Check out Mark's website here https://markmorrissmusic.co.uk/ Mark Morriss is a singer songwriter who famously made his name fronting English indie outfit The Bluetones. Mark fronted the four piece over a successful and fruitful 15 year period, scoring 14 top ten singles and 3 top ten albums, whilst touring the UK, Europe and Japan, before temporarily disbanding in 2011. After releasing ‘Memory Muscle' in 2008, Mark banded together The Mummys and hit the road. He spent the best part of that year touring Memory Muscle while The Bluetones took a short sabbatical, often with his bandmates in tow, either sharing touring duties or joining him in the studio for the odd overdub. After returning to The Bluetones to record their ‘A New Athens' swan song, Mark re-focused his attention on his solo career. In 2013 he recorded ‘A Flash of Darkness', raising the recording funds via a successful Pledge Music campaign. The album was then given a general release by Acid Jazz Records the following year, whilst Mark continued to tour both as a solo acoustic artist and with an ever changing line up behind him. The various members of The Magical Sex Band. In the summer of 2015 Mark recorded and released ‘The Taste of Mark Morriss' for Acid Jazz. Intended as a companion to ‘A Flash of Darkness', the album comprised a collection of cover versions of songs that had informed the writing of its predecessor. At the same time as producing and touring his own solo material, Mark has produced Theme and Chapter music for the audio versions of David Walliams' successful series of children's books, from ‘The Boy in the Dress' right through to his latest, ‘The Midnight Gang', all released on Harper Collins.

After literally years of dealing with the Pledge Music situation where pledges were received on behalf of the Cowsills and then the whole Pledge Music group went bankrupt and disappeared with everyone's money we decided that we needed to resolve the situation once and for all so we discuss in this episode what actually happened with Pledge Music from the beginning through our attempt to right the situation, getting in over our head and learning the lesson that no matter how hard you try there are just some things you can't take on and try and fix no matter what your heart tells you
He's Bob Schneider, musician and songwriter extraordinaire. Learn how Bob writes songs, hones his craft and produces music of significance. He is an Austin, Texas–based musician and former lead singer of the rock band Ugly Americans. He has released around a dozen albums, mostly on his own Shockorama label. Lonelyland (2001) was licensed through Universal Records, while in 2005 distribution deal with Vanguard Records saw his albums made widely available. In 2009 he signed to Kirtland Records and put out Lovely Creatures, A Perfect Day, and Burden of Proof. His record The King Kong Suite was released on Shockorama Records in 2015.The son of an opera singer, he moved with his parents to Germany when he was two, while his father received instruction from noted vocal teachers. It led to a marginal existence as “my parents had this big plan, but my dad just didn't have the voice". He learned guitar and piano at an early age, and performed at his parents' parties. He studied art in college, while performing in his first band, a funk-rock outfit called Joe Rockhead. The band independently released three albums before disbanding. Schneider subsequently performed with Ugly Americans who were an opening act for the Dave Matthews Band and signed with the revived Capricorn Records.[8] In 1997, Schneider co-founded The Scabs, a funk ensemble that regularly played in around Austin and described as " inspired by The Rugburns (right down to the suits and ties) [with] bawdy show tunes and puerile blues in the beginning, but eventually the powerhouse funk took over when the Grooveline Horns were added".Career In 1999, Schneider formed a solo act, initially under the name Lonelyland, which became the title of his record released through Universal Records. His style has been described as "acoustic based songs with electronic beats and noises in the background and other types of cross genre music. His live shows are known for improvisation [and] audience involvement".