Pop culture meets hilarious chaos as Natalie and Angela throw Hollywood's biggest names onto a fictional Survivor island—and the results are anything but predictable.     This week on Put Your Books Down, Natalie Sanderson Jones and Angela Bingham kick things off by swapping favorite book recommendations before diving headfirst into a wildly entertaining game of Celebrity Survivor. From Pamela Anderson and Walton Goggins to Jason Bateman, Will Arnett, Martin Short, Stanley Tucci, and Colman Domingo, every celebrity must be voted off, saved, or chosen as the ultimate island companion.     As the game escalates, nothing is off limits. Kid actors, infamous criminals, horror villains, and iconic movie bad guys all make unexpected appearances, leading to ridiculous debates, questionable survival strategies, and nonstop laughs. It's the perfect blend of humorous commentary, pop culture references, and shared personal stories that makes every episode feel like hanging out with your funniest friends.     If you love celebrity debates, ridiculous hypotheticals, and laughing at completely unnecessary arguments, this episode is for you.

Not a Bomb

Welcome back to Not A Bomb, the podcast where we resurrect cinema's most infamous box office disasters and ask the burning question: is it a bomb? This week, Troy and Brad shrink down, suit up, and dive headfirst into the wild, high‑concept sci‑fi comedy Innerspace from 1987. It's one of those movies that sounds absolutely unhinged when you describe it out loud, yet somehow becomes charming, energetic, and weirdly heartfelt once you hit play. That's the Joe Dante magic. In the hands of a less capable director, Innerspace could've been a complete mess. The premise alone, a hotshot pilot miniaturized and accidentally injected into a hypochondriac grocery store clerk, is the kind of thing that could collapse under its own absurdity. But Dante threads the needle, blending cartoon logic, sci‑fi spectacle, slapstick comedy, and genuine sweetness into a film that shouldn't work but absolutely does. It's insane in the best way, and charming in a way only Dante seems able to pull off.Troy and Brad dig into the film's chaotic energy, its inventive effects, and the pitch‑perfect performances from Dennis Quaid and Martin Short, who somehow make the whole thing feel grounded even as it spirals into sci‑fi lunacy. And of course, they take a moment to appreciate Meg Ryan, because 1987 Meg Ryan was peak Meg Ryan. She lights up every scene she's in, adding warmth and charisma that elevate the movie even further. The guys also explore how Innerspace has evolved from a modest box office performer into a beloved cult favorite, why its blend of genres feels so unique today, and how Dante's playful filmmaking style keeps the movie from ever tipping into chaos.Grab your lab coat, avoid the rogue scientists, and prepare to get very, very small.Want to help support the show? AI Music, Nintendo Nostalgia & The Great Hot Dog Debate

The Rizzuto Show

Play Episode Listen Later Aug 12, 2026 35:32

Welcome to another funny podcast episode of The Rizzuto Show, where technology is terrifying, nostalgia is apparently worth millions, and the financial advice remains extremely simple: go back to 1988 and tell your parents to buy two copies of everything. We kick things off with Spotify's new push to identify AI-generated music and AI personas, which immediately creates a problem nobody on the show particularly enjoys: some of this fake music is annoyingly good. The crew gets into AI covers, suspiciously talented digital musicians, the increasingly exhausting game of asking “is this real?” every time something shows up online, and why artificial intelligence apparently figured out how to make a blues record before most of us figured out what we're doing with our lives. Then it's time for some serious Nintendo nostalgia. A stash of 100 unopened Super Mario Bros./Duck Hunt cartridges has surfaced, with experts suggesting the collection could potentially bring enormous money at auction. That sends everybody spiraling back to childhood: Nintendo, Atari, Sega Genesis, Game Gear, coordinating Christmas presents with friends, blowing into cartridges like tiny electronics technicians, and the devastating realization that every toy we destroyed was apparently supposed to be our retirement portfolio.Naturally, nobody told us.From there, Crap on Celebrities brings another avalanche of entertainment gossip and pop culture commentary. 