Ep. 308 Emanuel Prinz - What Actually Starts Movements

Shifting Culture

Play Episode Listen Later May 30, 2025 54:30 Transcription Available

In this conversation with Emanuel Prinz, we dig into his latest research, exploring what actually catalyzes movements, the kinds of leaders and teams that sustain them, and what blocks them from taking root. We'll talk about the personal and spiritual qualities of movement catalysts, why reproducibility matters more than charisma, and how partnering with God, rather than simply following a method—is essential to see lasting fruit. Along the way, we wrestle with questions of multiplication, DNA, and the risks of bottleneck leadership. If you care about genuine spiritual movement, if you want to see communities transformed and leaders multiplied, not just in theory but in practice, you won't want to miss this episode. So join us because this conversation is packed with wisdom and hard-won insight for anyone longing to shift culture in meaningful ways.DR. EMANUEL PRINZ has partnered with God to start a movement in North Africa and speaks from personal experience. He has researched kingdom Christian movements across the globe for fifteen years. Currently, he serves ministries worldwide as an expert movement consultant, coach, trainer, and researcher, facilitating their progression toward movements. Through his Exponential Disciple-Making and MOVES Coaching trainings, more than 12,000 leaders in over fifty countries have been equipped. Prinz has taught at Columbia International University, the European School for Culture and Theology, and Bethany Global University. He is the author of Movement Catalysts and numerous articles in journals such as Missiology, Evangelical Missions Quarterly, Global Missiology, Journal of the Evangelical Missiological Society, Mission Frontiers, as well as in Christianity Today. How can being highly sensitive be a gift rather than a burden, and how do we learn to embrace and navigate that sensitivity in our lives and work?In this episode, we dive into the world of bodywork and healing. Jo is an experienced Osteopath whose journey has taken her beyond physical health and into the realms of emotional and spiritual. We explored how we can create a safe space for ourselves - and our patients - to surrender, trust and come home to our bodies. Jo shared how she navigated and still navigates her path as a highly sensitive being and it can be a gateway for deep transformation. If you're someone who identifies as highly sensitive or if you're curious about how shamanic practices can be integrated into modern therapeutic work, this episode is for you. Tune in to hear Jo's powerful insights and learn how you can navigate your own healing journey with more softness, trust, and confidence - and meet the fear of being “weird” or “witchy”! Read more about Jo: Jo initially earned a degree in Fine Art before retraining as an Osteopath, inspired by her own positive experience with osteopathic treatment for back pain. She has been a practicing Osteopath for over 17 years. In addition to her clinical work, Jo lectures at the European School of Osteopathy and serves as a personal tutor and student mentor.Jo's specialist interest lies in working with the effects of trauma and stress, whether stemming from physical or emotional causes. During her exploration of trauma responses, she encountered the shamanic concept of "soul loss," which sparked her interest in shamanism and indigenous healing practices. Since 2019, Jo has been training in psycho-spiritual and therapeutic shamanism, focusing on integrating shamanic techniques into modern therapeutic settings.Jo is also deeply committed to supporting her fellow osteopathic colleagues in leading happy and fulfilling professional lives. She is currently training to become a supervisor, aiming to guide osteopaths towards a more confident, joyful, and fulfilling practice. In this conversation we talked about: * Jo's journey from Fine Art to Osteopathy: How her personal experience with back pain led her to explore the healing arts — and why understanding that sensitivity doesn't equal shyness has been key. * Exploring sensitivity as a strength: Jo shares her own healing journey as a sensitive person, coming to understand her emotional and physical sensitivity as a powerful tool rather than something to be "fixed."* How Jo meets trauma and stress in her clinical practice: Jo introduces shamanic practices and explains how she integrates these ancient techniques with Osteopathic treatment to address trauma and emotional blockages.