[He went on to record the major-label solo albums Lonelyland (2001) and I'm Good Now (2004), which garnered him significantly more national attention and some critical acclaim. "Big Blue Sea" from the Lonelyland album received significant radio play, as did "Come With Me Tonight" from I'm Good Now. "Metal & Steel" from Lonelyland is, to date, Schneider's most played song. The contracts that he signed with Universal in 2001 and Vanguard in 2004 allowed him to release albums as "side projects" on his own Shockorama Records.Among the albums that have been self-released are Galaxy Kings and I've Seen The End of the World and It Looks Like This. All of these side projects were re-released by Vanguard in conjunction with the release of his 2006 album The Californian. Previously, these albums had limited availability as approximately 10,000 copies were produced. After releasing The Californian, Schneider also put out Greatest Hits Live, recorded in Austin on July 17, 2006, on Shockorama Records. He has a long-standing Monday night residency at the Saxon Pub and regularly plays at Antone's, both venues in Austin. His live-band includes Harmoni Kelley (bass), Jeff Plankenhorn (guitars), Conrad Choucroun (drums), Danny Levin (cello) and Oliver Steck (accordion) In 2009, Schneider signed with Kirtland Records and released Lovely Creatures in September 2009. It featured the single "40 Dogs (Like Romeo and Juliet)", which peaked at #14 on the AAA Radio Chart. The album also featured Patty Griffin on the track "Changing Your Mind".He released a second album on the label entitled "A Perfect Day" on April 19, 2011, featuring the single "Let The Light In." "Burden of Proof" was released on June 11, 2013.His next musical project, King Kong, was released in 2015 under the Shockorama label and was the result of a crowdsourcing campaign through PledgeMusic. King Kong saw its release over the course of 2015 in the form of three EPs (volumes collectively known as The King Kong Suite) as well as a full-length album made available to his online backers. In 2017, Schneider began making his massive backlog of recorded demos available to his fans through Patreon. His next album Blood and Bones was released on June 8, 2018.On an episode of The Lone Star Plate podcast, Schneider said he turned down a part in the 2020 Netflix hit The Lost Husband because he didn't want to become an on-screen celebrity.
Writer and cultural critic William Deresiewicz, author of The Death of the Artist, talks about: His motivations in writing the book, largely motivated by dispelling the myth that this (our current internet/social media era) was the greatest time ever to be an artist, as well as trying to understand how artists (not just visual, artists across all fields- writing, music, film & television) were adapting to making art and surviving in an this world; why he strongly believes that not everyone can be an artist; how and why the monopoly on taste has been broken through a more middle-brow level of connoisseurship; how we can't dispense with the gatekeeper, whether it's the curator of artists or our listening playlists; artists' relative comfort (or discomfort) with using social media, which isn't as tied to age as you would think; the wide variety of day jobs that artists do (including a list of 50 jobs/gigs that Deresiewicz compiled), and the degrees of poverty artists live with; the delicate and complex dynamic of artists walking away from being artists (which is of course very hard to document); the artist Paul Rucker (perhaps the only artist profiled in the book whom I should have heard of) who's had a wide-ranging and remarkable career; the challenge of finding and working with the ‘typical' working artist- artists whose careers were coming up but not yet well known; and what a solid work-lifestyle balance looks like for one of the artists in the book, as well as for Deresiewicz himself.

Check out this interview on Youtube: https://www.youtube.com/c/CowsillFan WE'RE BACK!!!! Hi everyone we are back with live broadcasts, audio AND video now, and spent this episode catching everyone up on everything. Well not quite everything. One thing we wanted to mention for the umpteenth time but seemingly never enough is that Pledge Music pledgers will eventually receive everything they've ordered. If you just ordered the signed CD then those should be going out sometime in October (we have to sign 550 of them!!!!). If you ordered the CD and Vinyl album then you will receive your order when the Vinyl comes out (on Record Store Day which will be either April 15th or 21st). Orders will only be sent when items are available to fill an order. We can't be sending someone 3 items separately. We're doing this out of our good graces but we're not going to be tripling and quadrupling post office fees. Okay everyone new guests and new weekly episodes are coming now.
