Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy for more information.

Today, I'm talking with Baris Cetinok, who is in charge of all the software in the cars that GM makes, which is a lot of cars. And if you've been following any of the drama in the world of car software, you know it also means Baris is the guy who has to defend GM's decision to drop Apple CarPlay and Android Auto from most of its cars, especially EVs. I've had versions of this conversation with the CEOs of car companies before, but Baris is in charge of actually building this stuff. So we really got into the weeds here on what this looks like, the major trade-offs, and why he thinks it's ultimately the right path for GM. The Wall Street Journal See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

The Automotive Troublemaker w/ Paul J Daly and Kyle Mountsier
It's a beautiful Friday in auto as we talk about a recent study showing the effects of high heat on EV range. We also talk about the recent consumer satisfaction reports regarding infotainment, as well as what we can learn from the ongoing writers and actors strike. With much of the U.S., and many other parts of the world experiencing a significant heat wave, a new study released by Recurrent revealed that extreme heat can significantly reduce the driving range EVs, with some experiencing as much as a 31% dropTemps over 100 degrees fahrenheit seems to be a major strike point while the decline is less severe at cooler temperatures, with an average range reduction of 5% at 90 degrees and 2.8% at 80 degrees. The analysis was based on data from 17,000 vehicles, including 65 models of EVs and plug-in hybrids, with Tesla's models showing the least range degradation.Greg Less, the technical director of the University of Michigan Battery Lab, explained that the degradation in range under extreme heat conditions is fundamentally linked to the chemistry of the battery. "Once you're above [104 degrees Fahrenheit] you start to have a breakdown of the passive emission layer on the anode, causing consumption of the liquid electrolyte," said Less.Growing dissatisfaction with complex car infotainment systems has resulted in the first ever consecutive yearly decline in owner satisfaction, according to JD Power's APEAL Study as even more drivers are opting for smartphone-mirroring systems like Apple CarPlay and Android Auto over built-in controls.Only 56% of owners now prefer to use their car's built-in system to play audio, down from 70% in 2020. Less than half prefer to use in-built navigation, voice recognition, or call-making controls.Consumers appear to be more accepting of native car operating systems if they're developed by Google, as vehicles with Android Automotive's operating system, AAOS, scored higher in infotainment satisfaction than those without. However, if there are no Google bundled apps, the AAOS are the lowestJD Power found the largest year-on-year satisfaction decline was with vehicle exteriors, decreasing to 888 from 894, particularly with 2023's new models. In Hollywood's largest strike in 60 years, both actors and writers have halted work, revealing the divide between traditional entertainment companies and streaming giants like Netflix. The conflict stems from the industry's major shift from lucrative cable-TV and rerun sales to the less profitable streaming industry, with unions pushing for practices from the older model to be continued.New wave streaming companies like Netflix, Disney +, and Amazon Prime could leverage their advantage of having much more content in the hopper to wait out negotiations while traditional networks are already planning to show reruns and international programming.Hosts: Paul J Daly and Kyle MountsierGet the Daily Push Back email at https://www.asotu.com/ JOIN the conversation on LinkedIn at: https://www.linkedin.com/company/asotu/ Read our most recent email at: https://www.asotu.com/media/push-back-email ASOTU Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/automotivestateoftheunion

GM ANNOUNCES ANDROID ONLY SOFTWARE IN THEIR CARSGeneral Motors has announced that they will be utilising Android Automotive in their cars, starting with the Blazer EV. As a consequence Apple CarPlay will not be offered to owners. This offers astonishing levels of data to Google, especially if the driver logs into their account on the car. Click here to read an article outlining some of the data Google collects, via this Autoevolution link. This is a ‘brave' move by GM to cut off a large section of actual or potential customers by excluding their phone of choice. As can be seen by reading this FT article,

Nealy every automaker offers an electric car nowadays. Volvo's second full EV is the C40 Recharge. Similar to the XC40 Recharge, it drops the X and the squared-off back end. C30 has more of a coupe silhouette. The interior is rich in recycled materials and it's packed with the newest interface that runs the Android Automotive user interface. How does its range and charge speed compare to other modern EVs? Tom Voelk travels to Palm Springs, CA to check one out in Fjord Blu . And true to Volvo's safety reputation, there's a section on what the company does to keep people from harm, and the companies commitment to sustainability and recycling.

