age.The turning point in Jakki's relationship with alcohol occurred during the COVID-19 lockdown. She began to feel "sober curious" in 2021, questioning her drinking habits. To explore her sobriety further, she attended Alcoholics Anonymous (AA) meetings but found that it wasn't the right fit for her.Ultimately, Jakki made the life-changing decision to quit drinking for good on September 24, 2022. She offers three valuable tips for those looking to embark on a similar journey:Find Alternative Alcohol-Free Drinks: Jakki suggests seeking out non-alcoholic beverage options to replace traditional alcoholic drinks. This can help ease the transition to sobriety.Listen to Your Body and Its Needs: Paying attention to your body's signals and what it needs is crucial. This involves self-care, both physically and emotionally, to support your well-being.Connect with Nature and Educate Yourself: Jakki recommends spending time in nature, which can be therapeutic and calming. Additionally, she highlights the importance of educating oneself through books and podcasts, which can provide valuable insights and motivation during the sobriety journey.Jakki's story serves as an inspiring example of someone who chose sobriety and found their own unique path to a healthier and happier life. Her tips can be valuable for anyone considering or on their own journey to sobriety.

“A loving being isn't domineering and a loving being is not going to judge you and certainly isn't going to test you. A loving being, a loving energy, and you can call that energy God, or again, it doesn't matter to me what people call it, when you call in forces of love, it is forces of love. What does love want? Love wants for you, what you want for yourself. Love wants to support you in ways that are in grace and patience. And so when you call it, it's coming in and saying, how can I help you? What do you need? How can I support you in the light? It's not gonna say, oh, you know what? I know you really wanted this, but too bad. But oftentimes, you know, we think that we get tested by the divine universe. No, we don't. We get tested by the shadow. Are you gonna come and agree with me again, that you're less than? Are you gonna come and agree with me again that you should be afraid? And that's when the answer has to say no. I'm actually gonna agree with the fact that I can trust in my own capability because I'm a divine being of the light. And when I tune into those energies, there's a whole force field of energy that is coming and welcoming me, and also joining me in my intention.” So says Jakki Leonardini, a highly clairvoyant energy healer. I originally met Jakki through my friend Kasey Crown, a trauma therapist—the duo host WellSoul Workshops several times a year and while I've never been to one, friends tell me they are actually life-changing, because the combination of Kasey and Jakki's wisdom and expertise addresses each person, on every level. When you work with Jakki, she explains that we all have intuitive gifts, and that they're a skill and not a gift. And yes, we may live in very material bodies, with very complex minds, but we're all animated by energy—energy that's highly influenced by the world. Understanding this is the first step toward keeping ourselves well. Over the years, I've worked with Jakki a lot on the idea of “fear” and how this animating and very human idea gets its power—she has a lot to say about this, as you'll hear in today's conversation. Energy healing is very nebulous and confusing, but hopefully Jakki's framework will give a context to make it all more palpable, and easy to access in our lives. She's even designed an app called My Soul Vibe, which uses the quality of your voice to track your energy—it's pretty fascinating. Abortion rights and abortion access have been issues at the forefront of the political world for decades, and especially so this year with the overturning of Roe v. Wade. One of the ways that abortion rights advocates work to maintain access is to help fund abortion services for people in need of assistance. These abortion funds have appeared and grown all over the country. This week on Renoites we're joined by Jakki Durón, the current Vice President of the Wild West Access Fund, a Nevada abortion fund that has grown from a small mutual aid group into a non-profit that has distributed over $100,000. Conor and Jakki discuss the Wild West Action Fund and abortion funds in general, the history of abortion stigmatization, financial restrictions like the Hyde Amendment, the intersection of abortion rights advocacy and liberation movements, modern and inclusive language around gender identity, and much more! It was a very informative conversation and one that is very important for this moment. Thanks for listening. Dr. Jakki