Are InMe an unsung band? Is Overgrown Eden a forgotten classic? Well…you can make up your own mind on that. Us? We've certainly made up our mind. In fact, we're not even going to bother playing coy with you here - we only did this episode because we were asked to do it for “the patter” by friend of the pod Craig B. He also paid us a handsome sum of money for the “privilege” and we really wish he hadn't. We also decided it was time to do this because we're “clearing the decks”, so to speak, of our old Patreon tiers before we move to the new Unsung Record Club. Check out how cool this is - we'll be shipping records soon! Anyway, if you're a fan of the band InMe, you might want to skip this episode. Have the fans left yet? Good. First thing's first - we've heard that they're all nice guys. In fact we've heard that lead singer/only remaining original member Dave McPherson is a very nice guy. That's awesome. You love to see it. But we're sorry Dave…we just didn't like any of your music. On this episode we canter through all 7 of their albums before returning to Overgrown Eden and giving it a good once over. We also talk about nostalgia festivals and bands that probably should have stopped years ago but are somehow still going. Alongside this, we discuss the finer points of why bands suddenly seem to disappear after being on the cusp of fame, and dive into how the now defunct PledgeMusic (and other crowdfunding platforms) were something of a panacea for bands with small but fervent fan bases. There's no vote this week. We've taken the power away from you on this one. We don't want this in our discography. Next week - a surprise! You can still sign up to our new Patreon Record Club! Find out more about it below!

Jim and Mike Interview KELLY OGDEN from the Punk Band THE DOLLYROTS! Jim has been a fan of the band since 2007 when they released their cover of "brand new key". We had a lot of fun talking to Kelly about the new album (Down the Rabbit Hole), her acting debut on CSI, playing with Bowling for Soup, being signed to blackheart records, traveling with kids, Rabbits, Todd Rundgren on a train ... and more! *********** ABOUT THE DOLLYROTS: The Dollyrots are a Los Angeles, California based pop punk band made up of Kelly Ogden (vocals/bass) and Luis Cabezas (guitar/vocals). Since their formation 18 years ago the husband and wife duo has played over a thousand shows in the US and Europe, shared the stage with many of their idols, and released six studio albums along with several EPs, singles, splits, and a live concert film. Their last 3 albums have peaked in the Top 20 of the Billboard Heatseeker's chart, earning heavy rotation on Sirius/XM radio and followed releases on Lookout Records & Joan Jett's Blackheart Records. What started as a hobby for New College of Florida students (and childhood friends) Kelly Ogden (bass/vocals) and Luis Cabezas (guitar) became a career when Ogden and Cabezas decided to make their band, The Dollyrots, a full-time gig in 2001. The duo set off on a road trip to find a new home for the group and settled in Los Angeles in 2002; once there, the pair set about honing a pop-punk sound inspired by the Ramones, the Pixies, the Sex Pistols, Nirvana, and Green Day. Two years later, the band signed with Lookout!/Panic Button Records and released Eat My Heart Out. Following release of their debut the band appeared onscreen on CSI:NY performing two songs off the album. While playing the Vans Warped Tour in 2006 the band members met Joan Jett, who was so taken by the Dollyrots that she offered them a spot on her Blackheart Records label roster after hearing demos of their upcoming LP. The Dollyrots' second album Because I'm Awesome debuted on Blackheart in 2007. The album spawned several singles that made an impact on radio and appeared on film/TV (Easy A, Brave, The Vampire Diaries, Greek, Reaper.) A year later they recorded a version of Jett's song “Bad Reputation” for the soundtrack to the film Endless Bummer, followed up three years later with the slickly produced A Little Messed Up. The first single off this effort, “California Beach Boy”, was featured with a live performance by the band on The Price Is Right. The Dollyrots left Blackheart after that, releasing an EP on their own Arrested Youth label. For their next project, the group turned to crowd-funding site Kickstarter, launching a wildly successful campaign that yielded 2012's The Dollyrots. Working again with co-producer John Fields, the independently released set featured Ogden and Cabezas firmly in charge for the first time in their career as they played all the instruments (save for a few parts done by producer Fields) and had final say over all facets of the process. By this point the Dollyrots had gone through a number of different drummers and