311 is headed back to St. Louis, Morrissey is canceling shows again, and Travis Barker has some very specific advice for son Landon Barker about appearing on The Voice. That turns into a perfectly reasonable discussion about artistic credibility, reality television, nepotism, and whether marrying into the Kardashian universe technically makes everybody a contestant.Eddie Vedder reveals the Martin Short joke that helped him quit smoking, Death Cab for Cutie hits Tiny Desk, and Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson is exploring even more music because apparently movies, wrestling, tequila, skincare and being one of the most recognizable humans alive were not enough extracurricular activities.Celebrity news keeps rolling with Taylor Swift's Nashville Songwriters Hall of Fame honor, pet drama, horror-movie controversy, Jenna Ortega discussion, and one of Hollywood's greatest alternate-universe casting decisions: Kevin Costner passing on The Shawshank Redemption to make Waterworld. Somewhere, a fish-man with gills just whispered, “worth it.”The crew debates whether Tom Hanks or Tom Cruise could have worked as Andy Dufresne, revisits Waterworld, celebrates some birthdays, and eventually arrives at the important local journalism this community deserves: Steve Ewing's birthday means a special deal at Steve's Hot Dogs for people named Steve, Stephen or Stephanie. Stefans, apparently, can kick rocks. Then Rafe unveils the Riz Quiz: rapid-fire questions, 45 seconds on the clock, one wrong answer and you're done. Nothing exposes the human brain quite like asking it to recall basic information while everybody on a morning radio show waits for it to fail. It's AI anxiety, retro gaming, celebrity fails, St. Louis nonsense, music news, movie arguments and hot-dog-based discrimination packed into one funny podcast. Basically, another completely normal morning with Rizz and the gang.Listen to the full funny podcast episode and find out why the future may belong to artificial intelligence, but the real winners are apparently the people who refused to open their Nintendo games.Follow The Rizzuto Show → linktr.ee/rizzshow for more from your favorite daily comedy show.Connect with The Rizzuto Show Comedy Podcast online → 1057thepoint.com/RizzShow.Hear The Rizz Show daily on the radio at 105.7 The Point | Hubbard Radio in St. Louis, MO.See Privacy Policy at https://art19.com/privacy and California Privacy Notice at https://art19.com/privacy#do-not-sell-my-info.

A Martin Short documentary introduced me to a new word — tummler — and I haven't stopped thinking about it since. It's a Yiddish word commonly used during the Catskills-era for the person whose actual job was turning a hotel of strangers into a temporary community. Not the performer on stage. The one actually out working the room — at breakfast, the pool, the lobby — making sure nobody's left standing alone. This week I'm making the case that a huge number of the women in our lives are doing this work constantly, for free, and calling it “being nice” instead of what it is: a real, underrated skill. We get into what it looks like, whether it's dying out or just migrating into group chats, and why you should text the tummler in your life and tell her you appreciate her. Also this week: a quick check-in on my July whimsy movie project. Darby O'Gill and the Little People is a glorious practical-effects mess (Sean Connery's Irish accent, less glorious). And A Fish Called Wanda — my first time watching, four decades late — reminded me that Jamie Lee Curtis is stunning, and her wardrobe, whew, I'm still envious of those dresses today. Well, maybe not the bright florals. This is a public episode. If you would like to discuss this with other subscribers or get access to bonus episodes, visit www.radiantbadass.com

The Tim Conway Jr Show Hour with Mark Thompson Hour 1 (7.27) Mark Thompson is in the chair tonight filling in for Tim Conway Jr., who’s off on his Alaska cruise. Mark just touched down hours ago with his soon-to-be wife Courtney from their European vacation to her ancestral homeland of Croatia. They kicked things off in London during a stifling heatwave and even had a theater run-in with the sexy new couple Meryl Streep and Martin Short. Mark only spotted two homeless people the whole time he was in London — so why can’t LA and its homeless industrial complex do better? Has anyone seen “The Odyssey”? The big-screen remake of the classic tale is crushing it at the box office and helping rescue Hollywood. Was it really written by the blind poet Homer? Turns out the story kept changing every time it was told over the centuries. One classics professor who translated the original text that inspired Christopher Nolan’s film just ripped the movie to shreds, calling it an absolute stinker. Meanwhile, big cities are losing kids as families pack up and move to smaller towns — the number of children under 18 in major urban areas has dropped 10% in the past decade, while fertility rates keep falling across the country. Fans of Annette O'Toole will enjoy hearing behind-the-scenes stories from some of her most memorable projects, including Smallville, Rose Kennedy, The Kennedys of Massachusetts, Cross My Heart with Martin Short, Copacabana, Vanities, and her acclaimed collaborations with filmmaker Christopher Guest. She also explains why she chose to leave Smallville after six seasons despite the show's success, sharing how family priorities, long commutes between Vancouver