Bailey, assistant professor and director of the Immersive Human Development Lab at the University of Texas at Austin, shares her expertise on childrens' uses of virtual reality technology. She shares some humorous moments from her research (e.g., “I wish I could do this [in VR] for forever”), describes some potential concerns about safety for kids in VR and succinctly explains the fundamental psychology behind why kids use and respond to VR differently than adults (e.g., executive function and impulse control). She also describes how kids perceive characters and avatars in VR, how her “Designing User Interfaces for Children” class prepares students to build the metaverse for children and the ways in which education in VR might be able to exceed the quality of current educational experiences. Her expertise on this important but all-too-often underappreciated topic is rare and valuable. Our guest in this episode is Physiotherapist, Pilates teacher, Gyrotonics teacher and Breathability practitioner, Jakki Tobin from the Pilates Centre Mosman in Sydney.[01:15] Jakki describes how she discovered Pilates while working as a newly qualified physiotherapist in the late 90s at a London teaching hospital. She tried some mat classes held on site and was blown away.[03:40] Bruce and Jakki contrast knowing anatomy intellectually with their reactions to experiencing Pilates in their own bodies.[06:05] Jakki's training and integration of Pilates into everything else she was doing and how her family and fellow physiotherapists reacted.[08:37] Jakki recalls her shock at discovering how inflexible her shoulders were and how the effect of working on them under the guidance of a Pilates instructor, eased her headaches.[11:09] Jakki says there were no negatives to her training, but she did feel the odd one out amongst the ballerinas.[13:17] Jakki lists some of the people who inspired her along her journey – fellow Pilates and Gyrotonic instructors, and Mollie Joyce who partnered with her to buy into the Pilates Centre Mosman.[16:14] Jakki talks about her studio – its history, the variety in the clients and how it is a beautiful space where people can grow in confidence, and how the diversity means she is never bored.[18:57] Bruce and Jakki recall their shared Gyrotonics training.[19:34] Jakki explains the roadblocks along the way when clients don't “get it” and how her search for new skills led to Gyrotonics and then learning about breathing. [21:59] “Pure Pilates” for Jakki is connecting with the mind and body. [23:25] Her breath journey began with a five-day physiotherapy course that was not what she was expecting. [26:25] Bruce asks about the changes Jakki has experienced through breath work and Jakki mentions better sleep, more energy and easy breathing when running. [29:14] The biggest turning point for Jakki was the commitment of buying a studio.[31:02] The changes in Jakki that she couldn't have imagined at the start of her movement journey have been the mind body connection, tuning into a deeper part of self and having more tolerance of others and empathy.[33:21] Jakki's plans for the future have been shaped by all the changes that have happened in the last few years like COVID. With the help of Shani Morton and the team, Jakki has taken the business in new directions. Me too.I'm sure you have had those moments that changed or altered your perspective on a topic. It might have been a comment, an article, a book, or a Podcast (shameless plug)! In today's media coverage, it can be challenging to understand different ideas and interpretations when the nightly news allows for only a few minutes at most of actual discussion. I created the Strong and Free Podcast to explore news topics by gathering multiple perspectives together and allowing people and organizations to discuss their opinions with detail. This allows for a nuanced conversation. It also means putting aside my own bias to explore these to the fullest. It means making all guests feel welcomed to share their opinions safely, without fear that the host will paint them into a corner, or make them sound incoherent. I want this place to be truly safe. I believe everyone, even those I disagree with, deserve to be treated with respect and to be on the Podcast to share their perspective. It also means having a concrete discussion on issues and determining the best way forward. You might be asking why. And the answer is simple: I believe conversations are how we can shape our future. As long as we restore thoughtful approaches to the biggest issues of our time our conversations will have deep, valuable meaning. And, we enrich our own opinion. In order to build our stance we must consider the best evidence against it. My name is Christopher Balkaran. I hope you enjoy this content.