- And so much more … :-) Receive my free mini course: From body shame and disconnect to joy and into the fullness of your creative power: - www.flurinathali.com/ ---The Soft Rebellion Podcast is created and hosted by Flurina Dominique Thali. Today's conversation is with Bonnie Gintis, DO Bonnie lives in in northern Vermont. She has taught worldwide, addressing physicians and all people interested in exploring embodiment. She retired from Osteopathic private practice in 2009 and now devotes herself to teaching, writing, and exploring new ways to foster health and wellbeing. She is the author of Engaging The Movement Of Life: Exploring Health And Embodiment Through Osteopathy And Continuum. She is a 1986 graduate of New York College of Osteopathic Medicine, where she has also taught Osteopathic Principles and Practice. She has been a faculty member with the Sutherland Cranial Teaching Foundation, the American Academy of Osteopathy, the European School of Osteopathy, The German Academy for Osteopathic Medicine, and Jim Jealous, DO. Bonnie has been a board member, faculty member and Course Director for The Osteopathic Cranial Academy, and was honored with Fellowship in the Osteopathic Cranial Academy (FCA) in 2015. Bonnie studied Continuum extensively with Emilie Conrad and taught in collaboration with her from 1997 until the time of her death in 2014. She was authorized by Emilie to teach Continuum, and now teaches a synthesis of all her areas of exploration and expertise. She has had more than 50 years of meditation practice, trained to be a teacher of Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction (MBSR), and has explored many approaches to mindfulness within and outside of Buddhist traditions. Bonnie's innovative approach combines Osteopathy, Continuum's fluid movement exploration, and mindfulness, expanding the possibilities for experiencing health and embodiment and allowing for the development of perceptual skills to more deeply care for ourselves and others. https://osteopathyunplugged.com/ https://bonniegintis.com/   In today's talk discussed about what Osteopathy and Continuum are. We shared perspective on the importance of natural movement, meditation, and a holistic approach in professional practices. We also discussed ways to connect with Bonnie's work, including her wonderful book and her upcoming teaching schedule including a retreat at Kripalu in October. There was really so much territory we could cover her and I felt Bonnie did a great job to just scratch the surface without opening up too many wormholes to go down, as the topics are rather vast topics as we explore them more. I would highly recommend her book and her podcast to get a deeper sense into what Osteopathy and Continuum can be. They are practices which I am personally still so green about but have touched and changed me in profound ways. I hope if they can be supportive for you that you too can get more information to explore your inner workings through these ways of being.   If you are enjoying and getting something out of these talks, we'd appreciate it if you would leave a positive review of the podcast and subscribe to it through the platform of your choice. When you do this it really helps other people find us, and we greatly appreciate your support. This is my creator force and feminine spirit, wanting to be awakened and expressed.  This story I share with you today.  … and by doing this curving the path and direction of this podcast a bit deeper - may this podcast be a source of inspiration / an archive for all of us to be awakened to the miraculous body we are and inhabit and may it be a platform for women who are going a similar path like I did and do to find inspiration and support to heal from disordered eating and awaken to their feminine spirit.  About today's guest, myself, FLURINA :-) I am an Osteopath, lecturer, researcher, dancer, artist and mother of the podcast «The Breathing Body». And, I am a woman who suffered from an eating disorder for many years - and found healing through movement, body awareness and falling in love with the fascination and miracle my expresses every day - the sweet song of feelings and emotions. I initially trained as a dancer in Denmark and the Netherlands. During this time, I encountered many somatic practices, in particular the Alexander Technique and Ideokinesis which continuously teaches me as a facilitator the art of creating space and finding ease in movement by using images and imaginations.  The wish of engaging my hands in care for others led me to gain a Masters` degree at the European School of Osteopathy. I am currently practicing in private clinics in Kent and London, as well as training as a paediatric osteopath at the Osteopathic Center for Children in London.  I am fascinated by the physical matter of our body and how we came to be. I am continuously exploring an experiential and poetic approach towards being human and the potential of human touch for healing. In this episode you learn a lot about myself, my journey through an eating disorder and the insights I won from it. I talk about …  I talk about the pearls of my childhood Why I was convinced for years that  "I am not good enough" And how this lead me to struggle with food What therapies worked for me and which didn't! Why learning about the embryo was a key point on my recovery path What pain means to me My top recovery "supporters": Dr. Anita Johnston`s wonderful book and how it saved my life!  How healing through an eating disorder allows you to create a life beyond your greatest dreams! I hope you can take something with you listening to my story, thoughts, insights, inspirations and action steps which I shared in today's episode - and that it nurtures your journey and healing too.  I am looking forward hearing from you - what inspired you the most? What was most precious for you from today's episode? What would you like to hear more about? Zuletzt hatte Bayer drei Klagen in Folge verloren.