generally operated as duo with guest musicians in the studio and on their various tours. Their 2014 release, Barefoot and Pregnant, was recorded during Ogden's pregnancy and was subsequently followed by the birth of the couple's first child. The album fared well critically and reached number seven on Billboard's Heatseekers chart. The all-acoustic Love Songs, Werewolves, and Zombies was released digitally in 2013 to the band's PledgeMusic supporters, and received a public release the following year. The Dollyrots continued to successfully fund their projects via crowd-funding and in 2016, they released their first concert album, the ambitious, double-disc/DVD set Family Vacation: Live in Los Angeles. That same year also saw the release of the three-song EP Mama's Gonna Knock You Out. The end of the year saw them working on two new projects, another kid and their next album. The couple's baby girl was born in November and the John Fields-produced Whiplash Splash was released in early 2017. This was followed by a 7-inch single Get Radical, released on Little Steven Van Zandt's Wicked Cool Records. The band most recently released their album of B-Sides, Rarities and Covers entitled "DOWN THE RABBIT HOLE" Be sure to visit their website at : www.thedollyrots.com for a ton of cool, unique items (we mention some in the interview) Jim and Mike Talk Music can be found on Podbean (host site), Spotify, Apple Podcasts, Iheart Radio, Pandora and almost anywhere you listen to podcasts. For part 3 of the Early Years, we resume the narrative in early 2012. Pat Bailey had left Night Demon to return to school. At that time, Night Demon welcomed drummer John Crerar from The Fucking Wrath into the fold. Crerar brought extreme enthusiasm and energy to the band, despite being from a punk background more than a metal background. Meanwhile in 2012, Night Demon was very much a side project as the members focused on their main bands. Jarvis was busy with Jeff Hershey and the Heartbeats, while Dusty and Armand were firing on all cylinders with New Liberty. The concept of a VenAustin tour was launched, with four bands - including Jeff Hershey and the Heartbeats, New Liberty, Aaron Orbit, and 8Stops7 - playing shows on the way to and from South by Southwest in Austin, Texas. You will hear tour stories and anecdotes from the tour and associated fundraisers. By the end of the VenAustin tour, Jarvis returned to Ventura ready to resume Night Demon activities once again. In this episode, Mark Baratto sits down with singer-songwriter Shelly Fairchild. We talk about how her career began, how leaving her label for another was the best thing for her career, how being true to yourself is the only way to be... and of course, Dolly Parton. More on Shelly Shelly Fairchild isn't new to the industry – but she's far from old news. A staple in the Nashville music community, Fairchild hit the scene to much acclaim with her Columbia Records debut album Ride. The project introduced the young artist's soulful, gospel-tinged brand of alternative country and spawned a Top 40 hit with “You Don't Lie Here Anymore.” She toured with some of the biggest names in the format, including Rascal Flatts, Keith Urban and Tim McGraw, and began to dig her roots in the industry. She again found success in her second release, Ruby's Money, which came steeped in a thick groove with elements of funk – but it was Buffalo, her crowd-funded 2017 release, that marks a milestone in her life and career. “I'm sincerely grateful for both the good and bad things that have happened in my life. Everyone that I've met and worked with over the 20 years that I've lived in Nashville has made me who I am, and I will always carry that in my soul,” says Fairchild. The Jackson, Miss. native started the project in May 2014, launching a PledgeMusic campaign in the hopes that she would find support of her endeavor – and after reaching her goal in just two days, she realized she had. Fairchild's 3rd full length studio record was fully funded and buoyed by the faith of her friends, family and fans. The next two years saw Fairchild working with some of her most inspirational industry co-writers. “House on Fire,” an aching ballad reflecting on the weight of one's past, was the first song that she remembers finishing and feeling confident that it deserved a spot on her record. Co-written by Fairchild along with Lisa Carver and Travis Meadows, the track features subtle but classic country instrumentation and the soft harmonies of one of her favorite bands, the Fairground Saints. From there the singer/songwriter continued to pen songs that she felt carried an important message to either herself or the world around her. Guided by Jeremy Lister and Carey Ott, Fairchild recorded eight of her co-written tracks for the record