This week we chat with Jakki about her years-long struggle with her health. The symptoms are weird as hell and they have piled on over quite a long time. We're talking about difficulty walking, swallowing, talking. Not to mention the hallucinations and other psychological symptoms. So what does she have? Hard to say, really. Some docs told her she has cat scratch fever. Some have said it's Lyme disease. Some are completely stumped... What matters to Jakki is less about the label of what she has and more about finding her way onto the road of recovery. We talk about her struggle with her health, the conspiracy theories surrounding Chronic Lyme, her beliefs in what she may or may not have, and just trying to find peace in a life plagued with unanswered symptoms.

Antioxidants Post Workout - inhibit muscle growth? [16:29] Shannon says: Hi Guys! A little background... I'm a 56 yr old woman, super lean and fit, whole foods keto (or LCHF - not always full keto), and do bodybuilding type weight lifting 6x/wk. I'm focused on continuing to build more muscle (especially in the booty), and also wanting to be more strict Keto because I love the mental clarity and "go-getter" optimism I have when in ketosis. My schedule... - I normally start my fast around 7pm - Have my plant based pre-workout around 11am, which has 4 carbs (does this count as breaking my fast? I'm not thinking so) - Lift at 11 or 12 - Post workout shake around noon or 1 Anyway, here's my question... I LOVE my daily chocolate Superfood shake, and it's my main carb source other than veggies and my pre-workout, with 11 net carbs. For quite awhile, I've used it as my post-workout meal, figuring it's a good choice with a combo of 17 carbs (11 net carbs) and 17g whey protein, and I often add 1/2 scoop of another protein powder to bump the protein up a bit. But I've read a few times now that antioxidants are not good post workout because they can inhibit muscle growth. Is this true? And if so, do you know the threshold as to what is too much? Would you mind taking a look at this label (https://tinyurl.com/u8njhswa) and tell me if you think this would be good for a post workout shake or not due to the amount of antioxidants, vitamins, phytonutrients, and other good stuff? I do not want to inhibit any muscle gain. And if this is not good for post workout, do you think just whey protein is okay without added carbs for post lifting? I'm almost at my carb limit between these two supplements that I want to keep, and really do not want to stop either. Thank you so much! Shannon 2. Hyponatremia & Hypothyroidism [25:20] Michele says: Nicki & Robb, After listening to you talk last week about hyponatremia, I was curious if it is related to hypothyroidism and about how electrolytes might also come into play with hypothyroidism. What does it mean when you say we "shed potassium?" When I look at conventional and functional treatments for hypothyroid, they include things like (t4) Levothyroxine SODIUM and (t3) Liothyronine SODIUM or natural combinations of those. Are they related to electrolyte sodium? What went into figuring out the combination of the magnesium, potassium and sodium that's in LMNT? Is that too many questions? Maybe you can pick whatever moves you and answer the rest somewhere in the Rebellion. Speaking of which-- I recently joined the Healthy Rebellion and look forward to participating in the next carb test and rebel reset. I missed this last time it started. I encourage everyone who has been listening to your podcasts for awhile to join the Healthy Rebellion too. It is a gi-normous wealth of information and community to invest in and empower your Self about health. I was worried that it would feel like Facebag, which I have been off of since 2008, but I. love. it. The connectedness and support I've experienced has been warm, welcoming and kind. Michele 3. Terbinafine and Dysbiosis? [31:24] Jakki says: Hi Robb and Nikki, Been listening since there were only 5, glad we weren't wrong. I really enjoy THR format. Several shows ago Nicki mentioned she took Terbinafine to get rid of a pesky toe fungus so she could more confidently show off her tooties in bjj. Her success story inspired me to try it. I have had this nasty toe fungus since high school (swim team locker room, soccer cleats in rain etc.) and