Narada speaks with American singer, songwriter, record producer, and multi-instrumentalist who began his career with four siblings in the 1970s band the Five Stairsteps. Skilled as a guitarist and bassist, Burke continued to work for the Dark Horse label as a session musician, while burgeoning a solo career of his own. During this period he contributed instrumentation to songs by a diverse range of artists such as Sly & the Family Stone, Natalie Cole, Billy Preston, Terry Callier, Curtis Mayfield, Bill Withers, Dusty Springfield, Diana Ross, and Gladys Knight and more. In 1981, Burke released his self-produced follow-up solo album, You're the Best, but it was his third album, Changes, which appeared the following year, that made a more significant impact.[2] This album included the singles "Hang Tight" and his signature hit "Risin' to the Top," a big success in Chicago.[2] The latter song has become a popular sampling choice for hip hop artists, having been borrowed by artists such as Doug E Fresh ("Keep Risin to the Top"), Big Daddy Kane ("Smooth Operator"), LL Cool J ("Around the Way Girl"), Pete Rock & CL Smooth ("Take You There"), Mary J. Blige ("Love No Limit"), O.C. ("Born 2 Live"), and Sean Price ("Sabado Gigante"), "Rising to the Top" appeared in the soundtrack for the video game Grand Theft Auto: Vice City Stories, on fictional radio station Vice City for Lovers. Throughout the '80s and into the '90s, Burke continued his session and production work for artists such as Peabo Bryson, The O'Jays, The Jones Girls and Keith Sweat, and in 1998 released his last album to date Nothin' but Love, containing the hit "Indigenous Love", which was popular in the United Kingdom via the Expansion Records LabelVisit Narada at his website and socials and leave a comment, like and subscribe if you enjoyed the podcast!Website: https://www.naradamichaelwalden.com/allinpodcastInstagram: https://www.instagram.com/officialnaradaApple Music https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/all-in-with-narada-michael-walden/id1470173526

Don Francisco: For 53 years and 42 days my next guest entertained audiences everywhere, from Chile to the US, and all points in between, with his iconic show “Sabado Gigante '' and his TV personality Don Francisco. To be interviewed by him was a true sign that you had made it! And at the beginning of my radio career, I had the honor to be invited to his then “Tonight Show-like” show, Don Francisco Presenta to talk about my prank call to Fidel Castro. To sit across from him and be interviewed is like facing the Oracle of TV and life! But the man behind the “Don” and the Guinness Book World Record for the world's longest running TV variety show, and the only one hosted by the same person in the world, is more surprising and introspective than his outspoken and larger than life TV alter ego would suggest. When the lights and the cameras are off he is still engaged in learning, innovating, growing and contributing to improving people's lives. Mario really puts the human in humanitarian! His “Teletón” in Chile, which started 42 years ago, inspired by the Jerry Lewis Muscular Dystrophy Telethon in the US, aids children with developmental disabilities all over Latin America and has raised more than a billion dollars and built 14 rehabilitation centers throughout Chile. Each year, in fact, he has managed to raise more money than the population of his country, which makes him more influential than the country's president! He has also exported this yearly Telethon to Mexico, the US, and 16 other countries in central and South America, making it the most watched telethon in the world. Are you noticing a pattern? This icon is all about shattering world records and preconceived notions. Now, at 81 years of age, as he prepares for his 43rd telethon, we catch up with him in Chile, in between CNN en Español tapings of his latest show “ Don Francisco: Reflexiones 2021” and discover a more introspective man, more accepting of his age and embracing personal growth with the help of a therapist for the first time in his life! Cash releases two new tracks Ana Cristina Cash, who is of Cuban descent, was raised in Miami, Florida, and began her professional music career at age six. She quickly became an accomplished champion of the singing competitions on the variety show, Sabado Gigante. Her recordings showcase her broad vocal range, from a deep resonating contralto to an amazing soaring soprano, revealing what is known to some as a “whistle register.” She was only 15 when she released her self-titled debut album in Spanish via Sony Music's Latin division. In 2005, she became the first Hispanic-American to perform the “Star-Spangled Banner” for a presidential inauguration for President Bush. In 2016, she married music producer, John Carter Cash -- the only son of Johnny and June Carter Cash -- and has since been writing and recording