In my African Latin Music mix, I will lean heavily on an outstanding musician from this music genre, Pape Fall. He blew my ears apart when I first heard his music and his name resonates deeply within the world of African and Latin music. Pape Fall is a Senegalese musician, singer, and saxophonist, Fall has spent decades crafting a unique blend of Afro-Cuban rhythms with traditional Senegalese melodies with Latin influences. As the founder of the renowned band African Salsa, he has left an indelible mark on the global music scene, carrying the rich musical traditions of his homeland onto international stages. As the founder of African Salsa, he has brought his vibrant sound to audiences worldwide, blending the rich musical traditions of Senegal with Latin influences. A Journey Through Music Born in Dakar in 1947, Fall began his musical career in 1966 with Dakar Rhythm before joining the legendary Star Band in the 1970s. In 1976, he formed African Salsa, a group that quickly gained popularity for its infectious energy and innovative fusion of styles. Their first major international release, Artisanat, showcased Fall's exceptional talent on the saxophone and vocals, earning him recognition as a pioneer of African salsa. Les 1ers invités de la #SessionLive sont le groupe Da Break pour la sortie du nouvel album Steady.Comme d'autres ont pu le faire avant eux (Gainsbourg, Snoop Dogg, Lavilliers ou Sinead O'Connor…), DA BREAK nous embarque pour revisiter leurs meilleurs tracks façon «Reggae Vibes», et nous propose de redécouvrir son répertoire avec un son plus «roots» que jamais. Une parenthèse enchantée qui parlera autant aux fans de la première heure qu'aux amateurs du genre; une bulle hors du temps d'un groupe en pleine introspection, libérant enfin une facette différente de son ADN. L'idée d'un «auto remix reggae old school» germait depuis un long moment, avec la volonté de se plonger dans une esthétique de sons 60's/70's et de rendre hommage à cette culture Reggae, ce monument qu'ils aiment et respectent tant. Non, c'est plutôt dans les chemins buissonniers que s'inscrit la musique de Zoom Zemmatt - qui donne son nom à l'album -, en une dizaine de titres qui rassemblent les sédiments d'une vie passée en musiques, au pluriel de son suggestif. Et pourtant, ce n'était pas écrit d'avance pour celui qui est né à Thiès, grande cité à une heure de route de Dakar et épicentre de la construction du chemin de fer dans la sous-région, dans une lignée familiale d'agriculteurs. Son père est cheminot, sa mère gère le foyer.Aux premières heures de l'Indépendance, la tradition qui veut que la musique soit exercée par des griots est prégnante, mais le jeune Ousseynou - son prénom, Mangane étant son nom - va néanmoins comme d'autres oser s'aventurer dans ce qui n'est alors pas vraiment un métier. « J'ai grandi dans un quartier peuplé des gens de la sous-région, Nigériens comme Maliens, venus travailler à la construction du chemin de fer. Dans cette ambiance pluriethnique, il y avait tout le temps des activités culturelles, et c'est comme ça que je suis arrivé dans la musique ! »Encore gamin, il y verra le mythique Rail Band de Bamako, entre autres. Et y sera bercé par les musiques afro-cubaines, celle des Baobab, Number One et autre Star Band. Sans compter le Dieuf Dieul et le Royal Band, dans un versant plus traditionnel, deux bands de Thiès. « Et à la même époque, j'ai commencé à écouter aussi les musiques afro-américaines et anglaises. » Jazz, blues, folk, pop, tout passe dans les oreilles de ce jeune qui suit des cours de théâtre au collège, une « leçon d'humilité » dira-t-il bien plus tard, et tâte de la guitare grâce à un de ses oncles.Dans les années 90, il monte le groupe Nakodjé, qui signifie le potager « C'était un travail atypique de recherche : on cherchait à concilier le traditionnel et le moderne, en mettant en avant des instruments comme le balafon, la flûte peule, la calebasse, et en les utilisant autrement que lors des réunions traditionnelles. » Puis, après une tournée en Suisse, il découvre Limoges et s'y installe.  En 2011, il sort Lann la, (Y'a quoi ?), un premier album autoproduit. 2019, Lëkkëlô (le lien) mais le Covid ne laissera pas sa chance à ce second album.Novembre 2022, Laborie Jazz rentre dans le jeu et Zoom Zemmatt voit le jour. Mangane rassemble ainsi toutes les pièces qui ont façonné sa singularité depuis tant d'années, à l'image de son répertoire, « une musique suffisamment ouverte pour permettre l'improvisation », où celui qui joue de la guitare mais aussi de la kalimba s'épanche principalement en wolof sur les questions qui le taraudent depuis toujours : l'immigration, les jeunes, l'amour, le respect. From the 1970s to the present—hip-hop and Afrobeats notwithstanding—the most beloved and popular music in Senegal has been and remains mbalax. Mbalax grew out of a scene where urban bands Dakar bands like the Star Band and Orchestra Baobab were experimenting with Afro-Cuban music, funk and other foreign styles, blending and mixing them with local traditions. Perhaps inevitably, Wolof sabar drumming entered the mix in a big way, and mbalax was born. Sabar drums, played with one stick and one hand, deliver complex, cracking rhythms that are the backbone of this dynamic genre. This Hip Deep program traces the emergence and development of mbalax with insights from ethnomusicologist Patricia Tang, author of Masters of the Sabar. Produced by Simon Rentner.