that would become known to her fans as 'Buffalo'. Though she tackled some serious topics in her writing, Fairchild felt extremely uplifted by her own work and that of others. “I love singers and songwriters,” she smiles. I love to have camaraderie and deep friendships with great singers and musicians. I feel like our community in Nashville is so rich and some of my favorite voices are my friends. I am so fortunate to have worked with so many great artists on Buffalo like Wendy Moten, Lucie Silvas, K.S. Rhoads, Fairground Saints, and of course Carey & Jeremy. My heart felt like it was going to explode by the end of the recording process." Not only does Buffalo emphasize its diversity by featuring guest vocalists, but it also highlights a wide array of musical styles and influences. “There are a lot of different elements to the music that I make,” says Fairchild. “How do you describe some of the best bands that you know? They ended up on pop radio or on country radio, but are they really that kind of act? I have so many influences and I love having them show up in my songs. It feels like that kind of music lasts longer, because it feels real.” As for the name of her last full length album to date, Fairchild says, "In many Native American cultures, the buffalo is a symbol of gratitude and abundance. I am from Choctaw ancestry and I completely connect with the idea that though buffalo carry a lot on their shoulders, their horns are always pointing up to the sky. There's always this hope that the weight will be lifted." A longtime hidden gem in the trove of Nashville musicians, Fairchild continues to keep her head and her heart pointing up to the sky. Between singing background vocals for the likes of Jason Aldean, Eric Church, Martina McBride, Crystal Gayle (to name a few), appearing as a regular on The Grand Ole Opry, writing songs for film and television, touring across the country and continuously working on future projects, it is clear she is just getting started. “At times I've gotten down about my own path, but when I really take a good look at it – it's not just full of detours and dead ends,” she said. “It's a wide path, and it's full of so many spontaneous and amazing things.” Website: https://shellyfairchild.com Instagram: http://instagram.com/shellyfairchild Facebook: http://www.facebook.com/shellyfairchild Twitter: https://twitter.com/shellyfairchild Spotify: https://t.co/jL6dASNf9Q Apple Music: https://t.co/xcXLf9bWbH Amazon Music: https://t.co/KJvcqg6WCY

Where the streets have no name".

Senser special with Heitham Al-Sayed in conversation with David Eastaugh In 1993, Senser released two indie singles on Ultimate – "Eject" and "The Key". In March 1994, Senser released their third single, "Switch", which entered the UK Singles Chart at number 39. Senser's first album, Stacked Up, was released in May 1994, and entered the UK Albums Chart at number 4. At the beginning of 1995, Senser toured the UK supported by Skunk Anansie before setting off to tour the United States with Moby. It was during this tour that the band decided to split over musical differences. Al-Sayed and Morgan left to form a new band with Haggis called Lodestar. The remaining members of Senser found a new drummer, Paul Soden, and set about writing Senser's second album. During the spring of 1997, they recorded the second album. And in the summer of 1997 De-Senser released "Om". In the summer of 1998, Haigh was able to tour and the band released the second album, Asylum. Once again musical differences became apparent and in February 1999 the band decided to split. In 2003, the original lineup reunited originally to perform at one show, but decided to re-form and record again. They released their third studio album SCHEMAtic in 2004. A concert performance was released in 2006 as Live At The Underworld. In 2009, they released How To Do Battle. In 2013, they released their fifth album To the Capsules via Pledgemusic and toured with Erika Footman on vocals in place of Kerstin Haigh. In 2014, to celebrate the 20th anniversary of their debut Stacked Up, the band re-released the album in expanded edition with a remastered version of the original tracks on the first CD, and bonus tracks from the era (remixes and previously unreleased songs) on the second disc.

Hello welcome to episode 10!! Our guest this week are the delightful "The Lounge Kittens" who talk in depth about their time with Pledge Music and playing tribute in their live shows to fallen heroes who have died by suicide. We also talk about some of their highlight of being in a band that can play Edinburgh Festival and the main stage at Sonisphere as well as playing nights at a SOLD OUT Wembley Arena. As always we big up our sponsors Fireball UK who have been with us since day one of this podcast.