Join us in our latest podcast episode as we delve into the world of design with Dr. Christian Bason, CEO of the Danish Design Center. We explore the crucial role of how we think - the “thinking” part of design thinking - in addressing global challenges. Drawing from one of his latest books "Expand: Stretching the Future By Design", co-authored with Jens Martin Skibsted, Christian introduces the concept of six expansions: time, proximity, life, value, dimensions, and sectors. These expansions encourage designers to break free from traditional boundaries and tackle complex issues like climate change, pandemics, and digitization. We also discuss the dynamic nature of design modes and methods, highlighting the importance of agency and adaptability in diverse contexts. Dr. Christian Bason brings his expertise in innovation, design, policy and leadership to enrich our conversation. Before becoming CEO of the Danish Design Center, Christian gathered a wealth of experience leading organizations such as MindLab, the Danish government's innovation team, and Ramboll Management Consulting. He has published in amongst other Harvard Business Review and Stanford Social Innovation Review and has taught executives at Oxford Saïd Business School, Henley MBA, the European School of Administration and Copenhagen Business School.  With Christian, we dive deep into the ethical considerations surrounding technological innovation and the responsibilities of designers and developers in the digital space. Our conversation examines the impact of technology on society and emphasizes the need for governance mechanisms to keep up with rapid advancements. The podcast further explores the role of designers as decision-makers and their responsibility at various scales. We look into the transformative power of unlocking individual creativity and cultivating innovative cultures within organizations. Lastly, we confront the current state of the world and examine the rise of autocracies and surveillance societies, questioning why top-down control has become such a prevailing force. Christian proposes that we have agency to create more sustainable and human-centered organizational forms that can effectively navigate complexity and build alternative futures. Join us for this captivating podcast episode as we navigate the future of design, highlighting the transformative power of agency, and embrace a world where creativity and collaboration pave the way for a better tomorrow. A cyber-attack has never been qualified as an armed attack, but cyber operations will continue to be used to assist military goals, as we are witnessing in Ukraine. Applying cyber defence measures to defend critical digital assets, both military or civilian, should be an important part of any effective response strategy. But what does constitute an armed attack in cyberspace? Heli Tiirmaa-Klaar, Director of the Digital Society Institute at ESMT Berlin and previously Ambassador for Cyber Diplomacy and Director General for the Cyber Diplomacy Department at the Estonian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, acknowledges the answer varies depending on a country's dependency on digital technologies, it's cyber resilience and robustness of key infrastructures, and its cyber defence and offense posture. Heli talks to Ronan about her background, when a cyber attack could be defined as an armed attack, the Estonian cyber attack in 2007, how to respond to cyber attacks and more. More about Heli Tiirmaa-Klaar: Heli Tiirmaa-Klaar has been the Director of the Digital Society Institute at the European School of Management and Technology in Berlin since January 2022. Healthcare has always been slow to change, and adoption of digital health solutions has been no different. When it comes to advances in technology and digital solutions, we sometimes tend to put the cart before the horse - that is, we go in with a solution, without first asking the questions. A digital health solution can phel drive adoption, support, guide or even act as a network. It's not a one-size-fits-all solution. Dr. Lloyd Hymphreys is an expert on digital health, and he's here to explain why digital health is not a one-size-fits-all solution and how, when we make assumptions, we end up trying to solve problems that don't exist. And that can be a big problem when commercializing. Assumptions are like windows - if we don't scrub them off every once in a while, the sun will never come in - and Dr. Humphreys is here to put his expertise to work and help clean those windows. Here are the show highlights: Things to do (or not do) when commercializing (1:31) Key differences in Quality Initiatives (6:09) Are you trying to solve a problem that doesn't exist? (10:10) When looking at the opportunities with digital health, don't forget the risks (13:15) Digital health is not a “one-size-fits-all” solution (18:56) Digital health should not be treated as a separate healthcare pathway (24:50) Guest Bio Dr. Lloyd Humphreys is the Managing Director at ORCHA, a company that assesses and distributes quality assured digital health solutions. Episode #68. This week on the podcast, I am thrilled to be joined by Chef Charles Webb, owner of Avanti Gourmet Catering and creator and host of the docuseries #ChefonTour.  Charles is a Chicago native who grew up in both San Antonio, Texas, and Guanajuato, Mexico. He began his career in Wall Street after finishing his studies at The European School of Economics in Rome. Feeling unsatisfied in his career, he returned to the familiar realm of food and beverage doing the work that put him through college. It wasn't until witnessing 9/11 at the nearby SoHo street corner, Prince and Wooster that he decided to pursue what he loved.  