¿Aún no tienes planes para Halloween? Has llegado al lugar indicado.

LEFT ON OUR OWN, 27min., Hungary, Drama/Art Directed by Akos Kovacs An elderly taxi driver, who happens to be a tireless storyteller, is a man of contradictions: a hopeless romantic and a crude observer of life who has lived through individual hardship and witnessed the despair of others. He doesn't hold back while roaming the streets of Budapest: the route to the destination leads through the labyrinth of his own memories and emotions, which his words conjure. Friends and strangers, cheap décor, lonely buildings, a life-long correspondence that encapsulates a relationship, numbing melodies from an ancient music box all swirl and blend in this film's poetic vision. Sensitive writing and emotional cinematography draws the attention to small details, to personal hopes and everyday tragedies. A hypnotic, haunting and tranquil soundtrack gives eerily gentle force to the old man's tales. https://www.facebook.com/magunkmaradtunk Get to know the filmmaker: I've been something of a film aficionado all my life. I was 16 when I attended a so called ‘youth film club' where all the classic Italian Cinecittá greats were screened, you know, Fellini, Pasolini, Antonioni, the works. Talk about love at first sight. I was thrilled, mesmerized, enchanted and, most of all, intellectually intrigued. My parents were shocked to learn I was not willing to follow the family tradition of attending law school. I respect such Hungarian filmmakers as George Cukor, István Szabó, Lajos Koltai or Vilmos Zsigmond who became Hollywood legends, and love the great Hungarian trailblazing directors who never got their much deserved international break, but are geniuses nonetheless, like Zoltán Huszárik or Károly Makk. They paved the way for aspiring filmmakers like myself. I'm also a big Tarkovski fan, as you might have guessed by our short film's first scenes that are a dedicated hommage to the opening sequence of Stalker. I'm also an avid reader of literature, be it John Updike or Gabriel Garcia Marquez. I couldn't write anything if not for the books that left their marks on me. Without my love for the great Czech author Bohumil Hrabal my taxi driver character surely couldn't have been born. The final entry into Noirvember 2021. Private Investigator? I barely even know her! The 1973 entry into the annals of detective movies by Robert Altman starring Elliott Gould. There's a lot to talk about and I won't mention any of it. I'll try not to. This one is coming out hot so keep your eyes peeled for any updates here. This movie definitely has some content warnings that the 70's just didn't have. Marty Augustine is huge on that. He's the prototype for the Heath Ledger Joker, pretty much. He's like "what if the Joker was a chill dude within the system versus outside of it?" It's wild. High Tower Court is a wild place. Really. https://www.laweekly.com/high-tower-court-what-its-like-to-live-in-the-famous-hollywood-landmark-from-the-long-goodbye/ https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lpgm7SVRws0 High Tower Court like overlooks the Hollywood Bowl (or is super nearby). This area is pretty magical to me. Coming from flatland the elevation changes alone are wonderful. But it's mysterious. It's fascinating. I saw a musical at the Hollywood Bowl and it definitely felt like something. A Simple Favor, starring Anna Kendrick and Blake Lively, feels like an update version of The Long Goodbye. It's an interesting movie. I liked it a lot more than I initially thought I would although it's maybe more inspired by the text than the film. Still, worth mentioning. Also, Michael Connolley's second Bosch book, The Black Ice, is inspired by a mix of the book and the film. I liked that book quite a bit as well. I feel like "el porto del gato" inspired the "GATO!!!" in Kiss Kiss Bang Bang. Shane Black isn't above that. "El Porto" is an unusual way to say "the door" in Spanish. I'd go for "la puerta" but I learned not too long ago that "porton" was an older word for a door based on the name of a restaurant. So I'll accept it as being fine although, in the book, the Spanish isn't always exactly on point. Chandler was born in Chicago and grew up in England so the actual fuck did he know about Spanish. That doesn't detract from the story or anything but he's such a picky little bastard about his hoighty toighyt literary references you'd think he'd spend a little more time getting that right. But Chandler had a lot of his own issues. I didn't mention Dr. Veringer at all and I'm sure there's a lot to mention there but he's played by the Illinois Nazi from The Blues Brothers, Henry Gibson. Wonderful character actor. I also didn't mention the kid working at the grocery store or Marlowe subsequently seeing him in jail. Good stuff. There's a lot of that. I also didn't mention dogs. But there was the one white dog in the middle of the road that Marlowe calls "Asta". He's got a cigarette in his mouth so it sounds like Astor as if it was a rich person or an Iranian prophet but it's definitely Asta the dog from The Thin Man. The director and screenwriter(s) definitely know about Film Noir and detective movies and books and they consciously chose to not quite do that. The Thin Man movie slaps, though. Super good. I think that Roger Wade was an insert for Chandler but also a reference to Hammett. I organically compared Hammett to Hemingway in that last episode but it turns out that was far from an original thought. He's a tall (6'5" or 195-196cm) bearded man who is wildly alcoholic which is a dead ringer for Hemingway. In Cuba tall men are referred to as a "Hemingway". Or were. Chandler, probably, had a bit of an inferiority complex with regards to Hammett who was the originator--the creator from which Chandler modeled his work. But Chandler also probably used that character as an insert himself--being problematically alcoholic. David Carradine has a cameo that focuses on the prison industrial complex and the impending "war on drugs". That was wild. The car that Marlowe drives in this movie was Elliott Gould's actual car at the time. It was a 1948 Lincoln Continental. Really wild. I maintain that cars got cool in the 50's. If you come at be with "but uughghgugh t-buckets and '32 fords" yeah those didn't look like how we think they look like now until the late 40's and early 50's when the GIs came back from military service and had fabrication and mechanical experience and few outlets to get that programming out. But that's when hot rods really took flight. And then the Tri-5's and the Barracuda came out. It's a whole cascade of cool cars around that time. Apropos of nothing, F1 is really cool. If you haven't ever really been into it you can check out F1: Drive to Survive on Netflix. It'll bring you in and explain things along with giving you the stories. Expecto Petronas. Lennox calls Marlowe a "born loser". Lennox and Marlowe weren't friends quite like that in the book--it was more chill and Marlowe was more taking on a charity case as well as sticking to his principles and finding another misfit to get along with. When I said it was a reverse The Great Gatsby I meant it. Just Lennox wasn't the Gatsby. Elieen Wade was the Gatsby and she was murderous. It felt stupid after a while but the writing was compelling. Vilmos Zsigmond is a gangster. The free-roaming camera of this movie was wonderful. I didn't talk about it enough and I didn't inspect this enough but I was short on time and energy. Being sick sucks, team. It really does. I know there were some flubs and yeah, there's not images in this one. Sorry team. I just didn't have the fuel for it. I'll see you sometime next year. Hey there! Remember that time we all learned about the birds and the bees from John Lithgow in the back of a bitchin' van in Montreal? What's that, you don't? Well, cram this new JFD in your ears and see if it jostles the old memory banks. Up first! It's 1975's A Haunted Turkish Bathhouse! This creep-filled feature tracks the exploits of an abusive dude at the wildest whorehouse in town, at least until the scariest cat of all time shows up. But is it more of a Roman Porno or a Pinky Violence movie? Does it even matter? We hope you like Japanese nipple torture scenes outside of your Ghoul Summer movies as much as you like them together. Next up! You've tasted the popular perfume, now take a swig of the less-popular Brian De Palma film. We're gabbing of course about Obsession, from 1976. This is the one he directed after Phantom of the Paradise - you know, the very Hitchcock-y movie he dragged Vilmos Zsigmond to Italy for? We got lots of thoughts on all these twisty turns the movie makes. Finally! Of course, it's 1979's Pinball Summer (aka Pick-Up Summer). Another entry in our long line of reviews about obscure teen sex comedies, this one has the distinction of featuring the fifth male lead from My Blood Valentine and some unremarkable locations shoots in Montreal, Canada. Crank this review while driving down the street in your bubble-windowed vans. All this plus The Great Parker Bowman Swindle, the Chinese Superman, A Needle-drop Nightmare on Fear Street, a really big announcement, Blockbuster Night: 1999 Edition, time's up: Steve Zahn, gladitorial mix-ups, verified butthole pleasures, the van with the wiener painted on it, a revelation about the famous wall-peeing party (or was that on the boner episode?), nerd news and even more! Pour nous soutenir, une seule adresse : https://fr.tipeee.com/capture-mag/ See acast.com/privacy for privacy and opt-out information.