and Los Angeles, and a desire to return to theater shaped that decision. Annette also opens up about her enduring marriage to Emmy-winning actor, writer, and musician Michael McKean. She shares the touching story of how their friendship became a lifelong love story, how they co-wrote the Oscar-nominated song "A Kiss at the End of the Rainbow" for Christopher Guest's A Mighty Wind, and why their shared love of acting, music, books, and creativity continues to strengthen their relationship. She also reflects on McKean's memorable Celebrity Jeopardy! championship and why spending time together has become even more meaningful as they've grown older. The episode explores the realities of a long career in Hollywood, including the iconic roles Annette narrowly missed in Body Heat and Terms of Endearment. Rather than dwelling on disappointment, she explains how every missed opportunity ultimately led to another meaningful role, reinforcing her belief that resilience, gratitude, and adaptability are the keys to career longevity. One of the most inspiring parts of this interview focuses on healthy aging, women aging in Hollywood, and embracing authenticity. Annette speaks candidly about rejecting Hollywood's pressure to stay forever young, embracing her gray hair, choosing not to pursue cosmetic surgery, and discovering the confidence to speak her mind after years of trying to please others. She also shares how daily walking, nutrition, and exercise have helped her naturally manage osteoporosis while feeling healthier, stronger, and more energized than ever in her 70s. Today we meet one of the sharpest satirists of the last 40 years, Harry Shearer. We could also say Mr. Burns or Kent Brockman -- two of the Simpsons characters he voices. Or we could say the the long term host of a weekly comedy and music program called Le Show, as well as the creator of great comedy albums with The Credibility Gap as well as solo. And oh yeah, Harry was part of the crew that came in to rescue SNL as it floundered after the original cast departed. Or, perhaps he is Derek Smalls, bassist for the mockumentary rock kings Spinal Tap. Check it out to find out more -- as always there are extra clips below and thanks for sharing our shows! Want more Harry Shearer? Harry provides so many great voices for the Simpsons it's hard to keep track, but here is a fun sampling. https://youtu.be/3X2JLl9U4Rw?si=eEDJiukahjM56VEw Harry has two short runs on SNL in the 1980s and while he didn't stay long his bits remains classic. This one features Harry and Martin Short as the world's first male synchronized swimming team. https://www.reddit.com/r/LiveFromNewYork/s/eTMzv1qmyw The Credibility Gap isn't as well known as the Firesign Theater, but they should be. We also talk about Steve finding his voice as a comedy writer, the workload and stress of nightly comedy writing, Dave's Record Collection, the stigma to being an industrial musical performer, how so many people from the punk rock world including Don Bolles & Jello Biafra were also collecting these incredible records, Martin Short's time in industrial musicals, composer Hank Beebe, how Steve felt about being the subject of a doc, how industrial musicals are still being made today, why The Bathrooms Are Coming is perfection on vinyl, the journey of Steve befriending and forming deep friendships with the composers, performers and artists involved in these incredible shows, and more.So...shh...reduce the din....your Revolutions Per Movie's sales meeting...is about to begin!STEVE YOUNG:https://www.steveyoungworld.com/REVOLUTIONS PER MOVIE:Host Chris Slusarenko (Eyelids, Guided By Voices, owner of Clinton Street Video rental store) is joined by actors, musicians, comedians, writers & directors who each week pick out their favorite music documentary, musical, music-themed fiction film, or music videos to discuss. In this episode of the show we are closing both our June with John Landis comedies and the entire Spring of Comedy as well with an absurdist gem from the middle of the decade, Three Amigos. Over the course of our conversation you will hear us talk about how it was demonstrably new for Chevy Chase to appear as a part of an ensemble, how Steve Martin smuggled a lot of Monty Python-esque absurd comedy into the movie and how the movie was both ahead of its time and just outside of the brief window when comedies that were deliberately weird were in vogue. We also talk about paying homage to silent movie stars, Martin Short crushing it in his debut, phantom sewing and the many influences taken from spaghetti western to spice up this movie. What happens when a legendary New Jersey comedian sits down with two completely unfiltered gay hosts over Armenian coffee? Pure comedy chaos. This week we welcomed comedian Mike Marino to Undressed with Pol' and Patrik while we were in New York City, and from the second he walked in, we couldn't stop laughing. Between Mike's quick wit, our nonstop banter, and SnowWhite90210 