Movie of the Year: 1973Paper MoonThis week we discuss Paper Moon! Can it rise high enough to become our Movie of the Year?Paper Moon is a fun little romp about a shady guy and his daughter, seamlessly played by a shady guy and enemy of the show, Ryan O'Neal, and his real-life 10-year-old daughter, Tatum O'Neal, with whom he has always had a strained relationship. We spend most of the show getting into the why's, the no, really why's, and the man, but really, like why's of this decision, but let's somehow put this aside for now.The movie itself follows a conman and his maybe/probably daughter as they scam their way across the Midwest, which is basically destroyed and depopulated by a sad-sounding thing called the Depression. Shot in black and white and an obvious love letter to old timey stories, Paper Moon is constantly walking the line between charming and bleak. We discuss the legacy of the film and whether it is possible to love it despite the pain it caused. Also, we do a little trivia and assemble a team of 1973 Pro-Stars.All that, and Taylor is on the show!Visit our websiteUse our Amazon page!Like us!Follow us!Abortion is healthcareWhile Americans overwhelmingly support the right of an individual to make their own decisions about abortion, unfortunately, that right is no longer protected everywhere in the U.S.The Supreme Court overturned Roe versus Wade on June 24th.Abortion is a basic healthcare need for the millions of people who can become pregnant. Everyone should have the freedom to decide what's best for themselves and their families, including when it comes to ending a pregnancy. This decision has dire consequences for individual health and safety, and could have harsh repercussions for other landmark decisions.Restricting access to comprehensive reproductive care, including abortion, threatens the health and independence of all Americans. Even if you live in a state where abortion rights are upheld, access to safe medical procedures shouldn't be determined by location, and it shouldn't be the privilege of a small few.You can help by donating to local abortion funds. Click click click! Heat that sound?!? It can only be one thing: the ominous, predator clicking of the Yautja. What's a Yautja, you ask? It's the fancy name for the deadly alien species known to moviegoers as the Predator! Yeah, you probably thought you were cool for knowing the term Xenomorph, didn't you? Well now the Yautja has come to let you know your pop culture vocabulary isn't QUITE as good as you thought it was. Anyhoo, Dan cooked up some VERY silly ideas for ways in which Predators could end up in other pop culture properties, then Dave (no, not that Dave), Jess, and Nick had a good time coming up with their very silly titles. Round two is an audio extravaganza that looks at the vanity cartoon projects of several celebrities over the years, in case you were worried that that Predator game wasn't dumb enough. Also, there's a lightning round, as though that would surprise any of you. NOTES ⚠️ Inline notes below may be truncated due to podcast feed character limits. Voice-actor, Townsend Coleman is perhaps one of the most recognizable voices on TV. For 16 years, he was the voice of NBC's "Must See TV" and "Comedy Night Done Right" primetime comedy promos, including hits from Seinfeld and Frasier to 30 Rock and The Office, as well as the promos for "The Tonight Show" starring Jay Leno (then Conan), "Late Night with Conan O'Brien" (then Jimmy Fallon), "Last Call with Carson Daly" and "Saturday Night Live". He currently voices the daily on-air promos for the long-running "Live with Kelly and Michael" and radio spots for "Judge Judy", in addition to regularly voicing primetime promos for ABC Family, The Hub, and now, ABC-TV. But the character behind the voice really came to life in 1985, when Coleman, having just moved to Los Angeles from Cleveland, Ohio, auditioned for and got a part on the animated hit, "Inspector Gadget". As the voice of Corporal Capeman, Gadget's bumbling assistant, he embarked on an entirely new career, providing the voices for some of the most memorable characters in cartoons and commercials. In addition to thwarting evil as the voice of "The Tick", Fox Kids' hit animated series, he has provided the voices for many popular cartoon characters, including Michaelangelo, Rat King, and Usagi Yojimbo on the original, long-running cartoon series, "Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles". He also voiced Waldo on "Where's Waldo?", Gobo, Architect, and Wrench on NBC's animated "Fraggle Rock", Scott/Teen Wolf on "Teen Wolf", Scratch on "Spacecats", the voice of Wayne Gretzky on "Prostars", Riot on "Jem and the Holograms", Dragonflyer on "Glofriends", Rewind on the 80's "Transformers", and 20 years later, Sentinel Prime on "Transformers: Animated" for Cartoon Network, Neddy the Mallet on "Mighty Magiswords" for Nickelodeon, and the voice of Jason Whittaker on Focus on the Family's popular radio drama, "Adventures In Odyssey" Follow Townsend here : https://twitter.com/IBTALKN https://www.instagram.com/ibtalkn https://www.facebook.com/townsendcoleman/

Welcome to the 21st episode of Yesterday's Capers. Every week, Abdullah Moallim will be reviewing and looking back at some of the most memorable and well known tv shows and cartoons.