El 1° de diciembre la web del grupo volvió a estar activa,​ y el 10 de diciembre se confirma el resto de la formación de la banda: el baterista Mike Terrana, el bajista Magnus Rosen (ex-HammerFall), el guitarrista Jorge Salán y el tecladista José Paz.Así mismo, el nuevo logo añade un subtítulo al nombre de la banda, quedando como "Avalanch All Star Band".Como parte de la conmemoración de El ángel caído, Rionda anunció una regrabación del LP con la nueva formación de la banda, la cual se puso a financiamiento de los fanes por medio de la plataforma PledgeMusic.La meta de la campaña se logró antes de dos meses de lanzada, y a sus colaboradores se les puso a disposición la descarga digital del disco el 16 de mayo.El primer concierto de la nueva gira ocurrió el 29 de abril en el festival Viñarock 2017 en Albacete. With the summer winding down the members of the CE Pro All-Star Band are ramping their efforts up. More specifically, the guys are deep into their practice routines working towards making their now annual appearance at the CEDIA Expo 2022 event as memorable as possible. Coming off a three-year break in their live performances, band members are excited to play two sets of classic rock songs in front of their co-workers, peers and friends at the Kay Bailey Hutchison Convention Center in Dallas. Taking time from their work schedules and practice regimes, band members took some time to look ahead to what it will feel like to play at the expo and they discuss the setlists in this episode of the CE Pro Podcast.

Rumulus Tunga – George Mukabi (Kenya)Une toute petite carrière pour cet artiste décédé trop jeune suite à une dispute avec la famille de sa femme.Il laisse derrière lui une trentaine de morceau, et un fils, lui aussi guitariste âgé aujourd’hui d’une 60aine d’année.Ce morceau est enregistré par le fils d’ailleurs, puisque Johnstone Ouko Mukabi à sortie en 1985 un vinyl avec sur la face A les chansons enregistrées par son père et la face B, des reprises qu’il a fait de musique écrites par son père.L’album s’appelle « Mtoto Si Nguo ». Beza Bakili Ma Nyon – Ondigui & Bota Tabansi International (Zaïre)Ça date de 1973, et c’est la rencontre entre le soukous congolais et le highlife ghanéen, une dérivation très intéressante : le highlife-soukous.On garde le rythme soukous qu’on ralentit un peu, on fait rentrer des cuivres, on amplifie la ligne de basse, derrière...Début des 70’s c’est aussi le début de l’Afrobeat, et bien que le highlife-soukous était le son des soirées nigérianes pendant les 70/80’s, au niveau international il a été supplanté par l’éclosion de l’Afrobeat.Sauf à un endroit : La côte caribéenne de la Colombie, ou l’on pouvait encore écouter du highlife-soukous. On aime beaucoup la musique Afro dans ce coin particulier du monde. C’est l’endroit où les anciens esclaves s’étaient installés. Depuis les années 60, un courant musical afro-colombien est en train de voir le jour. Viva Nigeria – Fela Kuti (Nigéria)Parce que son nom en entier c’est plutôt Fela Hildegart Ransome Anikulapo Kuti, mais il le recto de l’album n’aurait pas suffi à tout écrire alors on a simplifié à Fela Kuti.Fela Kuti c’est le père de l’Afrobeat, et ses deux fils Seun et Femi sont les dignes représentants de leur père.Fondateur de l'organisation République de Kalakuta au Nigeria, qui est le nom que le musicien Fela Kuti donnait à la maison accueillant sa famille, les membres de son groupe et son studio d'enregistrement. Située à Mushin, dans la banlieue de Lagos, elle abrite aussi une clinique gratuite. Fela déclare son indépendance vis-à-vis du gouvernement nigérian après son retour des États-Unis en 1970.Et ce titre date justement de 1970 ! Massani Cissé – Orchestre Laye Thiam (Sénégal)Laye Thiam, de son vrai nom Abdoulaye Thiam est un monstre de la musique sénégalaise, et j’espère que vous l’aurez