stealing the spotlight as always, this episode felt like old friends sitting around the kitchen table. We talked about Mike's incredible 35-year career, spending a decade performing sketch comedy on The Tonight Show with Jay Leno, touring the world, opening for legendary performers, and why comedians don't make their money from television specials—they make it on the road. Mike also gave us a behind-the-scenes look at his brand-new Amazon Prime comedy special, Back to School with Mike Marino, filmed inside the very high school where his stand-up journey began at just sixteen years old. We loved hearing how the local drama students helped build the set and how every ticket sold benefited the school's drama department. Of course, we couldn't resist talking Hollywood. We swapped stories about Jay Leno, Jon Voight, Jamie Kennedy, Tom Arnold, Frank Stallone, Robert Davi, Dino Martin, Martin Short, Comics Unleashed, the Beverly Hills Film Festival, and even our unforgettable evening sitting next to Jon Voight, Dyan Cannon, and Fran Drescher. Mike also shared hilarious stories about being the "plant" in Jay Leno's audience and how sometimes Jay depended on Mike to rescue jokes live on television. The conversation quickly turned into a comedy masterclass as Mike explained that the funniest material always comes from real life. Family, relationships, getting older, and everyday experiences connect with audiences far more than memorized punchlines. His advice to us? Our timing, chemistry and playful banter could easily become a comedy act of its own! Then it was time for Pol's famous Armenian Coffee Reading. The coffee revealed a beautiful new chapter ahead for Mike. Pol saw a man entering the most authentic and rewarding period of his career, predicting that success would come from embracing who he is today instead of the "New Jersey Bad Boy" persona that first made him famous. The reading also highlighted the deep peace Mike has finally found with his fiancée Heather, along with an unexpected future opportunity that's even bigger than anything he's already accomplished. Naturally, things went completely off the rails as we volunteered to become Mike's "gaybers," debated building an ADU in his backyard, joked about Only Thumbs, and nearly moved ourselves into the house next door in New Jersey. It was heartfelt, hilarious, inspiring and exactly the kind of unfiltered conversation we love sharing with all of you. BEST QUOTE: "I used to be the New Jersey Bad Boy. Now I'm just happy." In this episode of JJ Meets World, JJ and Tucker dive into underrated movies, cult classics, video store nostalgia, Fargo pop culture, local mascots, and the strange ways entertainment has changed in the streaming era. JJ kicks things off with a passionate defense of Clifford, the 1994 Martin Short and Charles Grodin comedy that deserves far more love than it gets. From there, the conversation turns into a celebration of underappreciated movies, including The Hand That Rocks the Cradle with Rebecca De Mornay and Ernie Hudson, and Mouse Hunt, the Nathan Lane and Lee Evans comedy directed by Gore Verbinski. The conversation also explores why old video rental stores made it easier to discover strange, wonderful movies, how streaming algorithms shape what people watch now, and why DVD collections, Blu-ray releases, and physical media still matter. JJ shares memories of Stephen Tobolowsky, signed memorabilia, celebrity photos, and the documentary Stephen Tobolowsky's Birthday Party. Later, JJ and Tucker talk about Fargo nostalgia and local change, including the bankruptcy of Jade Presents, memories of Steve Hanson, the demolition of familiar places, downtown Fargo's raccoon mascot, and Country Hearth's bread mascot Loafy. The episode wraps with video rental store simulator games, job-based cozy games, Valheim, a one-to-one Titanic build, and Tucker's imaginary documentary about JJ chopping down a tree. Sometimes a show starts with a plan. Other times it turns into 30 minutes of Alice Cooper golf stories, celebrity colonoscopy competitions, and an unexpected debate about Grateful Dead clothing. Guess which one happened today. On this episode of The Rizzuto Show, the crew dives headfirst into another beautifully unhinged morning of entertainment news, questionable life choices, and the kind of conversations that probably shouldn't happen before breakfast.First up, Blink-182 fans are losing their minds after hints of a major anniversary celebration for Take Off Your Pants and Jacket. Is a tour coming? New music? A giant reunion of people who still know every word to "The Rock Show"? The crew investigates. Then we learn that Alice Cooper accidentally left his credit card at a gas station during a golf trip in Arizona. Luckily, it was found by a fan who returned it instead of funding the world's weirdest shopping spree. The gang discusses Alice's legendary golf obsession, his friendship with Groucho Marx, and how the guy somehow still looks cooler than all of us