the music she was born to sing. Cash's music perfectly blends her connection with rockabilly and gritty blues, adding in a flavor of country and soul to create her own distinctive sound. During the quarantine lockdown, Buddy Iahn and Matt Bailey spoke with Ana about her career, including her latest album Shine and her dream recording project. Unbeknownst to us, we are airing the interview as she releases two singles: a reissue of "Brand New Pair of Shoes" and the Christmas track "Mele Kalikimaka." The reissue of "Brand New Pair of Shoes" appears on the digital-only release Johnny Cash - Forever Words (Expanded Edition) that features words written by Johnny Cash with music created by modern artists. The song is a co-write between Ana and her father-in-law, Johnny Cash. Ana put music to lyrics written by Johnny Cash himself, to create a jazz-inspired tune. The song was first released on Ana's album, Shine, in April 2020. Produced by John Carter Cash and recorded at the historic Cash Cabin Studio in Hendersonville, TN, “Mele Kalikimaka” is a lively song with a dreamy, tropical melody and lyrical sentiments of trading in the stereotypical wintry Christmas for a sandy beachy one. Made famous by Bing Crosby and the Andrews Sisters in 1950, “Mele Kalikimaka” was written by R. Alex Anderson. The song takes its title from the Hawaiian phrase Mele Kalikimaka, meaning “Merry Christmas.” Check out our other Podcasts! Subscribe to us on Apple Podcasts, Spotify Podcasts, TuneIn and YouTube.

Have you ever wondered if being a pageant girl helps you develop a career? Pageantry CAN open many doors, and it certainly did for Iris Almario! She shares her journey to Los Angeles, and how she was able to carve out a career in Hollywood and how she continues to work, and evolve in the industry. Her story will give you a sense of passion to continue to be beautiful, regardless of your age. We also dish about the Oscars, and although we missed the mark on some of our favorites, we got some of the winners right!! About Iris:Originally from New York, this natural beauty of Colombian Puerto Rican descent, has proven as talented as she is diverse. Most recently, audiences caught Iris in a dramatic moment on the witness stand in the new CBS series, All Rise. And coming soon in 2020, she goes for big laughs guest starring alongside Will Forte on the new platform Quibi in the short-form comedy series, Flipped. With numerous television credits under her belt, Iris has showcased a wide range of characters. Fans best recognize her for portraying Soledad Goldberg, Rogelio’s (Jaime Camil) overzealous publicist, on the CW’s beloved comedy series, Jane the Virgin; and for her role as Hugh Davidson’s former flame, Lizzie Martinez, on the TV Land comedy series, Nobodies, from executive producer Melissa McCarthy. However, it was her role years earlier on HBO’s mega-hit, Sex in the City, that first caught the industry’s attention. Since then, she has been entertaining viewers with appearances on countless shows, including Bosch, Switched at Birth, Code Black, Crazy Ex-Girlfriend, NCIS, American Crime Story and the TV movie Murder in Mexico: The Bruce Beresford-Redman Story to name a few.Iris was first drawn to performing through the art of dance, earning a degree from The Dalton School and then a scholarship to Phil Black Studios. She emerged on Spanish television as a host and model on Univision NY, Telemundo NY and as a two-time winner of the model competition on Univision’s popular variety show, Sabado Gigante. Iris further caught the public’s eye when she was named Queen of The National Puerto Rican Day Parade in New York City and then went on to be crowned Miss Latina USA. During this time, she traveled to Guatemala, El Salvador and Peru, where she competed for the Miss America Latina title, while having the distinct honor to represent Latinos from the United States overseas. She entered the Latina Magazine/Wilhelmina Model Search and was selected from over 5000 entries for a modeling contract with the prestigious Wilhelmina Modeling Agency. This led her to move to Los Angeles to further pursue her acting and hosting career.Iris’ passionate nature extends well-beyond the performing arts arena as an active global animal advocate. Searching for balance in her life, she began volunteering locally at a shelter which eventually lead her to a rescue that works with dog meat trade survivors. Through this organization, she traveled to China and brought back 3 dogs from a slaughterhouse and rescued 1 stray that can't walk but won her heart to become her beloved dog, Koko. Iris believes that helping abused animals has enriched her life and shown her the importance of compassion towards both people and animals. Iris proudly co-founded the global foundation Women United for Animal Welfare (WUFAW.org), which focuses on improving animal welfare through direct action in the field.