compris parce que ce morceau est quand même énorme !Abdoulaye et son orchestre ont collaboré avec les plus grands artistes sénégalais : Star Band, Youssou n’Dour, Orchestre Baobab...C’est une ré-édition du label Analog Africa, toujours aussi bon quand il s’agit d’aller digger des pépites inconnues au fin fond de l’Afrique. Hommage à Omar Bongo – Gnonnas Pédro (Bénin)Effectivement, on ne peut que rendre hommage au dévouement d’Omar Bongo vis à vis de la France.Il a toujours été un homme d’État très proche des intérêts des gouvernements français.Quel qu’ils soient d’ailleurs.Il faut dire qu’il a été au pouvoir de 1967 à 2009, il en a croisé des présidents français.En tout cas on le remerciera pour son allégeance, pour l’uranium qu’il nous a fourni, le pétrole aussi, et les différentes mallettes qu’il a pu faire déposer dans les divers cabinets ministériels des différents pays.Et on saura bien lui rendre puisque son principal opposant, Germain Mba, est assassiné en 1970 à Libreville, par deux mercenaires français. Rien, cependant, ne permet d'incriminer le président gabonais Joromi – Sir Victor Uwaifo (Nigéria)Joromi est un mot qui vient du Nigeria, cela peut signifier : soit un style de robe ou gilet brodé, soit un style de musique high-life popularisé par Sir Victor Uwaifo.Dans le folklore ancien, Joromi était un guerrier qui combattait et battait tous les rivaux possibles sur terre.Sans rivaux sur terre pour s'engager dans la bataille, il a décidé de se battre avec des êtres de l'au-delà.Défiant les avertissements des anciens du pays, il s'est engagé dans une bataille avec un guerrier de l'au-delà, mais il n'est jamais revenu pour dire s'il était victorieux.C’est l'histoire de Joromi que Sir Victor nous raconte dans ce morceau. Sensenko – Tele Jazz (Guinée)Très exactement Tele Jazz de Télimélé.Télimélé qui est une belle bourgade au centre de la Guinée, croisement de la N21, de la N22 et de la célébrissime N24, la nationale qui vient de nulle part et va nulle part.Le télé Jazz était l’orchestre fédérale de la région de Télimélé La Grosse Poupée – Jacques Bracmort (Guadeloupe)Petite biguine rigolote !1969, c’est la date d’enregistrement de cet album, qui sera le dernier de Jacques Bracmort. Puisqu’il décèdera dans un accident de moto cette même année.Il est accompagné du groupe les Maxel’s, un groupe formé d’amis qui se connaissent depuis le lycée. Sous la houlette de Monsieur Labor dit Jean Goubè qui était saxophoniste lui-même et qui a supervisé l’encadrement de ces jeunes. Et d’ailleurs Malxel’s ça vient de la contraction de Max et Edouard Labor, ses fils. El Aguardientosky – Los Graduados (Colombie)Petite Cumbia colombienne rigolote !« Sírvame un aguardientoskycon limonsoskycantineroskyY tranquilos hermanoskyque yo tengoskycon que pagosky ».« Sers-moi une aguardienteAvec du citronTenancierEt t’inquiètes pas mon frèreQue j’ai ce qu’il fautPour te payer »L’aguardiente, en Colombie, c’est une liqueur anisée contenant un alcool de canne de sucre. Une sorte d’eau-de-vie quoi.Dans ce morceau, le type (Gustavo Quintero) est complètement saoul et raconte, en ajoutant des terminaisons de ruskof à tous les mots, combien il est content d’être amoureux.Le titre date de 1973 Macondo – Banda Y Coros de Repelón (Colombie)À mi-chemin entre Carthagène des Indes et Barranquilla, sur la côte Caraïbe de la Colombie.Repelón, ce qui veut dire en espagnol « ce que l’on arrache », « ce que l’on enlève ».On raconte que le nom de cette ville, Repelón, vient du fait que les premiers habitant qui se sont installés dans ce lieu, sont venus là pour cultiver les terres.Repelón n’est pas très haut, 10/15m au-dessus du niveau de la mer, mais les terres en contre-bas, étaient, depuis la construction du canal de Dique non-loin transformées en marécages.Et donc Repelón, c’était l’action de cueillir.Le Titre est de 1969.