Show #1420 Good morning, good afternoon and good evening wherever you are in the world, welcome to EV News Daily, you trusted source of EV information. It's Wednesday 30th March, it's Martyn Lee here and I go through every EV story so you don't have to. LOTUS ELETRE OPENS A NEW FRONT IN ELECTRIC SUVS - the new era of Lotus as an EV maker begins with this, the Eletre. It takes elements we've seen on the Evija battery-electric hypercar and Emira ICE sports car, wraps them in a larger package, jacks them up, and throws in a lot of new tech for the brand and the market. - The Eletre is 201 inches long on a 118.9-inch wheelbase, about 79 inches wide, and 64 inches high. Every one of those dimensions puts the Lotus within a couple of inches of the Aston Martin DBX - All we're told is the pack is more than 100 kWh and output starts at 600 horsepower. Every Eletre is all-wheel-drive, with a motor on each axle. - The 800-volt electrical architecture can handle up to 350-kW fast-charging, 20 minutes at a station at that charge rate restoring 248 WLTP miles of the Eletre's estimated 373-mile range in WLTP testing. 62 miles per hour in under 3 seconds and hit a top speed of 161 mph. - The electronic side mirror housings each contain three cameras, one camera for the rear views, one to help stitch a 360-degree overhead view, and one to help enable self-driving. - A slim gauge cluster and a head-up display provides the driver with relevant info, front passengers get a similar slim display that can display infotainment options. Between them, a 15.1-inch infotainment touchscreen that lays flat when not in use. Original Source : https://www.autoblog.com/2022/03/29/lotus-eletre-electric-suv-revealed/#slide-2390677 2025 LOTUS ELETRE FIRST LOOK: SIMPLIFY, THEN ADD AN ELECTRIC LUXURY SUV - multi-link air suspension and continuously variable damping all round. Active ride height and active anti-roll bars, along with rear-wheel steering and torque vectoring will be available as options on the Eletre, along with 23-inch alloy wheels - Four different drive modes—Range, Tour, Sport and Off-Road—adjust steering and accelerator pedal response, along with damping rates and powertrain output. And Individual mode will allow drivers to mix and match some settings to suit their personal driving styles. - The four LIDAR units, one at the top of the windshield, one at the top of the backlight, and one on each front fender, are hidden when not in use, thus preserving the Eletre's svelte appearance. - For context, the Eletre has 2.1 inches more space between the axles than a Tesla Model X and is 2.6 inches longer overall and 0.8 inches lower. This is not a small Lotus. - The rear is dominated two large vents that are bridged by a thin light bar, and a roof spoiler system that comprises two carbon fibre winglets cantilevered from the roof cant rails. The winglets function just like a conventional, full-width roof spoiler, guiding airflow down the backlight and on to a spoiler that deploys out of the tailgate at speed. Original Source : https://www.motortrend.com/news/2025-lotus-eletre-first-look-review/ LOTUS' ALL-ELECTRIC ELETRE SUV HAS A GRILL THAT 'BREATHES' - SUVs are entirely new to Lotus. Even long after Bentley and Porsche brushed aside tradition and released their own first SUVs, Lotus remained a sports-car-only company. With SUVs becoming the dominant passenger vehicle type, it may have been inevitable that Lotus would eventually throw its hat into the ring. As might be expected, Lotus brought a lot of its old sports car tricks into the design and manufacturing of the Eletre. - Lotus says the Eletre features “extensive” use of carbon fiber and aluminum to keep the (still undisclosed) weight down. The exterior body panels are aluminum, and all the black exterior trim pieces, such as the wheel arches, rear spoiler, and side-view mirrors, are carbon fiber. Hard interior trim pieces are also carbon fiber, and the seats are wrapped in a wool-blend fabric that, according to Lotus, is 50 percent lighter than typical leather seating. - An active front grill comprises interconnected triangular panels which stay