Da Johanna zu diesem Zeitpunkt in Elternzeit war, berichtet sie von ihrer Zeit bei Bauer Advance vor dem Umbruch. Der Monte Olivia war im Oktober 1924 bei Blohm&Voss vom Stapel gelaufen und für die großen Südamerika-Fahrten bestimmt. Eine erste kleine Spritztour für Hamburger Honoratioren und neugierige Journalisten führte indes nur die Elbe abwärts, wo sich ein Vertreter des Hamburger Anzeigers vor allem von den kulinarischen Möglichkeiten an Bord schwer beeindrucken ließ, um in der Ausgabe vom 7. April 1925 ausführlich davon zu berichten. Eine richtige Erfolgsgeschichte, wissen wir heute, wurde der Monte Olivia dennoch nur zum Teil. Da das Südamerika-Geschäft schwächelte, setzte man ihn bald vermehrt auf Kreuzfahrten in nördlichen Gefilden ein, ab 1934 vermehrt auch für Kraft-durch-Freude-Fahrten. Ab 1940 diente er schließlich als Wohnschiff für die Kriegsmarine sowie als Lazarettschiff und kenterte nach einem Bombentreffer der Royal Air Force am 3. April 1945 in Kiel. Verschiedene Preziosen, darunter das Tafelsilber des Monte Olivia, wurde erst 2022 durch Taucher gehoben und sollen demnächst im Internationalen Maritimen Museum in Hamburg ausgestellt werden. She was the second and final member of the Prinz Adalbert class, which was built to provide scouts for the German fleet and station ships in Germany's colonial empire. Friedrich Carl was built by the Blohm & Voss shipyard in Hamburg. She was laid down in August 1901, launched in June 1902, and commissioned in December 1903. She was armed with a main battery of four 21 cm (8.3 in) guns and could reach a top speed of 20 knots (37 km/h; 23 mph).Friedrich Carl served with the scouting forces of the Active Battle Fleet for the first few years of her career, including a stint as the flagship of the reconnaissance squadron. She went on cruises abroad, including voyages escorting Kaiser Wilhelm II on tours in the Mediterranean Sea. She also participated in extensive training exercises in the Baltic and North Seas. In 1909, she was withdrawn from front-line service and used as a torpedo training ship until 1914.After the outbreak of World War I in July 1914, Friedrich Carl returned to active service for operations in the Baltic Sea against the Imperial Russian Navy. She served as the flagship of the cruiser squadron in the Baltic and participated in patrols in the Gulf of Finland. The ship was modified to carry a pair of seaplanes. In mid-November, the cruiser squadron was tasked with attacking the Russian base at Libau, but while en route on 17 November, Friedrich Carl struck a pair of naval mines. Soybeans and meal soar higher on Friday.  Naomi Blohm with Total Farm Marketing attributes the recent strength to end of quarter fund short covering and the market adding weather premium on dry Brazil forecast, plus hopes for more China demand.  Corn followed soybeans but has some of the same South American crop concerns.  Wheat was not able to follow the row crop rally futures are approaching chart resistance and saw some end of quarter and report positioning, plus prices become uncompetitive.  Cattle made new highs for the move with high cash news but live cattle consolidated into the close and Blohm thinks that market may be running out of gas.  Hogs ended mostly lower with heavier weights and increased upfront supplies indicated in the Hogs and Pigs Report.   See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

Abstract: Whole-report working memory tasks provide a measure of recall for all stimuli in a trial, and afford single-trial analyses that are not possible using traditional single-report delayed estimation tasks. However, most whole-report studies assume that trial stimuli are encoded and reported independently, and do not consider the relationships between stimuli presented and reported within the same trial. Here, we present the results of two independently conducted whole-report experiments. The first dataset was recorded by Adam et al. (2017), and required participants to report color and orientation stimuli using a continuous color wheel. We recorded the second dataset, which required participants to report color stimuli using a set of discrete buttons. We find that participants often group their reports by stimulus similarity, contradicting the assumption of independence implicit in most encoding models of working memory. Next, we show that this behavior is consistent across participants and experiments when reporting color but not orientation, two circular variables often assumed to be equivalent. Finally, we implement a hierarchical Bayesian model---an alternative to independent encoding---and