Pape Ndiaye – Orchestra Baobab (Sénégal)Salsa sénagalaise les amis, mais pas par n’importe qui !Ça se chante en wolof et c’est l’Orchestra Baobab.Musique des 70’s, au Sénégal à cette époque-là, il y a forcément au milieu de tout ça le Miami Club, et le Star Band les dinosaures de la musique contemporaines sénégalaise.En effet l’Orchestra est constituée de par une majeure partie de musiciens qui sont des transfuges du groupe historique le Star Band. Groupe qui se produisait dans la plus fameux club de Dakar de l’époque : le Miami Club. Jarabi – AfroCubism (Cuba/Mali)Instant anecdote :En 1996, Nick Gold le patron de World Circuit met sur pied un « super groupe » de musiciens cubains et maliens pour qu’ils enregistrent à La Havane.Mais à cause d’une histoire de passeports perdus, les Africains n’arriveront jamais à bon port, et les Cubains enregistrent donc seuls le disque Buena Vista Social Club que le destin conduira à un succès planétaire.Drôle, non ?Aujourd’hui, Nick Gold est finalement parvenu à réunir les invités originellement prévus, avec en plus une brochette de stars cubaines et africaines, pour une série de sessions inspirées, et le grand album afro-cubain « perdu » voit enfin le jour, quatorze ans après sa conception. À la tête de l’équipe cubaine figure Eliades Ochoa, le chanteur-guitariste au chapeau de cow-boy qui chante Chan Chan au sein du Buena Vista Social Club. Les deux Maliens, considérés comme faisant partie des meilleurs instrumentalistes mondiaux, sont Bassekou Kouyaté, le maître multi-primé du luth n’goni, et Djelimady Tounkara, l’extraordinaire guitariste du Rail Band. Avec eux, le Grupo Patria d’Eliades, une des formations les plus anciennes et les plus appréciées de Cuba, Toumani Diabaté le génie insaisissable de la kora, Kasse Mady Diabaté le légendaire chanteur griot malien, et Lassana Diabaté un innovateur du balafon. Gopher – Yma Sumac (Pérou)La chanteuse est surnommée :La déesse inca aux cinq octaves, ou alors La plus haute voix du monde, ou encore La vierge royale vouée au culte et arrachée aux grands prêtres incas par le show-business, ou bien Le rossignol latino, ou même La déesse des montagnes, voire La Castafiore inca...Son vrai nom c’est Zoila Augusta Emperatriz Chávarri del Castillo.Elle est une descendante reconnue du vingt-troisième et dernier empereur inca Atahualpa, assassiné en 1533 par les Espagnols dans le nord du Pérou.Je suis, je suis, je suis... ?YMA SUMAC !Plusieurs fois invitée à se convertir à l'opéra, elle a préféré se consacrer aux chants incas « que les conquistadors n'ont pu tuer ».« J'ai mon propre rock'n roll, dit-elle. Pas celui que vous entendez à la radio, mais un rock mystérieux et dansant, avec un feeling péruvien. Il peut vous rendre heureux ou vous arracher des larmes. »Je vous laisse écouter on se retrouve tout à l’heure. Sékirité – Maurice Alcindor (Martinique)Morceau 100% Boogaloo ! La différence entre boogaloo et salsa réside essentiellement dans, pour l’un dans une importance donnée aux paroles (généralement amusantes et bizarres), et pour l’autre le plus important c’est le rythme (paroles généralement plus sérieuses). La Churumbela – Canalón de Timbiquí (Colombie)Nidia Góngora, la voix leader, a fait partie de projets importants en dehors de la Colombie avec l'aide du producteur anglais Will Holland aka Quantic. Elle a récemment tourné en Europe avec le projet Ondatropica. En 2003, Canalon de Timbiqui est devenu un groupe officiel en décidant de participer au Festival Petronio Alvarez - le festival le plus important de la musique afro-colombienne - et a gagné les prix de meilleur chant et de meilleur arrangement musical. Actuellement, certains membres du groupe, surtout les hommes, vivent encore à Timbiquí où ils continuent de chercher de l'or dans les mines. Te Télé – Binda Ngazolo (Cameroun)Conteur de profession, autrement dit griot, ses récits s’enracinent dans le centre-sud du Cameroun, le pays Beti (Cameroun/Gabon) où l’humour s’intègre à la vie. Dans la culture des anciens Beti, le moment du conte était le lieu de rencontre de toutes les générations. Pour les jeunes, le conte était ludique et pédagogique. Pour les adultes, le conte était philosophique, voir initiatique. Monkey Talk – Hubert Porter & George Moxey & His Calypso Quartet (Jamaïque)Le Calypso s’est exporté en Jamaïque aussi, on est au début des années 50 !« Human you should be ashamed, human something that you do, oh well don’t think a monkey will ever do » : Homme tu devrais avoir honte, homme il y a des choses que tu fais, je pense que même un singe ne les ferait pas.C’est assez contemporain comme message... Tia Anao Zaho – Jaojoby (Madagascar)« Le Salegy : danse et musique la plus populaire de Madagascar. Pour les théoriciens c’est du 6/8, mais moi-même je ne suis pas théoricien. Disons que c’est la musique traditionnelle de Madagascar.Executé avec les instruments venus de l’occident, autrement dit, les instruments qui sonnent fort, parce qu’il y avait le souci d’avoir plus de décibels pour pousser les gens à danser »Eusèbe Jaojoby a créé son propre style musical, le Salegy, et il en est le plus fervent représentant, ce qui fait de lui le « roi du Salegy ».Présent au nord du Madagascar, à Mayotte et à la Réunion. Naonao Naonao – Tutus De La Guyane (Guyane)Attention ! Rythmes chaloupés !Ça vient de la Guyane Òdio Sem Valor – Pedrinho (Cap-Vert)Ça vient du Cap-Vert! Petites îles en face de Dakar, sur la même latitude.Des îles magnifiques d’ailleurs, du bout du monde !On connaît leur plus grande ambassadrice qu’est Cesaria Evora !Mais le Cap-Vert recèle de petites perles musicales aussi bonnes que celle-ci.Extrait de l’excellentissime compilation « SPACE ECHO : The Mystery behind the Cosmic Sound of Cabo Verde Finally Revealed”, Compli où l’on découvre tout de la richesse musicale de ces ilots.Arrangements de folie pour ce morceau mélange d’Afro-Funk et de Funaná.Le Funaná c’est le style musical du Cap-Vert. Rien à voir avec Cesária Evora les gens, on vous a dit qu’on partait en exploration ! Fleuve – Ablaye Cissoko & Constantinople (Sénégalais)Je ne vous parle plus de Ablaye Cissoko dont on a déjà écouté quelques morceaux... Sur ce titre intitulé Fleuve Saint Louis, le géant de la kora s’associe à l’ensemble irano-québécois, Constantinople, pour reprendre et réinterpréter ce petit chef d’œuvre. Clap de fin !