closed when the Eletre is stopped or when it needs to reduce aerodynamic drag and automatically open to scoop air to the radiator to cool the electric motors, battery pack, or front brakes when needed. During this locking and unlocking sequence, the active grill “breathes” as the illuminated flush-fitting door handles deploy, opening and closing the vented panels. According to Kyle Conner, the weather was perfect, maybe beside from some wind during part of the test. The result is a pretty solid 254 miles (409 km), including the few last miles covered around the fast charging station at lower speeds. - For reference, the EPA Combined range is 274 miles (441 km), Original Source : https://insideevs.com/news/576754/kia-ev6-awd-70mph-range/ TESLA GIGA BERLIN-MADE MODEL YS ARE DELIVERED TO MANNHEIM, GERMANY - Giga Berlin-made Model Ys have been delivered to Mannheim, Germany. This is the first known delivery of the manufacturer's domestically produced vehicles since the ceremonial handover of 30 Model Ys on March 22 by Elon Musk. - . It was reported today that Denmark also hosted a delivery ceremony for the Giga Berlin-made Model Y, marking the first mention of international delivery of German-made vehicles. Five Model Y Performances are reported to have been delivered. - However, it turns out that before that, Tesla had already delivered Giga Berlin-made Model Ys domestically. @samuel_glb/Twitter tweeted that the German-made cars were delivered to the Mannheim delivery center to be handed over to the owners on March 29. He reported that “about 2 trucks” loaded with black Model Y Performances had arrived at the delivery center, although the exact number of vehicles was not mentioned. BUY AN ELECTRIC VAN AND SAVE 25% ON RUNNING COSTS, ENVIRONMENTAL GROUP SAYS - The average electric van in Europe is 25 per cent cheaper to own and operate over its lifetime than the diesel equivalent, despite much higher upfront costs for zero-emission models, according to the environmental campaign group Transport and Environment (T&E). - In a new study covering six countries - France, Germany, Italy, Poland, Spain and the United Kingdom - which account for 76 per cent of the European van market, T&E found an electric van costs €0.15 per kilometre to run, compared to €0.20 for a diesel van. - Even when excluding government subsidies on the purchase of electric vehicles, T&E found electric vans were still cheaper overall in five of the six countries, while in Germany the cost was the same. Electric vehicle owner Max Wilkinson - who is also a Cheltenham Councillor - recently bought a four-year-old hybrid Mini Countryman. He went home - but returned two hours later by which time the hybrid Mini was about half-charged. A week later Max received a penalty notice saying he'd been fined £90. Mr Wilkinson has paid the fine and doesn't dispute it. But he does think it doesn't quite make sense to restrict car charging to 90 minutes as well. - He said: “It seems illogical that quite a lot of EV and hybrid owners won't be allowed to spend enough time in the car park to get a full charge.” Email me any feedback to: hello@evnewsdaily.com It would mean a lot if you could take 2mins to leave a quick review on whichever platform you download the podcast. TESLAS TOP WORLDWIDE EV GOOGLE SEARCHES FOLLOWED BY THE VW GROUP - Based on the amount of news coverage it receives and the fervor of its fans, it's not surprising that Tesla tops the charts in terms of global Google searches for electric vehicles. Its four models are also the four most searched electric vehicles on Earth. - The Tesla Model 3 is the most-Googled electric vehicle on Earth, appearing in searches 2,240,000 times per month, followed by the Model S, Model Y and Model X. - The most-searched non-Tesla model is the Audi e-tron, which was Googled more than a million times per month in 2021, as was the Porsche Taycan, and they were followed by the Volkswagen ID.4 (823,000), which must please the Volkswagen Group. - In the U.S., meanwhile, the cars with the fastest-growing interest are the Volvo XC40 Recharge, which received 221,900 percent more searches in 2021 