He spent many years on a worldwide adventure living out his mission to follow his passion. He worked at establishments such as The Mercer Kitchen in NYC, Casas Brancas & Spa in Brazil, Noma in Copenhagen, and on mega-yachts in the Côte d'Azur. However, it was not until 92 jobs later and his return to Chicago, that he decided to become an entrepreneur. Charles launched Avanti Gourmet Catering in Chicago. Charles has built an award-winning catering business. His mission is to curate unforgettable, incredible moments for each guest at his table. He donates his time to One Goal Foundation and Lurie's Children Hospital. He is also the host and creator of #ChefonTour, an engaging, digital series built around culture, community, food, and art wrapped into travel. It captures the essence of 40 cities as seen by locals and at each destination, Charles brings together major influencers, food experts, and tastemakers to a special curated dinner.  In our conversation today, Charles shares how being resourceful and open to possibilities has allowed him to do work he loves. He talks about what working 92 jobs taught him and how that eventually led him to become an entrepreneur. Charles has such a positive energy and an incredible story.  Connect with Charles: Website Instagram Connect with Lupe: Website Instagram

These days every organisation wants its teams to be more entrepreneurial and innovative. From holacracy to skunk-works and MBO to self-managing teams, a wide range of approaches have been tested over time. Yet what are the key variables that drive greater performance in entrepreneurial teams? In a recent paper published in the journal Organization Science, Professor Linus Dahlander and colleagues explored the way that entrepreneurial teams are organised and structured. By looking at two key variables – autonomy over who to work with or what to work on – Dahlander and colleagues identified some key approaches that leaders and organisations can use to help their teams be more creative and innovative. Linus Dahlander is a professor at the European School of Management and Technology - ESMT Berlin, Director of Research, and the holder of the Lufthansa Group Chair in Innovation. He received his PhD in from Chalmers University of Technology and undertook post doctoral studies at Stanford University. He was previously an assistant professor and an Advanced Institute of Management Research Fellow with the Innovation and Entrepreneurship Group at Imperial College Business School. Linus teaches in the areas of innovation, entrepreneurship, and networks, and is also a consultant and advisor to startups, large multinationals as well as government organizations on issues around innovation and networks. In 2017, Linus was recognized as one of the Best 40 Under 40 Professors by Poets & Quants. In his ongoing research Linus investigates how new ideas and innovations are developed in networks and communities. The ongoing projects use large-scale analysis of networks, which he integrates with a deeper appreciation for what content flows through networks. Linus seeks to study novel questions which can advance the academic literature, and which at the same time focus on issues that can affect how managers think about their business to help them make better decisions. Linus' research has been published in the Academy of Management Journal, Administrative Science Quarterly, Organization Science, Research Policy, and Strategic Management Journal among others. He served as an Associate Editor for the Academy of Management Journal in the 2013-2016 editorial team. Glean perspective from a world-renowned digital transformation leader. In this episode, Tony is joined by guest Dr. Carsten Linz, who probably needs no introduction. He is a board member, co-author of the best-selling book Radical Business Model Transformation, a member of the World Economic Forum Expert Network on Digital Economy and New Leadership, and serves as an advisor to boards and CxOs around the world. In nearly 20 years in leadership roles focused on software, data, and digital growth, he has built multiple 100 million euro businesses and led enterprise-wide transformation programs impacting more than 60,000 employees. His most recent roles include Group Digital Officer at BASF, Business Development Officer at SAP and Global Head of the Centre for Digital Leadership. Dr. Linz teaches in executive programs at the European School of Management & Technology Berlin, Mannheim Business School, University of St. Gallen and Stanford Graduate School. In this “Masters of Digital Transformation” episode, Carsten shares insights from more than 20+ years leading companies through the digital transformation journey. Key Takeaways Leading at the Intersection of Business Model and Digital Transformation When embarking on a digital transformation, improvements that only scratch the surface of what's possible isn't enough. For real change to take shape, companies must develop a radically different value proposition and embrace new ways of creating, delivering, and capturing value. In this regard, business model transformation helps leaders to "orchestrate" their digital transformation initiatives, make their transformation sticky, and gain a competitive edge for the organization. Shifting to an Entrepreneurial and Transformational Leadership During a digital transformation, leaders may have to refocus their priorities. If a leader is primarily geared towards efficiency gains and automation wins, that does not move the needle in a transformation context. New technologies inherently enable new types of innovation and creativity in a domain, rather than simply enhancing traditional methods. In the intelligent age, leadership is about co-creating the future and leaders should put more focus also on business model and operating model transformation, changes that are more substantial, more sticky, and more entrepreneurial in nature… Scaling-out Digital Business Impact In contrast to the prevailing "separate-then-integrate" model in consumer-facing companies, digital transformation in industrial companies in particular rather follows an "embed and then scale up" approach. New digital technologies were already embedded within a division, and the process of scaling them up often involved working from the customer/user backwards, giving them greater autonomy to facilitate their growth, and securing robust sponsorship and backing from the top.