Cette semaine encore on va vous épuiser !On va en faire des kilomètres...Bénin, Nigéria, Congo, Venezuela, Haïti, Rep-Dom, Colombie, Angola, Trinidad, Sénégal, Réunion...Honnêtement ? Sauerkraut Calypso – Herbert Howard (Trinidad et Tobago)Ça vient de Antigua est c’est du Calypso !Vous vous souvenez ce qu’on disait sur le Calypso ?Fin du 19ème siècle, musique des esclaves, propos engagés...Le morceau que je viens de vous faire écouter raconte une histoire bien particulière.Le titre c’est Sauerkraut Calypso.Sauerkraut en allemand ça veut dire choucroute.C’est donc le calypso choucrouteLe morceau date de 1956.Alors je l’ai écouté une bonne 50aine de fois d’affilé pour comprendre les paroles, et franchement ce n’était pas facile, mais... ce que j’en ai compris c’est que le morceau raconte le voyage que Herbert Howard, l’auteur de la chanson, a fait à dos d’âne, des Antilles jusqu’à Berlin, où il voulait discuter avec Adolphe Hitler.Mais il se trouve qu’en arrivant là-bas on lui apprend que Hitler était déjà mort. S’en suis toute une mésaventure avec la gestapo qui veut lui voler son âne...Beaucoup d’humour dans ce morceau évidemment ! J’espère que vous avez apprécié la belle intro aux marimbas et qu’elle vous a mis tout de suite dans l’ambiance tropicale qui allait bien ! El Sapo (Golpa Guyanés) – Serenata Guyanesa (Venezuela)Du folklore venezualien!Avec le groupe Serenata Guyanesa qui chante El Sapo, le crapaud ! Le terme « meringue » est juste une traduction en créole français du « merengue » hispanophone) Chambacu – Aurita Castillo & Su Conjunto (Colombie)CHAMBACU de Aurita Castillo Y Su Conjunto qui chante la beauté de son quartier : Chambacu ! Un ancien quartier de Cartagène en Colombie.C’était une bonne vieille cumbia enregistrée en 75 par cette toute jeune chanteuse que l’on a complètement perdu des radars suite à sa courte carrière, et sur laquelle on ne sait pas grand-chose si ce n’est qu’elle laisse derrière elle 2 albums et ce succès Chumbacu donc. Gade Mache Ti Peyi Mouin – Atis Indepandan (Haïti)Ce morceau je l’adore. Je l’ai découvert y a quelques jours, dans une boutique, sur un vynil qui s’appel Ki Sa Pou-N Fe? « Qu’est ce que ça peut vous faire »Un album édité en 75 pendant la répression de François « Baby Doc » Duvalier, à l’époque, président à vie de Haïti.Tout l’album c’est que de la guitare et de la percu, très simple, tous les chants sont révolutionnaires socialistes.Enregistré par des artis indepandan comme c’est écrit sur la pochette, pour ne pas se griller.Je vous laisse apprécier. L’Argent Appelle l’Argent – Pamelo’s Mounka (Congo Brazzaville)Vous avez déjà connu quelqu’un qui s’appelait Pamelo ? Ce qui se rapproche le plus c’est pomelos mais ça n’a rien à voir.Par contre « jamais vu un riche prêter de l’argent à un pauvre... » Là Pamelo je suis désolé, mais les temps ont changé.Le morceau est génial, les arrangements sont vraiment super... au dos de la pochette du 33 tours il est écrit « une bonne musique, un bon son, c’est l’affaire d’EDDY SON ». Bravo Eddy ! (NDLR : EDDY SON = maison de disque du guadeloupéen Eddy Gustave basée dans le 14ème arrondissement de Paris, et qui à produit une trentaine d’album d’artistes antillais ou africains). Diandioli – Étoile De Dakar (Sénégal)L’Étoile de Dakar, ou le Star Of Dakar comme ils aimaient se faire appeler, eux aussi ont fait partie du Miami Club de Dakar, LE lieu en place à l’époque !Et surtout l’EDD c’est le groupe des débuts de Youssou N’dour. N’gola – Os Kiezos (Angola)Holala qu’est ce qu’il est doux ce petit son !On dirait une comptine pour enfant. Sanm Ou – Danyél Waro (Réunion)On part à la Réunion.Pas d’instruments. Juste le texte, chanté, d’une voix limpide ! la force de l’acoustique ! Qu’est c’qu’elle est belle cette voix !C’est Danyel Waro une des figures fortes de la culture réunionnaise, qui chante Sanm Ou (« avec toi »), une déclaration d’amour saisissante et poignante à son île.