combined.Things get even stranger when Tom Hanks reveals that he, Steve Martin, and Martin Short host actual colonoscopy parties. Not metaphorical parties. Real parties. Complete with competition, suffering, and discussions nobody asked for but everyone immediately became fascinated by. Naturally, the crew spends way too much time debating which show member they'd be most comfortable pooping in front of. Science demands answers.Elsewhere, Moon admits he's becoming dangerously attracted to Grateful Dead merchandise despite knowing almost nothing about the band. Is this maturity? A midlife crisis? A cry for help? The jury remains out.The celebrity chaos keeps rolling as Taylor Swift wedding rumors heat up, Jack White quietly drops news about a new album, Alanis Morissette launches a theatrical stage production, and Hugh Laurie apologizes after accidentally unleashing the internet on a TV critic. Because apparently getting drunk and tweeting remains undefeated. And then things really go off the rails when the crew ranks the greatest country summer songs ever recorded. Kenny Chesney, Alan Jackson, Jimmy Buffett, Zac Brown Band, strawberry wine, cold beer, lake life, and approximately 47 references to boats somehow dominate the conversation. By the end, you'll either want to buy a pontoon boat or file a noise complaint against country radio. If you love weird celebrity stories, ridiculous debates, pop culture commentary, and a group of friends constantly distracting each other from the topic at hand, this episode delivers exactly what you'd expect from a daily comedy show. And if you're somehow listening while preparing for a colonoscopy, congratulations—you've found the perfect soundtrack. This daily comedy show proudly answers life's biggest questions:Should Grateful Dead merch require a knowledge test?Is a colonoscopy party friendship's highest form? Can Kenny Chesney survive without mentioning sand, boats, or cold beer? Why does Alice Cooper somehow have the coolest retirement plan ever?We don't solve them. Today on The Rizzuto Show, we discovered that technology has officially gone full circle. After decades of tech companies convincing us that one sleek device could handle everything, people are now voluntarily carrying multiple phones again. That's right — welcome back to the future, where your pockets are stuffed like it's 1998 and you're one Nextel chirp away from becoming a regional sales manager. The gang dives into the growing trend of people carrying separate work and personal phones in the name of mental health. Is it a brilliant life hack or just another thing to forget to charge? Lern almost had dreams of becoming a two-phone legend herself with plans for a "Learner Phone" burner setup before the deal disappeared faster than our motivation after lunch. Then it's time for Crap On Celebrities, where music news gets weird in all the right ways. Greta Van Fleet is back with new music, Peter Gabriel dusts off a song that apparently spent four decades sitting in a vault, and Disturbed is preparing new music while earning perhaps the most accurate parody album commercial we've ever produced. If you've ever wondered what a greatest hits collection consisting entirely of "AH-WAH-AH-AH-AH" sounds like, congratulations, your dream has arrived. We also discuss Rod Stewart's health issues, Frankie Valli finally canceling tour dates at age 92, and whether somebody should gently escort certain performers toward a comfortable pool chair and a nice afternoon nap.Movie fans get fed too. The crew talks about horror hit Backrooms, Toy Story 5 rumors involving Taylor Swift, the emotional Martin Short documentary, and some of the greatest movie ad-libs ever recorded. From "Here's Johnny!" to "You talking to me?" to "I'm the king of the world!" we revisit the moments actors accidentally turned into cinema history.Plus:Two-phone lifestyle debatesNextel nostalgiaMonica Valley's crowd-surfing weddingCelebrity cancellationsSwiftie conspiracy theoriesMartin Short appreciation hourClassic movie triviaBirthday celebrationsAnd one legendary porno birthday that somehow made it through legal reviewIf you're looking for a daily comedy show packed with music news, celebrity gossip, movie trivia, ridiculous observations, and the kind of conversations that somehow begin with smartphones and end with Pat Boone's metal album, you've found your people. The Rizzuto Show remains the daily comedy show where absolutely nothing stays on topic for long, and honestly, that's probably for the best. Thanks for making us part of your daily comedy show routine.Follow The Rizzuto Show → https://linktr.ee/rizzshow for more from your favorite daily comedy show.Connect with The Rizzuto Show Comedy Podcast online → https://1057thepoint.com/RizzShowHear The Rizz Show daily on the radio at 105.7 The Point | Hubbard Radio in St. Louis, MO.See Privacy Policy at https://art19.com/privacy and California Privacy Notice at https://art19.com/privacy#do-not-sell-my-info.