Joining us LIVE in the first half of the show is Writer/Director BRETT BENTMAN who's on hand to talk about his new film 90 FEET FROM HOME which makes its world premiere at DWF on June 20th. An emotionally powerful film that draws you in from beginning to end, take a listen as Brett talks about bringing this true story to the big screen, the film's themes, the challenges of finding the perfect cast (which he has done beautifully) and what each brings to their respective roles and the film as a whole (more Shawn Michaels, Adam Hampton, and Thom Hallum, please!), Anthony Gutierrez' rich cinematography and their collaborative influences for the film's visual tonal bandwidth, and more! And then Writer/Director/Editor/Cinematographer MARCUS MIZELLE is back with us LIVE talking about his new film CHAMELEON which also makes its world premiere at DANCES WITH FILMS on the 22nd. Hot off the heals of the success of M*A*S*H director Robert Altman and reining Hollywood “it” couple, Warren Beatty and Julie Christie set up camp the woods of the Pacific Northwest to create a Western unlike anything before or since. Enhanced by the haunting music of Leonard Cohen, and the innovative and dreamlike cinematography of Vilmos Zsigmond, as well as Altman’s signature overlapping dialog and sound design, McCabe & Mrs. Miller is a masterpiece of atmosphere and texture and one of the crown jewels of the New American Cinema.