than it did in 2020; the Hyundai Ioniq 5, which got 12,442 percent more; and the Volkswagen ID.4, whose searches increased by 5,483 percent. The move by Tesla covers those who own Tesla vehicles and also other electric vehicle brands. - “Beginning Monday, we are temporarily enabling free Supercharging for both Tesla and non-Tesla vehicles at sites in areas impacted by the recent situation in Ukraine,” an email from the electric vehicle company said. “We hope that this helps give you the peace of mind to get to a safe location.” - Tesla has previously offered free electric vehicle charging for areas affected by natural disasters such as hurricanes in the U.S. This marks the first case of Tesla providing free charging due to a war or political crisis. - This is also the first time that Tesla has offered free charging at its Supercharger locations for non-Tesla vehicle owners. The move coincides with Tesla opening up its Supercharger locations for non-Tesla owners across several European countries. Used vehicles outnumbered new ones seven to one. - Ukraine now has about 30,000 electric vehicles on the roads. The number of newly-registered ones has been growing each year since 2016. - Still, electric cars occupy a very modest share of the Ukrainian market. A total of 104,000 new cars were registered in the country in 2021. Only 1% of those were electric. - Every fourth electric car registered in the country in 2021 was a Leaf. - Used car prices for Nissan's bestseller ranged from $9,500 for 2014 models to $28,000 for 2020 models. New Leafs, which start at $32,000, are beyond the price range for many Ukrainians, whose average monthly salary was $530 in December 2021. - Ukrainians' other top choices in 2021 included the Tesla Model 3 (827 registered) and Chevrolet Bolt (762 registered). The above three models are responsible for almost 55% of the country's electric car market. It required not just endless hours in the garage/basement but almost as many flying to the U.S., Japan and Germany to purchase specialized car parts. - Not only does Yu have an electric Rolls-Royce, he also has a brand new business. Yu said he decided to use what he learned over the past four years to open a shop, Mars Power, in north Richmond where he plans to convert other vehicles from gasoline to electric. - To convert his RR, he had to sell his house to help pay for the project. That didn't sit well with his wife, who got so fed up with his project she left him, Yu explained. - Yu said his newly converted electric Rolls-Royce can run for 500 kilometers on a full charge, adding that it only costs him $8 in electricity to charge the battery compared with $120 to fill his tank with gasoline. - He found a small team of mechanics and machinists to help him and together they worked on the project almost every day. It's that team he's now employed at his new shop. The other Rosneft director nominated by bp, former bp group chief executive Bob Dudley, is similarly resigning from the board. - Like so many, I have been deeply shocked and saddened by the situation unfolding in Ukraine and my heart goes out to everyone affected. It has caused us to fundamentally rethink bp's position with Rosneft. I am convinced that the decisions we have taken as a board are not only the right thing to do, but are also in the long-term interests of bp. Our immediate priority is caring for our great people in the region and we will do our utmost to support them. We are also looking at how bp can support the wider humanitarian effort. In total, 200 Class 8 BYD 8TT battery-electric day cab trucks to be deployed over the course of the coming twelve months starting in February. - BYD 8TT will be equipped with a 563 kWh battery (LFP) and offer a range of up to 200 miles. Fast charging power peaks at 185 kW (CCS1 connector). In a recent study conducted by HERE, the navigation experts found that drivers consider such software a must-have tool in their electric vehicle. - HERE describes how applications that provide charging location information and real-time station data help increase the adoption of electric vehicles, especially as they