Côte d’Ivoire, Mali, Congo, Afrique du Sud, Ghana, Burkina, Réunion, Angola, Niger...Là, c’est une émission 100% africaine !Prenez vos bagages, montez en voiture, Taxi Brousse vous embarque dans une traversée transafricaine d’une heure !Que du bonheur ! Lamento Cubano – Amara Touré et l’Ensemble Black & White (Guinée)Guinéen qui déménage avec ses parents en banlieue de Dakar qui a fait une carrière de musicien au Sénégal, au Cameroun et au Gabon.Amara Touré fait lui aussi partie du Star Band de Dakar comme Youssou n’dour d’ailleurs !Dans ses débuts à Dakar il a, lui aussi, fréquenté le Miami Club de Ibrahim Kassé, qui se faisait appeler Ibra Kassé, c’est pas des conneries. Ibra Kassé ! Il avait le sens de la punch line. Son coussin et associé en affaire se faisait appeler Kassé plus.Bref, c’est pas l’histoire.Celle que je vais vous raconter c’est un scénario digne d’affaires sensibles.Amara Touré arrête sa carrière en 1996 lorsqu’il est au Gabon, et disparaît complètement des radars. Il est absolument introuvable. Aucun des gens qui ont croisé jusque-là n’a de nouvelle de lui.On prétend qu’il ait basculé dans les forces armées gabonaises ou dans les forces navales et terrestres gabonaises.Il laisse derrière lui trois 45 tours et un 33 tours.Dont ce titre Lamento Cubano extrait de l’un d’eux et chanté en langue sousous, une langue parlé en Sierra Leone et en Guinée. Lumumba – Maravillas De Mali (Cuba/Mali)Héro National congolais. Homme fort de l’indépendance du Congo belge ! Patrice Lumumba !Décédé en 1961.Maravillas de Mali lui rend hommage.Une formation cubano-malienne dont on a déjà entendu le titre « Chez Fatimata ». Va pas t’imaginer que c’est de la musique brésilienne !Samba commence sa carrière à Kinshasa (RDC) puis s’exporte en Ouganda, et continue sa carrière au Kenya (comme nombreux groupes congolais d’ailleurs).Virunga c’est le nom d’une chaine de volcan en RDC. Meadowlands Mielieland – Nancy Jacobs and Her Sisters (Afrique du Sud)Chanté en Bantou et plus particulièrement en Zulu, dans les townships.Les townships c’était les quartiers réservés aux noirs dans l’Afrique du Sud de l’Apartheid.Le Marabi (genre de cette musique) était considéré par les classes aisées comme un style de musique de rebel puisqu’il était associé à l’illégalité qui pouvait sévir dans ces bidonvilles, les raids de police, le sexe, les classes les plus pauvres...Et comme les noirs étaient persécutés, le marabi aussi était interdit. En 36 à l’exhibition de l’empire anglais qui avait lieu à Johannesburg le Marabi était écarté des musiques que l’on présenta.Chanson anti-apartheid chanter en 1956, elle a été écrite suite à la relocalisation forcée des noirs du quartier de sophiatown, un quartier de johannesburg, au township de Meadowland. Tu Bois Beaucoup – Le Ry-Co Jazz (Congo Brazzaville)Le Boogaloo : un genre de musique qui vient du mélange entre soul, rythme & blues et de rythme afro-cubain comme le mambo et la rumba.Le style est né dans les faubourgs new-yorkais de spanish harlem.Ce qu’on va entendre c’est une version version créole du boogaloo, assez rigolote ! Zadie Bobo – Ernesto Djédjé (Côte d’Ivoire)Le King du Ziglibithy… Non pas du ziblibliblibli ! du Ziglibithy ! Je sais, c’est pas facile à dire hein ?! Style de musique type ivoirien ! Antalo – Kantala (Burkina Faso)L’artiste KANTALA et ses musiciens sortent leur nouvel album dont le titre que l’on vient d’entendre, Antalo, est tiré.Il était en concert à la Bellevilloise jeudi 15 aout à 20h.L’entrée était gratuite. Nous quand c’est gratos on y va quoiqu’il arrive !Et tu sais quoi ? Eh ben c’était génial !On a bien plané et dansé sur le son de la kora.Un concert à la fois blues, rock, et reggae mais qui garde ses racines bien encrées