now I am 5 yrs in to training bjj, pretty much the entire time have dreaded ankle lock days when my feet are so exposed. I was rx'd terbinafine by my podiatrist in January. The first thing I noticed was that the painful, red, burning, "mask rash" (I am forced to wear one at work) that I had been suffering from around my nostrils for several months cleared up right away. Additionally, my digestion improved, I lost 5 lbs, and was sleeping great. Down side was, I was craving carbs and sugar like a lunatic. I literally felt like a powerless robot, controlled by some creature in my brain forcing me to walk to the kitchen and eat all the treats--I could not stop myself! All the while-losing weight and generally feeling great... Cut to, I finished the round of treatment a little over a week ago. I immediately gained back the 5lbs, my DOMS has been UNREAL (I am only able to lift 1-2x/wk because I am so sore), I look 6 mos pregnant from the bloat by evenings, and I could nap 3-3:30pm everyday. But- the sugar cravings are completely gone. Are these things related? Did this medication have an effect on my over all biome or cause a die off or something? When I am not on the medication, I am paleo plus dairy, rice and potatoes and one cup of coffee a day. I aim for 100g protein at least. Sweeteners like honey and at the most a little dark chocolate. (But while on this drug I was paleo + ALL the SAD treats that I felt like having.) I am 35 yo mom to a 4 yr old, 5'6", currently 139 lbs. Hike or run outside 2-3x/wk, bjj 3x/wk, ride the peloton 2x/wk, weight lift 1-2x/wk. I really appreciate the work you both do, and I AM HERE FOR THE SOCIOPOLITICAL COMMENTARY too, keep it up, we need your voice. You have even inspired me to call my congressmen and senators in the past, some have even responded. Viva THR! 4. Low-Carb Sleep Eating [39:18] Josh says: This is a follow question to Paul's question that was on a previous podcast, it's around sleep eating. I too suffer from this. What he is referring to is: when I am doing low carb, I have a desire/drive/ urge that wakes me up and I have to eat something. Ie..taking me out of a deep sleep.. 1-3 hours into the sleep. It is usually carbs and after I do that I can comfortably go back to sleep. I hate the insulin spike at night and it I know it's not helping my circadian rhythm. What do you think is causing this and what is a fix? Thanks Josh 5. Inflammatory Papillitis [44:37] Kelsey says: Hey Robb and Nicki, My situation is a little bit sticky, My husband is the rhymer, I figured I'd give it a go Hoping my question gets on your show... Last fall I had inflammatory papillitis in my right eye I'm asking for recommendations cuz western medicine ain't so fly. I'm a mama of one, to add to my story, our little girl is 14 months and takes all the glory. Finishing nursing, getting caught up on sleep, She rules the house, with more than a peep. We eat a paleo diet, but consider it a lifestyle, We might join you in Montana and live in exile. I'll wrap this up soon, my rhyming is sad What prevention or tips do you have, I'd be so glad. Referring to my optic nerve It took us on a mighty curve Shout out to LMNT, it's really rad Only problem is when it's gone I'm real sad. Renegade Thinkers Unite: #2 Podcast for CMOs & B2B Marketers
Right around mid-March 2020, every brand, B2B or B2C, had to take a cold hard look at their brand promise and consider its relevance. Was the brand promise that seemed so right in the go-go months before the pandemic suddenly tone deaf? For Jakki Geiger, CMO of Reltio, a Silicon Valley-based data management platform, the answer to that question was “yes.” Practically overnight, the idea of “winning” seemed out of step with their customers, many of whom were focused more on surviving and less on thriving. So, what’s a savvy marketer to do? In this remarkably frank episode, Geiger shares exactly how she and her colleagues shifted gears and found a new, more relevant message around “serving, protecting, and retaining.” It’s a story of agility, determination, customer-centricity, and fearless leadership that almost any marketer can learn from. Drew and Jakki cover a lot of ground including the role CMOs can play not just in driving leads (which she did) but also driving social change in areas like diversity.