now offer a more integrated experience. While HERE itself already offers an advanced pack of solutions aimed specifically at EV drivers, the entire industry is actually investing on this front. - Taking the experience one step further, vehicles equipped with Android Automotive, such as Volvos and Polestars, run Google Maps as the native navigation app. Now, thanks to deeper integration with the car's battery systems, it can monitor the current range and provide options to reach the destination more conveniently. Original Source : https://www.t3.com/us/news/google-maps-is-helping-battle-electric-vehicle-range-anxiety THIS EV-CONVERTED PORSCHE 912 FUTURE-PROOFS A 1960S CLASSIC - Ian James Corlett is a self-described Porsche enthusiast, having owned a string of 911s. It's why he selected a 912 as the basis of his project, figuring a more prosaic four-cylinder Porsche would be a less heretical subject for conversion from internal combustion to electric power. - A light-switch-reactive 120 pound-feet of electric torque makes Corlett's battery-powered 912 as easy to drive as a modern EV. A blend of 911 and Boxster suspension and brake components improves the performance envelope further. The dogleg five-speed manual transmission is retained - Power is up to 118 horsepower and is far more accessible than with a combustion engine. Further, the car is still light, with a curb weight equivalent to a fully fueled, six-cylinder 911 of the same period. - Eventually, Corlett crossed paths with the experts at EV West, who reworked the conversion and polished it for reliability. Corlett refers to this version as his 2.0 build. Its front-mounted 25-kWh battery pack gives slightly more than 100 miles of range, ideal for a Sunday morning cruise. The switch to electric vehicles has the potential to cut fuel costs, but it reveals the barriers that remain in ensuring everyone can access them. - Even public charging points cost about 25% less than the average cost of filling a petrol car at the pumps. However, the type of home someone has will impact on the costs of charging. “Unless addressed, these stark cost differences risk creating a ‘charging divide' – with the bulk of savings risk being accrued by richer households, which risks widening inequality,” the report concludes. - Jonny Marshall, senior economist at the Resolution Foundation, called on ministers to prioritise reducing the cost of public charging and encourage the installation of home charging points in rented accommodation. This episode of The Athlete Entrepreneur feature James WuJames Wu is an executive at Sirius XM Radio. Raised in the suburbs of LA. After an elbow injury ended his baseball career prematurely, he jumped into football full time. Although he was All-Conference, All Valley, All San Gabriel Valley Decades team, he received no scholarship offers out of high school. After a stint at the local Junior College, he received a number of non-scholarship offers from Ivy League schools but wanted to go somewhere where they paid his way. After his coach at Junior College made a call to the Defensive Coordinator at San Diego State University, he ended up enrolling as an undersized Defensive End where his dedication and work ethic made him a favorite amongst the coaches and earned the respect of his peers. After graduating with honors, he became a stockbroker and in a stroke of terrible timing, opened the doors to his financial services firm on Monday September 10, 2001.Several years later, he was brought on to run American Honda's licensing portfolio. He turned a $500K/yr business into a $10M/yr business. He negotiated a $100M/yr guaranteed licensing deal for Honda but Honda Japan stepped in a killed it. Frustrated with big company culture, he went to work at XM Radio pre-merger with Sirius but left to join a startup called Stitcher Radio. While running business development for Stitcher, he got Stitcher into 5M cars and is the reason why Stitcher is the native podcasting application for both AppleCarPlay and Android Automotive. He was recruited back to SXM in 2013 where he now serves as Vice President of Automotive Partnerships.