au Burkina, pays de naissance de Kantala. Marmay Lontan – Baster (Réunion)Un peu de Séga de la Réunion à suivre avec BASTER.Basse-Terre comme le quartier de Saint-Pierre où est né le groupe en 83 sous l’impulsion d’un instituteur et de quelques élèves.Qui commence par écrire des morceaux de maloya, mais la période est peu propice au groupe ; en témoigne la censure de quelques-uns de leurs morceaux.Le groupe intègre alors le regroupement de groupes militants réunionnais dont Danyel Waro faisait aussi parti et des concerts militants s’organisent un peu partout sur l’île ce qui aura comme effet de faire connaître le groupe. Chéri Ton Disque Est Rayé – Patience Dabany (Gabon)Madame Patience Dabany. La Mama comme on l’appelle là bas... oui mais là bas c’est où ? Là bas c’est au Gabon !L’ex-femme de Omar Bongo.Elle chante Chéri ton disque est rayé.Elle a commencé sa carrière lorsqu’elle était première dame du Gabon, mais c’est une fois séparée qu’elle commence vraiment sa carrière.Depuis elle a plus de 30ans de carrière derrière elle et elle continueC’est de 1995 que date l’album chérie ton disque est rayé. C’est La Vie – Mohamed Karzo (Niger)Magnifique ! On dirait du Jeff Buckley.Ça vient du Niger.Le son somptueux de la guitare du sahel.C’est de la musique touaregMomade Karzo le neveu de Abdallah Ag Oumbadougou, considéré comme le père du blues Touareg au Niger.

Formed in the summer of ’16, The Fifth Star Band is a youthful group of raconteurs looking to make their impact on the music landscape with their soulful jazzy twist on American Traditional Rock. The unique sound The Fifth Star Band has been able to cultivate is largely due to the diverse musical backgrounds each member of the group brings to the table. While at its core, Jordan Sawyer’s songwriting embodies a modern take on American Traditional Rock, throw in some funky bass licks, a strong jazzy beat, and a smooth dose of Eric Pedone's sax and you get a sound unlike any other. In 2010 Memphis's legendary Big Star, one of the most influential bands in rock n roll history, was set to finally get their due, but it was not to be. Just days before a planned showcase at SXSW in Austin, TX, frontman/chief songwriter Alex Chilton passed away, and what was meant to be a celebration and validation of their remarkable career instead became joyous wake featuring some of the biggest names in music. Fast forward to 2017, and the magic of the touring version of that celebration, a band that features original Big Star drummer Jody Stephens, dB's mastermind Chris Stamey, Mike Mills (R.E.M.), Kronos Quartet, Robyn Hitchcock, Jeff Tweedy (Wilco), Dan Wilson (Semisonic), and newcomers Skylar Gudasz and Brett Harris, has been captured on film in the new documentary Thank You Friends: Big Star's Third LIve...and more. Kevin and neighbor Michael are digging deep into the film's soundtrack to to to find out why Big Star was such an important band, ponder the power of tribute, and speculate where this collection of master musicians should go from here. Someone once said "Rock and Roll Never Dies." I could take that a step further. I prefer to think of rock music as getting better with age. The more time passes since the genre first took hold, the more we appreciate the truly great rock artists of our time. Artists like Jeffrey "Skunk" Baxter (Doobie Brothers/Steely Dan), Barry Goudreau (formerly of Boston), Fran Sheehan (formerly of Boston), Leroy "LSR" Romans (The Wailers/3rd World), Robert "Mousey" Thomson (James Brown), and lead vocalist Danny Beissel (Fosterchild). What began as a way to give back to charities eight years ago has become something more, and Danny was good enough to fill us in on how it all began as well as where it's headed.