show that ensemble encoding predicts biases that are not present in either dataset. Taken together, these results suggest that assumptions made by both independent and ensemble encoding models---which were developed in the context of single-report delayed estimation tasks---do not hold for the whole-report task. This failure to generalize highlights the need to consider variations in task structure when inferring fundamental principles of visual working memory. Copy rights belong to original authors. Abstract: Recent neural and behavioural findings provide support that the medial intraparietal sulcus (mIPS) and dorsal premotor (PMd) activity reflect aspects of a kinematic plan for reaching movements. However, it is unclear how these two regions differentially contribute to reach planning. Here, we used high-definition transcranial direct current stimulation (HD-tDCS; 4 x 1 electrode placement; 2 mA for 20 min; 3 cm radius) to investigate the functional roles of mIPS and PMd in the left hemisphere of humans. We examined the changes in endpoint error in reaching task with different initial hand positions and different target locations spanning both visual hemi-fields. Participants completed the task with (stimulation, post-stimulation) and without stimulation (pre-stimulation) of individually fMRI-localized cortical areas mIPS and PMd. We found a significant interaction effect between initial hand position (IHP) and target position on the difference in horizontal endpoint error after cathodal left mIPS stimulation and significant IHP and target position main effects after cathodal left PMd stimulation, suggesting that IHP and target position are not yet integrated into a movement vector at the input of the mIPS, but are integrated in the input of PMd. Hence, these findings reveal a distinction between mIPS and PMd in the stages of movement vector formation for reaching movements and indicate that HD-tDCS is a viable method for perturbing localized cortical activity to elucidate localized cortical function. Einerseits werden Forschungsergebnisse über die Situation der offenen Kinder- und Jugendarbeit in Corona-Zeiten aus Sicht von Fachkräften vorgestellt. Andererseits wird das Verhältnis von Alltag und Sozialer Arbeit in der Pandemie aus Sicht der Adressat*innen beleuchtet. Im Gespräch werden wechselseitige Bezugspunkte der jeweiligen Perspektiven deutlich, aber auch Spezifika immer wieder hervorgehoben. Während Gunda Voigts die Zielgruppe der Offenen Kinder- und Jugendarbeit in den Fokus nimmt, weitet Anne van Rießen den Blick immer wieder, sodass sich sowohl Meta- als auch Mikro-Perspektiven kontinuierlich ergänzen. Als ein Fazit nehmen wir mit: Zukünftige Entwicklungen inner- und außerhalb der Sozialen Arbeit sollten sich noch stärker an den Bedürfnissen ihrer Nutzer*innen ausrichten und so z.B. I'm currently reading Ryan Holiday's Courage is Calling, and he talked about a writer, Varlam Shalamov, who, in the 1930s, was sentenced to hard labor in a Soviet gulag. This passage stood out at me:“There he was in one of the darkest places a human could be, and what did he find? He found deep insight into the human condition. “I discovered that the world should be divided not into good and bad people but into cowards and non-cowards,” he wrote. “Ninety-five percent of cowards are capable of the vilest things, lethal things, at the mildest threat.”When we ask about courage, we are thinking about it precisely wrong. It's not our question to ask. For it is we who are being asked the question.”We live in an age of cowards. Of people going along with the crowd because it's the easy thing to do. It feels safer to throw stones at the other side than it does to stand for something positive and hopeful. There's risk in questioning things and seeking other perspectives, whereas joining in the mob costs us nothing (except perhaps our character).But maybe things have always been this way. It's still difficult for most people to wrap their minds around the Holocaust, how so many people just went along with it. The more I learn about psychology, the more I understand how it happened, but it doesn't make the lack of courage any more appalling. As a kid learning about WWII, I had no doubt in my mind that I would have done the right thing had I been in Germany at that time. Would I offend them if I offered to open the door for them?” And you might really worry about offending them, but you're likely also worried, maybe more so, that they would make you feel bad if they took offense to your offer.Courage is about stretching out of your comfort zone and doing the right thing.