TESLA WILL MOVE ITS HEADQUARTERS TO TEXAS ""I'm excited to announce that we're moving our headquarters to Austin, Texas," CEO Elon Musk said Thursday during a Tesla shareholders meeting. The electric car company is currently based in Palo Alto, California, near its original headquarters in San Carlos, and its first factory, in Fremont. Musk said Thursday that there is a "limit to how big you can scale in the Bay area."" reported CNN Business: "He cited housing affordability and the long commutes it can create as hurdles for its current location, and said the Austin factory is five minutes from the airport and 15 minutes from downtown. The median home price in Palo Alto is $3.3 million" "Texas has been actively recruiting companies via its Texas Economic Development Act offering tax breaks to put new facilities in the state. Austin, with a top tech university and cultural events like South by Southwest, is a draw for tech employers." says CNBC: "Tesla has not been happy with one set of regulations in Texas at least. The state bans direct sales of cars. Instead, car companies sell their vehicles through independent, franchised dealerships there. In other states where similar laws apply Tesla has fought to change the rules or exploited some loopholes." The main point is that the global vehicle fleet stands at about 2 billion units, and not even 1% is all-electric yet." reported InsideEVs: "Assuming that 100% of new vehicles would be electric, at 100 million per year, it would still take 20 years from now to replace 2 billion vehicles. This 20-year period might be considered as the age of a vehicle until it finally goes to a junk yard." " says Fortune.com: "“We've had a fantastic year, we had record vehicle deliveries,” Musk told Tesla's annual shareholder meeting in Austin, Texas on Thursday. “It looks like we have a good chance of maintaining that. Basically, if we can get the chips we can do it. Hopefully this chip shortage will alleviate soon but I feel confident of being able to maintain something like at least above 50% for quite a while.” “One of the biggest challenges we had in Q3 was can we get enough ships,” he said. “There was a huge ship shortage.” Musk said the “significant cost pressure” in the supply chain had forced Tesla to increase car prices, at least temporarily. " One of the reasons any company choosed to located is incentives and subsidies, on that subject: "The German government is expected to decide before the end of the year just how much state aid Tesla will receive for its battery cell unit. The company is investing about €5 billion ($5.8 billion) in the plant. The German daily Tagesspiegel reports that this unusually high investment "means that the US car manufacturer can count on German state subsidies of €1.14 billion."" Thousands of people were brought in by special shuttle buses, with long queues forming at the Gruenheide site of the US electric vehicle maker's first European factory." reported Yahoo! News: "Demonstrators were already on the scene on Saturday morning, with a few people bearing signs like "Stop Tesla" and "water and forest aren't for private profit" gathered around 100 metres (yards) from the site. On the same 300-hectare plot, Musk also plans to build "the world's biggest battery factory". And the site will equally boast the "world's largest die-casting machine", said Ferdinand Dudenhoeffer, director of the Center for Automotive Research in Germany. In the event that the factory is not approved, the carmaker will be compelled to dismantle the entire works at its own cost. Despite the country's reputation for efficiency, major infrastructure projects are often slowed down by excess bureaucracy. Berlin's new international airport opened in October 2020, eight years later than first planned." And what did the German press have to say? "In guided tours lasting an hour and a half each, local residents were able to watch the whole production process involved in making a Tesla electric car such as the Model Y." saus DW.com: "People took their time to see what was going on in the stamping and casting units and later in the paint shop and assembly and quality control sections of the huge plant. Wherever questions arose, Tesla employees were on hand to answer them. Visitors were told that 80% of the workforce will be from Germany and 20% from 50 other countries. Also of some interest: 80% of all parts used in the Grünheide plant will come from European suppliers." That concerns batteries, automotive chips, and more. As Elon put it at one point, no matter how many more vehicle models the company was selling, it wouldn't be able to deliver more units this year — the constraint is supplies, not demand." writes Zach at Clean Technica: "With that in mind, and due to how many batteries and chips the Semi needs, it is being delayed until these supply chains ramp up, which is expected to be in 2023 at the moment. Similarly, the Tesla Cybertruck is delayed until the end of 2022 for all the same reasons. " Elon Musk said: "“I think most likely what we'll see is Cybertruck start production in the next year, and then reach volume production in 2023. And, hopefully, we can also be producing the Semi and the new Roadster in ‘23 as well. So, we should be through our severe supply chain shortages in ‘23. I'm optimistic that that will be the case.”" He also said the release date of the new Roadster is likely 2023. However, Tesla didn't release an adapter that connected to its proprietary charger to convert CCS charging stations to work with its vehicles." says SlashGear: "Tesla's proprietary charging connector is used for vehicles sold in North America and some other markets. With a different standard plug and the lack of a CCS adapter, some owners in North America were unable to use third-party charging networks based on the CCS standard. According to the email sent out to owners in South Korea, the CCS Combo 1 adapter can be used with the Model 3 and Model Y. It won't be usable for owners of the Model S and Model X. The adapter will be made available to owners with preferential purchase tickets on October 19." The most important of which is Google Maps, as it has recently replaced the Android Auto app with its new Driving Mode." writes T3: "The most recent Google Map update is aimed specifically at Android Automotive users and is designed to support thermal battery management for electric vehicles. It works by using information related to the location of the vehicle, the location of the charging station, and the time left until you reach the charge point. It will then make sure the battery is fully prepared for the charge at exactly the time you reach the charge point." U SPY A MERCEDES-AMG EQS GETTING TOPPED UP AT A CHARGING STATION - It is no secret that an AMG-badged variant of the Mercedes EQS is around the corner and our loyal Carscoops reader Ross recently snapped a prototype at an Ionity charging station south of Stuttgart, Germany. - this prototype only had small areas of bodywork covered by camouflage, namely the rear fascia and front fascia (not pictured). There's also a tiny bit of camouflage on the A-pillar, perhaps to hide an AMG badge. - Based on trademark registrations recently made by the automaker a number of AMG models could be launched, potentially dubbed the EQS43, EQS53, and EQS63. The ‘43' and ‘53' will probably only benefit from a handful of changes from the standard model while the EQS63 promises to be the highest-performance variant with a claimed 715 hp. The proposal will now be subject to a three-month period for consultations and comments before it can come into force. - public authorities will be required to procure only purely electric cars, vans and city buses from the beginning of 2022, with two exceptions. According to a statement by the Norwegian electric car association Elbil, the only exceptions are “cargo vehicles that require more range than is currently available” and city buses powered by biogas. - the Electric Car Association, says, “We already see that the proposal is incomprehensibly lax on vans, where only vans under 1,760 kg have zero-emission requirements.” Original Source : https://www.electrive.com/2021/08/16/norway-set-to-require-all-evs-for-public-authority-vehicles TESLA PUSHES NEW FULL SELF-DRIVING BETA UPDATE - Tesla has started pushing a new software update for its Full Self-Driving Beta program. CEO Elon Musk released the improvements in the update and gave us an idea of when the wider release is going to happen. - The update is only for its early access program, which consists of employees and a select group of Tesla owners chosen by the automaker. - As for the timeline of the wider release, which has also been referred to as the “download button”, Musk commented that Tesla will still need to release at least one or two more updates to the early access program before v10, which is now the wider release update. Original Source : https://electrek.co/2021/08/15/tesla-pushes-full-self-driving-beta-update-download-button TESLA'S ELON MUSK REITERATES SUPPLY CHAIN ISSUES - Elon Musk reiterated that the company is still facing "extreme supply chain limitations" due to computer chip shortages brought on by the COVID-19 pandemic. "As publicly disclosed, we are operating under extreme supply chain limitations regarding certain "standard" automotive chips," Musk tweeted Thursday. "Most problematic by far are Renesas & Bosch." - The shortage in semiconductor chips — which power a wide range of products that connect, transport and entertain consumers — started last summer when the pandemic forced chip factories to shut down, particularly overseas, where the majority of the processors are made. - By the time they started to reopen, they had a backlog of orders to fill. Chipmakers were then swamped by unforeseen demand, further compounding the issue. As a result, most automakers had to halt production at times, creating shortages and driving up demand and prices. EVERYTHING YOU NEED TO KNOW - when it comes to driving an Electric Vehicle or an EV, Google Maps gets a whole lot better, actually. And way more useful too. There's a couple of things that Google Maps does when it is being used in an EV. Firstly, it will show you where EV chargers are, so you can easily get to one and recharge your vehicle. Secondly, it will also provide you with an estimate of the battery percentage when you get to your destination. - Google Maps is pretty friendly to EV drivers. But of course, it works even better in Android Automotive, since it is built-into the car. - type in Google Maps to find an EV Charger to go to, and charge your car. But you get there and all of the chargers are being used. What now? You're probably pissed, and have even less battery to get to another one. That's where Google Maps comes into play. It is able to display how many chargers are actually available. - This seems to really only work for ChargePoint and EVgo chargers. Those from ElectrifyAmerica and others are not able to show you how many are actually available. However, Google Maps can tell you the number of chargers at each location, and the speeds.
