This week on the Science for Sport Podcast, host Richard Graves sits down with former Leeds Rhinos captain Stevie Ward, a man who went from teenage prodigy to Grand Final winner, only to have his career cut short by concussion at just 27. In this powerful and deeply human conversation, Stevie opens up about: - What it's really like debuting alongside your childhood heroes - The fear and thrill of running out at Wembley at 18 - The brutal highs and lows of elite performance, injury, and recovery - How fear, when embraced, can unlock peak performance - The emotional toll of early retirement and how he's rebuilding his identity beyond sport But this isn't just a story of sport. It's about leadership, mental health, emotional intelligence, and what it means to be truly vulnerable, in a dressing room, a boardroom, or everyday life. Whether you're an athlete, coach, sports scientist, manager or just someone navigating life's transitions, Stevie's story is packed with insight and inspiration and how to lead with authenticity. About Stevie Ward Stevie is a former professional rugby player and part of the golden generation at the Leeds Rhinos, one of the most successful teams in Super League history. Stevie became the youngest grand final winner ever, going on to win two more Grand Finals and 2 Challenge Cups, and was named captain at just 26. Amongst the highs, Stevie endured ten operations and several mental health struggles. This adversity inspired Stevie to launch Mantality in 2016 to promote mental health for men through counselling, life-coaching services, and a stigma-breaking podcast. It leads to squadered opportunities.   Public Service is about Leadeship.  Lily Wu is a Public Servant.   And leadership is a requirement of all capable people for a community to thrive.  Lets not confuse a loud voice with a willingness to solve a problem.  Problem solving takes work and communication.  Screaming about an issue to draw attention is what a toddler does after dropping their Binky.   Doing the work is "taking ownership of your neighborhood," Mayor Wu affirms, "I want to elevate that." Wichita is elevated with the Leadership of Mayor Wu.  She works for Wichitans through communication every day.  Face-to-face and event-to-event; Lily serves the people.   Solutions to problems take action.  Lliy Wu is taking action on Crime, public safety, Wichita streets and Economic Development. The United States rejected a fairly broad consensus in the Security Council on THURSDAY when it vetoed a draft resolution that would have recommended the State of Palestine's full membership to the United Nations. Twelve countries including Russia, France and China backed the measure which drew two abstentions from the United Kingdom and Switzerland. But it was left to Washington's veto to sink any hopes of sending the measure to the General Assembly for further action where the State of Palestine was likely to win the two-thirds majority that would have rubber stamped its accession as the 194th-member state of the global organisation. Sherwin Bryce Pease filed this report and Sebenzile Nkambule spoke to  Professor Chris Landsberg, Director of the Centre for African Diplomacy and Leadeship at the University of Johannesburg and Ricky Mukonza , Associate Professor of Public Affairs at Tshwane University of Technology

In this stimulating episode of the Connected Leadership Podcast, host Andy Lopata welcomes Molly Harvey, a leading authority in the world of leadership development as well as the founder of OWL (Outstanding Women Leaders). Molly Harvey is an author, facilitator, and speaker who has more than 30 years of experience that includes involvement with the United Nations. Focusing on the development of future leaders, a topic Molly is deeply passionate about, the conversation unravels captivating insights. Molly underlines the importance of self-aware leadership and emotional intelligence, explaining that leaders should be cognisant of their influence and should appreciate each team member's contribution to the group dynamics. She believes that the capacity to pose theme-specific questions is an essential skill for future leaders, leading to surprising insights and facilitating positive change. Explaining a term she encountered at the UN, "Social artists of tomorrow", Molly describes these future leaders as adept networkers who build learning communities, comprehend intricate group dynamics, discern trends amidst chaos, and strategically capitalise on opportunities. Moving from the traditional fast-track of leadership that is based largely on an individual's academic accomplishments, Molly argues against the outdated concept of un-strategic hard work equating to success. She highlights the need for leaders to work not harder but smarter. She explains how implementing disciplines like allocated thinking time can lead to more efficient and effective leadership. This progressive approach, albeit demanding a high level of discipline, shapes leaders who are well-equipped to handle the complexities of a volatile business landscape. Andy and Molly also discuss developing leadership from the "inside out" through authenticity and maintaining presence. This includes acknowledging strengths and limitations as well as leveraging team members' abilities for collective success. She emphasises the significance of aspiring leaders finding and drawing inspiration from revered leaders within their organisation. She endorses starting the day mindfully, proposing that dedicating time for reflection at the start of the day can yield considerable advantages. The conversation takes a turn to address the critical issue of gender equity in the professional realm. Andy expressed concern about the perceived regression in gender balance during the COVID-19 pandemic and the introduction of hybrid working. Molly acknowledges that while there is increased representation of women at the boardroom level, many women report feeling overworked and question the pursuit of top leadership positions. She highlights the necessity of designing more inclusive and family-friendly policies that accommodate the unique challenges faced by women in the workforce. Enriched by Molly Harvey's astute perspectives, this episode provides a novel outlook on the attributes that future leaders will embody and the role incumbent leaders play in fostering these traits within their teams.  Connect With Andy Lopata Website Connect With Molly Harvey Websites