Sarah met a newborn baby, and she is still riding the high. We find out what it costs to get bodycam footage and why the government is so behind the times. Susie wants to know why no one is doing gender reveal parties anymore (not that we're complaining!). We discuss the Martin Short documentary, and think about why he is so positive and stable and how he is a comedic genius without the tortured soul. We hear about The Crash documentary on Netflix, and the story of Mackenzie Shirilla who drove her car into a building, killing her boyfriend and another friend, and whether we think the crash was an accident or intentional. We learn about the "Accutane nosejob" that happens to many people when they take the acne medication, and why Susie is convinced it happened to her.00:00 - Sarah's Joyful Encounter with a Five-Day-Old Baby6:02 - The Shocking Cost of Bodycam Footage and Government Inefficiency12:40 - Finding Support and Healing Through BetterHelp Therapy15:34 - Why Gender Reveal Parties Are Fading Away22:29 - Martin Short's Joyful Approach to Life and Loss33:04 - Analyzing The Crash Documentary: Accident or Intentional Act?47:03 - The Accutane Nose Job Theory and Podcast Wrap-upBrain Candy Podcast Website - https://thebraincandypodcast.com/Brain Candy Podcast Book Recommendations - https://thebraincandypodcast.com/books/Brain Candy Podcast Merchandise - https://thebraincandypodcast.com/candy-store/Brain Candy Podcast Candy Club - https://thebraincandypodcast.com/product/candy-club/Brain Candy Podcast Sponsor Codes - https://thebraincandypodcast.com/support-us/Brain Candy Podcast Social Media & Platforms:Brain Candy Podcast LIVE Interactive Trivia Nights - https://www.youtube.com/@BrainCandyPodcast/streamsBrain Candy Podcast Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/braincandypodcastHost Susie Meister Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/susiemeisterHost Sarah Rice Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/imsarahriceBrain Candy Podcast on X: https://www.x.com/braincandypodBrain Candy Podcast Patreon: https://www.patreon.com/braincandy (JOIN FREE - TONS OF REALITY TV CONTENT)Brain Candy Podcast Sponsors, partnerships, & Products that we love:This episode is sponsored by BetterHelp. Joe Rogan concerned about “crazy” Theo Von, The Crash on Netflix, Stephen Colbert's lame farewell week, Chelsea Handler angry over the Roast of Kevin Hart, Jordan Hudson v. Dianna Russini, Ronda Rousey v. Gina Carano, and Mojo forced to apology. Eli Zaret has been moved to tomorrow's show due to the Detroit Pistons/Cleveland Cavaliers Game 7. There is a great Martin Short documentary on Netflix: Marty, Life Is Short. The Crash on Netflix covers the wild story of Mackenzie Shirilla. Wade Wilson, the Deadpool Killer, pulls all kinds of chicks (and dudes). Will Donald Trump endorse Spencer Pratt for LA Mayor? The 2 Angry Men Podcast comments on the campaign. Spencer is cranking out new ads. The View hates Spencer Pratt. Michael is still killing it in theaters. Geoffrey Mark claims Michael Jackson was just entertaining children. Jermaine Jackson is a rapist too. Sounds like Tom Cruise is getting balls deep in Pamela Anderson. Dak Prescott is banging a member of his ex's bridal party. Britney Spears is back to posting on social media after her crazy dinner last week. Stephen Colbert is taking forever to go away. The Kevin Hart Roast is still in the news due to a really mean George Floyd joke. Chelsea Handler went on with Don Lemon to talk bad about the event she participated in. Shane Gillis explains some jokes from the roast. Mojo from Mojo in the Morning made a stupid joke about dogfighting and has now CAVED to the mob. JLo is caught being a complete diva on the streets of New York. Caitlyn Clark's coach won't give her her due. Jordon Hudson is angry that the media doesn't want to cover the Mike Vrabel and Dianna Russini story. Lena Dunham rips Adam Driver in her book and he's taking the high road… for now. Taylor Swift is a bridezilla. Joe Rogan is really concerned about Theo Von. Theo is a bit defensive. Dane Cook looks weird. Old