Episode 65 Alec and Derek continue riding this Acid Western trail to talk about The Hired Hand (1971). Banking on the wild success of Easy Rider in 1969 Universal offered Peter Fonda full artistic control to create his directorial debut. Reversing the previous films youthful lust for the open road, Fonda delivered an elegiac western chamber-drama meditating on the longing to return home. Showcasing the work of legendary cinematographer Vilmos Zsigmond in his debut feature, the innovative editing from Frank Mazzola (Performance), the music of multi-instrumentalist Bruce Langhorne (the inspiration for Dylan’s Tambourine Man) not to mention show-stopping support from Warren Oates and a particularly unforgettable performance from Verna Bloom. The Hired Hand is in itself a return home to the legendary westerns Peter’s father Henry made with John Ford, as well as a worthy successor, though one that brings with it a new and at times feminist perspective on the genre.

One of the most acclaimed movies of 2015 tells the story of an ordinary encounter between two strangers in an ordinary Cincinnati hotel room. Less ordinary? They’re puppets. ANOMALISA, written and co-directed by Charlie Kaufman is an unusual – and ambitious – stop-motion animated film from the creator of SYNECDOCHE, NEW YORK. In this special fix edition of Filmspotting, Adam and Josh review ANOMALISA and note the passing of legendary cinematographers Haskell Wexler and Vilmos Zsigmond. 0:00-25:21 - Review: "Anomalisa"25:21-35:18 - Notes / Poll LINKS - Josh's Anomalisa review Learn more about your ad choices. The Doorpost Podcast Project // Inspiring interviews with some of today's most successful Entrepreneurs

John Rhode is a director, cinematographer and camera operator who has worked his way through the camera ranks of camera operator, 2nd Unit Director of Photography, and Director of Photography to Director. He joined International Cinematographer's Guild on the Paramount Pictures production of Soapdish (1992) and began work with respected DP's as Lazlo Kovacs,ASC, Vilmos Zsigmond, ASC, and John Seale, ASC whom gave Rhode work on Ghosts of Mississippi (1995), The American President 1996), City of Angels (1997), and Perfect Storm (2000) moving him up from additional operator to "A" operator to 2nd Unit DP. Rhode further shot over 30 independent movies which included stars such as Faye Dunway, William Sanderson, John Heard, and Debbie Mazar.   Rhode moved into television on the camera departments of NightStalker (2006), The Hollow Men (2008), Heroes (2008-9) as well as breaking new ground on the webisode and mobisode debuts of Prisonbreak (2006), Vanished (2007) Mr. Wrong (2008) and the film festival winning Turbo Dating (2009-12) created by Terry Rossio, writer of Shrek(s) and Pirates of the Carribean. This led to Award-winning documentaries by Spark Media/ American Experience's Partners of the Heart and Prince of Slaves followed by the award-winning Bill Brummel Productions of Bullied (2010) and Erasing Hate (2011), both funded by the Morris Dee's Southern Poverty Law Center. Awards include many first prizes in films festivals, Tellies, and Cine-Eagles. Rhode's cinematography has been hailed by Variety as "beautifully photographed by John Rhode."   Breaking into directing on music videos and commercials, Rhode co-directed and served as director of photography on the notorious short My Dinner With Ovitz (2003), a satire skewering Michael Ovitz. It created a sensation in Hollywood production circles. Ron Meyer, the president of Universal Pictures, and David Geffen remarked, "it was brilliant." Variety Magazine reviewed it as "a gonzo short -- pic is the most buzzed-about underground project since Trey Parker and Matt Stone's "The Spirit of Christmas." Rhode later took offers directing motion pictures which include the family and adventure films Seeker & Fetch (2011), The Stray(2012) and Trooper and the Legend of the Golden Key (2012).   Raised in Wooster, Ohio, Rhode received a B.S in chemical engineering from Ohio State University when he met Frank Capra promoting the book "The Name Above the Title." After a vigorous debate on the conflict between personal need and social progressiveness, Capra told Rhode he should be directing movies. Rhode took his advice and returned to get his MFA in Cinema, moved to Hollywood, and broke into the film industry in the the production and camera departments working on movies, music videos, and television.