This is a powerful meditation. After doing this meditation for just one week I doubled my energy and concentration levels. This is based on Sadghuru's Isha Kriya Meditation For 7-11 Minutes as you breathe in you think the thought "I am not my body", as you breath out you think the thought "I am not my mind" Once done you vibrate the mantra Ah 7 times. Then you roll your eyes upwards for 6 minutes. It is that simple, but I dare you to try this for 21 to 30 days. I am always experimenting with energy exercises and I have a detailed energy routine every morning. This meditation gives me more energy then all my energy routines. Myleene Klass meets the mothers of two teenage boys who sadly died in particularly traumatic circumstances. Jakki and Laura explain how they both dealt with having to say goodbye to their sons very differently, what others can say to help the grieving process, and why it's important not to feel guilty about finding small joys in life after a bereavement. Picking Up The Pieces is brought to you by London's Air Ambulance Charity. Although all the stories in this series begin with the advanced medical trauma team caring for people on the roadside, Picking Up The Pieces asks what happens when patients and their loved ones return home and have to adjust to lives that have changed beyond recognition. Mompreneur extraordinaire has made it through the ups and downs of starting and growing a successful business.
One of my favorite reality shows is Southern Charm, based in Charleston, South Carolina. One of the featured women, Cameran, is known for telling it like it is. During her first pregnancy, she made a hilarious post on Instagram, PSA-style, addressing her many followers who kept prodding her about her stance on breastfeeding. She started by saying it’s no one’s dang business whether she planned to breastfeed, and concluded with a little tongue-in-cheek statement that if none of the traditional methods worked, she’d happily feed the baby the fast food the little booger had been craving for nine months. Why is it women are often each other’s worst critics? Come on, ladies, don’t we have the patriarchy for that? The post Jakki Liberman: She’s a Mompreneur appeared first on On The Dot Woman.
Josh and I met on the same set as I met Jakki from the last episode but we didn't really become close until we bumped back into each other at TeaPop... yeah, I'm there a lot. Since then he's attended my comedy shows, invited me to script-readings, and introduced me to menagerie of memorable individuals. He's that guy who is always down to listen and is always surrounded by interesting individuals. In this conversation we talk about how I push people's buttons, my first bringer show, and where square pegs belong.
Jakki is one of my favorite people to talk to. Possibly the funniest girl I know if not a damn close second. Also because even though she's insanely good at making it about her: it's at least always entertainingly so. I met her on set of a short film that, like all Hollywood Shorts, is only a year into post-production and therefore has another five years before it starts making the festival circuit. We're not the closest of friends, in fact we bump into each other way more than we plan on seeing the one another and yet it works out perfectly. In this interview we talk about first impressions, my envious openness, and how miserable and tragic we both are.
Helped by my producer Jakkie Ibberson tonight co presenting to help me with other celebrations. Jakki chooses some "not so common" tunes from The Four Tops, Isly Brothers, and Temptations
BANG! @southernvagard #radio keeps the hammer down with our Blueprint #interview #session ! This 90+ minute interview with Columbus, Ohio’s finest is oa doozy! We talk about his latest release, KING NO CROWN, the relentless show grind with Count Bass D last year, how he & Illogic get their cinema on for videos and the upcoming tour with Supastition this Spring/Summer. As always, we get into the early days - coming up in Columbus, meeting the MhZ cats such as Copywrite, Jakki, RJD2 and Camu Tao as well as Spitballz (RIP PRZM), and how he and the Weightless crew made that underground connect to NY via the Atoms Family and Cannibal Ox. You know we dug into that Rhymesayers lineage - Blueprint and crew were in the trenches with Slug, Eyedea, Abilities, Mr. Dibbs and the rest of the family as they conquered the Midwest and eventually the nation in the late 90s and early 2000s, and also dug into the formation of Blueprint & RJD2’s group Soul Position. For you business minded folks out there, Printmatic talks navigating the music industry today and how he is coming off his most successful year ever as a musician. Real music, real life, real stories, ya’ll - nothing more, nothing less.