In this episode we're talking to someone very special, who's done many things. Always looking ahead and always thinking outside the box. His name is Benji Rogers and he is the founder of Pledge Music, a board member of SAE - the renowned school for all thing music & video -, a serial investor and advisor in many music and tech companies, and the founder of the Dot Blockchain Music project! Benji was so kind to take the time to speak to us at Ludlow House in New York. The Dot Blockchain Music project is the attempt to create a global decentralized database for music rights, in the blockchain. I know that sounds very technical! But firstly, we all know how important trackable music rights are to make sure that artists get paid fairly; And Benji has good analogies to explain what the blockchain does. But on top of that, we also speak about the industry more generally and he tells about his approach to using platforms like Facebook to interact with fans - what he recommends you do and what you shouldn't. Please note that this interview was recorded a few month' back, so you might have heard that Benji has now left this company. But nothing we talk about has lost its relevancy. The DotBlockchainMusic project is something that feels like it should already have been created ages ago, because it's just fair to artist. Well it hasn't and Benji took on the task. I think he's a very inspiring person for all of us, challenging the status quo, and utilising the newest technologies to do so. Enjoy! --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/musicinnovation/message

Voices In My Head Podcast Episode #282 : Meet John TibbsOur featured guest this week on Voices In My Head is musician John Tibbs. In 2016, John released his debut full-length, Dead Man Walking, to great critical acclaim. Reviewers said about the album, “with shades of Bruce Springsteen, John Mellencamp and Creedence Clearwater Revival, the heartland rock Tibbs traffics in is just right for the weightier, darker side of the redemption story.” Following the success of his 2016 debut record which garnered a Top-20 AC (Christian) single and a Dove Award nomination in the Rock/Contemporary Album of the Year category, John partnered with ToneTree and Bethel/Heritage Media to release his follow up, Heartland, crowd-funded through his online community via PledgeMusic to continued great critical acclaim. "Unabashed Midwesterner John Tibbs has released more authentic, epic and quality tunes in his short run as a professional songwriter than many artists will produce in a lifetime. Heartland brims with the kind of honest rock and roll that the late, great Tom Petty trafficked in, with the 'heart-on-his-sleeve' craftsmanship that creates an immediate bond with the listener on the first pass." — Jesus Freak Hideout"With the Heartland EP, John Tibbs combines thought-provoking lyrics with his rock roots style. The captivating sonic landscape will keep listeners entertained song after song, indicating good things to come from Tibbs in the future.” — New Release TodayBlessings,Rick Lee Jameswww.RickLeeJames.com This is a public episode. LOTL RADIO WELCOMES LARRY DODSON & JAMES ALEXANDER OF THE BAR-KAYS DEBUTING THERE NEW HIT SINGLE "GROWN FOLKS "the first single, features highly sought after hip-hop producer, and son of James Alexander, Jazze Pha. J The Bar-Kays' are currently working on their 30th album. “Grown Folks,” the first single, features highly sought after hip-hop producer, and son of James Alexander, Jazze Pha. Just as the Bar-Kays have always been able inject their sound with the style of the day, they are using the technology of the day to fund their forthcoming album. A Pledge Music campaign was a launched in August and campaign incentives include Bar-Kays memorabilia, performance opportunities, and even a chance to name the album. Throughout their career the Bar-Kays have always taken time to give back to the community, whether through performing for US Troops in Kuwait and Iraq or volunteering with students at the Stax Music Academy. They've had many tragedies and triumphs, and many lesser acts would have called it quits after that fateful plane crash. “Believe it or not, even though we were youngsters, we had wisdom beyond our years. As 17 and 18 year olds, we all agreed that if something happened to any of us, whoever remained would carry on the band. I made a promise and kept it,” James Alexander says; “And the legend continues” says Larry Dodson.