bag Ronda Rousey beats old bag Gina Carano in boring 17 second fight. Easy money. Merch is for sale! Buy it. Or don't. But do. Episode 744 kicks off with new merch in the wild and the ongoing expansion of the “protect the children from the internet” playbook. Manitoba is floating a ban on social media and AI chatbots for kids with details still TBD, while the U.S. Senate Judiciary Committee somehow managed unanimous approval on chatbot age-verification legislation. Utah, not to be outdone, passed SB 73 — a law that tries to pin age verification on VPN users and even bans sites from explaining what a VPN is, a move that will mostly degrade the internet without solving the problem it claims to address. Meanwhile, John Oliver finally unloaded on the AI industry, echoing long-standing criticisms: rushed products, acknowledged risks, and outsourced consequences. In the news, a U.S. Army Special Forces master sergeant was arrested for allegedly turning classified intel about the Maduro capture into a $400K Polymarket win, then attempting to cover it up in ways that suggest poor operational planning. Meta cut more than 1,100 Kenyan content moderators after reports surfaced that they were exposed to explicit footage from smart glasses users, raising serious questions about labor practices in AI pipelines. Google signed a Pentagon AI deal despite internal backlash while posting massive revenue gains, underscoring where incentives actually land. OpenAI, meanwhile, is juggling missed targets, a shift away from Microsoft exclusivity, and continued reputational hits around Sam Altman — including a widely criticized apology tied to a mass shooting and a fabricated Bruno Mars tie-in for his World project. Add in a failed retrial bid from Sam Bankman-Fried, rising volumes of AI-generated web content, and political interference with the National Science Board, and the signal is clear: incentives are misaligned across the board. On the lighter side, Star Trek: Strange New Worlds returns July 23rd for its penultimate season, and Ted Lasso is back August 5th, for better or worse. Jack Dorsey beat the inevitable Elon attempt to reboot Vine with Divine, reviving six-second loops with a decentralized backbone and anti-AI safeguards. Apple continues its slow AI rollout with new photo editing tools, while Google pushes further into data aggregation with wardrobe-level photo analysis. Hardware check: Logitech's MX Keys S lands as a heavier, brighter $119 iteration. In books, Peter Clines delivers with God's Junk Drawer, while Martha Wells signals that the Murderbot series may be nearing its end. The Dark Side with Dave ties it together with gun storage PSAs, Disneyland lore, Galaxy's Edge playlists, and a conversational detour through Super Dave, Martin Short, and the ongoing quirks of instant replay in baseball.Show notes at https://gog.show/744Watch on YouTube at https://youtu.be/P3NOSXlCs9EFOLLOW UPNew Merch!Canadian premier wants to ban social media and AI chatbots for kids in ManitobaSenate Judiciary Committee unanimously approves AI chatbot age verificationUtah's New Law Targeting VPNs Goes Into Effect Next WeekJohn Oliver Just Took the AI Industry Behind a Shed and Beat It With a Pipe WrenchIN THE NEWSUS soldier arrested for allegedly making over $400,000 on Polymarket with classified Maduro informationMeta in row after workers who say they saw smart glasses users having sex lose jobsGoogle employees ask Sundar Pichai to say no to classified military AI useGoogle Signs Pentagon AI Deal Despite Employee BacklashGoogle Gives OpenAI 20 Billion Reasons To WorryOpenAI's Sam Altman apologizes for not reporting ChatGPT account of Tumbler Ridge suspect to policeSam Altman Caught in What May Be His Most Spectacular Lie YetOpenAI ends its exclusive partnership with Microsoft‘Never Talk About Goblins': OpenAI's Instructions to Codex Have a Weirdly Emphatic No-Creatures PolicySam Bankman-Fried Seems to Annoy Judge and Lose Latest Motion for New TrialDead Internet Theory Is 17% of the Way to Becoming Reality, Study FindsMatt Mullenweg thinks WordPress is in decline.