Ieskaties un izlasi!!How to lead in a crisis?

Come cambiare?

In a marketplace suffering from what I call in my presentations The Collective DeProfessionalization of Business and in a society struggling with The Mass Mediocritization of Humanity, we absolutely must behold the fiery passion Steve Jobs has for perfection. One former teammate said that part of his genius was his ability to spot defects instantly. I recently heard that he told his design team everything they produced needed to be “Museum of Modern Art-level quality”. His consumer goods needed to have a legendary UX. All devices needed to function excellently. And everything they touched had to be nothing less than gasp-worthy.Above all else, I believe, Steve Jobs was a hippie at heart. A man who wanted to release amazing things into the world. A maker who dreamed as few have and relentlessly stayed true to his ideals. Sure he was broken [aren’t we all?]. Yet, at his core, he was a human being who wanted to build a better world.

Re-establishing the footing and framework of the prophetic Spirit Post-Covid19 We expect our participants to begin to see the reality of their true, undiluted, spiritual identity and capacity, which should then enhance their ability in the expression of their redemptive, creative-leadership capabilities; for this is the heart of the prophetic spirit. Since the prophetic is a spirit that operates within the framework of the seven-fold Spirits of God, we, therefore, believe that such impartation of knowledge and grace would precisely build a well-seated spiritual philosophy within the hearts of our students, in a manner that allows the Holy Spirit in them to function effectively without confusion, distraction, or even misrepresentation. This is a recap of some of the sessions we have done in the past regarding this teaching. We must move further by next month but let these few sessions be a refresher to some key points that are needed in building and developing the right spiritual framework. We need more than ever before the Spirit of the prophetic to effectively discover and carry out the will and purpose of the Father. REVELATION 19:10 10 So I fell at his feet to worship him. But he told me, “Do not do that! I am a fellow servant with you and your brothers who rely on the testimony of Jesus. Worship God! For the testimony of Jesus is the spirit of prophecy.”

Mark Horstman is an incredibly accomplished business leader and personality.  He graduated from West Point, served in the military for many years, had a successful business career, and now has two popular business and career podcasts (Manager Tools and Career Tools). He runs a successful consultancy firm, Manager Tools, and has written two books (The Effective Manager and the Effective Hiring Manager).  And on top of all of that, he’s a father of 7! He’s accomplished a lot throughout his life, and shared his wisdom and life experiences with us.  We tap into many topics throughout this discussion, from how Mark grew up, to what he taught his kids about money, his favorite books, and his views on productivity and retirement.  Mark shares his views on “lean living,” which is a term he coined that was inspired by lean manufacturing and lean supply chains. Mark also shares some of the things he’s been doing to save money lately.  Mark talks about the concept of “race don’t chase,” which he has multiple podcast episodes on.  The race don’t chase concept is from the business world, but heavily applicable to personal finance.  Race don’t chase is the concept that when the market turns and things start going down, what you’re supposed to do is cut your expenses faster than your revenue drops.  You race your revenues to the bottom of the market, so you can be profitable even when your revenues are going down.  Mark leaves us with some final wisdom and life advice to 1) tell the truth, 2) be kind, 3) save and do not fall into the trap that the things you have will bring your joy, and 4) give back. Mark has been podcasting for 15 years and also shared some great advice with us on podcasting.  Please listen to enjoy all that Mark has to share!Show ReferencesManager Tools WebsiteThe Effective Manager by Mark HorstmanThe Effective Hiring Manager by Mark HorstmanManager Tools Book Reviews---Follow friends on FIRETwitterInstagramFacebookLinkedInLeave us a voicemail or text us: 404-981-3370eMail us at:  friendsonfiremm@gmail.comVisit our website: www.friendsonfire.org---Other LinksMaggie’s Blog: Mostly Minimal LifeMike’s Book:  Your New Relationship with Money