With Space Jam in our rear view mirror (except for the fact we keep bringing it up, this week included) it's time to look at Michael Jordan's another bizarre 90's kid's product - the cartoon Pro Stars. This is a real thing that happened for three months in 1991 where a cartoon aired on NBC featuring Jordan, Wayne Gretzky and Bo Jackson fighting bad guys and helping children. It only had 13 episodes and yet I still remember it well to this day. Today's Show Notes are going to be very simple and straight forward. We answered the random question: "What was your favorite Saturday Morning Cartoon?" Jihae said "Bo Knows", which apparently was just a commercial. What she meant was "ProStars" with Bo Jackson, Wayne Gretzky, and Michael Jordan. Chris said Bugs Bunny, and Fraggle Rock, but his all time favorite show was "Saved By The Bell". And his new current obsession is Zach Morris is Trash. So, our FIVE TIPS: - HEDGES. We read this book and it was fantastic. You should read it too. Some examples in the book may seem extreme, but we think marriage is worth taking the extra steps to protect it and make it the best and strongest that it can be. - Pray together. Every night. - Invest in your marriage - with time and money. This is a daily task, which will make the date nights, and vacations that much more exciting and wonderful. We shell out a good amount of $ for date nights. So don't think that just because you don't have free babysitters around, you can't go out. And remember, you just need a responsible and wonderful 18+ year old to watch your foster kids. You don't have to find other licensed people to watch your foster babes. - This great book, Boundaries, talks about Togetherness and Separateness. This point is fantastic, and you and your spouse might need to see how you guys divvy up those points. This is hardest for stay-at-home moms I think, but even more necessary then, to figure out. - And finally, cheer each other on! Be each other's greatest cheerleaders. The Good Word of the Day: "Though one may be overpowered, two can defend themselves. A cord of 3 stands is not quickly broken." -Ecclesiastes 4:12 We truly believe that our marriage, plus Jesus, is a strong, and unstoppable force! Take the time necessary to invest in your marriage! If you are in a VERY rough season of your marriage, and you are fostering, we would advise that you stop as soon as possible. Then pause and work on your marriage, and come back healthier and stronger than ever. Thanks for supporting our podcast (what?!? You want to leave a review on iTunes? So great!) and we will be back with another new episode next week!
In 1991 DiC made a show in which the three most famous sportsmen in North America teamed up to fight supervillains with sports-themed gadetry. That's the entire premise. Despite everything about this show, despite the fact that there should be no conceivable way of it working, ProStars ends up being one of the best things we've ever had the pleasure of viewing whilst doing this show. So listen in for this lovely episode in which we enthuse about the cartoon that is all about helping kids.

Originally intended to air on ESPN, ProStars centers on Michael Jordan, Bo Jackson and Wayne Gretzky fighting crime and helping children, often protecting the environment as well. The ProStars franchise also included a licensed breakfast cereal. When the show first came out, the original theme song, "We are ProStars", was an homage to the song "We Will Rock You", by the rock group, Queen (see links below). In later episodes, the song was slowed down, and the chorus was reduced to 'ProStars! Show staaaars!Wayne Gretzky (voiced by Townsend Coleman) nearly always plays the role of comic relief. Inexplicably, his mind is always on food.Bo Jackson (voiced by Dave Fennoy) provides the proverbial muscle for the heroes. He is immensely strong and has a bit of a mean streak. His strength often approaches superhuman levels, such as in the series opening where he uses a gigantic tree trunk like a club against a logging robot.Michael Jordan (voiced by Dorian Harewood) is the leader of the troupe. He is exceptionally smart and talented with complicated contraptions, and encourages children to study mathematics and the sciences.Mom (voiced by Susan Silo), a quasi-Yiddish and Jewish mother stereotype, is the Q to the ProStars' James Bond. She constantly invents wacky gadgets loosely based on sports equipment for the heroes to use. The ProStars spend all their free time in "Mom's Gym," and possibly live there too, which serves as the ProStars' headquarters.Denise (voiced by Diana Barrows) is an attractive young apprentice to Mom. She wants to help the ProStars, yet rarely makes an impact. The Neighbor is a hapless man who wear glasses who happens to live in same the neighborhood as the ProStars' headquarters. By sheer misfortune he happens to fall victim to the malfunctions of the ProStars' machines, such as him being buried in snow when their climate machine goes awry. In one episode he takes a vacation to the Himalayas, enjoying the isolation and confident he is far away from any mishaps the ProStars could unleash, only to find the ProStars are also in the area stopping a villain there.Beastly facts about the ProStars:Bo Jackson's first major-league home run went 475 feet.By the age of ten, Wayne Gretzky scored 378 goals and 139 assists in just 85 games with the Nadrofsky Steelers. As a senior in high school, Michael Jordan was selected to the McDonald's All-American Team after averaging a triple-double: 29.2 points, 11.6 rebounds, and 10.1 assists.