Leaving the fictional Las Vegas and turning our sights onto a director who would spend his later years in Las Vegas, this episode features a discussion of Ray Dennis Steckler's 1969 film Body Fever.  Body Fever features Steckler regulars Carolyn Brandt, Ron Haydock, Herb Robins and Gary Kent as well as behind the scenes work from Keith Wester and Jack Cooperman.  As someone who recognizes that Steckler's work is still relatively unknown, Terry often finds himself drifting off to other films in Steckler's career and some of the great stories behind them.  It is safe to say that many topics here will be revisited in future episodes of the podcast. In an effort to briefly discuss the cinematographers Vilmos Zsigmond and Laszlo Kovacs, Terry incorrectly credited the cinematography in The Last Picture Show to Mr. Kovacs when it was actually Robert Surtees.  Laszlo Kovacs did work in many other pictures including Easy Rider, Five Easy Pieces, The King of Marvin Gardens, Ghostbusters and Say Anything.  We apologize for the incorrect credit. Hi I'm Sean P. Malone in Los Angeles, California and this is The Camera Report. This edition of The Camera Report features interviews with Vilmos Zsigmond, ASC and David Stump, ASC. I caught up to Vilmos and David a few months ago at a Global Cinematography Institute special presentation, where they and other instructors from GCI talked about the school's purpose and approach. David Stump, ASC is a cinematographer, a VFX supervisor and a stereographer. He has served as an effects DP on movies like 'X-Men' and 'X2', and he recently was senior stereographer on 'The Immortals'. His expertise on the changing landscape and technologies of film production are on display here, and in the recent documentary film, 'Side by Side'. David currently is an instructor at the year-old Global Cinematography Institute, teaching "Digital Cinematography." Vilmos Zsigmond, ASC is a director of photography who has lent his beautiful photography to some of cinema's best moments. 'Close Encounters of the Third Kind', 'Deliverance', 'McCabe and Mrs. Miller', 'The Deer Hunter', and more recently, 'The Black Dahlia'. His sensibilities behind the camera continue to inspire cinematographers and filmmakers the world round. Vilmos is currently teaching "Lighting for Feature Films" at GCI, and co-founded the school with previous Camera Report guest, Yuri Neyman, ASC. If you want to learn more about GCI, join Vilmos, Yuri and other instructors at Filmtools on March 9th, for a sample class presentation. They will be talking about the next session of classes that begins April 13th. One disclaimer before you hear these interviews: when I interviewed David and Vilmos I was writing a story about changing technology in cinematography, but since that time I myself have been taking GCI's course one. I am also helping them out with a future journalism related project. Thanks and enjoy the interviews. Thank you for listening to this edition of The Camera Report. Go to globalcinematography.com to find out about GCI's March 9th event, and their upcoming session. Want to ask a question or make a comment? "Like" The Camera Report on Facebook and send us a message. I'm Sean P. Malone, thanks for listening.

This month Sean is speaking with one of the co-founders of the brand new Global Cinematography Institute in Los Angeles, Yuri Neyman, ASC. Yuri co-founded the new school with fellow director of photography, Vilmos Zsigmond, ASC and is an accomplished director of photography, educator and film industry innovator. As a director of photography, Yuri is best known for his work on the breakthrough indie film 'Liquid Sky' and the neo-noir thriller, 'D.O.A.', starring Dennis Quaid and Meg Ryan. As a technological innovator, he developed the 3cP system, which allows a director of photography to communicate on-set color grading decisions directly to the colorist, thereby avoiding creative miscommunication and costly mistakes. The system has been widely adopted and employed in today's film industry. Yuri also developed the curriculum for a course he taught at AFI for several years called "History of Cinematography", which led him eventually to the idea for The Global Cinematography Institute. The program not only emphasizes traditional cinematography but also expanded cinematography, which includes digital and what Yuri calls "virtual cinematography," training the directors of photography of today to also be directors of imagery for 3D worlds of tomorrow.
